Martindale, Lola Gertrude Cheese, 93, Maryville, Missouri (formerly of Clarinda, Iowa) died March 24, 2006 at Village Care Center Maryville.

She was born June 26, 1912 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Harry and Florence (Rupf) Cheese.
A 1930 graduate of Lenox High School, Lenox, Iowa, Mrs. Martindale received an R.N. degree from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Des Moines, Iowa.

She married James Dale Martindale February 9, 1936 in Lenox, Iowa. Lola was a nurse at the State Hospital in Clarinda for 35 years and taught classes for other nurses there.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Dale (December 3, 1987); her parents; sister: Marion Shaw and brothers: Ray and Hal Cheese.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Kay and Roland Barmann, Maryville; 3 grandchildren: Tony and Avie Barmann, Scott City, Kansas; Susan and Mike Hartman, Coralville, Iowa; Nick and Cherlyn Barmann, Maryville; 6 great-grandchildren: Ryan and Kent Barmann, Dana and Matthew Hartman, Dexter and Austin Barmann.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 AM Monday, March 27, 2006 at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, Maryville, Missouri. Visitation is 6-7 p.m. Sunday, March 26th at Price Funeral Home with a Wake Service at 7 p.m.

Legion of Mary Rosary will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2006 at Price Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. Gregory's School in Mrs. Martindale's name.

McClarnon, Faye A. Stewart, age 91, of Clarinda, Iowa, died Saturday, September 24, 2005, at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa, with Bettie Hull officiating. There will be open visitation at the funeral home. Burial will be in Shearer Cemetery, Braddyville, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Shearer Cemetery. Faye A. McClarnon was born January 17, 1914, at Siam, Iowa, to Ed Stewart Ara (Wilson) Stewart. Faye was united in marriage September 8, 1938 at Clarinda, Iowa to Bruce H. McClarnon. He preceded her in death May 12, 1985. They farmed in the Braddyville area. Faye had lived at Clarehaven in Clarinda since 1996 and was at Goldenrod since August 11, 2005. She enjoyed sewing, cooking for her family and others, and gardening and she especially enjoyed the family dinners.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bruce; two grandsons, David Kyle McClarnon and Matthew Kraig McClarnon; brother, Harry Stewart; sisters, Mary Woldruff, Grace Johnson, Ruth Bebout, Vesta Woldruff and Lula Stewart.

Survivors include her daughter, Eleanor Moore and husband Max of Clarinda, Iowa; daughter, Elaine Henneman and husband Carl of Independence, Missouri; daughter, Mary Ann McClarnon of Gladstone, Missouri; son, Howard McClarnon and wife Jan of Braddyville, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and four great, great grandchildren.

 

McClarnon, Mary Ann, 62, of Gladstone, Missouri, formerly of Braddyville, Iowa died Thursday, November 17, 2005, at her home in Gladstone. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 21, 2005 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Rev. James Crapson officiating. Visitation with the family will be 11:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Shearer Cemetery, Braddyville, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to Shearer Cemetery. Mary Ann McClarmon, was born February 5, 1943, at Maryville, Missouri to Bruce McClarnon and Faye (Stewart) McClarnon. She was a graduate of South Page High School, College Springs, Iowa and Kansas City Business College. Mary Ann retired from Kansas City Power & Light Company after thirty eight of employment. Her most recent position was technical professional of the regulatory affairs department. She enjoyed researching genealogy, flower gardening and doing puzzles.

Preceding Mary Ann in death were her parents. Survivors include her daughter, Sally Leathers and her husband Rick Polhamus, Jr. of Louisburg, Kansas; granddaughter, Kate Leathers; stepchildren: Rick Wooldridge, Cyndy Sterud, Paul Retterath; step grandchildren: Kassie Retterath, Kayla Retterath, Amanda Sterud, Bobby Sterud, Alicia Wooldridge, Jeffrey Wooldridge; sisters, Eleanor Moore and husband Max of Clarinda, Iowa, Elaine Henneman and husband Carl of Independence, Missouri; brother, Howard McClarnon and wife Jan of Braddyville, Iowa.

 

McCue, Patricia Eilene - Graveside services for Patricia Eilene McCue 57, of Villisca, IA will be held Thursday, November 10, 2005, at the Morton Mills Cemetery, Morton Mills, IA.

Patty died Monday November 7, 2005, at the Red Oak Rehab and Care Center in Red Oak, IA. She had been a resident of the Care Center since July 20, 2000.

Patty was born April 29, 1948, in Clarinda, IA the daughter of Harold and Edith (Reitz) McCue.

She is survived by her mother Edith McCue of Villisca, IA, brother; Daniel McCue and friend Kim and sister Ellen Hendrickson all of Villisca. Plus Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Harold, sister Laura Irene McCue, grandparents Henry and Delpha McCue and John and Hazel Reitz.

McCutcheon, Mark Lee, was born September 5, 1971 in Columbia, South Carolina to Michael M. and LeAnn (Huntington) McAlpin. He entered into rest Thursday night, September 1, 2005, in Chandler, Arizona.

Mark was a graduate of Bethel Christian Academy, Norfolk, Nebraska. He attended Gateway Community College, Madison, Wisconsin. Mark proudly served in the US Air Force as a Firefighter III from July 1990 to April 1993.
Mark was deployed to Saudi Arabia in January 1991 in support of Operation Desert Storm for six months. Mark considered serving in the Air Force a very important honor in his life.

He has worked mainly in law enforcement at the Arizona Department of Corrections from April 10, 1985 to September 1, 2005. Mark was employed as a Sergeant while at the Department of Correction's facility and had recently passed the test and was qualified to become a Lieutenant. Mark was proud of the work he was doing at the Correctional Facility. Mark was an outstanding father to his son, Ethan Michael Spencer McCutcheon.

A favorite for Ethan and Mark was to go to the park and play ball. Ethan is three years old and he recognizes the baseball team names by their logos. Mark always made Ethan a priority in his life. He delighted in rough housing with Ethan. Family and friends were so important to Mark! He delighted in cooking special meals and entertaining his friends and family. Mark was a very caring, loving person.

He is survived by his son, Ethan Michael Spencer McCutcheon; Amy Soles, the mother of Ethan; his parents Michael and Leann McCutcheon; his sisters, Rebecca Gentry and husband Marcus and their three children; his brother Stephen McCutcheon; and his sister, Rachel McCutcheon. Mark received Jesus Christ into his life as a boy. He always chose "Love Lifted Me" as his favorite song at church. He was baptized by his father when he was ten years old in the Norfolk Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Norfolk, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Merle and Margaret McCutcheon and his grandfather, Gerald McAlpin. Mark was the first born of twenty-three grandchildren in the McAlpin family. He was the first born of six grandchildren in the McCutcheon family.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 10, 2005 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel with burial at Maple Hill Cemetery, College Springs. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel of Clarinda was in charge of arrangements.

 

McDonald, William "Bill" Paul, age 76, of  Clarinda, formerly of New Market, died Monday,
January 23, 2006, at the Clarinda Regional Health Center. Memorial services will be held Saturday,
January 28, 2006, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda with Pastor Bob Thompson
officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in College Springs, Iowa. Memorials
may be directed to the New Life Missionary Church or the American Cancer Society. Walker-
Merrick Funeral Home of Clarinda is in charge of arrangements.

Bill was born September 3, 1929 in College Springs, Iowa, the son of William Henry
McDonald and Nelle Dean Wubker. He graduated from New Market High School. On March 29,
1953, Bill was united in marriage to Jean Golding in New Market, Iowa. He was a lifelong farmer in
the New Market area. Bill attended the New Life Missionary Church in Bedford and was a member
of the New Market American Legion. An important part of his life was reading the word.
Among his interests outside of work were gardening, with popcorn and potatoes as his
favorite crops. He also enjoyed doing word search puzzles and solitaire.

Preceding Bill in death were his parents, a daughter Paula Cabeen, sisters Helen Potter and
Martha Thomas. He is survived by his wife Jean McDonald of Clarinda, daughter Vicki Campbell
and husband Larry of Clarinda, daughter Patricia Schmidt and husband Chris of the Netherlands,
and a son Kenneth McDonald of Kansas City, Missouri; four grandchildren, two
step-grandchildren, and seven step-greatgrandchildren; a sister Ruth Hunter of
Clarinda, and a brother Robert McDonald and wife Lois of Mesa, Arizona.

 

 

 

McElhiney, Jean Bernice Yearous, age 83, of Yorktown, Iowa, died Saturday, September 10, 2005, at the Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 13, 2005, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Rev. Walden Paige officiating. Visitation with the family will be 7-8 p.m., Monday, September 12, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Summit Cemetery, rural Yorktown, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to World War II Veterans Memorial. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.    
                
Jean Bernice McElhiney was born July 8, 1922, on the family farm rural Yorktown, Iowa, to Nathan "Ted" Yearous and Hallean (Ellis) Yearous. Jean was a graduate of Yorktown High School and attended a business college in Denver, Colorado. On March 24, 1945, she was united in marriage to Marvin "Mac" McElhiney at New Orleans, Louisiana. While growing up in Yorktown, Jean enjoyed playing softball and basketball. Jean had many activities and interests. She was a Camp Fire Girls leader, Yorktown City Council member, and also was chairman of the Yorktown Centennial in 1985. She enjoyed researching local history, bowling, doing crossword puzzles, watching the Clarinda High School Band perform, reading, movies, music and soap operas. Jean enjoyed life and was quite a prankster.

Preceding Jean in death were her parents and husband.

Survivors include her daughters, Maureen Smith of Rogers, Arkansas; Aileen Olenius and husband Vic of Victoria, Texas; grandchildren, Tanya Jones of Rogers, Arkansas, Terry Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lance Olenius and wife Kristi of Houston, Texas, Layna Olenius of Houston, Texas; great grandchildren, Lynzey Jones, Ashley Jones, Brooke Olenius; sister, Evelyn Larson and husband Glenn of Denver, Colorado; sister, Laura Cazee and husband Clarence of Tombstone, Arizona; sister-in-law, Nina Potts of Hopkins, Missouri; sister-in-law, Helen Mendenhall of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

 

McGhghy, Phillip Lee, "Bob Grayson" 60, of East Peoria, died at 8:50 AM, on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at his residence.

He was born on August 17, 1945 in Iowa Falls, Iowa to George Raymond and Delores June Newberry McGhghy. He married Karen Kafka on October 8, 1966 in Omaha, NE; She survives.

Also surviving is 1 brother, Seth McGhghy of Springfield, MO and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers Jerry and Paul.

He worked for more than 30 years in the Country Music Radio Industry under the name "Bob Grayson". In 1998, he came to Peoria, working for WXCL and for WFYR as operations manager, program director and also a morning show host. Noted for his civic mindedness, Bob was constantly beckoned to head up charitable events to support handicapped and autistic children. In 1972, he co-hosted the first "St. Jude Radiothon" at WPLO, Atlanta, GA. In 2000, he was inducted into the Country Music Disc Jockey Hall of Fame. In 2001, he went to ICC Truck Driver School, and was a truck driver until November 2002.

An avid lover of golf, in 1989 Bob hit a three iron 187 yards and dropped his first hole-in-one. He volunteered at Weaver Ridge Golf Club and was a member of the Quail Meadows Monday Senior Golfers in East Peoria.

A funeral service will be held at 7pm Friday, November 11, 2005 at Deiters Funeral Home 444 E. Washington St. in East Peoria. Father Ken Marchulones will officiate. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to services (5:00 pm - 7:00 pm) on Friday at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.

McKee, Florence Anita Willsie, went to be with her Lord on April 20, 2005. She was born January 3, 1911 to Benjamin Franklin Willsie and Minnie Apple at Shambaugh, Iowa. She graduated from Clarinda, Iowa high school in 1928. She attended Maryville State Teachers College in Maryville, MO and taught school for a number of years at Braddyville, Iowa; Des Moines, Iowa and Andover, Kansas. During this time she attended Wichita State University and attained her degree in teaching and went on to teach elementary children at Irving grade school in Wichita, Kansas where she later retired. She taught many children how to read. She married Charles Leroy McKee on July 7, 1934. He predeceased her in death as well as her oldest son, Dr. Weldon L. McKee of Roseville, CA and two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her son and his wife Richard W. & Marilyn McKee of Wichita, Kansas, daughter-in-law, Carol McKee of Roseville, CA and 7 grandchildren; David McKee, Mark McKee, Charles McKee, Christopher McKee, Julia McKee, Karen Beck, and Mary Carmichael. She also has 9 great grand children and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was a member of the Silver Link Class at College Hill United Methodist Church for over 65 years. Memorials may be sent to the College Hill United Methodist Church at 2930 E. First Street, Wichita, Kansas 67214. Visitation will be at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda, Iowa 7-8 p.m., Monday evening April 25. There will be a luncheon at the Shambaugh United Methodist Church following the interment at the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa. McKinnon, Donald Duncan


Funeral for Donald Duncan McKinnon, 71, of Moulton, Alabama, was Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Moulton Baptist Church with Dr. Darryl Wood and the Rev. Neil Carter officiating and the Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Old Town Creek Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday, September 6, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. McKinnon died Monday, September 5, 2005 at Lawrence Medical Center. He was born February 14, 1934 in Clarinda, Iowa to Donald Mitchell McKinnon and Leah Fern Duncan McKinnon. He was a retired construction worker and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Korean War.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers, Max, Lee and Bob.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Ruth McKinnon, two daughters, Leah Kiker and husband Jimmy and Melanie Sparks and husband Tony, all of Moulton; four grandchildren, Lucas Kiker, Timothy Kiker, Amber Lynn Sparks and Adrian Dawn Sparks; two brothers, Marvin McKinnon of Clarinda, Iowa, and Lynn McKinnon of Omaha, Nebraska; and three sisters, Marilyn Wills and Leona Clark of Clarinda, Iowa and Diana Malmberg of Shenandoah. Pallbearers will be friends.

 

McPherron, Joseph Fielden "Fid" was born September 2, 1914 at Balfour, IA to Raymond Ernest and Lillian Pearl (Hammond) McPherron. He passed away Tuesday morning, January 31, 2006 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital at the age of 91.

Fid was born on a farm near Balfour and during high school he began his agricultural career by helping his dad farm during the Depression. Following this work on the farm he went to California. His future wife, Neta Elizabeth Hill, joined him in California where on Feb 1, 1936 they were married at El Monte, CA.

He became a comptometer operator for the Sunshine Biscuits Co in California. The couple moved back to Iowa to farm north of Shambaugh and then on a farm near Braddyville, IA which they rented from Ron Hill. Ron Hill saw the farm prosper and asked Fid to join him in the R.C. Hill Farm Management Company. With this new job the family moved to Omaha in 1948 only to return to Clarinda in 1951 because most of Fid's farm management territory was in the Southwest Iowa area.

In 1955 Fid became manager of the Mental Health Institute's farming operations until the state closed the farming segment of the institute. He was then offered a job by the Superintendent as "Psychotherapist" where he served as counselor on the alcohol ward. Fid retired from the M.H.I. in 1973 and enjoyed his many years of retirement by attending to his farm management, numerous rental homes and keeping in touch with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Neta, of Clarinda; children Jacqueline Larson and husband Don of Beloit, KS, and Gary McPherron and wife Jean of Tijuana, Mexico; grandchildren: Kimberly (Larson) Cooper and husband David of Salina, KS, Gregory Larson and wife Gwen of Emporia, KS, Jill (Larson) Porubovic and husband David of Centerville, VA, Shelly (McPherron) Mitchell and husband Joseph of Fresno, CA, and Traci (McPherron) DeLeon of San Diego, CA; 8 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters; and his sister, Nellie (McPherron) Runyon of Surprise, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Harry, Kenneth, Newt, and Leonard; and his sister, Delores (McPherron) Bittner.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 2, 2006 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda with Rev. Walden Paige officiating. Burial was at Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Nodaway Valley Historical Museum in Clarinda or Port Library in Beloit, Kansas. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

 

McPherron, Neta Elizabeth Hill, age 97, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Red Oak, Iowa. Neta was born to Lafe and Gertrude Hill on February 20, 1909 in Sturgis, Kentucky.

She grew up around Marion, Kentucky. To find work she came to the State Hospital in Glenwood, eventually bringing with her other Kentuckians to work there. During her time of working in Glenwood Neta met J. F. "Fid" McPherron. Fid then went to California and Neta joined him there and married him February 1, 1936 in El Monte, California. They were just one day from celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary in 2006 when Fid passed away.

The couple moved back to Iowa to a farm north of Shambaugh and then to a farm near Braddyville, IA which they rented from Ron Hill. Ron asked Fid and family to join him in Omaha at a new job. The family moved to Omaha in 1948 only to return to Clarinda in 1951 because most of Fid's farm management territory was in the Southwest Iowa area. Born to Fid and Neta were two children, Jackie and Gary.

Neta was a clerk at Grahams Department Store in Clarinda more than 20 years until retiring when the store burned down. She enjoyed her role as a housewife, especially cooking and canning. Both she and Fid enjoyed traveling and attending their grandchildren's activities and events. Neta was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fid, and all of her brothers and sisters.


Neta is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Jackie and Don Larson of Beloit, Kansas and son and daughter-in-law Gary and Jean McPherron of Rosarito, Mexico; sister-in-law Nellie Runyon of Surprise, Arizona; 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 9, 2006 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel, Clarinda, with Rev. Waldon Paige officiating. Interment was at Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Clarinda First United Methodist Church sound system or the Red Oak Good Samaritan Care Center.

Meier, Rudolf John Henry, age 88, of Clarinda, Iowa, died Friday, September 9, 2005, at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska.         
                
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 13, 2005, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor Nathan Dudley and Pastor Jerry Wagoner officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 7-8 p.m., Monday, September 12, 2005 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery, rural Yorktown, Iowa. Rudolf John Henry Meier was born April 17, 1917, in Nodaway Township, Page County, Iowa to William Meier and Rosa (Herzberg) Meier. He was baptized April 23, 1917 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Yorktown, Iowa by Pastor W. J. Horn. Rudolf was confirmed March 29, 1931 by Pastor O. Bahr. He attended the St. Paul Lutheran School, Yorktown, Iowa. On February 9, 1939, he was united in marriage to Bernice Wagoner at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Clarinda, Iowa. Rudolf was a life long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and held various offices through the years. He was a life long farmer and his farm was recognized as a Century Farm. Rudolf thoroughly enjoyed farming and raising livestock. Rudolf also enjoyed being a member of the Plainsmen choral group. He had been a Nodaway Township Trustee for many years and was instrumental in getting a rural fire truck.

Preceding Rudolf in death were his parents; wife, Bernice; infant brother; sister, Alma Sunderman; and brother Arnold Meier.

Survivors include his sons, Elwood Meier and wife Marilyn of Pierce, Nebraska and their children and grandchildren, John Meier and wife Michelle of Jacksonville, Arkansas, and Katrina, Abigail, and Alexander; Jay Meier and wife Larell of Pierce, Nebraska and Jakob, Garret, and Larissa; Jeffrey Meier and wife Jennifer of Pierce, Nebraska, and Carter.
Curtis Meier and wife Brenda of Clarinda, Iowa and their children and grandchildren, Michael Meier and wife Angela of Clarinda, Iowa and Alyson; Leah Coston and husband Kevin of Clarinda, Iowa and Blaine and Brevin.

Also surviving are sister, Ester Smiley of Clarinda, Iowa; brother, Lorenz Meier of Coin, Iowa; sister-in-law, Faith Wagoner of Clarinda, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Merrick, Carlos Reed, age 96, of Red Oak, Iowa, died Friday, July 15, 2005, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 18, 2005,at the First Christian Church, Red Oak, Iowa with Rev. JoAnn Thomas officiating.

Visitation with the family was 7-8 p.m., Sunday, July 17, 2005 at the First Christian Church, Red Oak, Iowa.

Burial was in the Waveland Cemetery, Elliott, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church, Red Oak, Iowa. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Carlos Reed Merrick was born January 4, 1909, near Elliott, Iowa to Fred Merrick and Mary Mae (Collins) Merrick.

He was a 1928 graduate of Elliott High School.

Carlos was united in marriage March 4, 1933 to Imogene Helen McCoslin at Omaha, Nebraska. They lived in Menlo Park, California for 58 years where Carlos was an export clerk for Patrick and Company of San Francisco, California. Following retirement he returned to Red Oak, Iowa. Carlos was a member of the First Christian Church, Red Oak, Iowa.

He was also a member of the Toastmasters Club and the Red Oak Optimist Club.He maintained a keen interest in horses throughout his life and always enjoyed his yearly visits to Iowa.

Survivors include his wife Imogene Merrick of Good Samaritan Care Center, Red Oak, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

 

Meskimen, Gregory Lee, 50, of Olive Branch, Miss., died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at his home. He was born Jan. 13, 1956, in Clarinda to Leland and Yvonne Meskimen. He attended schools in Clarinda and Batesville, Ark., graduating from Batesville High School in 1975.

From 1975 to 1976, he attended Ankeny Junior College, Ankeny, where he specialized in diesel mechanics. He worked in this field until 1984 when he joined the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He was honorably discharged in January, 1994. He continued to work in the diesel mechanic field, working for Roadway Express, Memphis, Tenn., from 1998 to 2006. He was a member of Teamster Union, Local 667.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, G. L. and Alice Meskimen, Coin; and Harry and Hazel Michel, Northboro.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; daughter, Meghan; and son, Kristopher, all of the home; his parents, Leland and Yvonne Meskimen, Cave City, Ark.; brothers Tim Tritsch and wife, Pam, Kalamazoo, Mich.; Terry Tritsch and wife, Leslie, Pontotoc, Miss.; Ted Tritsch, Earlham; Mark Meskimen and wife, Pat, Newark, Ark.; and Kurt Meskimen and wife, Carol, Cave City, Ark.; sister Kristi Thompson, Batesville, Ark.; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held at Brantley Funeral Home, Olive Branch, Miss., on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
A second visitation also was held at Qualls Funeral Home, Cave City, Ark., on Monday, Oct. 2, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Funeral services were held at the First Missionary Baptist Church, Cave City, Miss., on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, at 10 a.m. with Bro. Ron Canard officiating. Burial was in Mount View Cemetery located east of Cave City with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home, Cave City.

Pallbearers were Tim Tritsch, Terry Tritsch, Ted Tritsch, Mark Meskimen, Kurt Meskimen and Billy Foster.
Honorary pallbearers were Terry Rowley, Don Stewart, Wayne Harris, Larry Young, Tommy Brown, Bob Mericer, Kirk Shaw and Mark Hopper.

Meyers, Mabel Otte, age 89 Clarinda, Iowa, died Sunday, February 26, 2006, at her home in Clarinda, Iowa.

Mabel Irene Meyers was born January 13, 1917, at Clarinda, Iowa to Henry Harmon Frank Otte and Cora (Cagley) Otte. Mabel was a 1935 graduate of Clarinda High School. She was united in marriage February 5, 1942, to Lloyd H. Meyers at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Clarinda, Iowa. Mabel was an accomplished seamstress and loved doing fancy work. Nieces and nephews treasured the quilts they received from her.

She also sewed "cuddle" blankets for the Clarinda Academy. Mabel enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening . Her nieces and nephews remember taking turns spending summers with Aunt Mabel and they thought of her as a second mom. She enjoyed hosting lots of family reunions and was the family historian. Mabel also enjoyed traveling and square dancing. She was an active member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church and had served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of a church circle. Mabel was also a member of the JHC club.

Preceding Mabel in death were her parents; husband, Lloyd Meyers (11/02/1990); brother, Bruce Otte and wife Nola; sister, Beulah Miller and husband LeRoy; sister, Fern Otte at age 11; sister, Anna Rose Sjoberg;; sister-in-law, Fern Blume and husband Erwin; nephew, Glenn Otte.

Survivors include her brother, Wayne Otte and wife Lois of Clarinda, Iowa; brother-in-law, Orville Sjoberg of Greeley, Colorado; many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.

 

Mier, Glenn Howard - Glenn Howard Mier, age 56, of Clarinda, Iowa passed away on Tuesday afternoon, August 9, 2005 at his home in rural Clarinda, Iowa. He was born July 7, 1949 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Martin and Doris (Schaefer) Mier. He attended school in Clarinda, graduating from Clarinda High School in 1967. He then earned an AA degree from Iowa Western Community College. He later attended Central Missouri State University where he studied aviation and graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

During his younger years Glenn had a keen interest in airplanes. He received his pilots training in Clarinda and advanced training throughout the area. Upon the onset if his illness, Glenn had been a Senior Captain for United Airlines for 28 years. He was currently flying a Boeing 777 internationally from San Francisco, California. He resided in Las Vegas, Nevada prior to moving back to Clarinda in March off 2005.

Glenn was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Clarinda, where he was baptized on July 17, 1949 and confirmed on April 7, 1963. Glenn was a member of the Chicago Toastmasters Club and the Clarinda Stick and Rag Flying Club.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Martin H. Mier and Doris M. Mier.

He is survived by his brother, Norman Mier and his wife Linda and family of Clarinda, Iowa; two sisters, Karen LaCroix and her husband William and family of Inverness, Florida, Marilyn Manning and her husband David and family of Huntington, Maryland; along with many uncles, aunts, cousins and great friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2005 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarinda with burial in the Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the East Page Chapter of the American Cancer Society or to St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarinda.

Fern Louise Miller was born March 17, 1916, at Shambaugh, Iowa to Ermal Leroy Wilson and Vera (Duncan) Wilson. Fern was a graduate of Clarinda High School. She was united in marriage February 15, 1938, to Ermal Lyle (Stub) Miller in Clarinda, Iowa at the United Presbyterian Church. Fern was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church. She loved to play golf. Fern enjoyed her family and she enjoyed thirty winters in California.

Preceding Fern in death were her parents; husband, Lyle (Stub) Miller (11/24/02); brother, Robert Wilson; sisters, Lucille Sarrett and Elsie Annan. Survivors include her children: Joyce Rutherford and husband Ross of Prescott Valley, Arizona, Richard Miller and wife Mary of Menifee, California, Ruth Ann Miller of Sun Lakes, Arizona, Kathleen Boberick and husband Tom of Yucaipa, California, Edward Miller and wife Jean of Clarinda, Iowa, Thomas Miller and wife Kamra of Clarinda, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren.

 

Mitts, Buddy Byron, age 64, resident of Apple Valley, Calif, passed away on December 2, 2005, at Loma Linda University Hospital in Loma Linda, California.

Born in Clarinda, Iowa, June 24, 1941, Buddy had been a California resident for the past 47 years. He was in the Retail Clerks Union for forty years and was a volunteer deputy with the San Bernardino Sheriffs Department, Desert Search and Rescue Posse.

His father, Melvin E. Mitts and mother, Vera Gillespie Mitts, both formerly of Yorktown, Iowa preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children, Robert Olsen, Gary Mitts and Karen Mitts of Redding, California; sister, Jerilyn Annan and her husband Jack and niece Courtney Annan all of Greencastle, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Christopher Olsen of Redding, California, Gary, Sean and Stephanie Mitts of Oregon; paternal aunt, Marlene Mitts Gant and her husband Hobart of Coin, Iowa and maternal uncle, Art McComb of Shenandoah, Iowa.

 

Moody, Garnet "Irene" - Irene Moody, age 76, of Clarinda, Iowa, went to be with her Lord early Sunday morning, July 31, 2005, at the Eiler House, Clarinda, Iowa.

Garnet Irene Moody was born January 28, 1929, at Clarinda, Iowa to Albert Franklin Moody and Isa Lou (McLain) Moody. Irene attended the Clarinda Schools. She went to work for F.W. Woolworth store in 1946. She had completed 27 years of service when a fire caused the store to close. April 1974, she started working for Easter's Ben Franklin store and continued until her retirement February 28, 1992. She had 44 years in the retail business. Irene was the main support for her mother and brother with whom she lived. She attended the Clarinda Free Methodist Church and was a children's Sunday School teacher for many years. Because of her failing health she moved to the Eiler House Assisted Living in 2002.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Violet Moody; and brother, Garney Moody.

She is survived by distant cousins and many, many friends who will miss her cheery smile. Irene was a wonderful friend and those who learned Bible verses under her tutelage will be forever grateful for her faithfulness.

Moore, Ruby Helen Thomas, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2005, at the Clarinda Regional Health Center following a brief illness.

Ruby was born on January 24, 1917, in rural northern Taylor County, Iowa, the first child of Evan Lee Thomas and Edna Faye (Smith) Thomas. At the age of 1 year Ruby and her parents moved to southwest Nebraska and lived on a farm.

On March 10, 1936, Ruby was united in marriage to Thomas (Tommy) D. Moore, a neighbor farm boy. To this union were borne four children, Shirley, Verna, Dale and Terry. In late 1943, when Tommy was inducted into WWII, the family moved to Clarinda to be close to Ruby's parents, who had moved to Clarinda in 1941. When Tommy was discharged from the Army in 1945, he and Ruby moved with their Children to a farm in Taylor County. They continued farming until 1974 when they moved into Clarinda. Ruby worked outside the home as a Tupperware sales person for 24 years, and enjoyed being with all her Tupperware customers throughout those years and after her retirement.

Ruby was an excellent cook and enjoyed having her children and grandchildren come to her home for a yummy home-cooked meal. In her later years the family go to be too large for her home and Ruby enjoyed going to other family members homes and watch them cook the meals.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Moore in 1997, her parents, one sister, Opal Lavonne White, three brothers, Lee Thomas, Dick Thomas and Vernon Thomas, and four grandchildren, Randy Briggs in 1976, Rick Briggs in 1990, Trisha Moore in 1991, and Scott Moore in 2004.

Ruby is survived by her four children: Shirley Briggs and husband Virgil of Clarinda, Iowa, Verna Sanderfield and husband Marvin of Montezuma, Iowa, Dale Moore of Webster City, Iowa, and Terry Moore and wife Judy of Griswold, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren; twenty six great-grandchildren; and eleven great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Ruby will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa, with Pastor Myron Hall of Cedar Falls, Iowa officiating. Visitation will be held 7:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda, Iowa. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Guss, Iowa. Murphy, Edna L., 97, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, in Sioux City.

A graveside service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, at Elmwood Cemetery in Coin with The Reverend Carl Phillips officiating. Burial followed at Elmwood. Edna was born June 14, 1909, in Page County, Iowa, to Bert Charles and Mary Louise (Blessing) Murphy. She grew up on a farm southwest of Coin and attended Coin Consolidated Schools where she graduated in 1927. Edna then attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska Teachers College in 1931. She taught business classes in Coin High School from 1931 to1935 and then taught in the Department of Education at East High School in Sioux City from 1935 to 1973.

Edna was the quintessential dedicated, caring teacher and wrote at her retirement: "This has been a very interesting time to have lived, and especially for those of us engaged in the field of education. I treasure the memories of the experiences and friendships established with the students and community." Edna's nieces and nephews also treasure the memories they have of their dedicated, caring aunt who added so much to the family over the years.

Edna is survived by her nieces and nephews: Phyllis Murphy, Pittsburgh, Penn.; Donna Murphy of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Mervin Murphy of Vancouver, Wash.; Barbara Murphy of Clarinda; Craig Murphy of the Snohomish, Wash., area; and 16 grand nieces and nephews.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Mary Blessing Murphy of Coin; her sister, Theda Murphy of Shenandoah; her brothers, Dr. Richard Murphy of Snohomish, Wash.; Herbert Murphy of Des Moines; and her niece, Elaine McCowen, Coin.
