Zirfas, Clarence Edward - Clarence Zirfas, 65, of Villisca, Iowa, died Monday, May 12, 2008 at Montgomery County Hospital in Red Oak. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2008, at the Villisca United Methodist Church with burial in the Villisca Cemetery following the services. Family visitation will be held 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wolfe Funeral Home.
Clarence Edward Zirfas was born on a farm outside of Conception, Mo. on July 3, 1942 to George and Agatha Zirfas. He attended grade school and middle school at Tarkio, MO. In 1957, his family moved to Shenandoah, IA where he attended high school. He graduated from Shenandoah Community High School in 1960. While in High School, he joined the Iowa National Guard and worked various jobs in Shenandoah until 1965 when he joined the Air Force. He was in the Air Force until 1973.
In 1969, he married Carolyn S. Race, his wife of 39 years. They had two sons. They lived in Imogene before moving to Shenandoah where they lived until their children graduated from High School. He went to the Persian Gulf with 172nd Transportation Company in Omaha, NE.
He retired from Eaton Corp. at Shenandoah, IA in 1998 with 24 years and 4 months service. He retired from the military in 1993 as Sgt (E5) with 22 years and 9 months combined service. After retirement, he lived for 3 years in southern Missouri before moving back to Villisca, Iowa. He served in several positions in the VFW Post 8998 of Villisca. Most recently he served as Commander of American Legion Post 251 of Villisca.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Robert Zirfas, Donald Zirfas and Jim Zirfas; 1 sister, Agnes Burmania.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Carolyn Zirfas of Omaha, NE; 2 sons, Ronald Zirfas of Red Oak and Darin Zirfas of Ankeny; 1 grandson, Brandon Zirfas; 2 brothers, Joe Zirfas and wife Sue of Shenandoah, Charles Zirfas and wife Pam of Springfield, MO; 4 sisters Mildred Harris of Shenandoah, Mary Smith and husband John of Van Buren, AR, Joyce Gibson and husband Bill of Shenandoah, Veronica Lorimor and husband Jim of Imogene; and many nieces and nephews.

Zirfas, Joseph Leo - Joseph Leo Zirfas was born July 4, 1935 in Clyde, Missouri, the son of George Sabastian and Agatha Cecilia (Steinhauser) Zirfas. He passed away on Wednesday morning, March 31, 2010 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 27 days.

Joe grew up in the Tarkio, Missouri area and graduated from Tarkio High School with the class of 1954. On July 10, 1954, Joe was united in marriage to Sue Carol Barnett at the Catholic Church in Tarkio, Missouri. This union was blessed with nine children, Barbara, Deborah, Patricia, William, Connie, Brenda, Joseph Jr., Rebecca and Larry.

Joe worked as a farmhand for 24 years around the area. He also drove a truck for Shaw Implement for many years. He was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shenandoah. He enjoyed woodworking and reading. He also helped Sue with her sewing business at home. Joe was an avid collector of oil lamps and toy John Deere tractors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step father, Bill Gibson; a son, Larry Zirfas; two brothers, James and Clarence Zirfas; and a sister, Agnes Burminia.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Zirfas of Shenandoah, Iowa; his children, Barbara Sue Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa, Deborah Ann Brannen and her husband Greg of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Patricia Kay Glassinger of Farragut, Iowa, William Joseph Zirfas of Tarkio, Missouri, Connie Rae McElroy of Gretna, Nebraska; Brenda Lee Dunn of Gretna, Nebraska, Joseph Leo Zirfas, Jr. and his wife Lori of Nolensville, Tennessee, Rebecca Lyn Fuller and her husband Greg of Spring Hill, Tennessee; 22 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; four sisters, Mildred Harms of Shenandoah, Iowa, Mary Smith and her husband John of Iola, Kansas, Veronica Lorimor and her husband Jim of Imogene, Iowa, Joyce Gibson and her husband Bill of Shenandoah, Iowa; a brother, Charles Zirfas and his wife Pam of Springfield, Missouri, along with many other relatives and friends.
