Carmichael, Margaret "Maggie" McKinley - Mrs Margaret (Maggie) Carmichael, 86, died Sunday morning at Municipal Hospital where she had been admitted on Saturday.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am, Wednesday at Walker Funeral Home with Rev John Clark officiating. Burial will be in Memory Cemetery at New Market.
She was born June 2, 1889, in Taylor County, the daughter of James Henry McKinley and Nancy Ann Mishler. She was married to William Clayton Carmichael who died in 1950. Since the death of her husband she had made her home with her children, having been with her son, Wilbur, recently.
Survivors are four children: Wilbur Carmichael of Clarinda, Mrs Norman (Tressie) Miller of Penryn, Calif, Clifford Carmichael of Clarinda, and Bill Carmichael of Rocklin, Calif. There are 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs Faye Brooks of Zillah, Wash, is a sister.
Mrs Carmichael was preceded in death by a son, Bennin, in 1962.

Fuller, Corda - Funeral services for Miss Corda Fuller of New Market will be at 10:30 am Wednesday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Jon Palmquist and Loren Daly officiating.
Miss Fuller died April 21, 1985 at Municipal Hospital where she had been admitted last Tuesday.
She was born March 10, 1898, near New Market, the daughter of John E. and Mary Levis Fuller.
She was a retired school teacher and longtime resident of New Market.
Miss Fuller is survived by one sister-in-law, Margaret Fuller of New Market and nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in Memory cemetery at New Market

Norris, Georgia Kohler - Funeral services for Georgia Norris, 74, of Clarinda will be at 10 am Tuesday at Walker Funeral Home with Rev Leslie G. Newell officiating.
Mrs Norris died Sunday morning at Municipal Hospital following a long illness. She had been making her home with her grandson Dennis Meyer at 613 S 13th.
She was born Feb 3, 1902 at St Joseph, Mo, the daughter of George and Minnie Pfliederer Kohler.
Mrs Norris had worked at MHI and Berry Seed company.
She was preceded in death by her husband Orlis (Jew) Norris in 1973, and is survived by two daughters Mrs Darrell (Joye) Welch of Braddyville and Mrs Kenneth (Ruth) Walker of Clarinda.
There are 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Her mother, Mrs Kohler is a resident of West Heights Manor.
Casket bearers will be Kenneth Walker Jr, David Welch, Troy Clark, Tim Norris, Bob Crawford and Gene Norris. Grace Perry will be organist and Joan Archer soloist.
Burial will be in Memory cemetery near New Market

Maxwell, James - James M. Maxwell, 67, longtime resident of the area died Tuesday morning at Municipal Hospital where he had been admitted the evening before. His last illness had extended from November, having been hospitalized part of this time here and at Omaha.
Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at Walker Funeral Home with Rev John Clark officiating. Grace Perry was organist. Casket bearers were: Charles Bramble, Charles Hookham, Dennis Usher, Roger Miller, Richard Osborn and Albert Nelson. Burial was in Memory cemetery at New Market.
He was born Jun 26, 1908 at Mar[y]ville, Ks, the son of Henry and Ella Anderson Maxwell. On Dec 28, 1927, he was married to Ruby Peterson, who survives. Mr Maxwell had operated heavy machinery until his retirement.
Besides his wife of the home at 327 E. Clark, Mr Maxwell is survived by two daughters: Mrs Richard (Beverly) Bramble of Clarinda and Mrs David (Barbara) Croy of Muscatine. There are four grandchildren. Two sisters are: Mrs John (Aden) Combs and Mrs Carroll (Ermel) Ingram, both of New Market.

Brummett, Ida Foster - Funeral services for Mrs Thomas M. (Ida) Brummett, 88, will be at 10:30 Wednesday in Walker Funeral Home, with burial in Memory Cemetery in New Market.
Mrs Brummett died Monday morning at West Heights Manor where she had been a resident for the past six and a half months. Prior to that, she and her husband had lived with a daughter, Mrs Margaret Maas of Omaha.
Born Dec 23, 1887 in Page County, the daughter of Joseph Foster and Sara Linebaugh, she was married to Thomas Brummett Nov 20, 1907.
Besides her husband, survivors include three children, Thomas K. Brummett of New Market, Mrs Max (Katheryn) Kendrick of Clarinda and Mrs Clarence (Margaret) Maas of Omaha. There are nine grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.Cecil Foster of Sioux Falls, SD is a brother and sisters are Mrs Frank (Winnie) Anderson of Glendive, Mont and Mrs Arthur (Maude) Hale of Pontiac, Ill.

McNutt, John R. - Funeral services for John R. McNutt, 97, longtime Hawleyville resident will be at 2 pm, Tuesday at Walker Funeral Home with Rev Melvin White officiating.
He was born June 5, 1879, in Page county, the son of Eli McNutt and Maggie Gingery. He was married to Sarah Baker who preceded him in death in 1959.
McNutt had farmed and in later years had a truck garden at Hawleyville. He had been a patient at Garden View care center in Shenandoah for the past 18 months. He died there Saturday evening.
Before going to the rest home, he had stayed part time at the home of his nephew and family, Mr and Mrs Lewis Baker in Villisca.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Beryl and Cecil and one infant daughter, Wilda.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
Casket bearers at the service will be Eddie Fidler, Don Winger, Harold Hakes, Lloyd Lininger, Kenneth Pratt and Roy Kincheloe.
Burial will be in Memory cemetery at New Market.

Ross, LeRoy P. - LeRoy P. Ross, 70, of New Market died Friday night at Municipal Hospital where he had been a patient for 11 days.
He was born Aug 29, 1906, the son of Lemuel Ross and Fleta Besser, and was married to Letha Ridnour in 1928.
Mr and Mrs Ross had lived away from this area for a number of years, returning to New Market in 1973 to retire. Mrs Ross died Jan 28 of this year.
Ross had been an operating engineer for Superior Blacktop prior to his retirement.
Survivors include three children, Leon Ross of Clio, Mich; Darlene Teachworth of Flushing, Mich and Jerry Ross of West Chicago, Ill.
There are 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Brothers are Cecil H. Ross of New Market and Paul C. Ross of Nebraska City, Neb and sisters are Lela Keith of Shenandoah, Alice Glasgow of New Market and Audrey Johnston of North Liberty.
Ross was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one sister and one brother.
Funeral services were held this Monday afternoon at Walker Funeral Home with Loren Daly officiating. Shirley Larson was soloist and Lois Moore organist.
Casketbearers were Jerry Ross, Leon Ross, David Abbott, Arthur Burnham, Steven Abbott and Rick Sherman.
Burial was in Memory Cemetery at New Market.

McKay, Crumley - Crumley McKay, 78, East River township farmer died Wednesday at Municipal Hospital where he had been admitted earlier in the morning.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm, Friday at Walker Funeral Home with Loren Daly officiating.
McKay was born Nov 23, 1897, at Greenville, Tenn, the son of Oscar and Melisa Hayes McKay. Dec 14, 1921 he was married to Clarice Peterman who survives.
McKay served in WWI and was a member of the New Market Legion Post.
Besides his wife of the home, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth C. McKay of Clarinda and Carrol McKay of New Market. There are four grandchildren.
Rosevelyn Bashor will be soloist and Mary Anderson organist for the service.
Casket bearers will be Dale Hartstack, Eldon Fine, Tom Hayes, Merritt Foster, Harold Ellison and Harry Dideriksen, and honorary bearers will be Hugh Loudon, Dale Crawford, Clarence Bales, Anton Benson, Jake Bonsall and Alva Bloom.
Burial will be in Memory cemetery with military services at the graveside.

Gant, Hazel Borden - Funeral services for Mrs Hazel Gant, 74, of rural New Market will be at 2 pm Saturday at Walker Funeral Home with Rev Ron Blix of New Market officiating.
Mrs Gant died Wednesday morning at Municipal Hospital after being admitted on Tuesday evening.
She was born in Page County, the daughter of William Homer Borden and Carrie Elizabeth Manley. She was married to Cecil Gant who died in 1956. Mrs Gant lived four miles southeast of New Market.
She is survived by two brothers, Ralph Borden of New Market and Frank W. Borden of Salem, Ore.
Mr and Mrs Maynard Burch will have the music at the services. Casket bearers will be Halbert Hensley, Glenn Stewart, Corwin Mauderly, Ralph Cox, Alan Cox and Laverne Young. Burial will be in Memory Cemetery at New Market.

Foster, Clarice Adel Clark - Clarice Adel Clark, daughter of Helen M and Geo W Clark, was born December 20, 1868, in Page County, Iowa. She passed away Nov 15, 1944, at St Mary's Hospital in Pierre, So Dak, at the age of 75 years and 11 months following a lingering illness.
On July 4, 1888, she was united in marriage to Richard L Foster. She is survived by Mr Foster, a daughter, Helen J. Clark of Shenandoah, a son, Richard Jr of Lemmon, S Dak, two sisters, Mrs Addie Wood of King City, Mo, and Mrs Hattie King of New Market.
Mrs Foster grew to womanhood and spent practically all of her early life in Iowa. She received her education at the Memory and New Market schools. She spent many years as a pioneer school teacher in Iowa.
For the past 30 years she has resided in South Dakota.
Funeral services were held Nov 19th in the New Market Methodist church. Officiating clergymen were Richard J. Dieken of Clarinda, and Rev Uhlinger of Shenandoah. Miss Carrie Loranz played the service, and Mrs F.H. Davidson and Mrs Arlo Hawley sang. |

Wilmes, John H. - John H. Wilmes, 59, of New Market died Saturday morning at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, where he had been taken the evening before.
The funeral mass will be at 10 am Tuesday at St Clare Catholic Church with Father Nelo Leto officiating. The wake service will be at 8 pm this Monday evening at Walker Funeral Home. Burial is in Memory Cemetery at New Market.
Mr Wilmes was born June 5, 1916 at Parnell, Mo, the son of John George Wilmes and Magdalena Hinkle. He had been a farmer and later worked for Taylor County.
His wife Lela preceded him in death in 1970.
He is survived by seven children: John Larry Wilmes of Savannah, Mo, Mrs Lyle (Judy) Alexander of Gravity, Sharon Wilmes of Ralston, Neb, Mrs Tony (Connie) Silva of New Market, Michael Wilmes and Mrs John (Debbie) Strelko of Ralston, and Gregory Wilmes of the home. There are 13 grandchildren.
Brothers are Ernest Wilmes of Conception Jct, Mo, Marion Wilmes of Maryville, Mo, Ambrose Wilmes of Ida Grove, and Allie Wilmes of Stanberry, Mo. Sisters are Mrs Byron (Viola) Yates of Maryville, Mo, and Mrs Jim (Pat) O'Donnell of Bolckow, Mo.
Mrs Ruth Garrett will be organist at the service. Casket bearers will be Leslie Yearous, Pat Yearous, Floyd Jobe, Orval Ridnour, Bradley Larson, and Ralph Cozad.

Steeves, Wayne Lowell - Services for Wayne Lowell Steeves, 79, were held this Thursday at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Home at Bedford with the Rev Carl Cummings officiating. Burial was at Memory Cemetery at New Market.
He was in the Veteran Hospital at Omaha at time of his death on June 21 [1976].
Steeves, the youngest son of William M. and Etta E. Steeves, was born in Harlan Township, Page County, Dec 8, 1896. On July 15, 1935, he was married to Florence M. Pratt, who preceded him in death Jan 15, 1969.
His father and mother and three brothers preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Fern Owen of Clarinda and nieces and nephews.
The family had moved to Taylor County in 1901 and settled in the Gravity vicinity where Wayne attended his first few school years at a rural school. In 1906 they moved to New Market where he was graduated from high school.
In 1916 he was employed by the New Market Savings Bank. He served in the Army during World War I, and in 1919 he returned to the bank as cashier and served in that capacity until 1929. He was employed by the New Market and Clarinda Coal Companies for a period of 15 years.
He held public offices including mayor of New Market, town clerk, township clerk, school secretary, treasurer of Taylor County and clerk of the district court.
In 1951 he resigned as clerk and accepted employment with the office of the Auditor of State in the capacity of state examiner which he continued for ten years prior to his retirement in 1961. He had been a resident of Bedford since January 1945.
He was a Mason and a member of the American Legion, receiving 50-year certificates from both orders in 1968.

Dougherty, Olive Thompson - Mrs Olive B. Dougherty, 96, of New Market died Sunday afternoon at her home following a long illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday at Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda with Carl Cummings officiating.
Mrs Dougherty was born Oct 16, 1879, near Clarinda, the daughter of Richard Francis Thompson and Elizabeth Jane Farrell. She was married to Ora Elbert Dougherty, who died June 19, 1919.
She is survived by two children, Mrs Geneva Beery of Paradise, Calif, and Mrs Lorence (Maxine) Hanson of New Market. Mrs Dougherty made a home for two grandsons, Fred Carpenter of Clarinda and Max Carpenter of New Market, following the death of their mother Marie Carpenter. She is survived by seven other grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was the eldest of five children and the last member of her family. Besides her daughter, Mrs Carpenter, she was preceded in death by a son Francis Dougherty.
Casket bearers for the services will be family members. Mrs Grace Perry will be organist. Burial will be in the Memory cemetery at New Market.
Rebekah Lodge 427 of New Market will have services at the funeral home.

Foster, Joseph H. - Joseph H. Foster, 72, died Saturday afternoon in the same home where he was born east of Clarinda on Oct 3, 1903. He was the son of Homer Foster and Lucretia Merritt.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm Tuesday at Walker Funeral Home with Rev Ron Blix officiating. Mary Anderson will be organist. Casket bearers will be Carroll, Jim, Dan, Donald and Dusty Foster, Keith Wright and Roger Harris. Burial will be in Memory cemetery at New Market.
The family is to meet friends at the funeral home from 7-8 pm this Monday evening.
Memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association of Iowa.
On March 21, 1923, he was married to Hazel Combs who survives. Two sons also surviving are Estle Foster and Ronald Foster both of Clarinda, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

JOSEPH HOMER FOSTER - [obituary read at funeral] We are here this afternoon in loving memory of Joseph Homer Foster, youngest son of Homer Benton Foster and Lucretia Merritt Foster.
Joseph Foster was born Oct 3, 1903 in the same house in Page County, Iowa, where he died May 15, 1976 at the age of 72 years, 7 months, 12 days.
Mr Foster received his education in rural schools and settled down to a life of farming. On Mar 21, 1923 he married Hazel Combs and began a marital partnership that was to span over a half a century. To this union were born two sons, Estle and Ronald, both of rural Clarinda.
After over 30 years on the farm, Joseph was forced to cease farming for health reasons, and then worked for 12 years at the Mental Health Institute in Clarinda, retiring in 1968.
Preceding Mr Foster in death were his parents, his sister Florence Wamsley, and his brothers Sam and Fred.
Joseph Foster has left behind; his wife Hazel, his sons Estle and Ronald, and daughter-in-law Sharon. His grandchildren, Mrs Keith (Patty) Wright, Mrs Roger (Susan) Harris, and Carroll, Jim, Beth, Dan, Donald, Joe Jr and Leesa Foster. His great-grandchildren Nancy and Brenda Foster and Michelle and Julie Wright.
Joseph was a man who loved his home, his farm and his livestock. It can be said he never passed up an opportunity to help his neighbors and friends. His friendly face will be sadly missed.
Services were held May 18, 1976 at Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda, Iowa. Rev Ron Blix was clergyman, and Mary Anderson organist.
Casket bearers were his grandsons Carroll Foster, Jim Foster, Dan Foster, Donald Foster, Dusty Foster, Keith Wright and Roger Harris.
Burial was in Memory Cemetery, New Market, Iowa.

Foster, Hazel Combs - Funeral services for Hazel M. Foster, 82, of Clarinda will be at 1:30 pm, Thursday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, with Rev Fred Malone officiating.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7-8 pm on Wednesday.
Mrs Foster died Jan 20, 1986 in the morning at Clarinda Municipal Hospital where she had been hospitalized since Jan 8.
She was born July 10, 1903, near New Market, Ia, the daughter of George Combs and Lida Lathrop.
She was married to Joseph Foster on March 21, 1923. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1976.
Mrs Foster had worked at M.H.I. for 13 years as a ward attendant.
She is survived by two sons, Estle Foster and Ronald Foster, both of Clarinda. There are eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Brothers and sisters are Dale Combs, New Market, Ernest Combs, Livermore, Ca, Florence Hutchinson, Springfield, Mo, Valera Abbott, Springfield, Mo, Mildred Benard, Oakley, Ca, Phyllis Jackson, Hayward, Ca, and Orlene Marshall, Blue Springs, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, one grandson, and one great-grandson.
A memorial fund is being established.
Burial will be in Memory cemetery near New Market.

Whitehead, Shirley A. Hughes - Mrs Shirley A. Whitehead, 60, of the Clarinda area died Sunday afternoon at Medicenter in Omaha after being hospitalized following surgery last July.
Services are not yet set, but will be from Walker Funeral Home, with burial in the Memory Cemetery at New Market.
She was born June 22, 1916, in Page County, the daughter of Ferman D. Hughes and Ethel Ellison. She was married to Lee Whitehead June 30, 1936. Mr Whitehead died Jan 2, 1975. They had farmed in Page and Taylor Counties, their last residence being south of Siam. Mrs Whitehead had worked at MHI for 10 years, retiring in 1974.
She is survived by three children:: Dusty Whitehead of Clarinda, Mrs Bill (Kay) Rock of Braddyville and Mrs Leonard (Faye) Anderson of Omaha. There are four grandchildren and one brother, Lowell Hughes of Philomath, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Wendell Hughes and infant grandson.

Shirley Anne Whitehead, the daughter of Ferman D. Hughes and Ethel M. Ellison Hughes, was born Jan 22, 1916, on a farm in Page County in East River township. She departed from this life Feb 22, 1976 at Medicenter in Omaha, Nebr at age of 60 years, 1 month.
She lived her early life in the area around Clarinda and adult years in Page and Taylor County on a farm.
June 30, 1936, she was united in marriage to Lee H. Whitehead. To this marriage were born three children: Dusty Whitehead, Clarinda, Mrs Bill (Kay) Rock, Braddyville and Mrs Leonard (Faye) Anderson, Omaha, Nebr.
She was employed at Clarinda Mental Health Institute for a period of ten years, until she was forced to retire because of illness. At this time she went to live with her daughter, Faye.
Seven months ago she entered University of Nebraska Hospital and underwent surgery for a brain tumor. She recovered for a few days and then went into a coma. She remained in this condition at Medicenter in Omaha from August, until her death.
In addition to her three children she is survived by one daughter-in-law, Sue Whitehead, two sons-in-law, Bill Rock and Leonard Anderson; four grandchildren, Kathy and Kurt Cabbage, Mike Whitehead and Kris Anderson; one brother, Lowell Hughes of Philomath, Ore and a host of relatives and friends. She enjoyed her gandchildren very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lee, one grandchild, Darian Dean Rock, and a brother, Wendal Elwood Hughes.
She was [a] member of the First Christian Church in Clarinda joining in 1938. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her.
Services were from Walker Funeral Home, Clarinda on Feb 26, 1976, at 2 pm with Rev Bettie Hull officiating and singing. Mrs Grace Perry was organist at the services. Pall bearers were Marvin Ellison, Frankie Young, Dale Loghry, Mervin Husband, Ralph McElroy, Wilbur Lininger. Mrs Hope Milleson was at the register. Final resting place was in Ola Memory Cemetery at New Market.

Ross, Letha Velna Ridnour - Funeral services for Mrs Letha Ross, 67, of New Market were held Saturday afternoon at Walker Funeral Home with Loren Daly officiating.
Mrs Ross died Wednesday night at her home in New Market where she and her husband Leroy Ross had lived for the past 2 years.
A native of Taylor County, she and her husband had lived in other parts of the county until returning to New Market for retirement.
Besides her husband of the home, she is survived by three children: Leon of Clio, Mich, Mrs Darlene Teachworth of Flushing, Mich, and Jerry of West Chicago, Ill. There are 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Lois Moore was organist and Shirley Larson soloist. Casket bearers were family members, Albert Radke, David Abbott, Art Burnham, Jack Jones, Leon Ross and Jerry Ross. Burial was in Memory cemetery at New Market.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Darrell Leroy.

Services are pending for Letha Velna Ross, 67, who died late Wednesday night at her home in New Market.
Mrs Ross was born April 30, 1908, near New Market to Levi Ridnour and Myrtle Johnson. In 1928 she was married to Leroy Ross, who survives. The Rosses have lived in New Market the past two years, living in West Chicago for 15 years prior.
Survivors include: her husband; three children, Leon of Clio, Mich, Mrs Dearlene Teachworth of Flushing, Mich, and Jerry of West Chicago, Ill; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Darrell Leroy.

Noble, Walter G. - Services for Walter G. Noble, 79, lifetime resident of Taylor County, are pending following his death Sunday night at West Heights Manor in Clarinda, where he has lived since January of 1974.
He was born in Dallas Township near New Market, and his wife, Zetta, survives him at their home just west of New Market. He farmed during most of his active life, but was a licensed practical nurse, was employed in his later years by Clarinda Coal Co and after retirement did work for Taylor County.
Twin sons are Billy Kemp Noble of Glendora, Cal, and Frederick Noble of Martenburg, WVa, and a nephew, John D. Herren of Council Bluffs, who was reared in the Noble home.
Details of the service can be known through Walker Funeral Home. Carl Cummings of Bedford and the Rev Ron Blix of the New Market United Methodist Church will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Memory Cemetery.

Anderson, William - William Anderson, 83, of Clarinda died Sunday afternoon at Municipal Hospital [Clarinda, Iowa], where he had been a patient for the past week.
He was born near New Market on June 13, 1892, the son of James Anderson and Lydia Carmichael. He had worked in the coal mines of this area and at the Farmer's Co-op.
He had been at the home of his brother Pete Anderson in Clarinda.
Funeral services for Mr Anderson will be at 2 pm Thursday at Walker Funeral Home with the Rev John Clark officiating. Burial will be in Memory cemetery at New Market.
Besides his brother Pete, he is survived by a brother, Harry Anderson of Red Oak, and a sister, Corda Cross of Clarinda. Margaret Carmichael of Clarinda is an aunt. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Allen, Anna [Shoats] Noble - Mrs Anna Noble Allen, 88, former Clarinda resident, died this Monday morning at Epley Care Center in Omaha following a year of illness.
Mrs Allen had made her home in Glenwood with her daughter, Ruth Spargur, until her health forced her to the Care Center.
She was married to J.S. Noble who died in 1949. Later she was married to James E. Allen who preceded her in death.
She is survived by two children: Ruth Spargur of Glenwood and Eulah Pease of Morris Plains, N.J. There are three grandsons. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Janusz, in 1971.
Burial will be in Memory Cemetery at New Market with arrangements pending at Walker Funeral Home.

Foster, Clarice Abel - Funeral services for Mrs Estle (Clarice) Foster, 49, of rural Clarinda were conducted at the Clarinda Memorial Chapel, Saturday with the Rev Ron Blix officiating. Interment was in the Memory Cemetery at New Market.
Mrs Foster, a resident of the New Market area since 1944, died at the Municipal Hospital Wednesday after being ill for several years. She was born Oct 6, 1926, at Des Moines, the daughter of Elmer Abel and Frieda Lock. Her mother died when she was 9 years old, and from that time on she spent her summers with the Raymond Johnsons, near New Market. She came to live with the Johnsons during her senior year in high school and graduated from New Market High School in 1944.
After graduation she taught school in the Guss area. She was united in marriage to Estle Foster on Oct 23, 1945, at Troy, Kan. She taught Sunday school classes for many years at the Shambaugh and New Market Methodist churches and was a member of LSHC club.
She is survived by her husband Estle: four children, Carroll of Clarinda, James of the home, Mrs Keith (Patty) Wright, and Mrs Roger (Susan) Harris, both of New Market; four granddaughters; her stepmother, Mrs Scharlotte Abel of Omaha; foster parents, Mr and Mrs Raymond Johnson of Clarinda; two brothers, Clair Abel of Ephrata, Wash, and Cloyce Abel of Creston; one sister, Mrs Eugene Houchin of Gravity. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Casket bearers were Verlin Cade, Richard Holste, Duane Sunderman, Rollyn Sunderman, Herbert Tally and Elza West. Mrs Duane Sunderman and Mrs Richard Holste were in charge of the registers. In charge of the music was Mrs Darrel Damewood.
A memorial was established to the American Cancer Society.

Livingston, Nancy Jane Jones - Gravity Independent, May 31, (1923).
Mrs Nancy Jane Livingston, nee Jones, was born in Fulton county, Ill., March 15, 1835. Here she grew to womanhood and while in early youth came into a saving fellowship with Christ and united with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she remained a faithful and consecrated member. In the year 1856 she was united in marriage to Mr. Livingston and to this union were born five sons and three daughters, one of whom preceded her in death.
In the year of 1880 she with her family came to Iowa, settling in Johnson county and a little later to Page county where she made her home until the time of her death.
Mrs Livingston was a faithful companion and a patient mother. She came down to old age with a grace and spirit which is but the result of a righteous life and a living trust in God. She said that one of the things for which she had prayed was that when she had grown old that she might be patient, and surely her prayers were answered.
Death came at the home of her son, Reuben Livingston, of Gravity, about 9:30 in the evening, May 24, 1923, after having reached the ripe old age of 88 years 2 months and 9 days. She has gone to meet her Savior, her husband who preceded her twenty-three years ago, and infant daughter, and leaves to mourn their loss her children, Alonzo of Hastings, Nebr.; Ben of Bedford; Harley of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; Henry of Braddyville; Reuben of Gravity; Mrs Fred Fisher of Clarinda and Mrs William McFarland of Gravity; twenty-six grand children, twenty great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service was held at the R. Livingston home here at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon and the body was taken to Old Memory cemetery near New Market, where interment was made. Rev J.R. McNichols of the Methodist church here conducted the funeral service. |
