Usher, Dennis (Dee) Usher, age 73, of Clarinda, Iowa died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa. Graveside services were held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Clarinda Cemetery with Rev. John Clark officiating. There was open visitation at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home. Burial was be in the Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to Clarinda Fire Department or Westridge Care & Rehab Center. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Dennis Lee Usher was born July 16, 1931 at Clarinda, Iowa to Bishop Usher and Clara (Simmons) Usher. Dee served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage November 27, 1952 at the Christian Church Parsonage, Clarinda, Iowa to Patty Hollis. Dee had worked for the City of Clarinda, Berry Seed Company and retired from the Lisle Corporation. He also owned and operated Dee's Saddle and Leather Repair. Dee was very active in the Clarinda Fire Department for twenty years; retiring as Assistant Chief. He had a horse and carriage for many years giving rides and in parades.
Preceding Dee in death were his parents; brother, Fred ; sister, Carolyn Woody and grandson, Casey Murphy. Survivors include his wife, Patty of Clarinda, Iowa; son, Curtis Usher of Reno, Nevada; daughter, Becky Murphy and husband Merlin (Hap) of Clarinda, Iowa; son, William Usher of Gower, Missouri; three grandchildren, Rhonda Grebert, Toja Usher, Dannelle Arthur; five great grandchildren; brothers, Don and wife Dixie of Scappoose, Oregon and Ronald and wife Cristina of Grants Pass, Oregon.
 
Underwood, Glenn "Clark" - Clark passed away on Saturday evening, September 5, 2009 at the Garden View Care Center.

The funeral procession will depart from the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 a.m.

Glenn Clark Underwood was born on December 10, 1915 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Glenn Earl and Etta Wanda (Clark) Underwood. Clark entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah.
Clark’s early years were spent in the Tarkio, Missouri area. He attended school in Tarkio and graduated from Tarkio High School with the Class of 1933. On August 30, 1938 Clark was united in marriage to Geraldine Ness “the pretty girl in the dress” and the couple made their home in Shenandoah.
Upon moving to Shenandoah Clark began his employment at the Ford Garage in Shenandoah from 1939 until he enlisted in the Army Air Force on November 7, 1942. Clark was stationed at Dalhart and Pryote, TX, Moses Lake, WA, and Sioux City, IA. He was a turret gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress stationed in England. Their plane was shot down off the coast of France on March 27, 1944 and he was captured and detained for 14 months. During the time of his captivity Gerry gave birth to their daughter Kerry Lynne on April 19, 1944 who was born in the Naval Hospital in San Diego. Upon his release and discharge from the service, the new family resided in Santa Ana, CA and San Diego, CA for a short time before returning to Shenandoah. Still eager to serve his country he enlisted in the National Guard in 1948 and Army Reserves in 1949.
Clark returned to his job in the parts department at the Ford garage until being called back in to active duty in October of 1950, this time serving in Korea. Upon returning home he again continued his work in the Ford garage, and later worked at International Harvester, and Sidles/Mr. Automotive as a Parts Department Manager and Inventory Controller.
Some of Clark’s interests included playing softball and baseball, bowling, photography, and camping. He was a member of the American Legion, National P.O.W., Purple Heart, D.A.V., 447th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, Aerial Gunmen’s Association, and Korean War Veteran’s Association. During his service to our country Clark earned several medals during WW II and Korea including; Air Medal, Military Order of Purple Heart, Bronze Star, European Theater, Asiatic/Pacific and Korean Service, each with 3 Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense, American Defense, American Campaign, WW II Victory, U.N. Service, Army Reserve Achievement, Presidential Unit and Korean Unit Citation, and American and Allied Prisoner-of-War Medals.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife Geraldine; daughter Kerry Lynne England and husband Tom; grandsons Brady England and wife Janine and Bryce England and wife Jenny; great-granddaughter Eliza Love England; and serveral nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Brett England, brother Carroll Earl Underwood, stepfather Willis “Bill” Law and half-sister Carolyn Wylie.

Graveside services were held on Monday, September 14, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at the Randolph Cemetery in Randolph, Iowa. Words of comfort were given by the Rev. Clark Finehout of the Shenandoah First United Methodist Church. Members of the Shenandoah American Legion Post #88 served as casket bearers. Military honors were provided by the Shenandoah American Legion Post #88 and the Offutt Air Force Funeral Honor Detail. Burial was in the Randolph Cemetery. Memorials in Clark's name are being directed to the Central Iowa Honor Flight. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah was in charge of the arrangements.
