Pocahontas County, IA USGenWeb Project

In the early 1900's the teachers of small schools often distributed "souvenir booklets" to the students at the end of the term. They would contain the names of the heads of the school, the students, and perhaps, some artwork and/or a poem.

Here is a souvenir from Rusk Public School, District number 8, Grant Township, Pocahontas County Iowa from 1904. Miss Nora Henrich was the teacher. It also contains the illustrated poem "The Close of School" by Longfellow, which was not scanned due to the fagility of the item.
