Myers, Albert A. -

Death of Supervisor Albert A. Myers
This community was startled and sorely grieved Monday forenoon to hear that Supervisor Albert A. Myers died suddenly at his home one mile south of Shenandoah, that morning. It is said Mr Myers arose early in the morning intending to take the 5:30 freight train from Shenandoah to Clarinda to attend the regular April meeting of the board of supervisors. But owing to the condition of the weather he changed his mind and was arranging to take the passenger at 10:40. During the morning hours he had gone out to the barn to look after stock, and not returning in a reasonable time preparatory to taking the train, members of his family went out to learn what had detained him, and found him laying on the barn floor dead. Heart trouble had done its work. He had never complained to his family about the action of his heart but it seems had mentioned it to a neighbor. His only affliction had been from indigestion.
Albert Myers was widely known over Page and Fremont counties and had a host of warm friends, his parents locating near the old town of Manti, Fremont county, in the early '60s. They now reside in Shenandoah and have advanced to a ripe old age. However, Albert spent the greater part of his life near Shenandoah in this county and had always been held in high esteem by his neighbors and acquaintances Last November he was elected member of the board of supervisor for a three years' term and January 1 entered upon his duties with Messrs I. H. Taggart and F. V. Hensleigh. At once he proved himself an active and energetic man, delving into the mysteries of the office with the evident determination of familiarizing himself there in that he might serve the people's best interests. It is said that many were his suggestions already made in the conduct of public business that better results might be obtained. But his work is now at an end and whatever good he might have accomplished is but a mere dream.
He was 53 years of age and leaves a wife and three grown children to mourn his death. One son and daughter now reside at home and one married son living near by.
The funeral was held yesterday at 3 o'clock p. m. from the Methodist church in Shenandoah of which he was a devoted and active member, and his remains laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery. PAGE COUNTY DEMOCRAT, Clarinda, Iowa, Apr 10, 1913

FAILURE TAKES LIFE OF ALBERT MYER
FOUND DEAD BY FAMILY: NO WARNING GIVEN.
Was resident of West Side for 48 years—Supervisor   and Road Expert of Fine Standing.

Entire Page county was shocked when the news wa:s phoned around Monday morning that Albert Myers of Shenandoah, lately elected member of the board of supervisors, had been found dead from heart failure in the barn at his home as he was preparing to come to the board meeting at Clarinda. Especially at the court house was his death felt severely, for although he had been coming to Clarinda only since the first of the year. When his term as a member of the board began, he had made many friends of all the court house officials by his pleasant, genial ways. He was making good on the board, too, his thorough manner of going after things, rapidly familiarizing him with the work and his experience in road work would have made him especially valuable as a member of that board. Something of his life and his death as told in the Shenandoah World are as follows:
Albert A. Myers, good roads man, county supervisor, resident of this section of Iowa for 48 years and one of the best and most favorably known of Page county farmers, died from heart failure yesterday morning between 8 and 9 o'clock at his home, south of town. His body was found by his two sons, John and Harry, lying on one of the feeding stanchions in the barn; his head was pillowed on his arm and he looked as if he might have suddenly felt weak and ill and lain down to rest.
The attack and end came without warning, although he had recently been having some difficulty with his heart, and had been doctoring on account of it for the last two weeks. His condition was not considered dangerous at all however. Of late he had often spoken of feeling unwell and lacking his usual energy, but had taken it to only he occasioned by some slight disorder. He had intended to take the early freight to Clarinda, where he was to attend a meeting of the board; on account of the rainy morning he deferred going until the 10:40 passenger train. At 8 o'clock he had not returned and his young son Harry went out to look for him. He could not find his father, so he telephoned to his hrother Harry, who lives on his farm a short distance away, and together they found their father, dead, in a darkened spot in the barn.
Albert A. Myers was born in Warren county, Ill., March 22, 1862. When he was only two years old his parents came to Sidney to live, and for the entire intervening 48 years he has lived in this community. He was a successful farmer, a good business man, one of the strong men in the Methodist church here and numbered his friends by the hundred. Of late years he has taken much interest in the good roads question and at the last election in November was elected as one of the county supervisors, being sworn into that office the first of January.
Besides the wife he leaves three children, Harry, who farms across lots from the home place; John, his younger son living at home, and Grace, the daughter living at home. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Myers, live in Shenandoah and his sister, Mrs. Thos. Beardsley, lives near Shenandoah.
The funeral services    were held Wednesday    afternoon    from the Methodist church at Shenandoah, conducted by Rev. F. W. Simpson, and were very impressive, being attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends. Practically the entire body of county officials from Clarinda attended as a mark of their esteem and sorrow, there being present County Recorder, Pfander and deputy, Miss Amy Chiles, Clark W. R. Ryerson, Sheriff G. H. Whitmore, Supervisors F. V. Hensliegh and I. H. Taggart, Auditor C. W. and Mrs. Duke, and deputy, Miss Emma Kinsey, County Supterintendent Mrs. Sarah Huftalen, Messrs. J. S. McCord., W. C. Finley, A. S. VanSandt and John Dawson. CLARINDA HERALD, Clarinda, Iowa, Apr 10, 1913
