Arterburn, Mae M. Briley - Mae M. Arterburn, 78 of rural Stanton, died Monday, Dec. 4, 1995,
shortly after being admitted to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, RedOak.                
She had been a patient of Good Samaritan Care Center, Red Oak, for the past two years.
Arterburn was born Dec 18,1916 at McPaul, the daughter of Ed and Ida Briley. On Oct. 24,1936, she married Elwin Arterburn, who survives.
Arterburn was a homemaker and member of the Grace Baptist Church, Red Oak.
Survivors include her husband, Elwin, of the home; four children: Rosalene and James Moser, Evergreen, Co.; Gail and Ted Golden, Red Oak; Bill and Kay Arterburn, Stanton; Judy Arterburn, Red Oak; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.
Also surviving are brothers. Marvin Briley, Oregon; Willard Briley, Yuma, Az.; Cecil Briley, Hamburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, and 10 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10 am. Thursday, Dec. 7 at Wolfe Funeral Home, Villisca, with burial in Villisca Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 7-8 p.m. Memorials are being established.

Barr, Betty Cornell -
Betty Barr died Friday, Oct. 20,1995 at a care center in Stanberry, Mo. She had been a resident of Maryville, Mo., since 1975, when she moved from Burlington Junction, Mo.
Barr was bom Dec. 25, 1914 to George Thomas and Janette JaneMeadows Cornell at Carroll. She married John Clyde Barr on Sept. 21, 1941 in Iowa. He died in 1972.
Barr was a beautician and had a shop in her home for many years before moving to Maryville.
She was a member of the St. Benedict Catholic Church, Burlington Junction.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clyde; six brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by brothers-in-law: Harry Barr, Burlington Junction; Fred Barr, Savannah, Mo.; sister-in-law, Doris Ruth Masuga, Casey, II.; nieces and nephews.
Rite of Christian burial was Monday, Oct. 23 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Burlington Junction, with the recitation of the rosary prior to the service. Burial was at Ohio Cemetery, Burlington Junction.
Arrangements were made by Barr-Merrick Funeral Chapel, Burlington Junction.

Beery, Charles L. - Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept 1, for Charles Lorenzo Beery, 68 of Red Oak, who died Aug. 29,1995 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak. The service will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak, and the burial at Arlington Cemetery, north of Villisca. Visitation is Thursday from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Beery was born March 24,1927, at Shambaugh, the son of Percy and Ula May (Woodruff) Beery. He grew up in the Shambaugh and Clarinda areas, graduating from Clarinda High School in 1946. He was in the U.S. Army.
On April 5,1971, he married Frances Carlson at Maryville, Mo. They lived in Clarinda, Villisca, Stanton and moved to Red Oak in 1974. He worked for the City of Red Oak in the street department and Evergreen Cemetery. He played drums for the Melodiers. He was a member of the Clarinda American Legion.
Beery was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Merwin, and an infant sister. Survivors include his wife, Frances Beery, Red Oak; two sons, Charles Beery Jr., Liberty, Mo.; and Allen Berry, Des Moines; step children, LaDonna and James Raney, Villisca; Marcia and Robert Sierp, Onalaska, Wi.; Beverly Westenburg, Lincoln, Ne.; Darrell and Mary Ann Carlson, Stanton; Richard and Joy Carlson, Red Oak; William and Carol Ann Carlson, Stanton; Roger and Mary Jo Carlson, Marion; and Daniel Carlson, Red Oak; a sister, Jane Franks, Oregon City, Or.; five grandchildren, 23 step grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Bix, Nina O. Apple - Nina O. Bix, 88, longtime Braddyville area resident died Saturday, Sept 9,1995 at Community Care Center of Clarinda where she had lived for the past 10 years. She and her sister, Clarice Apple, entered the care facility at the same time and Apple died one week earlier.
Bix was born May 27, 1907 near Braddyville, the daughter of Harve and Lillie May Johnson Apple. She married Paul Bix, who preceded her in death. Bix had worked in the Braddyville Cafe.
Survivors include two children: Robert Bix, Clarinda; Betty Jordan, Clarksville, Tn.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Sheryl McComb, Shenandoah, is a daughter-in-law, and Violet Apple, Clarinda, is a sister-in-law.
Graveside services were Wednesday, Sept 13 at Clarinda Cemetery with Rev. Bettie Hull officiating. Memorials may be directed to projects in the Braddyville area.

Bloomfield, Laura Lee, 93, longtime resident of the Elmo, Mo. area, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 1995, at Elm Heights Parkcrest Care Center, Shenandoah, following several months of ill health. She had been a resident there since Feb. 8.
She was born Sept. 25, 1902 in Nodaway County Missouri, the daughter of Charles and Delia Spangler Lee. She was raised northwest of Elmo in the old North Grove neighborhood. She attended North Grove country school and North Grove County Church and Sunday School.
She married Otie Britt March 15, 1922 at Maryville,Mo.They were farmers in the Elmo vicinity until Otie's health failed and they sold their farm, moving to Burlington Junction, Mo., where he died May 11,1971.
She married Marvin Bloomfield Sept. 4, 1973 and they moved back to Elmo. He died Dec. 13,1975.
She was a member of the Elmo Methodist Church, the UMW, 60+Club and a former member of the Lend A Hand Club.
Preceding Bloomfield in death were her parents and husbands. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Lee, Elmo; Wilbur Lee, Burlington Junction; and Elmer Lee, Maryville; and one sister, Lucy King, Ortonville, Mn.
She is survived by sister-in-law, Mrs. Elmer (Lela) Lee, Clarinda; stepson, Charles and Alpha Bloomfield, Elmo; two nieces and two nephews, Charles and Betty King, McAllen, Texas; Beverly and Gene Russell, Shambaugh; Keith Lee, Comanche; Joan and Robert Jackson, Shenandoah.
Funeral service were Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Elmo United Methodist Church and burial in the LaMar Cemetery, Elmo. Memorials may be directed to the church or Elm Heights, Shenandoah. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, was in charge of arrangements.

Burkhalter, Eleanor M. Buchanan - Eleanor M. Burkhalter, 75 of Creston, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 1995 from injuries received in an auto accident near Washington.
Burkhalter was born Sept. 7,1920 at West Des Moines, the daughter of Charles H. and Blanche Taylor Buchanan Jr.
She married Edwin A. Burkhalter Sept. 18, 1944. He preceded her in death Aug. 15,1992.
In recent years, the couple had lived in Creston and Coin. She was the first woman mail carrier in Des Moines.
Burkhalter had also worked in the Coin telephone office, Randolph Cafe in Coin, and for Dr. Hogg.
She was an active member of the Coin Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include five children: Blanche Million, Braddyville; Charlene and Richard Pettit, Fon du Lac, Wi.; Terry Burkhalter, Clarinda; Russell Burkhalter and Darrell Burkhalter, both of Middlebrook, Mo. There are nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin; and two brothers.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 27 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Creston. The body will lie in state one hour before services.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at Elmwood Cemetery, Coin. There is open visitational Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda.
Memorials may be directed to the family.

Cavner, Leonard T. - Leonard T. Cavner, 57 of Davenport, died Thursday morning, Sept 7, 1995, at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, after being stricken while driving a mail truck near Newton Wednesday night.
He was born Feb. 28, 1938, near Shambaugh, the son of Clark and Ellen Case Cavner. He worked for Orr Trucking Company on mail routes. He is survived by three sisters, Elizabeth Bartels, Atlantic; Marilyn Wichman, Clarinda; and Beverly Van Fosson, Blanchard; nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother Robert.

Funeral services were Saturday Sept. 9, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, with Rev. John Duling officiating. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery, College Springs.

Crabbs, Edna Lucille Hall - Edna Crabbs, 80 of Shenandoah, died early Monday morning, March 2, 1992 at Mercy hospital in Council Bluffs, where she had been the past two weeks.

Edna was born February 26, 1912 at Essex to the parents of Bert and Grace (Durphey) Hall.

Survivors include her children, son Francis Mick of Caldwell, Id; Raymond Mick of Skidmore, Mo, Allen Mick of Shenandoah; Douglas Cross of Shenandoah; daughters, Mrs Clark (Dorothy) Hartman, of Yorktown; Mrs Bill (Helen) Hayes of Clarinda; Mrs Toby (Pearl) Lilly of Kansas City, Mo. There are 41 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. A brother, Donald Hall of Arcata, Ca; sisters, Mary Maley of Shenandoah; Donna Pifferini of Shenandoah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Martha Martinez, two brothers, Raymond and Harold Hall and a sister Ruth Patengill.

Funeral services will be held at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda 10 am Thursday, March 5, 1992 with burial in the Farragut Cemetery in Farragut. Visitation 7-8 pm Wednesday, March 4, 1992.

Crane, Joyce Ellen Geer - Joyce Ellen Geer Crane died Dec. 16, 1995 at St. Edwards Hospital, Ft. Smith, Ar.
She was bom May 9,1938 at Clarinda, the daughter of Gurdon B. and Ethel Geer. She grew up in Page and Taylor counties and married Harland Crane.
She is survived by her husband, Harland; children, Harland and Dana Crane Jr., Paris, Ar.; Raymond and Nancy Crane, Platte City, Mo.; Thomas and Tracy Crane, Paris; Carol and Dale Leeper, Trenton, Mo.; Jennifer and Jimmie Key, North Little Rock, Ar.; nine grandchildren; her mother, Ethel Geer, Clarinda; a sister, Marilyn and brother, Randall.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1979.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 18 at Roller Funeral Chapel, Paris, with Rev. Tim Beers officiating. Burial was in McKendree Cemetery, Subiaco, Ar.

Davis, Clarence R. - Clarence R. Davis, 68 of Clarinda, died Monday, Dec. 25, 1995 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital. He had been hospitalized since Thursday.
He was born Nov. 22, 1927 near Shambaugh, the son of Lloyd and Lillie Fulk Davis. He graduated from high school and served in the Korean War.
Davis married Katharina Ischa Feb. 6,1954 in Vienna, Austria. Davis was a farmer and had a tracking business. After retiring from farming, he drove a school bus in the Clarinda district.
He is survivedby his wife, Katharina, of the home; daughter, Christina Davis, San Dimas, Ca.      
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Charles.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 27 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, with Rev. Dale Schoening officiating. Burial was in Davis Cemetery, Shambaugh

Decker, Arnaud August Joseph - Arnaud August Joseph Decker, 49, died Friday, Dec. 8,1995 at the Valley View Medical Center, Cedar City, Utah.
He was born April 11,1946, in New Orleans, La., to Edward Decker and Rose Margaret Modica. He married Deanna Lynn Casteel June 25,1967 in Los Alamitos, Ca.
Decker was a member of the LDS Church. He was a veteran of Vietnam, serving in the US Navy aboard Air Craft Carrier USS Coral Sea. He worked as a contractor and as a electrician. He also liked to hunt and fish. He is survived by his wife; two children, Dennis A. Decker, Garden Grove, Ca.; and Lori A. Decker, Salt Lake City, Utah; mother, Rose Decker, Orange, Ca.; sister, Windy Casada, Orange.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 11 at the Parowan 4th Ward Chapel, Parowan, Utah. Graveside services will be in Clarinda Cemetery on Thursday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m.

Douthit, Roy E. - Roy E.Douthirt, 84 of Blanchard, died Wednesday Nov. 1,1995 at Fairfax Community Hospital, Fairfax, Mo., where he had been admitted Tuesday afternoon. He had been a resident of Community Care, Tarkio, Mo., for the past two years.
He was born Dec. 28, 1910 near Blanchard, in Atchison County, Missouri, the son of Robert and Hyle Busher Douthirt. He was a farmer and veteran of World War II.
Douthirt is survived by cousins and special friend, Iva Lou Hannah; Blanchard. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James.

Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Blanchard United Methodist Church. There was open visitation at Walker-MerrickFuneralHome, Clarinda. Burial was in Blanchard Cemetery.

Dunbar, Dorothy Duncan - Dorothy Dunbar, 78 of rural Clarinda, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 1995 at Community Care in Clarinda, where she had been a resident since May of 1995.
She was born May 7, 1917 near Clarinda, the daughter of Roy and Winnifred Pearl Keller Duncan. On June 28,1935, she married Paul Dunbar, who preceded her in death Dec. 9, 1986.
The Dunbars farmed in the College Springs area and she operated the College Springs Cafe for 10 years.
Dunbar is survived by two children, Jim L. and Pat Dunbar, Red Oak; Jana and Terry Burkhalter, Clarinda; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren; sister, Rose Evans, Wichita, Ks.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Aug. 30 at the College Springs Presbyterian Church, with Rev. John Duling and Rev. James Crapson officiating.
Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery, College Springs, with Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, in charge of arrangements.

Farquhar, Perry - Perry Farquhar, 93, lifelong farmer of the College Springs area, died Sunday, Sept. 10,1995 at Community Care Center of Clarinda where he and his wife had lived since December 1992.
He was bom Aug. 29, 1902 near College Springs, the son of John and Elizabeth McCullough Farquhar. In 1927, he married Mary Mitchell, who survives.
Farquhar was a member of a pioneer family of the area and active in community and church work as long as health permitted.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; two children, Marjorie and Robert Zwart, Irvin, Ca.; Joe and Ruth Farquhar, Blanchard; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, George, Paul and Lisle, and sisters, Anna Allen and Nelle Patterson.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 am. on Friday, Sept. 15 at the College Springs Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Duling officiating. Visitation with the family will be at the church following the service.

Farrens, Mary Ellen Neal - Mary Ellen (Neal) Farrens was born at Villisca Jan. 5,1921, to Albert Neal and Effie Spargur Neal.
She died at St Frances Medical Center, Peoria, II., Nov. 10, 1995 after a short illness.
Farrens attended Villisca High School, graduating in 1938. On Dec. 9, 1939, she married Darryl Farrens in Lexington, Mo. They had three children.
She and her husband farmed in southwest Iowa for several years then moved to Villisca. From Villisca, they moved to Illinois.
Farrens worked as a bookkeeper in Eureka, Ill., for many years and retired in 1979.They lived in Eureka until their recent move to Roanoke, II., her home at the time of death.
A memorial service was held at Otto-Argo Funeral Home, Eureka, with Rev. Paul Walles officiating. Her brother, Dennis Neal, gave a eulogy.
She is survived by husband, Darryl; children, Richard Farrens, Washington Courthouse, Ohio; Phyllis Aggert, Ashland, Ill.; Patricia Brush, Secor, Ill.; five grandchildren.
Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Dennis Neal, Robert Neal, Luella Kemen, Villisca; Lois Bergren, Red Oak.
Preceding her in death where her parents; sisters, Frances Neal, Ruth Nelson, Betty Larsen, and brother, Jim Neal.
Interment was in Ohio Cemetery, Eureka [Ill]. Memorials are suggested to the arthritis fund.

Fitch, James D. - James D. Fitch, 60 of Clarinda, died Saturday, Dec. 16,1995 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Omaha, Ne., following a few weeks illness,       
He was bom May 18,1935 at Chicago, Ill, the son of Armon E. and Lena C. Canny Fitch.
He was a career Air Force veteran and later worked for the State of Iowa.
He is survived by three children, Tammy Jo Higar, Des Moines; James Fitch, Jr., San Jose, Ca; Dora Savory, Alamogordo,NM; brothers, Donald Fitch, Clarinda; Joe Fitch, Omaha; sister, Lois Jeanne Picha, Rocky River, Ohio.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 19 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, with Rev. John Clark officiating. Burial was in Clarinda Cemetery

Flotho, Margaret E. Nothwehr, 83 of Clarinda, died Monday, Aug. 28,1995 at Good Samaritan Care Center, Red Oak, where she had been admitted three days earlier. She had been in Clarinda, Red Oak and Clarkson Hospital, Omaha, Ne., since June 30. She was born July 3, 1912 at Ft. Morgan, Co., the daughter of Fred and Mary Herzberg Nothwehr. On July 6, 1930, she married Carl W. Flotho, who died Sept. 26,1981.
Flotho was a homemaker and active in church and community activities.
She is survived by three children, Frank and Jean Flotho, Melvin and Sharon Flotho, all of Colorado Springs, Co.; Mary and Gerald Sederburg, Red Oak; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and granddaughter-in-law.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Aug. 30 at St. John Lutheran Church, Clarinda, with Rev. Ray Weber and Rev. Gary Jaeckel officiating. Burial was in Clarinda Cemetery with Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda in charge of arrangements.

Freeman, Lucy Ann Downing - Lucy Ann Freeman, 86 of Gravity, died Monday.Dec. 18,1995 at Bedford Manor Care Center, Bedford.
She was born Jan. 11, 1899 at Sheridan, Mo., the daughter of Frank and Rose Adams Downing.
On March 19, 1921, she married Howard G. Freeman, who survives. The couple farmed and retired to Gravity.
She is survived by her husband, Howard; children: Wade and Shirley Freeman, Clarinda; Herbert and Martha Freeman, Villisca; Donald and Marty Freeman, Clarinda; Vera and Dean Harper, Lenox; Vivian and Howard Bailey, St Joseph, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Barbara Freeman, Clarinda; 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard; two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am. on Thursday, Dec. 21 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, with Loren Daly officiating. Burial will be in Clarinda Cemetery.

There is open visitation at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Bedford Ambulance.

Gibson, Doyle
Doyle Gibson, 86 of Shenandoah, formerly of Blanchard, died Wednesday, Nov. 1,1995 at Garden View Care Center, Shenandoah.
Memorial services, following cremation, were on Friday, Nov. 3 at Hackett Funeral Home, Shenandoah. Inurment will be in Union Grove Cemetery, rural Northboro.
A memorial to the Blanchard United Methodist Church is being established.
Edgar Doyle Gibson, son of Ed S. and Zoe Blanche (Hite) Gibson, was born Nov. 6,1908 near Blanchard. He grew up in the Blanchard area and received his education in rural and Blanchard schools.
On Nov. 10, 1941, he married Marjorie Foxworthy at Rock Port, Mo. They lived in the Blanchard area and had two children.
During World War II, Gibson served in the U.S. Army in Alaska. In 1973, he retired from the Farmers CO-OP Elevator in Blanchard.
In 1993, the couple moved to Shenandoah, where he lived the remainder of his life.
He was a member of the Blanchard United Methodist Church and the Charles H. Miller American Legion Post #416 at Blanchard.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and one sister, Clarice Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; children, Ron and Sherry Gibson, Judy and Marty Lillicotch, all of Shenandoah; five grandchildren; four great grand­children.

Also surviving are sisters, Ina Adkins, Vista, Ca.; Lucille Porter, Post Falls, Idaho; Nadine and Bob Todd, Entiat, Wa.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

Glassgow, Lois Milbank Brown, 90 of New Market, died Saturday, Dec. 2,1995 at Community Care Center, Clarinda.
Glassgow was a homemaker and farmed with her husband, Ray C. Glassgow, north of New Market, until his death in 1972.
She was born Sept. 14, 1905 in Nodaway County Missouri, the daughter of Thomas Samuel Milbank and Cloris Lisbie VanFosson.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Merrill Thomas Milbank, Oct. 2,1960.
She had lived in New Market and vicinity since 1935. Glassgow attended the New Market Methodist Church for over 60 years and was active in various church groups.
She was married to Harry E. Brown, and they were divorced in 1932. She married Ray C. Glassgow in September of 1935.
She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis L. Runion, Topeka, Ks.; one grand­daughter, a grandson and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 6 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, with burial in Memory Cemetery, New Market. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.

Haley, Calvin Harlow, son of Thomas Harlow and Florence (Ridnour) Haley, was born March 28, 1926 in rural Montgomery County and died Sept, 7, 1995 at Immanuel Hospital, Omaha, Ne.
He attended rural school at Jasper #6 in Adams County. He joined the Navy in 1944 and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was top gunner on a merchant Marine ship and was honorably discharged in June of 1946.
Haley married Dolores Mae Carter on Feb. 28, 1948 at Coming. They farmed together in Adams County for 47 years.
He was a member of the Joseph Thuman #646 American Legion Post, Longbranch Watershed, and served as committee man for the Adams County ASCS office the past four years.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Clyde and Delmar; sister, Leota Ambrose; father-in-law, Leland Carter; son-in-law, David Wilwerding.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores, Nodaway; daughters, Sandra and Robert Shane, Parker, Co.; Karen and Robert Anderson, Des Moines; Diane and Ken Jacobs, Nodaway; Kathy and Bruce Cassidy, Vancover, Wa.; Chris Wilwerding, Omaha,Ne.;and 10 grandchildren.
Also surviving are sisters, Fern and Edwin Mitchell, Parnell, Mo.; Esther, and Lloyd Travis, Corning; Doris and Arthur Pashek, Creston; Darlene and Clifford Palmer, Brooks; brother, James and Joan Haley, Nodaway; mother-in-law, Grace Carter, Corning; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 11 at the Nodaway United Methodist Church with burial in the Methodist Grove Cemetery, near Nodaway.

Hamm, Helen M. Duran - Helen M. Hamm, 74 of Clarinda, died Monday, Nov. 27,1995, at Clarinda Municipal Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born May 1, 1921 at Shenandoah, the daughter of Jacob and Grace Nelson Duran. On Aug. 6,1939, she married Arlo Hamm, who survives.
Hamm had worked at Fitch's Store and was later a dental assistant for Dr. H.P. Bradrick.
She is survived by her husband Arlo, of the home; daughters, Connie and Gary Clark, Des Moines; Beverly and Paul Swanson, Clarinda; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Also surviving are sister, Ann Cleveland, Mequin, Wi; and brother, Keith Anderson, Moline, Ill.
Hamm was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jolene; sisters, Frances Sunderman and Betty McCurdy; brothers, Richard Duran, Lloyd Duran and Kenneth Anderson.
Funeral services will be Friday Dec. 1 at 1:30 pm. at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, with Rev. Dennis Bradley officiating.
Burial will be in Clarinda Cemetery. There is open visitation at the funeral home.

Harms, Edwin J. - Edwin J. Harms, 83, Vancouver, Wa, died Dec. 16,1995. He was born Feb. 28,1912 in Page County and had lived for many years in California and Washington.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Lucille; five children; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Lois Otte and Wilma Falk, Clarinda; brother, Dale, and sister-in-law, Marvis (Mrs. Walter) Harms, Red Oak.

Heumphreus, Robert Glen - Robert Glen Heumphreus was the son of Harold K. and Mabel Cain Heumphreus, and was born April 14, 1920 in College Springs. He died Dec. 12,1995 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital.
Heumphreus was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Harold and Raymond.
Heumphreus is survived by his wife, Lois; brothers, Donald and Ferrell; sister, Mabel; nephews, nieces and friends.
He was a Master Sergeant in the 34th Division, 169th Infantry in World War II, with all four of his brothers. He served six and 1/2 years, three of them overseas.
He married Lois Marie Parks July 3, 1948 in Clarinda. Heumphreus was a line man for Iowa Power and Light, Clarinda. In 1953, the coupled moved to California where he was a line man for San Diego Gas and Electric for 25 years. After retiring, the couple lived in Wichita, Ks., and St. Louis, Mo., running a public storage business.
While in San Diego, Ca., Heumphreus was in the San Diego Bowling Association. After moving to Bedford, he joined the Country Club and was an avid golfer. He was on the O' Hara's bowling team and was a member of the American Veterans and the American Legion.
Services were Dec. 16 at Novinger-Taylor Funeral Home, Bedford. Interment was in Washington Cemetery, Gravity.

Hitchcock, James S. - James S. Hitchcock, 78 of Moravia, died Wednesday night, Sept. 6,1995 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Centerville.
He was born March 13, 1917 at Clarinda, the son of James S. and Ruby Evangeline Noblet Hitchcock. On March 8,1945 he married Evangeline Scott, Maryville, Mo. He taught school in several locations, including Atlantic, Anita, where he was principal for two years; Shelby, and Moravia, where he was principal from 1971-1974.
He is survived by his wife, Evangeline, of the home; two daughters, Linda Sue and Larry Kimble, Brookfield, Mo.; and, Marjorie Ann Paul, DePere, Wi. There are four grandchildren.    

Funeral services were Saturday, Sept 9,at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home Clarinda, with burial in Clarinda Cemetery.

Hollander, Norma Jean Long - Norma Jean Hollander, 54 of Council Bluffs, died Sept. 14, 1995 at her home in Council Bluffs.
She was born Sept. 20,1940 in Villisca the daughter of George and Hope Long.
Hollander graduated from Corning High School and attended Iowa Westem Community College Council Bluffs and St Mary's College, Omaha, Ne.
She was vice president of human resources at First National Bank, Council Bluffs, for more than 20 years, and later held the same position at First Tier Bank, Omaha.
She is survived by her mother, Hope Long, Council Bluffs; son, Rick Hollander, San Francisco, Ca.; daughter, Brenda Hollander, Seattle, Wa; brother, Darwin Long, Cedar Rapids; sister, Edith Beck, Columbus, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Long; and special friend, Ned Buckelew. Inurnment of ashes will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at Maple Grove Cemetery, Guss, with Rev. Dennis Bradley officiating.
Family and friends will meet at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel, Clarinda at 1:30pm. to proceed to the cemetery.

Hucke, Thirza Juanita Drorbaugh - Thirza Juanita Drorbaugh Hucke was bom April 28,1907 in Union County to Harry and Elizabeth Seamans Drorbaugh. She died Nov. 25,1995 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, at the age of 88.
Hucke attended Kent and Lenox schools and graduated from Lenox High School in 1925.
On Feb. 11,1928, she married Dayton H. Hucke at her parents' home, rural Kent. They had one daughter.
She was a member of the Stringtown Church and loved flowers, cooking and sewing. Hucke was also a charter member of the GCW Club, rural Kent.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn and Donald Erickson, Essex; three grandsons, two great grandchildren; sisters, Leota Hall, Denison; Betty Wilson, Corning; sister-in-law, Marjorie Drorbaugh, Creston; brother, Lyle and Ila Eivins, Creston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Nov. 2,1987; brother, Harry Jr. (Bob) Drorbaugh.
Services were Nov. 28 at the Stringtown Church with Rev. Roy Cook officiating. Interment was in North Fairview Cemetery, Lenox.

Jeffrey, Maurine Vermule - Maurine Vermule Jeffrey, eldest of three children of George H. and Daisy Riggle Vermule, was born Jan.31,1906 at the family farm near Page Center, Page County, and died at her Denver, Co., home Oct. 7,1995.
She attended rural school through 8th grade. During high school, she and a friend roomed together in Coin.
She married William Lyle Jeffrey, Coin, on Jan. 31, 1924. They had one child.
The couple lived in Coin until 1946 when they moved to Colorado. They lived for a short time in the Denver area, and in Estes Park, Co.
In 1947, they moved to Fort Laramie, Wy., where Lyle was foreman of maintenance and construction during the initial phases of the reconstruction of Fort Laramie Army Post on the Oregon Trail.
During the 20 years in Wyoming, Jeffrey was a wife, mother and homemaker and grandmother. In her later years at Fort Laramie, Jeffrey worked as school secretary.
In 1967, the couple retired to Longmont, Co. After Lyle's death in 1987, Jeffrey remained in Longmont. In 1992, she moved to Denver to be near her daughter and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle; and brother, Ivan G. Vermule.
She is survived by daughter, Faith and William H. Meyer, Denver; two grandsons; three great grandchildren; sister, Vivian Schact and husband, nieces and nephews.
There was cremation. A memorial service was at Park Hill United Methodist Church Oct. 16. A memorial service will be held in Coin when the cremains are taken for burial in Elmwood Cemetery.

Johnson, Homer Frederick Jr - Homer Frederick Johnson, Jr., son of HomerFrederick and Pearl (Rhoades) Johnson, was born Sept. 14, 1928 in Shenandoah, and died Nov. 3,1995 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Omaha, Ne.
He grew up in the Shenandoah and Blanchard areas and lived most of his life in southwest Iowa.
On March 26,1977, he married Jean Connell, and they made their home in Clarinda.
Johnson worked at various jobs through the years including Lake Nurseries, Shenandoah; Northwestern Bell Yellow Pages, Kellogg Towing, Minnesota, and as a boiler man at Mental Health Institute, Clarinda.
He was self-employed as an air conditioning repairman when he was forced to retire in 1982 due to his health.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and brother, Robert Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, Clarinda; five children from a previous marriage: Marcia Wolfe, Sommerset, Ky.; Daniel and Paula Johnson, Prior Lake,Mn.;Rebecca and Gail Duff, Des Moines; Rosanne Gates, Burnsville, Mn.; Heidi and Bill Carston, Burnsville, Mn.; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Doreen and Gerald Howrey, Omaha; Penny and Robert Bowman, Shenandoah; brother, Richard Johnson, Blanchard; other relatives and friends.
Graveside services, following cremation, were Wednesday, Nov. 8 at Clarinda Cemetery with Rev. David Miller officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Clarinda Hillside Missionary Church.

Joslyn, Clayt Dee - Clayt Dee Joslyn, 77 of Ajo, Az., died Nov. 10,1995 at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Phoenix, Az., of complications following heart surgery and a history of diabetes.
He was born May 16,1918, the son of Fred L. and E. Fern (Raynor) Joslyn, near Gravity. He grew to adulthood in the Taylor County area.
Joslyn moved to California in 1938, working in the Marysville area. Drafted into the Army in 1940, he served four years in the South Pacific during World War II in the 41st Division, 741 Ordinance.
Following the war, Joslyn moved to Quincy, Ca., to be sales manager of Quincy Motor Sales. He spent many years in the auto business.
On April 20,1947, he married Dorothy Eisenhuth. They had one son. On Jan. 1,1954, Joslyn married Doris Ward. His first and second marriages ended in divorce.
On March 24, 1967, he married Marilyn (Be) Mathes, and lived in Paradise, Ca., for 25 years before moving to Ajo in 1994.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a son Robert, a brother Thermal and two sisters, Bonnie Louise and Naomi Joslyn Kimpton.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Joslyn; two granddaughters; four stepchildren: William and Kerry Dinsmore, Chico, Ca.; Linda and Patrick Roots, Modesto, Ca.; Allen and Marta Dinsmore, Gilroy, Ca.; Sandra and Rick Murphy, Paradise; and eight step grandchildren.
Also surviving are brothers, Boyd E. Joslyn, Chico; and Lewis E. and Elaine Joslyn, Clarinda; sisters, Paulyne Kelley, Carmichael, Ca.; Wanda and Carl Garrett and Audrey E. Bryan, all of Yuba City, Ca.
He requested no service, but to have his ashes scattered.

Kelley, Beulah E. Nelson - Beulah E. Kelley, former Clarinda area resident, died Oct. 22, 1995. She was born in 1915 to Ruby and Edwin Nelson, rural Clarinda.
She married Joe Kelley on June 30, 1963. She was a homemaker.
In 1967, the couple moved to Denver, Co. Joe retired from United Air Lines in l987.
She is survived by children: Charles E. Dorl, Bedford; Carolyn Owen, La Grange, Ca.; Esther Swiegert, Aurora, Co.; Myrna Adair, Clarinda; John Dorl, Arvada, Co.; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 26 great-great grand­children.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two great grandchildren.

Kent, Dorothy Todd - Dorothy Kent, 75 of Clarinda, died Saturday, Dec. 2,1995 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Omaha, Ne., after a two-month illness.
Kent was born Sept. 4,1920 at Clarinda, the daughter of Edward and Ruth Gardner Todd. She graduated from Clarinda High School.
On Nov. 27, 1941, she married Darrell Kent who preceded her in death March 18,1977.
Kent was a beautician and operated Dorothy's Beauty Shop for many years.
Kentis survived by a daughter, Karen and Robert Duncan, Lincoln, Ne.; two grandchildren, and twin great grandsons.  
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sisters, Maxine McKay and Gladys Laub. Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, with Rev. John Clark officiating. Burial was in Clarinda Cemetery.

Leeson, Kenneth - Kenneth Leeson, 84 of Clarinda, died Friday, Dec. 15,1995 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital. He was born to Clyde and Lena (Wedge) Leeson July 15,1911 in Oshkosh, Wi. On Dec. 3, 1943, he married Lucille Hayden.
Leeson attended school and graduated from Maryville Teachers College, Maryville, Mo. He taught for a short time and then served during World War II in the Navy.
Following his discharge, he returned toClarinda to work for D.O.McCreight in the sheet metal shop. He pursued his interest in sheet metal fabrication and eventually purchased the business.
Leeson was a long-time local businessman and this was evident by his remaining active in Leeson Sheet Metal Shop until this year when his health no longer allowed him to go to the shop.
Leeson was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Rotary, American Legion, VFW, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and Odd Fellows.
He is survived by his wife, Lucile; sons, Larry and Janele Leeson, Glasgow, Kt [?]; Clyde and Sue Ann Leeson, Omaha, Ne.; Kenneth Richard Leeson, Clarinda; eight grandchildren, one great grandchild; sisters, Lucille Johnson, Esterville; Beatrice Chenoweth, Santa Barbara, Ca.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Connie Darley, and one grandson.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 18 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel, Clarinda. Burial was in Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville.

Linebaugh, Orville D. - Orville D. Linebaugh, 83 of Clarinda, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 1995 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital. He had been a resident of Goldenrod Manor since October.
He was born Oct. 7, 1912 at Clarinda, the son of John and Emma Miller Linebaugh. He worked at Bridgeport Brass, Indianapolis, In., before retiring and returning to Clarinda. His wife, Anne, preceded him in death in 1973. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
Survivors are nieces, including Kathryn Lee, Clarinda.
Graveside services were Wednesday,Dec. 27 at Clarinda Cemetery with Rev. John Clark officiating. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, was in charge of arrangements.

Lynn, Daisy "Bernice" Adams Mullison - daughter of Jennie Inez Pierce and Albert Allen Adams, was born in Lorimor, Jan. 29, 1907, and died at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Oct. 19,1995 at the age of 88.            
Lynn's early years were spent in the Lorimor area and she graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1925. In 1927, she married Orval Harold Mullison and they had two children;
After Orval's death in 1933, she taught School in Knowlton and at Pleasant Hill School, rural Shenandoah.
In 1937, she married Charles Elbert Lynn, who had three children. They had one child together.
Through the years, Lynn was an active member of Summit Methodist Church, Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution and the MS Club. She worked as a volunteer for Rep. Lightfoot's campaign in 1989.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Grace; brother, Ward, and husband, Elbert.
She is survived by children: Shirley Jean and Doc Casten, Cedar Rapids; Richard and Ardene Mullison, Casper, Wy.; Betty and Stanley Gregory, Phoenix, Az.; Chuck and Cathy Lynn, Morgan Hills; Jerry and Betty Lynn, Unionville, Va.; Sue and Jim Henn, Clarinda; 22 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were from Hackett Funeral Home, Shenandoah, on Tuesday, Oct. 24 with Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Shenandoah. A memorial service was given by the DAR

Maley, Gladys E. Brown - Gladys E. Maley, 80 of Clarinda, died Saturday, Dec. 2,1995 at Community Care Center, Clarinda.
She was born July 27,1915 in Page County, the daughter of Leonard T. and Hattie Mae Lee Brown. She had lived at the Page Care Facility before going to the care center.
She is survived by a sister, Lucy Brunetti, Youngstown, Ohio.

Marland, William (Bill) H.
Bill Marland, 82 of Clarinda, formerly of Bloomington, Ca., died Wednesday morning, Nov. 1, 1995 at Community Care Center of Clarinda.
He was born Feb.8,1913 in Staunton, Ill, the son of William Harold and Sarah Adeline (Sawyer) Marland.
Marland has lived in care centers in the Clarinda area for the last seven years, moving here from Bloomington. He had worked as a maintenance supervisor for Mobil Oil Company.
Survivors include his daughter, Margaret Rouse, Clarinda; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; sister, Marian Jane Dameron, Staunton.
Graveside services were Friday, Nov. 3 at Clarinda Cemetery with Pastor David Miller officiating. Masonic Rites were given by Nodaway Lodge #140 AF&AM.

McAlpin, Bessie Lyles - Bessie McAlpin, 94 of New Market, died Saturday afternoon, Sept 9,1995, at Clarinda Municipal Hospital where she had been admitted shortly after noon.
She was born April 5, 1901 at Shambaugh, the daughter of William Norton and Maude Gentella Hart Lyles. The family lived in and around Shambaugh until the death of her father, then moved to Braddyville where she worked to help support her family.
When she was 20 years old, she moved to Clarinda where she worked as a reporter for the Clarinda Herald Journal.
On April 5,1924 she married Dennis McAlpin and moved to the New Market farm where she has continued to live the rest of her life.
McAlpin is survived by three children: Gerald and Jean McAlpin, Essex; Pauline Ellison, Clarinda; Shirley and Verlin Larson, New Market; 14 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Irene Lyles, Minneapolis, Ks., is a sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Dave, Ben and Sherman Lyles; sister, Jessie Lyles; son, Alvin McAlpin; son-in-law, Marvin Ellison; grandson-in-law, Don Nelson.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Sept. 13 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda. Burial was in Memory Cemetery, New Market.

McGee, Earl Floyd - was born Oct. 18, 1908 on the home farm, the son of Charles
Sherman and Catharine (Vredenburg) McGee. He graduated from Henderson High School in 1927.
He farmed the family farm, and on July 3, 1940, was married to Norma Geneva Rowe Palmer.
McGee was a Boy Scout leader in Henderson and a member of the Henderson Christian Church where he served as an Elder.
Survivors include daughters: Thelma and Orville Kent, Clarinda; Norma Jean and Richard Hackett, Omaha, Ne.; Janet and Bob Hainline, Henderson; Martha and Ronald Mundorf, Griswold; 13 grand­children and 16 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Oscar Lawrence Palmer, Jr. [?], on Sept. 10,1988; daughter, Nora Jean Regan, on Nov. 12,1991; brother, Merl; sisters, Nora Smith and Alta
Moore.

Meether, Ruth Buesing - Ruth A. Meether, 54 of Kearney, Ne., died Friday, Oct. 20,1995 at her home.
Meether was born Sept. 22,1941 to August and Alma (Meier) Buesing in Clarinda. She graduated from Clarinda High School and earned a bachelor's degree in education at Concordia College, Seward, Ne.
On June 4, 1967, she married Rev. John Meether inYorktown.The couple moved to Kearney in 1982, and her husband died in 1989.
She was a member of Family of Christ Lutheran Church, where she belonged to Koinonia and FOCUS, Central Nebraska Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Parents Without Partners, Association for Education of Young Children, American Association of Retired Persons, EPICC and the museum.

Meier, Arnold F. - Arnold F. Meier, 74 of Clarinda, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 1995 at his home following an illness.
He was born Sept. 10, 1921 near Yorktown, the son of William and Rosa Herzberg Meier. On March 3,1943, he married Elsie E. Reese in Honey Creek [Iowa].
Meier was a retired farmer who lived most of his life on a farm north of Yorktown, before moving to Clarinda in August of 1978.
He was active in the LLL and Men's Club of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Yorktown. He was active in various Bible studies.             
Survivors include children: Ronald Meier, Clarinda; Kenneth and Suzanne Meier, Aurora, Co.; Janice and Greg Wilmes, New Market; Donna and Micheal Curphey, Arlington, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
Also surviving are sisters, Alma Sunderman, Clarinda; Ester Smiley, Clarinda; brothers, Rudolf Meier, Clarinda; Lorenz Meier, Coin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie, in August of 1990.
Interment services were Sunday, Nov. 19 at Summit Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Yorktown, with Rev. Marc Quintavella officiating.

Meyer, Edna Elizabeth Wischmeier - Edna Elizabeth Meyer, 76, died Friday, Oct. 27, 1995 at her daughter's home, Sedalia, Mo.
She was bom near Lincoln, Mo., Dec. 15,1918, the daughter of William and Kate Eken Wischmeier.
She grew up in Benton County Missouri, and on March 6,1943, married Lyman H. Meyer at Lincoln.
Following their marriage, they moved to a farm near Clarinda. In 1950, they returned to the Lincoln area to farm. Her husband preceded her in death in 1962.
In 1965, Meyer returned to Iowa where she worked at Clarinda Municipal Hospital until 1981 when she moved to Sedalia, to live with her daughter.
Meyer was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Bill and Roy Wischmeier; sister, Minnie Heerman.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Latum, Sedalia; son, Jay Dee Meyer, Raytown, Mo.; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Lula Lumpe and Dorothy Davis, both of Lincoln; and other relatives.

Funeral services were Sunday, Oct. 29 at the Davis-Miller Funeral Home, Lincoln, with Rev. Marvin Ulmer officiating. Burial was in Immanuel Cemetery, Lincoln [Mo]

Miller, Alfred - Alfred Miller, 82 of New Market, died Thursday, Dec. 21,1995 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital.
He was born Nov. 3, 1913 near Burlington Junction, Mo., the son of Clyde and Mattie Johnson Miller. He graduated from Tarkio High School, Tarkio,Mo. On March 22,1938 he married Lois E. Brown, who survives. They farmed near Bedford and later retired to New Market.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda; children, Marilyn and Norman Williams, New Market; Kenneth Miller, New Market; Janice and Lee Rine, New Market; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Also surviving is a brother, Wallace Miller, Halstead, Ks., and sister, Christena and Paul Stevenson, St. George, Ks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Harold.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 23 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, with burial in Memory Cemetery, New Market.

Mitchell, Susie Catherine Burgett - Susie Catherine Mitchell, daughter of Louis and Maude (Bailiff) Burgett, was born Feb.8,1904 in Adams County. She died after a brief illness on Thursday, Oct. 19,1995 at Good Samaritan Center, Red Oak, at the age of 91.
Mitchell was raised in the Mt. Etna and Quincy areas of Adams County and lived a short time in Colorado.
She married Harold A. Mitchell on Feb. 26,1922 at Brooks. They lived and farmed many years in the Stanton community and moved to Red Oak in 1974.
She weaved rugs and sold them. She attended the Stanton Evangelical Covenant Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, on Nov. 25, 1977; one sister and one brother.
Survivors include sons: Dale and Eunice Mitchell, Malvern; Earl and Meda Mitchell, Corning; Dean and Roberta Mitchell, Red Oak; Raymond and Sharon Mitchell, Corning. Mitchell and her husband raised two grandchildren, Mickey Mitchell, Janesville, Wi.; and Caroline Buckley, Elmo, Mo.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 23 at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak.

Parrott, Bertha R. Freeman - Bertha R. Parrott, 81 of Clarinda, died Thursday, Dec. 7,1995 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital.
She was born July 4,1914 at Burwell, Ne., the daughter of Oscar and Velda Walker Freeman.
She married Bernard Parrott, who preceded her in death in 1979. Parrott had been a cook in local cafes.

Pritchard, Robert L. - Robert L. Pritchard, 82 of Clarinda, died Sunday, Nov. 26,1995 at his home after several months illness.
He was born March 9, 1913 near Garrison, the son of Arthur and Anna Sloan Pritchard. He graduated from Clarinda High School and attended Clarinda Junior College.
He married LaVerna Mohler and they had two children. On Nov. 10, 1956, he married Thelma Stanley Hardie, who survives.
Pritchard was a salesman for Farm Master Products, Shenandoah, before retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma; son, Robert Arthur Pritchard, Spencer; daughter, Beverly and Arland Schultz, Boise, Idaho; two granddaughters, three great granddaughters and one great-great grandson.
Also surviving are stepchildren Paul J. and Frances Hardie, LaHabra, Ca.; Louise and Lowell Yager, Champaign, Ill.; Hugh and Marlene Hardie, Ottumwa; Max and Toni Hardie, Oxon Hill, Md.; 13 stepgrandchildren; 10 great stepgrandchildren Duane Stangage, Spencer, is a half brother, and Julia Standage, Bedford, is a sister-in-law.
Pritchard was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson and one brother.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Nov. 29 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Clarinda, with Rev. Don Fisher officiating. Masonic services were Nov. 28 followed by visitation at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda.
Burial was in Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Cancer Fund or Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Reddel, Friedora Regina Carolina Sorge - Friedora Regina Carolina (Sorge) Reddel, 79, died Sunday, Dec. 10,1995 at Community Care Center, Clarinda.
She was bom to Henry and Meta (Mosel) Sorge Jan. 30, 1916 at her parents' home, near Gurley, Ne.
Reddel graduated from Salem Lutheran School, rural Gurley, where she met her future husband, Walter Reddel, who was her eighth grade teacher. The couple was married June 17,1936.
They began their marriage in Gurley, where Walter taught school. The couple moved to Columbus,Ne.They then served at Zion Lutheran School, Storm Lake.
Their last years of service to the church were at Bloomington, Mn. Their retirement years were spent at Shield's Lake, near Faribault, Mn.
After Walter died in 1990, Reddell lived with her daughter, Mary Lou' Wagoner and family, Clarinda.
She is survived by children: Carl Reddel, Colorado Springs, Co.; Eugene Reddel, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Karen Faye Luebbe, Oxford, Ohio; Mary Lou Wagoner, Clarinda; Stanley Reddel, Maywood, II.; Mark Reddel, Springfield, II.; 15 grandchildren.
Also surviving are sisters, Leona Borcher, Sidney, Ne.; Lucille Becher, Faribault; brothers, Edwin Sorge, Faribault; Leonard Sorge, Adkins, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Gilbert.
A memorial service was Saturday, Dec. 16 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clarinda Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Women's Missionary League or the scholarship fund of Concordia Teachers College, Seward, Ne.
At their request, both Reddel's and her husband's bodies were donated to the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Mn.

Ritnour, Bonnie E. McNeal - Bonnie E. Ritnour, 87 of Villisca, died Saturday, Dec. 17,1995 at University Hospital, Omaha, Ne., where she had been a patient since Thursday.
She was born Jan. 26,1908 at Red Oak, the daughter of George and Rose Randal McNeal. On Nov. 5,1930 she married Homer J. Ritnour, who preceded her in death Aug. 28,1988. She was a homemaker. She had lived with her daughter, Helen, Omaha, for the past six years.
Ritnour raised two nieces and one nephew from infancy. Survivors include her daughter, Helen Strong, Omaha; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, son, Russell; daughters, Alura Ritnour and Doris Clark.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 19 at Wolfe Funeral Home, Villisca, with Pastor Edward Helmick officiating. Burial was in Villisca Cemetery.

Rucker, Mary I. Graham - Mary I. (Graham) Rucker, Villisca died of a sudden illness Dec. 11,1995, at the hospital in McAllen, Texas, while wintering in Donna, Texas.
She was born Dec. 10, 1928 in Nodaway. On May 2,1945, she married Lowell Rucker. Survivors include herhusband, children,Larry and Phyllis Rucker, Clarinda; Linda and Dick McAlpin, Red Oak; Lisa Hernandez, Lincoln,Ne.; 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.     

Rucker attended the First Christian Church, Clarinda. She will be cremated, and burial will be at a later date

Rupich, Tejo - Tejo Rupich, 101 of Clarinda, died Wednesday, Dec. 13,1995 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital.
He was born Jan. 5, 1894 at Klisa Austria the son of Ilija andStana Savrljuga Rupich. He came to this country and served in the Army in World War II.
He married Boja Popich and they farmed in the Blockton area later moving to Bedford and then to Clarinda.
He is survived by a daughter, Bessie Brant, Clarinda. His wife preceded him in death Dec. 31,1990.

Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 15 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, with Rev. John Clark officiating. Burial was in Clarinda Cemetery. Military services were at the cemetery

Schoenberg, Margarethe "Marge" - Margarethe "Marge" Schoenberg, 80 of Lincoln, Ne., died Thursday, Oct 19, 1995 in Lincoln. She had made her home with a sister-in-law, Helen Schlacter, in Clarinda for about 1 1/2 years prior to moving to Lincoln the end of June.
Services were Oct. 23 at Roper and Son Mortuary, Lincoln, with interment at Elmwood,Ne.,the town in which she was bom. She was affiliated with Schoenberg stores in Red Oak and Lincoln.
She was a member of the BPOE #4 Does (Ladies of the Elks), American Legion Auxiliary and, in the past, has been active in the BPW and other fraternal organizations. While living in Clarinda
she frequented the Lied Center.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Frances Borenmier, Denver, Co., and Helen Schlacter, Clarinda; nieces and nephews.

Shepherd, Mable Johnson - Mable Shepherd, 89 of rural Prescott, died Saturday, Sept.9,1995 at Colonial Manor, Corning, where she had been a resident since July 1995.
Shepherd was born Dec. 20, 1905 in Lincoln Township, Adams County, the daughter of Peter P. and Allie (Lee) Johnson. She married Fred R. Shepherd Oct 20, 1926 in Red Oak. He preceded her in death Aug. 29,1995.
Survivors include sons, Dale Richard and Janice Shepherd, Lenox; Harold Eugene and Irene Shepherd, Prescott; four grandchildren; three great grand­children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Floyd Arthur Johnson and a brother and three sisters in infancy.

Services were at Wolfe Funeral Home, Villisca, on Monday, Sept. 11. Burial was in Villisca Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Stringtown Church.

Simmons, Robert W. , 72 of Clarinda, died Monday, Dec. 4, 1995 at Community Care Center, Clarinda, where he had been a resident since October. Summers was born Jan. 5,1923 at Clarinda, the son of Harold and Eva A. Freeman Summers. He graduated from Clarinda High School in 1943 and joined the US Marines where he served until 1946.
He married Neva Esaias Feb. 15, 1953. Summers worked for Parris-Dunn when he returned from military service, and then worked for over 45 years at Cavner Oil.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Neva, in 1988; his parents; stepfather Ray Ashbaugh, and two nephews.
Surviving are his children: Michael and Ronda Summers, Essex; Shelly and Jerry Mellencamp, Clarinda; four grandchildren. Sisters are Beverly Barlow and Marie Little, both of Clarinda.
Funeral services will be l:30 p.m.on Thursday, Dec. 7 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home. Clarinda with Rev.John Clark officiating.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial with military rites will be at Clarinda Cemetery.

Simmons, Kenneth Lee - Kenneth Lee Simmons, 44 of Clarinda died Sunday, Dec. 3, 1995 at Jennie Edmondson Hospital, Council Bluffs, after several months illness.
He was born Oct. 21,1951 at Iowa City, the son of Roland and Lillian Cross Simmons.
Simmons was a carpenter and on Aug. 22, 1994, married Lucinda Ballenger, who survives.
Also surviving are three children: Margie Harris, Allenhurst, Ga; Billy and Magen Baxter, of the home. There is one grandchild and nieces and nephews.
Brothers and sisters include: Jean and Stanley Lawrence, Stanwood; Lois and Gerald Godsey, Decatur, II.; Larry Simmons, Devil's Elbow, Mo.; Colleen and Joseph Hines, Blanchard; Anna and Larry Ridnour, St. Thomas, Mo.; Deborah and Thomas Wheeler, Clarinda; George Simmons, Prescott; Edward Simmons, Clarinda.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roland, and sister, Shirley Cavner.
Graveside services were Wednes­day, Dec. 6 at Oak Grove Cemetery, east of Clarinda. Walker-Merrick Fu­neral Home, Clarinda, was in charge of arrangements.

Sloan, Velma Marie Irvin - Velma Marie Irvin was bom Jan. 21, 1906 to Samuel Irvin and Eva Van Valkinburg Irvin in Nodaway County, Missouri. She was raised on a farm in the Blanchard area and attended school there.
She married Dodds Sloan on June 27,1923, and they had two daughters.
Irvin was a J.C. Penney employee in Clarinda for many years. After she retired, she clerked at Connors' Department Store, Clarinda.
She moved to Hamburg 12 years ago to be near her daughter and family.
In November of 1994, she became a resident at the Sidney Health Center, where she died Tuesday, Aug.22,1995.
Survivors include daughter, Maxine Field, Hamburg; two sisters, Mildred Sharp, Tarkio, Mo.; Marjorie Hutson, Elmo, Mo.; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Essie Fae; brother and grandson.
Graveside services were Friday, Aug. 25 at the Clarinda Cemetery, with Rev. Andrew Rubenking officiating.

Slump, Gerald, Mesa, Az., died Nov. 12,1995. He was amember of the Iowa National Guard in the 1930s and was a retired Air Force and Postal employee.
He was a prisoner of war for 42 months in Bataan during World War II.
Survivors include, son, Gerald, Jr.; brothers, Darwin, Omaha, Ne.; Donald, Pueblo, Co.; sisters, Irene Sullivan, Pueblo; Iona White, Minnesota.
Services were in Mesa Nov. 18.

Snively, Mary Evelyn Morris - Mrs. Harold (Mary Evelyn) Snively, 64 of Florence, Az., died Sunday, Aug. 27,1995 at Chandler Regional Hospital, Chandler, Az.
She was born Jan. 8, 1931 north of New Market the daughter of Guy and Essie Glasgow Morris. On Aug. 13, 1949, she married Harold Snively, who survives.
She was a payroll clerk for the United States Government Bureau of Reclamation. The couple has lived in Arizona since 1981 and in California before that.
She is survived by her husband, Harold, of the home; daughters, Patricia Kay and Arch Coderre, Ponka, Alberta, Canada; Bonnie Sue and Ron Hirst, Tonasket Wa.; four grandchildren; sisters, Madeline and Cliff Forbes, Saragota, Wy.; Verla and Jim Sabin, Sinclair, Wy.; brother, Leo Morris, Bend, Or.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 31 at 10 a.m. at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, with Rev. John Clark officiating.

Steuert, Irma Cook - Irma Cook Steuert, 83, died Monday, Sept. 4,1995 at Briarwood Care Center, Denver, Co., where she had been a resident since 1990 after suffering a stroke.
Steuert was born Oct 12, 1911 at Clarinda to Clyde and Josie (Cotrill) Cook. Graveside services were at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver, on Sept. 7.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Steuert; sisters, Edith in infancy, Georgia Smalley, Billie Davison, Leah Ayers; brother, Harold Cook.
She is survived by a daughter, Georgia Bowles, Denver, sister, Helen and Duane Modrow, Shenandoah; brother-in-law, Charles and Opal Steuert, Omaha, Ne.; nieces and nephews.

Stone, Earl - Dr Earl Stone was the first child of a family of five to Woodford Marion and Nina Bell Johnson Stone. He was born July 30,1897 on a farm in Monmouth, Ill. He died Dec. 13,1995 in Grant City, Mo., at the Worth County Convalescent Hospital.            
When Stone was a small boy, the family moved to Parnell, Mo., where he attended Champion rural school and Parnell Public School. When he was 17, the family moved to a farm southwest of Bedford in Ross Township.
Stone married Grace Irene Miller Aug. 7, 1918 in Maryville, Mo. They farmed, ran the Opera House and Court Street Cafes in Bedford. In Colorado, Stone worked for the Great Western Beet Co., ran a roadside store and ice delivery service in Idaho, and worked for Pacific Power and Light in Washington.
In 1934, Stone's brother, Ivan, persuaded him to enter Palmer Chiropractic College. His first practice was in Walnut, and he practiced in Bedford until he retired. After retirement, the couple traveled to Arizona for the winters.
Stone was a professional man in the community and was active in the Lions Club, park board, gun club, Masons and other activities.
Stone was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Grace; three brothers, Ivan, Virgil and Francis.
Survivors include sister, Marie Park, Bedford; sister-in-law, Coreen; other family members and friends.
Services were Dec. 16 at the United Christian-Presbyterian Church, Bedford, with interment in the Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.
Arrangements were by Novinger-Taylor Funeral Home, Bedford.

Struthers, Gleda V. - Gleda V. Struthers, 87, lifelong resident of Shambaugh, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 1995 at Community Care Center of Clarinda where she had lived since 1990.
She was born Dec. 3, 1907 at Shambaugh, the daughter of George and Emma Wallick Struthers. She taught school many years, beginning at Mt. Joy, a one-room schoolhouse.
Struthers also helped with the care of family members during their last illness.
She is survived by a nephew, Merlin and Lynn Struthers, St Joseph, Mo., and their two daughters. There are also two great-great nieces and a great-great nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clifford and Orville; and sisters, Gladys FuIk and Nita Struthers.

Thompson, Parrie Lee - Parrie Lee Thompson, 83 of Clarinda, died at her home Sunday night, Oct.22,1995.
She was born May 19,1912, at Clarinda, the daughter of Lewis and Marie Mosley. She and her sister, Elizabeth Kling, were raised by grandparents, Sam and Rebecca Mosley.
She was married to Vern R. Thompson who died July 26,1973. They had farmed in the Braddyville area and after his death, she moved to Clarinda.
She is survived by two sons, Russell Thompson, Columbia, Mo., and Terry Thompson, Alliance, Ne. There are four grandchildren and four great grand­children. James Hyland, Indianapolis, In., is a half brother.
Thompson was preceded in death by parents, husband, grandson and two half brothers, Jack Hyland and Herbert Pricer, and sister, Elizabeth Kling.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, with Rev. John Clark officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in the Clarinda Cemetery.

Trueblood, Ralph - Ralph I. "Butch" Trueblood, 66, died Friday, Nov. 3, 1995 at Community Hospital, Fairfax, Mo.
He was born July 30, 1929 at Clearmont, Mo., to Samuel and Lucille Finnell Trueblood. He lived most of his life in the Burlington Junction, Mo., area.
Trueblood worked for Nodaway Township in maintenance, was a truck driver and a self-employed merchant.
He graduated from Burlington Junction High School and was a member of the Nodaway Lodge #470 AF&AM, Maryville, Mo.
He married Alene Carpenter Nov. 27,1954 at Maryville.
Survivors include his wife, Alene, of the home; sons: Stephen Trueblood, Butte, Mt.; Lowell Trueblood, Tarkio, Mo.; Kevin Trueblood, Coralville; daughter, Jolene Trueblood, Tarkio; seven grandchildren; one great grand-child; brother, Rex Trueblood, Overland Park, Ks.; one niece and three nephews.               
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Delbert.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 6 at the Burlington Junction United Methodist Church. Burial was at Ohio Cemetery, Burlington Junction.

A Masonic service was at the funeral home Sunday, followed by visitation. Barr-Merrick Funeral Chapel, Burlington Junction, was in charge of arrangements

Walker, Grace E. Brummett - Grace E. Walker, 94 of Clarinda, died at Community Care Center, Clarinda, Dec.6, 1995.
She was born at LaFolette, Tn., May 26, 1901, the daughter of John and Rushia Sutton Brummett. After the death of her father, the family moved to Clarinda, and later to Taylor County.
On Sept. 6,1919, she married Harry R. Walker. They farmed in Taylor County several years until moving to a farm near Hawleyville. In 1943, they moved to Clarinda.
She is survived by daughters, Helen Gravis, Tallahassee, FL, and Norma Caswell and husband, Robert, Clarinda; four grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers, Herman, Newman and Fred Brummett; three sisters, Helen Haxby, Ruth Root, and Lena Hale; and son-in-law, George Garvis.
The Brummett Bridge at the east edge of Clarinda was named in honor of her brother, Fred, who was the first World War I casualty from Page County.
Walker was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and American Legion Auxiliary.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 9 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, and interment was in Clarinda Cemetery.
