Deeper research reveals NO relationship to any other Frankel names in DesMoines……William Frankel has NO OTHER ancestry matches, except for these two instances: (1938 City DIR and the 1940 Federal Census.) LIN is convinced that William Frankel is the “alias” that Uncle Arthur H. Ewin used in both instances. In the 1940 Census it does show that Frankel, William lives just up the street from Arthur Ewin's daughter, Iona Shepard & her husband and family. 1940 Census states Frankels occupation as "working in a junk yard." Further confirmation IS the fact that there IS “NO William Frankel” listed in the 1940 DesMoines City DIR, but he is in DesMoines City on the 1940 Census. **Found Arthur EWIN hiding in the 1940 DesMoines IA, Ward 7, Federal Census. Listed at 605 SE Astor Street. Listed as Lodger, William Trandel (name transcribed per ancestry.com) Trandel said he was widowed, age 60, born in IL. In 1935 he was supposedly in the same house. He is listed as a “Laborer in a Junk Yard.” Ancestry searches find NO OTHER TRACE of this Trandel fellow. He is listed in Census 1940 as Lodger in a household, just up the same street from Art’s daughter, Iona & her husband Jesse Shepard and kids. LIN’s Research reveals—this name is actually written as: Frankel, William. It is NOT Trandel as ancestry.com read it. Further research reveals that this William Frankel (as written in 1940 Census and written as Wm. Frankel in the 1938 DesMoines IA City Directory) is Lodger at 605 S.E. Astor street. Dad said he also recalls that sometimes Art would be gone traveling with his "doony" (septic) wagon, and Orie was in the travel trailer in LeMars. Orie and Grandma Gladys Ewin (Mrs. Charlie Ewin) became quite good friends. There were times also that Ora would travel with Art doing his septic work. |
