MERRILL NEWS:

PLANT TREES IN NEW
SECTION OF CEMETERY

The Merrill Hillside Cemetery Association has purchased a large number of pine and spruce evergreen trees to be planted in the new section of the cemetery.

The C.C. Hauff memorial money was used to help pay for the trees.

Here’s hoping we get plenty of rain to help in maintaining good growth.

~as obituaries are located you will find them linked to the burial names on this list

***some obituaries have been found, but no tomsbstone were in this cemetery in Oct 2005; find these burials listed in purple color on the lists

To find Hillside Cemetery : Take Highway 75 to Merrill. Turn west onto Calhoun Street , taking it to 5 th Street . Turn right (north) onto 5 th Street (K42). In about ½ mile you'll come to the cemetery on the left (west) side of the road.

Hillside Cemetery is laid out in 24 blocks (4 sections of 6 blocks each, the blocks being numbered south to north) with a main lane running through the center, east to west. To facilitate individual grave locations, each burial here listed has been assigned a Block and Row number. The blocks are numbered left to right (south to north) from the entrance, which is on the east end of the cemetery. The rows are numbered within each block, east to west. There are discernible divisions of the blocks, though there are no markings, and lanes that run between them.

As you enter the cemetery, Blocks 1, 2 & 3 are to the left (south) of the central lane. Blocks 4, 5 & 6 are to the right (north) of it. For the next section of blocks, numbering again begins on the far south side with 7, 8 & 9 on the south side of the lane and 10, 11 & 12 on the north and so on. The last section of blocks, 19-24, has few burials so row numbers are not used.

Surnames in (parentheses) indicate stones with no surname engraved, but understood from surrounding stones.

Some stones have no surnames engraved and there is not enough surrounding information to know what family is represented. These are listed under “Unknown Surnames”.
