 Excerpt: The Price of Our Heritage POWERS, Estill, page 286, 102023 Corporal Company K Killed September 12, 1918. Buried in Grave No. 4-J, Map of Pannes. Son of Mr. and Mrs. James Powers, Kingsley, Iowa. Corporal Powers was killed in the attack on the St. Mihiel salient. He was urging his men onward, himself in the lead, and became exposed to the terrible machine gun fire. He was struck several times and his death was instantaneous. Corporal Powers had served with the regiment at Lorraine, Champagne and at Chateau Thierry.
