Explanation of city layout: Take LeMars and divide it equally into four sections with Plymouth St. being the road that runs East & West and Central Ave running North & South (imagine a plus symbol for these two streets.) Everything in the upper left hand section are numbered roads ending in NW, the upper right section end in NE, lower left section are the SW roads, and lower right are the SE roads. All North/South roads are Avenues (they run parallel with Central Ave) and all East/West roads are Streets (they run parallel with Plymouth St.) .....this explanation courtesy of Cyndi Taylor.

The Clerk of District Court has civil court records from 1869.
The County Recorder has birth, death, divorce, and probate records from 1880, Marriage records from 1869 and also has Indian records. The phone number is (712)546-4020. They charge a $5 fee for copies.
The County Recorder does not perform lookups, however we were referred to someone that does. Her name is Betty Winterringer. She is in Le Mars and can be reached at (712)546-5914.

The fee charged by the society is $10 per hour, plus the cost of copies and postage. Quite a bit of research can be done within one hour because many indexes are available. She has access to looking up Courthouse records, which include births, deaths, marriages, land records, probates, etc. Also they can look up cemetery records, newspaper items (from 1880 forward), census records, and other records.
