“Patterns for Living” KLEM Cookbook In the month of May 1962….KLEM embarked on a new program series. Why not a program just for women……full of recipes…..good ones, that is….home making hints and just pleasant chatter. Why not air it at a time during the day when the housewife can take a break…sit down and have a cup of coffee and pleasant half hour visit. Make this a program prepared, edited and broadcast by a woman. Sounds great…but who will do the broadcast? After looking around and auditioning many women…KLEM was fortunate to retain the services of Mrs. Mercedes Moir . So on May 1, 1962 , …Mrs . Moir did her first women's program. Then the program needed a good name. Why not a contest with a prize to the winner? Out of this came “Patterns for Living.” Mrs. Moir became women's program director for KLEM and the program and ideas began to expand. Now every weekday, “Patterns for Living” airs with Mercedes Moir at 10:30 a.m. The letters and recipes began to come in. Good recipes….delicious recipes. Why not keep them and put them in a cook book? After months of hard work on the part of Mrs. Moir and other members of the KLEM staff…along with the wonderful recipes sent to us by listeners…here it is. KLEM presents the “Pattern for Living” cook book.
