William Monroe Cutter

William Monroe Cutter died Wednesday morning, Jan 22, at his farm near Coin, Iowa.  Death came as the results of a heart ailment that had afflicted him for about a year.

Mr. Cutter was the son of Charles D and Amelia Cutter.  His birth was Dec 19, 1873, at the Cutter homestead north of Coin.  His boyhood days were spent there.  Near his home was the Advance, or Cutter, school which he attended as a lad.

At Woodburn, Iowa, on Feb 24, 1897, he was united in marriage to Cordelia Ellen Carson.  Following their marriage they settled on a farm near his boyhood home where they have lived continuously.  The family was in the midst of preparation for the observance of their 50th wedding anniversary when he was stricken.

The children of this union are John Henry, Norwich, Iowa; Leila May Wallace, Clarinda, Iowa; Charles Carson, Denver, Colo; Minnie Cochran, Council, Idaho, Marie Bussard, Clarinda, Iowa; Amos Carlton, Shenandoah, Iowa.  There are 13 grandchildren, one of whom lost his life in the recent World War.

In addition to his wife and children, Mr. Cutter is survived by 3 sisters and 2 brothers, Izetta Brush, Colorado Spring, Colo; Cora Gilmer, Topeka, Kan; Frances Stratton, Omaha, Neb; David and John Shenandoah, Iowa.  One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Cutter was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge at Coin until it’s dissolution.  He was well known and highly esteemed by a large circle of friends.

He will be remembered by his family for his staunch goodness as a devoted husband and father.  The stream of his emotional nature did not ripple greatly on the surface, rather it was deep and sustained.  He was a genial man, possessing a quaint originality and distinct sense of humor.  He was self-taught in religion through a studious use of the Bible, and was well informed of its contents.  By example and precept, he urged his children to become students of the Word of Life.

Funeral service was  held in the Methodist church, Coin, on Saturday, Jan 25, 1947.  Interment was in Snow Hill Cemetery.

In the margin the date is noted as 1947.
