This book belonged to my Grandmother, Ferne King, who was one of the graduates of this class. The book is in very good shape, size 8 1/2 in. x 6 in.

There are ten graduates pictured (see the photos below)...there is space for one more photo in this book. So there may have been eleven graduates, not just the ten pictured.

Ellendale Open House Sunday

Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Hecht, Merrill, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday. Open house will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at St. Joseph Church hall, Ellendale. All relatives and friends are invited.  The couple requests no gifts, please.

Hosts at the golden event will be their children: Lawrence and Erma Hecht, Merrill; Skip and Coletta Hughes, Phoenix; and Ralph and Karen Hecht. Westfield, and the couple’s four grandchildren.

Violet Anderson and Dennis Hecht were married Feb. 8, 1934, at Merrill, Iowa.

Mrs. Dennis (Violet) Hecht

LeMars, Iowa ---- Mrs. Dennis (Violet C.) Hecht, 81, of LeMars died Wednesday in a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ellendale. The Rev. Mark Duchaine will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday with a parish rosary at 8 p.m. in Luedtke-Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mrs. Hecht, the former Violet C. Anderson, was born Aug. 30, 1905, at Merrill, Iowa, and attended school there. She then worked at Dennler's Grocery and later at the Merrill Post Office. She married Dennis J. Hecht Feb. 8, 1934, in Merrill. The couple farmed in Plymouth township for nine years before moving to a farm in Liberty township.

Mrs. Hecht was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellendale and the Altar Society, St. Anthony's Circle and Catholic Order of Foresters.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mrs. G. D. "Skip" (Coletta) Hughes of Phoenix, Ariz; two sons, Lawrence of Merrill and Ralph of Westfield, Iowa, and six grandchildren.

~Note: Per SSDI online she died in March 1987. According to grave stone, she died March 11, 1987.

Edna Ferne King

 

1906-2003

E. Ferne Tindall, 96, of LeMars, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.

E. Ferne King was born May 4, 1906, in Plymouth county, the daughter of Warren J. and Birdie (Poyzer) King. She was raised on a farm near
Adaville and graduated from Merrill High School in 1923. Ferne married Rev. S. A. Jones on June 1, 1927, in Plymouth county. The couple served Baptist churches in Lucas and Trent, S.D., David City, Neb., LeMars and Independence, Iowa, and then Holdrege, Neb. The Rev. Jones died March 22,1949. Ferne returned to LeMars where she taught school in the rural areas.

Ferne married J. D. Tindall on July 12, 1953, in LeMars. Mr. Tindall died Nov. 12, 1975. Ferne moved to Plymouth Manor Nursing home in March of 1997.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Vernon Ewin of Hope, Ark.; step-children Mildred Hunter of LeMars and Mary White of Santa Clara, Calif.;two daughters-in-law, Lois Tindall of LeMars and Virginia Tindall of Punta Gorda, Fla.; three grandchildren and 13 step-grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; a brother, Stanley King and his wife Lois of LeMars; and a sister, Freda Dreeszen of Akron.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, The Rev. S.A. Jones and J.D. Tindall; a daughter, F. Irene Ewin; five step-children, Florence Johnson, Richard Tindall, Clark Tindall, Stanley Tindall; two sisters, Ione
Roggow and Elva Hawkins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in LeMars. The Rev. Jon Meredith will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in LeMars. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today (Thursday) at the First Baptist Church in LeMars. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the church. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service.
