Akens, Jackie Cagley - Jackie Cagley Akens, 89, longtime Grand Junction, Ariz., resident died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at her Grand Junction home after a lengthy illness. Jackie was born September 18, 1918 to Lee and Frances Cagley in Clarinda, Iowa. Jackie was the fourth of five children.

Jackie met Charles R. (Chick) Akens in Grand Junction and they were married on November 21, 1941.

Jackie and Chick ran a sewing machine and shoe repair shop in the Fruitvale area. Later, Jackie owned the Akens Tax and Accounting Service which she operated until retirement. Jackie and Chick were very active in the Pochontas and Redmen organizations, holding numerous offices as they enjoyed traveling to state meetings. Jackie was a member of the Grand Junction Womens Bowling Association and enjoyed league bowling well into her 80’s . Jackie loved watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren play baseball and softball. She was their greatest fan, rarely missing a game.

Jackie was always the one with a smile on her face and a ready laugh at herself or any funny incident. We believe she lived by her favorite saying, “I’m doing better and better” and inspired others to think they could be also. Jackie had been a resident of The Commons for the last few years.

Jackie was preceded in death by her husband Charles Akens, step-son Bill Akens and her sisters Ruth Munson and Dorothy (Dee) Kennedy.

Jackie is survived by her daughter-in-law Roberta Akens, grandchildren Michael (Donna) Akens, Michele (David) Stevenson and Mark Akens, four great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, brother Merrill Cagley and sister Marjorie (Marge) Miller along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Martin Mortuary with burial at Orchard Mesa Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Gideons International, P.O. Box 446, Clifton, Colo 81520.


Adair, Jerry - Jerry Adair, age 54, of St. Joseph, Missouri died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at a St. Joseph Hospital. He was born on March 24, 1947 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was raised in Clarinda, Iowa and moved to St. Joseph, Missouri in 1983.

He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He had worked as a heavy equipment operator for Buchanan County, Missouri the past ten years.

On March 26, 1983 he married Gartha Holder in Clarinda, Iowa. He is survived by his wife of the home, children, Gabe L. Adair of St. Joseph, Missouri, Shelia McArthur of Boone, Iowa, Niki J. Meyer of Dubuque, Iowa, step children Todd M. Jagodzinski of St. Joseph, Missouri, Tina DeAnda of Dubuque, Iowa, four brothers, Kenneth Adair of Shenandoah, Iowa, Keith Adair of Underwood, Iowa, Bobby Adair of Killeen, Texas, Les Adair of Clarinda, Iowa, six sisters, LaVonne Palmer of Plant City, Florida, Jean Jones of St. Joseph, Missouri, Kay Smith of Montrose, Iowa, Anne Cross of Middletown, Iowa, Phyllis Haugon of Shakopee, Minnesota, Linda Mace of Clarinda, Iowa, three grandchildren, and two step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Orville and Ruby Urcil Sullivan Adair.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 9, 2001 at the Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph, Missouri. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials were suggested to the Glenn Miller V.F.W. Post #9230 of Clarinda, Iowa. The Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Funeral Chapel of St. Joseph, Missouri was in charge of arrangements.

 

Adair, Kenneth Harold - Kenneth Harold Adair was born at Henderson, Iowa on September 8, 1938 the son of Kenneth Orval and Ruby Sullivan Adair. He grew up in Southwest Iowa in the Stanton and Villisca areas where he attended schools. After his formal education he worked in the area and served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1959.
He was married to Myrna Dorl in October of 1957 at New Market, Iowa. They had five children together.
Kenneth worked for a tire recapping company from 1959 until 1966. He then started driving a truck and traveling the road until retiring in 2001. He enjoyed working with model cars, knife sharpening, and small engines. Kenneth was a resident of Shenandoah with his companion Doloris Smith for over twenty five years.
Survivors include Doloris Smith of Shenandoah, Ia.; children Leanard and wife Justine Adair of Tyrone, Ok., Roberta Martin of Clarinda, Ia., Debbie and husband Jim Park of Bedford, Ia., Curtis Adair and companion Patty of Clarinda, Ia.: son-in-law Keith Larsen of Clarinda, Ia.; nine grandchildren; Heather Newkirk, Lindsay Sherrill, Tessa and Cole Park, Ashley Martin, Drewshannon Leham, Brooke and Katie Larsen, and Mykayla Westover: four great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters, Lavonne and husband Jim Palmer of Fl., Kay and husband Doyle Smith of Keokuk, Ia., Keith and wife Martha Adair of Underwood, Ia., Annie and husband Francis Cross of Burlington, Ia., Bobby Adair of Clarinda, Ia., Phyllis and husband Tom Haugen of Wi., Linda and husband Harlan Mace of Clarinda, Ia., and Less and wife Denise Adair of Fl.; Nieces and nephews; and Doloris children Michele Smith, Shawn and Letty Smith; Michele’s children Kyle Smith and Ian Hilker.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter Rhonda Larsen; one brother Jerry Adair; one sister Jean Jones; and one grandson Cody.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday December 15, 2008 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. With Internment at the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda Iowa. The Tradition of Walker-Merrick Funeral Home served the Family.


Adams, Colleen - Colleen Adams, 80, formerly of Shenandoah, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2007, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. Memorials are being directed to the charity of the donor's choice.

Colleen Adams, daughter of Ruth VanGundy Adams and JeRome Adams, was born in Shenandoah, Iowa on January 16, 1927. She passed away June 2, 2007 in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 80.

Colleen graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1944 and received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, in 1948.

Colleen taught elementary physical education in the Kansas City, Missouri, Public Schools from 1948 until she retired in 1985. Her Master of Arts in 1953 was from Teachers College of Columbia University, New York City. The 1959-1960 school year was spent as a physical education teacher in a Department of Defense elementary school in Munich, Germany.

She was a life long Methodist and was a member of Central United Methodist church in Kansas City. She was a member of its Joanna Guild. She was a member and former president of Chi Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was an over fifty year member and former president of chapter DR, P.E.O. Sisterhood. She served twelve years as a trustee on the board of the Retirement Systems of the Kansas City Schools.

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her sister, Barbara (Adams) Reese of Omaha, NE; brother Donald G. Adams and wife Alberta of Plano, TX; niece, Molly (Reese) Stacey and her husband Dr. Richard Stacey and their two children Courtney and Austin of Omaha, NE; other relatives and many friends.


Adams, Gladys Rankin - Gladys Adams, age 92, of Clarinda, Iowa died on Friday, February 2, 2001 at her home in Clarinda.

She was born on November 28, 1908 in Taylor County, Iowa, the daughter Ira and Elsie Stewart Rankin.

She was a graduate of Hopkins High School.

On February 25, 1927 she was married to Claude (Babe) Adams. He died on February 25, 1973. She took her LPN training in 1951. She was a supervisor at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute retiring after 35 years. She was survived by her daughter Betty Jo Maley of Clarinda, Iowa, and grandson Jim Maley of Castlerock, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Bobby Don Adams at age 2, and sister Audrey Haarstick.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 5, 2001 at Walker-Merrick with Daniel Wallace and Pastor Alvin Trusty officiating. Burial was in the Memory Cemetery at New Market, Iowa. Memorials were suggested to the Omaha Home for Boys or to the Little Indians of South Dakota. Walker-Merrick was in charge of arrangements.

 

 


Adams, Grace Elizabeth Warrick - Grace Elizabeth (Warrick) was born on April 29, 1915 at Hawleyville, Iowa, one of fifteen children, the daughter of Fielden and Miriam Elizabeth McWilliams Warrick. Her mother died when she was eight years old and she lived with sisters and brothers at various locations. She lived with her brother Calvin and started school in Omaha, Nebraska. After the eighth grade she moved back to the Clarinda area. On September 15, 1932 she was married to Paul Wilson Adams at Grant City, Missouri. They lived in the New Market area and Grace became a devoted mother and housewife. She had been a longtime member of The Church of Christ, and was a member of the Rebecca Lodge in New Market for many years.
Grace is survived by her children, Lillian Hutt of Clarinda, Judie King and husband Frank of Clarinda, Gayle Wagoner-Bolton and husband Rod of Tabor, and Paula Stanley and husband Bob of Glenwood; grandchildren, David Hutt of Clarinda, Kimberly Allen and husband Elvin of Bedford, Robyn Matheny of Omaha, Nebraska, Ben Matheny and significant other Tara of Omaha, Nebraska, Whitney Wilberding and husband Brent of Omaha, Nebraska, Scott Joseph Stanley of Cummings, Georgia, and Rachel Stanley of Glenwood; great-grandchildren, Breanna Brown of Maryville, Missouri, Ryleigh Matheny of Omaha, Nebraska; and one sister-in-law Wilma Mansfield of Ankeny; nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Paul; one son-in-law Lloyd Hutt; brothers and sisters, Josephine Mart, Walter Warrick, Clarrisa Farrens, Jennie Schenck, Herb Warrick, Calvin Warrick, Alice Neal, twins Harold and Harry Warrick, Edythe Caley, Vincent Warrick, Carroll Warrick, and Wilma Herold. Also by her parents in-law Bert and Clara Adams who were particularly special to her.
Grace was a kind, loving and devoted mother who always put family needs first. Her greatest joy was having all of her family around her. She loved serving her husband, children and grandchildren. When she was asked what she wanted for an upcoming birthday or Christmas present she would always say, “As long as I have my family I have everything.”
She welcomed anyone into her home to have a meal. She was a wonderful cook with several family favorites such as homemade chicken and noodles, grape dumplings, apple cobbler, her special raisin cake and cinnamon rolls.
Grace was also known far and wide for being an immaculate housekeeper who took great pride in keeping her home and family neat and tidy.
Her greatest legacy was her unconditional love for her family which was shown through her dedication and love.
Funeral services for Grace Adams age 93 of Clarinda were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday April 11, 2009 at the Church of Christ in New Market, Iowa. with Interment at Memory Cemetery, New Market, Iowa, Memorials are to the Church of Christ in New Market. Visitation was held 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday April 10, 2009 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home of Clarinda, Iowa. The Tradition of Walker-Merrick Funeral home has served the family.

 

Adams, Ronald Dean - Ronald Dean Adams was born October 19, 1941 in Maryville, Missouri, the son of Kenneth Dean and Enid C. (Gray) Adams. He passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at his home in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 66 years, 6 months and 14 days.

Ron grew up in the Coin area and was in the first graduating class of South Page High School in 1960. On September 3, 1961 he was united in marriage to Ronell McMillen at Blanchard, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children, Ron, Jr., Douglas and Lisa.

Ron moved all over the United States with his job as a computer programmer. For the last 19 years of his career, he was in Omaha as a senior systems analyst. He enjoyed flying small planes, electronics, HAM radio operation and auctioneering. But most of all, he loved his family.

He was preceded in death by his father; a son, Ron Adams, Jr.; and a sister, Karilyn.

Survivors include his wife, Ronell of Shenandoah, Iowa; his children, Douglas Scott Adams and his wife Lori of Blanchard, Iowa; Lisa Chari Stauffer and her husband Sheldon of Shenandoah, Iowa; grandchildren, Kenny, KateLyn, Krystin and Kyle Adams; Adam and Rachel Stauffer; his mother, Enid Adams of Clarinda, Iowa; a brother, Skip Adams of Braddyville, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends.


Adcock, Elmer C. - Elmer C. Adcock, the fourth of eleven children born to Joseph Lee and Minnie J. (Combs) Adcock was born January 2, 1906, in Tecumseh, Nebraska, and passed away April 8, 2004, in Shenandoah, Iowa, at the age of 98 years.
After living for a short time at Brock, Nebraska, the family moved to a Ranch in western Nebraska near Ainsworth, where Elmer received his education. As a young man in high school he would hire out to neighboring ranchers working for his board and room in order to have one less mouth to feed at home. With eight boys in the family it was told that they were for ever playing practical jokes on each other.
After high school, during the depression, Elmer would seek employment anywhere he could. From driving a team of horses, breaking horses for the railroad, building a road in Kansas, working in a bakery in Auburn, Nebraska, and as a cook on a river boat on the Missouri river, he would earn as much as 50 cents per day. Elmer would try just about anything.
On July 2, 1935, Elmer was united in marriage to Hilda Bohling in St. Joseph, Missouri, and to this union; Marvin, Nadine, Linda and Barbara were born. Elmer was a man with many skills. He worked as a tenant farmer in several locations in Southeast Nebraska and for a short time as a carpenter at the Mead Ammunition plant during World War II. After the war, Elmer returned to farming until 1948 when he decided to earn a living by driving a truck from coast to coast. He later worked as a school bus mechanic in Milford, Nebraska, where they lived for several years and then in Farragut, Iowa, where he retired. After retirement Elmer continued to be active doing various jobs in the area, including operating his own greenhouse and a small engine and lawn mower repair shop. Before his eyesight began to fail, Elmer built a grandfather clock for each of his children.
Elmer enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, hunting and driving a car. He would often play cards with his friends at Leisure Hall in Farragut. He was a former member of the I.O.O.F. and a member of Farragut United Methodist Church.
Preceding Elmer in death were his parents; brothers, Glen, Joe, Charles, Clarence, Bill, Ralph, Vernon, and Cecil; and sisters, Helen, Bernice, Lula and Dollie.
Survivors include Elmer’s wife, Hilda of Farragut; son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Jackie Adcock of Shenandoah; daughters and sons-in-law, Nadine and Phil Fahrlander of Minden, Nebraska, Linda and Michael Elze of Gainesville, Virginia and Barbara and Kevin Meier of Indianola, Iowa. Also surviving is a brother, Harold Adcock and wife, Millie, of Auburn, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren, Don and Dean Adcock, Eric and Jeff Fahrlander, Patrick and Timothy Elze and Mark, Nick, Jake and Haleigh Meier; and 8 great grandchildren; plus other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be directed to the Farragut Fire and Rescue.

A luncheon with the family will follow at Liesure Hall in Farragut, hosted by the Farragut Methodist Church Women, following interment services in Rose Hill Cemetery.


Ahrens, Edna Pauline Bertha Heiden - Edna Ahrens, 93, of Shenandoah, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 21, 2003, at her home in Shenandoah.

Edna Pauline Bertha Ahrens, the daughter of Chris and Lydia Heiden, was born March 21, 1910, in Hampton, Nebraska and passed away April 21, 2003, at her home in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Edna spent the early part of her life in the Hampton area where she attended school. She later married Milton Ahrens and to this union seven children, Elva, Donis, Twila, Bob, Rexine, Colene and Pamela were born. They lived in the Hampton area when they were first married then moved to Shenandoah in 1936, where they made their home and raised their children.

During Edna’s working years, she was employed by Earl May Seed and Nursery Company and the Weekly Times Newspaper. She was a devoted member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Shenandoah. Edna enjoyed playing cards, growing her beautiful garden, was known to be an excellent cook, but most of all, she enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren.

Preceding Edna in death were her parents; husband; daughter, Colene Malmberg; two grandchildren, Kelly Lynn Jones and Christopher Deatz; and three brothers, Erwin, Walter, and Lavern Heiden.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Karen Ahrens of Shenandoah; daughters and sons-in-law, Elva and Paul Bramble of Rockport, Missouri, Donis and Harlan White of Red Oak, Iowa, Twila and Leonard Hutchison of Shenandoah, Rexine and Jerry Burroughs of Farragut, Iowa, and Pamala and Frank Malzer of Nebraska City, Nebraska. Also surviving are sisters, Alice Burke of Omaha, Nebraska and Evelyn Grudzinski and husband, Marian, of Burlington, Colorado; brothers, Melvin Heiden of Hampton, Nebraska and Arnold Heiden and wife, Colene, of Bradshaw, Nebraska; 25 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren; plus many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A celebration of Edna's life was held 10:30 A.M. Thursday, April 24, 2003, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shenandoah with Reverend Steven Teske officiating. Carmine McLaren and Lois Rolf served at the Memory Register while Ella Mae Crawford and Karen Spears cared for the flowers. Linda Micheel played the organ and Dean and Kris Adkins sang "Precious Lord Take My Hand" and "If You Could See Me Now." Ushers were Tim Krein and Bruce Micheel while casket bearers were Milton Bramble, Alan and Brad Hutchison, Jeff Malmberg, MIke Sinner and Mike White. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. The Selby Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Aker, Wava Snowdall - Wava S. Aker, daughter of Joseph and Ethel Maude (Gordon) Snowdall, was born on July 6, 1910, at rural Unionville, Missouri. She passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2008, at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa, at the age of 97.

One of 12 children (7 brothers, 4 sisters), Wava’s early life was spent growing up in the rural Randolph, Iowa area. The family later moved near Essex, Iowa where Wava attended country school at Tarkio Center School. She attended high school in Shenandoah where she graduated with the Shenandoah High School Class of 1928. Following high school Wava attended McGregor School of Hairdressing and Cosmetology in Kansas City, Missouri. She worked at D. W. Newcomer Funeral Home as a Lady Attendant and later at Monorah Hospital while in Kansas City. On August 19, 1953, Wava was united in marriage to Martin J. Aker in Kansas City. In 1954, they moved to Denver, Colorado, where she worked for Moore Mortuary, Scott’s Surgical Co. as a bookkeeper and receptionist and at St. Anthony’s Hospital (there when JFK was shot) and McConaty Mortuary each for five years. She last worked as an in-home aid for Mary Delehant. In 1980, her husband Martin passed away and Wava moved back to Shenandoah. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shenandoah and was active in the Guild.

Preceding her in death were her parents and husband, Martin Aker. Survivors include her son, Roger Snowdall of Raytown, MO; two grandchildren, Alan Snowdall of Kansas City, MO and Lisa Long and her husband Don of Independence, MO; four great grandchildren; friend of over 20 years, Karen Haigwood of Shenandoah, IA; other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Elmwood Cemetery in Coin, Iowa. Words of comfort were given by Father Vern Smith. Casket bearers were Roger Snowdall, Rick Haigwood, Tim Haigwood and Vaughn Livingston. Memorials in Wava's name are being directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church or to the Garden View Care Center Activities Fund. Everyone is invited to attend a Memorial Mass in honor of Wava on Saturday, April 26, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Services were entrusted to the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home of Shenandoah.


Akers, Sheila Ann Manrose - Sheila Ann Akers, the daughter of Charles Grover and Juanita (Baucom) Manrose was born on December 9, 1949 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She passed away suddenly on Sunday evening, December 24, 2006 at the Shenandoah Medical Center.
After graduating from Shenandoah High School, Sheila married Richard Akers on May 31, 1968 in Shenandoah. Sheila worked for Eaton Corporation for 26 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah. She enjoyed antiques, but most of all she loved her five dogs, two cats and all of her birds.
Preceding Sheila in death was her father, Charles Manrose in 1999. Survivors include her husband, Richard Akers of Shenandoah, Iowa; two sons, Michael Todd Akers and his wife Angie of Shenandoah, Iowa, Timothy Patrick Akers and his wife Kelly of Shenandoah, Iowa; five grandchildren, Ashley, Niki, Kali and Triston Akers and Ashley Smith; great grandchildren, Emma and A.J.; her mother, Juanita Manrose of Shenandoah, Iowa; two brothers, Ron Manrose and his wife Cindy of Shenandoah, Iowa, John Manrose and his wife Peggy of Schoolcraft, Michigan; two aunts, Thelma Clausen and Anne Baucom; along with other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service was held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Selby-Kirsch Funeral Chapel in Shenandoah with burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Shenandoah. Alba, Leona Maxine Raines - Private funeral services for Leona M. Alba, 72, of Villisca, IA, took place Friday, March 27, 2009, at the Wolfe Funeral Home. Mrs. Alba passed away at her home on March 24th.
Leona Maxine (Raines) Alba was born in Valley Township of Page County Iowa on May 5, 1936 the daughter of Thomas and Edna Mattly Raines. She grew up in the rural Hepburn area where she attended rural schools and later Villisca high school. After her formal schooling she moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she worked as a domestic for various families. She, also, was employed as a nurse’s aide at St. Joseph’s hospital, a bread baker for Safeway grocery stores, and a maintenance worker for Continental Trailways bus line. When the family moved back to the Villisca area she worked at the Good Samaritan Center until ill health caused her to retire.
She enjoyed her family. She was fond of cooking and baking and especially enjoyed collecting and trying new recipes.
Surviving are two daughters: Valeria and husband Charles Newburn of Omaha, Nebraska; and Alice and husband Don Clark of Villisca; three grandchildren: Jack Campbell of Villisca, Rachelle Campbell of Clarinda, and Frank Alba, III, and wife Maria of Omaha, Nebraska; and grandchildren, Griffen Campbell, Emily Campbell, Samantha Peppa, Brandon Campbell, Sabrina Peppa, Angel Alba, Shawn Newburn, and Ashley Newburn. Also,survived by three sisters: Virginia and husband Bud Reaimen of Pendleton, Oregon; Marlis and husband Phillip Currin of Villisca; Linda and husband Gordon Currin of Villisca; one brother Marvin and wife Arlene Raines of Hepburn; nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Edna and Thomas Raines; her husband Frank Alba, Sr.; one son Frank Alba, Jr.; three sisters: Betty Arfman, Juanita Dunlap, and Darlene Poteet; and one brother Rex Raines; and one half brother George and wife Martha Raines.

Allbaugh, George L. - George L. Allbaugh was born May 7, 1928, to Walter Allen and Martha Jane (Leonard) Allbaugh at Creston, Iowa. He passed away Friday, September 29, 2000 at Clarinda Regional Health Center following a lengthy illness.

George graduated Creston High School. He entered the military serving in the U.S. Navy from November 16, 1945 until being honorably discharged from service February 20, 1950. While he was in the U.S. Navy he married Violet Oziah at Shannon City, Iowa on July 18, 1948.

Most of George's working career was spent at Lisle Corporation in Clarinda. He worked at Lisle Corporation for 33 years retiring as a Foreman. During his time in Clarinda he served the community by volunteering on the Clarinda Fire Department from 1967 to 1980. He was Assistant Chief for two years and Fire Chief for three years. He also served on the ambulance service. Surviving are his wife, Violet of Clarinda children Sandy Williams and her husband Ivan of Clarinda, Iowa, Bob Allbaugh and his wife Cathy of Bettendorf, Iowa, Steven Allbaugh and his wife Janet of Harrisonville, Missouri, and Mike Allbaugh and his wife Annette of Clarinda, Iowa sister, Thelma Paulus and her husband Gordon of Creston, Iowa half-brother Aldon Allbaugh and his wife Edith of Des Moines, Iowa grandchildren Jim and Billie Williams and Tonia Hoyt and her husband Rusty, Judd, Nicole, Devin and Chelsea Allbaugh, Megan Allbaugh, Michael Allbaugh and Seth Allbaugh and his wife Bobbie great grandchildren Nichole Hoyt and Dawson Allbaugh and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, five sisters, four brothers, and great grandson Justice Williams.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 2, at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel, Clarinda, with military services and burial at the Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Clarinda Fire Department. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel of Clarinda was in charge.

 

Allen, Alva - Alva Allen, age 84, of Clarinda, Iowa, died Thursday, January 1, 2004, at Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa. Graveside services were 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 5, 2004 at Maple Hill Cemetery, College Springs, Iowa, with Rev. Nathan Little officiating. Visitation with the family was 12:30 p.m. until service time, Monday, January 5, 2004 at Walker-Merrick. Burial was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, College Springs, Iowa with military rites by American Legion Post 98 and V.F.W. Post 9230. A memorial will be established. Walker-Merrick was in charge of arrangements.

Alva L. Allen was born February 23, 1919, at Ridgeway, Missouri, to Daniel Walter Allen and Minnie Catherine (Ely) Allen.

He served in the United States Army during World War II. Alva was united in marriage at Maryville, Missouri, May 7, 1976, to Ruby Richardson. He was a self employed machinist and had worked at Lisle Corporation for many years.

Alva was preceded in death by his parents daughter, Geraldine Allen son, George Frank Allen sisters, Vivi, Verda, Helen, Mildred, Else and brother, Archie Allen.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby of the home son, Dan Allen and wife Kim of Kansas City, Missouri son, Carl Allen and wife Peggy Sue of Des Moines, Iowa son, Larry Allen and wife Sandy of Des Moines, Iowa daughter, Cheryl Byrd and husband Billy of Des Moines daughter, Sharon Manchester and husband Andy of Farragut, Iowa daughter, Barb Clark and husband Tim of Henderson, Nevada son, Alva Allen, Jr. and wife Melissa of Kansas City, Missouri son, Eric Allen of Clarinda, Iowa step children: Earl Wilson and wife Teresa of Eudora, Kansas, Diane Wilson of Clarinda, Iowa, William Ferlin Wilson and wife Cheryl of Memphis, Arkansas, Frances Wilson of Olathe, Kansas, Sherry Sue Wilson of Payola, Kansas, Rocky Wilson of Payola, Kansas several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

Allen, Gordon - Gordon Allen was born March 23, 1923 in Providence, Rhode Island. He passed away on Monday evening, February 25, 2008 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Gordon grew up Rhode Island and graduated from Cranston, Rhode Island High School. Following high school he served his country during WW II. He lived most of his adult life in the Shenandoah area. He was a supervisor at Lisle Corporation until his retirement. Gordon enjoyed going to the casino. He also enjoyed his morning coffee group at Burger King. He was also a very talented wood crafter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Hazel; and one son, Danny. Survivors include his daughter, Debbie Barritt and her husband Rick of Sherman, Texas; granddaughter, Danielle Barritt of Sherman, Texas; a sister, Ivy Outote of Rhode Island; along with other relatives and friends.


Allen, Marguerite Wilma Ripley - Marguerite Wilma Allen, 98, of Beloit, Wisconsin, died Monday, May 26, 2003 in her home. Marguerite was born in Farragut, Iowa on April 17, 1905 to Bernice and Eugene Ripley who were farmers. She was oldest of six siblings and is survived by Lucy Mendenhall of Elmwood, Nebraska, June Vanfosson of Clarinda, Iowa, and Warren Ripley of Beloit, Wisconsin.

Marguerite was preceded in death by siblings Bertha Lymer of Filmore, Missouri and Kenneth Ripley of College Springs, Iowa.

She attended Shenandoah High School and Southwestern IA College. She taught in a one-room school until she married.

Marguerite married Truman G. Allen on December 24, 1924. They operated a family farm until they lost it in the Depression, then they moved to Beloit. Truman worked at Fairbanks Morse until he started his own silo repair business in 1949. He died in 1960. They had four children: Joyce J. Davis and husband James (deceased) from Cincinnati, Ohio, William D. Allen and wife Rose of Marion, Wisconsin, Robert E. Allen and wife Pat of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Carol M. Allen of Beloit, Wisconsin. In addition to her four children, she had 11 grandchildren, 19 grand children, and three great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that loved her.

Marguerite was extremely active in Beloit Community life. She participated in the First Methodist Church groups (U.M.W., XYZ, and Leah Circle), was a communion steward, and was in charge of the craft room (quilting and rag rug making for community projects). She had a great zest for life and was a natural teacher. She spent her lifetime teaching others. Marguerite bought all of her daughters, daughters-in-law and all of her granddaughters sewing machines and taught them to sew. She also taught them chair caning, rug braiding, upholstering, and furniture refinishing. She was an active member of RSVP and participated in folk fairs for 20 years.

 

Allen, Philip Leland - Philip Allen, age 77, of Clarinda, Iowa formerly of the Climax area passed away Friday, August 30, 2002 at his residence in Clarinda, Iowa.

Philip Leland Allen was born May 27, 1925 in rural Montgomery County, Iowa the son of Arthur and Vera (Clawson) Allen. He was raised in Montgomery County and graduated from the Red Oak High School. Philip served his country during WWII in the Navy. After returning from the service he attended Iowa State College where he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. He moved to Alaska for a couple of years before moving to Shreveport, Louisiana where he worked for the Kansas City Southern Railroad until his retirement. He moved to Madison, Alabama until his return to Clarinda, Iowa where he was currently making his home.

Philip was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother: James Arthur. Survivors include his brother: Clinton Allen and his wife Carolyn of Red Oak, Iowa two sisters: Carol Jones and her husband Gordon of Shenandoah, Iowa and Mary Donohue and her husband Wayne of Stanton, Iowa eleven nieces and nephews many great nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside committal services were held at the Walnut Cemetery at 2 PM on Saturday, August 31, 2002. Memorial services were held at 2 PM Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

 

Allen, Robert Elvin - Robert Elvin Allen, age 66, was born on January 12, 1934, at Braddyville, Iowa, to Floyd and Neva Hiles Allen. He died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, January 15, 2000 at Clarinda Regional Health Center. On August 15, 1953 he was married to Millie Hudson.

Mr. Allen had worked for Page County and had recently retired from Eaton Corporation. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He loved horses, dogs and sweets.

Survivors include his wife Millie of the home children Debra Ann Jackson and husband Todd of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Mary Jane Elmore and husband Dean of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Cory Elvin Allen of Bedford, Iowa three grandchildren, two great grandchildren brothers Merlin Allen and wife Opal of Cameron, Missouri and Donnis Allen of Pickering, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Buddy Dean Allen. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 19, 2000 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda with Rev. Loren Daly of the Siam Church of Christ officiating. Burial was in the Braddyville Cemetery. Memorials were suggested to a fund in Elvin's name. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel of Clarinda, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.

 

Allumbaugh, Ann Schmierbach Cheney - Ann (Schmierbach) Cheney-Allumbaugh, daughter of Henry and Martha (Fuhrman) Schmierbach, was born on April 29, 1914, in Ortonville, Minnesota. She passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2007, in Willmar, Minnesota at the age of 92.
Growing up, Ann was raised in the Clinton, Minnesota and Ortonville area, where she received her education. In 1939, Ann was united in marriage to Roy Cheney at Imogene, Iowa. To this union one son Dale was born on October 7, 1940. They farmed in the Hastings and Red Oak area until Roy’s death in 1961. In November of 1965, Ann was married to Don Allumbaugh until his death in 1986. She worked at the Shenandoah Nurseries and Earl May Seed until her retirement. Ann enjoyed traveling the United States and camping.
Preceding Ann in death were her parents; twin sister, Minnie Schmierbach; brother Fritz Schmierbach; and her two husbands, Roy Cheney and Don Allumbaugh. Survivors include her son, Dale Cheney and his wife Shirley of Manassas, VA; step-son, Mike Allumbaugh and his wife Janet of Shenandoah, IA; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; step-granddaughter; three step-great grandchildren; brother, Herman Schmierbach of Ortonville, MN; sister-in-law, Hellyn Schmierbach of Cokato, MN; niece and nephew, Deb and Terry Mueller of Minnesota; other relatives; and a host of friends.
Graveside services were held on Monday, January 15, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. The Rev. Allan Bash gave the words of comfort. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Altizer, Curtis Lee - Curtis Lee Altizer, the son of Ralph M. and Belva L. (Winebarger) Altizer, was born October 18, 1946, in Bishop, Virginia, and passed away December 3, 2003, at his home in Shenandoah, Iowa. he was 57 years old.
As a young boy, Curt lived in Bishop until he was 9 years old. He moved with his family to Tazewell, Virginia, where he graduated from high school in 1964. He attended four years at Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland, and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served his country for four years including a tour of duty in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart.
On June 23, 1973, Curt was united in marriage to Susan Swigart at the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah. To this union, Tricia and Todd were born.
Curt and his brothers had formerly operated the Altizer Construction Company in Virginia. Later he operated the Altizer Construction Company in the Shenandoah area. For a few years, Curt was associated with Job Service for the State of Iowa. He was also employed by Eaton Manufacturing Company in Shenandoah for many years.
Being an avid outdoorsman as well as a carpenter, Curt enjoyed hunting and working on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, where he put in countless hours helping to develop the trail, especially in decking the bridges. He enjoyed riding his bicycle on the Trace and participated in several RAGBRI rides across Iowa. Curt often spent hours cutting wood for the fireplace at home. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan. He also enjoyed spending time in their yard and garden. Curt was a history buff with a great interest in the Civil War and researched their family history. He was a member of American Legion Post #88, a board member of Wabash Trace Nature Trail, a participant in the Southwest Iowa Theatre Group and appeared in Dear Iowa and To Kill a Mockingbird.
Preceding Curt in death were his father, Ralph Altizer; brother, Wayne Altizer; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Vernon and Ruth Swigart; and brother-in-law, Bill Combs.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Altizer of Shenandoah; daughter, Tricia Altizer of Maryville, Missouri; son, Todd Altizer of the home; and mother,Belva Bowman of Cincinnati, Ohio. Also surviving are his sisters, Peggy Combs of Cincinnati and Marie Mahn and her husband, Jack, of Orlando, Florida; brother, Tom Altizer and his wife, Charlotte, of Manassas, Virginia; brother-in-law, Gary Swigart and his wife, Claudia, of Sidney, Iowa; plus many other relatives and friends.
