John Sydney Cuter was born in Page County, Iowa, April 30, 1889, the youngest of the nine children of Charles David Cutter and Harriet Amelia Gunn.

 

He attended Tabor College, Findlay College, Findlay, Ohio, then taught school in Page County.

 

He married Gladys Bond Gaston, then in Los Angeles, California, February 26, 1911, and moved to his ranch in Mata Gordo County, Texas.  In the fall of 1911, he returned to Shenandoah entering the insurance and real estate field where he has remained for over 50 years.

 

John was a member of Saint John’s Episcopal Church serving as Lay Reader, Clerk, member of the Bishop’s Committee and Senior Warden for many years.  He also served his church in Diocesan and Provincial offices.  His devoted interest and work was recognized by the National Headquarters.

 

He is survived by his wife Gladys, and their two children, John Sydney II, and Carolyn Laura Belle Jaeggli.  Six grandchildren John Sydney III, Elizabeth MacLaren (Mrs. Edward Turner), Robert Dick Cutter, Johanna Lois, Mary Amelia, Nathaniel David Jaeggli, and two great grandchildren, Deborah Jean Turner, Laura Helen Cutter, and one brother, Charles David Cutter, and many nieces and nephews.
