John Kammerer

THE FREMONT COUNTY SUN. April 6, 1899. "Imogene News".-- Grandpa Kamerer departed this life Saturday at 12:30 after a severe illness of a few days. The funeral services were held from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Rhodes Addy, to the Reformed Church Monday forenoon.

The deceased was born in Westmoreland county, Penna, June 1, 1819, being 79 years 9 months 17 days old. He was baptized into the Reformed Church at four years of age, of which church he was always a faithful and conscientous member. He was united in marriage to Miss Salome Bussard August 25, 1844 and lived in wedded life with her 51 years until 1895 when his wife preceded him.

To this union were given five sons and five daughters all of whom are now living and were present at his bedside as he departed, except one son who died in infancy. The sons George, Michael, James and Joseph live in town or vicinity. Three daughters, Mrs. Rhodes Addy, Mrs. Charles Gee and Mrs. S. F. Adams live here. The two other daughters, Mrs. Edgar Faust, Shenandoah, and Mrs. John Eastman, of Hot Springs, South Dakota, came in response to messages. He has also 37 grandchildren living.

He moved to Dubuque county in 1851, and from there to his farm northwest of town in 1875, moved to town in 1890. Since the death of his wife, he has resided with his daughter, Mrs. Rhodes Addy.

Father Kamerer has three sisters who still survive him, two of whom are older than himself.

The church was tastefully decorated with drapery and floral tributes. The funeral was largely attended by friends who had come to pay respect to the many virtues of the man whose daily life had been an inspiration for a higher living. Rev. Harrington delivered an impressive sermon from Job 14:14: "If a man die shall he live again". After which the remains were viewed and followed by a large cortege to the Protestant cemetery. The pallbearers were his four sons and two grandsons, William and John Kamerer.

Kelley, Irma Jean Phipps, was born April 24, 1923, in Page County, Iowa, to Will Phipps and Stella Mae (McIntyre) Phipps.

Jean died Monday, March 27, 2006, at the Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Curtis E. Kelley. He preceded her in death on February 14, 1961.

Jean worked in the lunch program at School and she then worked at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute in housekeeping and retired from that position Jean enjoyed doing handcraft work and her volunteer work at the Nodaway Valley Historical Museum and Clarinda Regional Health Center.

Preceding Jean in death were her parents; husband, Curtis Kelley; brother-in-law, Merwin Miller. Survivors include her son, Michael Kelley of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Karen Johnson of Douglas, Wyoming; grandson, Christopher Kelley of Cheyenne, Wyoming; sister, Pauline Miller of Clarinda, Iowa.

Mrs Mary E. Knapp, aged 43 years died at the state hospital in Clarinda Sept 23. The body was taken to Des Moines for burial.

Kelley, Virgil E., age 82, of Clearmont, Missouri, died Monday, April 3, 2006 at his home in rural Clearmont, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 7, 2006, at the Christian Church, Braddyville, Iowa with Pastor Alvin Reed officiating. Visitation with the family will be 7-8 p.m., Thursday, April 6, 2006 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Burial will be in the Braddyville Cemetery, Braddyville, Iowa. Virgil E. Kelley was born March 24, 1924, at Maryville, Missouri, to Ora Cecil Kelley and Elizabeth Fredricka (Smith) Kelley. He was a graduate of Clearmont High School. Virgil was united in marriage August 10, 1946, at Troy, Kansas to Ruthe Engstrand. He was a lifelong farmer, farming in the Braddyville, Iowa and Clearmont, Missouri area. Virgil was a member of the Braddyville Christian Church. He enjoyed bowling, woodworking and playing games. His greatest enjoyment was his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceding Virgil in death were his parents and brother, Burman Kelley.

Survivors include his wife Ruthe Kelley of Clearmont, Missouri; son, Ron Kelley and wife Pam of Braddyville, Iowa; son, Gary Kelley of Bedford, Iowa; daughter, Carol Fields and husband Michael of Belton, Texas; daughter, Barbara Hann of The Colony, Texas; twelve grandchildren, Yvonne Stelpflug and husband Ron, Trevor Kelley and wife Ingrid, Christie Strough and husband Jason, Scott Kelley and wife Jean, Nichole Tucker and husband Kevin, Shaela Brown and husband Jeremy, Jessica Kelley, Tara Legenza and husband Jon, Lacie Fields, Loni Fields, Krista Hann and Jeremy Hann; thirteen great grandchildren, Carissa, Donevan, Skylar, Chandler, Chance, Gabriella, Jackson, Kaylee, Adam, Alex, Morgan, Jalisa, Jarrett; brother, Kenneth Kelley and wife Nadine of Nevada, Iowa; sister-in-law, Betty Kelley of Clearmont, Missouri; nieces and nephews.

 

King, Merle Cleatis, age 85, of rural Shenandoah, Iowa, died Monday, April 24, 2006, at Shenandoah Medical Center, Shenandoah, Iowa after suffering a massive stroke on Easter Sunday morning.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 28, 2006, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend Carl Phillips officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 27, 2006 at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date at Baker Cemetery, rural Shenandoah, Iowa. Merle Cleatis King was born February 6, 1921, on a farm in Page County, Iowa to Elmer Carlton King and Bertha Mae (Bohrer) King. Merle attended rural schools. He was united in marriage April 7, 1951, at Glenelg, Maryland, to Ruth Mullinix. Merle was a lifelong farmer; he also did custom baling and moved buildings for people

He was an active lifelong member of the Norwich Methodist Church. . Merle enjoyed going to auctions and collecting and selling antiques (junk). A favorite quote of Merle's was "He who dies with the most junk wins". He enjoyed life and his sense of humor was treasured by family and friends.

Preceding Merle in death were his parents; newborn son, John Carlton King; grandchild, Glen Beery; brothers, Dale King and Walter King.

Survivors include his wife Ruth King of Shenandoah, Iowa; daughters, Marilyn Kinsella and husband Bernard of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Pam Beery of Shenandoah, Iowa; grandchildren, Bernie Kinsella of Omaha, Nebraska, Megan Beery of Shenandoah, Iowa, Katie Kinsella of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brother, John King and wife Vera of Chillicothe, Missouri; sister-in-law, Lavelle Gentry King of Kansas City, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

 

Kirsch, Anthony Michael, 1 year, 4 months, and 7 days old
son of Michael Dean and Tammy Jo (Holub) Kirsch was born
November 2, 2005, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and passed away
March 9, 2007, at the Clarinda Regional Health Center in
Clarinda, Iowa.
 

 

Kinman, Orpha, age 100, of Clarinda, Iowa, died Friday, June 23, 2006, at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, Iowa.

Kinman, Orpha Lillian,  was born July 14, 1905, at Elmo, Missouri, to William Ecker and Minnie
(Snodderly) Ecker. She was united in marriage October 19, 1924, in
Clarinda, Iowa, to Vilas Kinman who preceded her in death in 1953.
Orpha worked at Lisle Corporation for many years in assembly. Her
interests through the years were gardening, crocheting and knitting
with her main interest being her children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren. She was a member of the First Christian Church,
Clarinda, Iowa.

Preceding Orpha in death were her parents; husband, Vilas; infant child; six brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her children: Wayne Kinman and wife Mary of Liberty, Missouri, Delpha Pugh and husband Garfield of Shambaugh, Iowa, Connie Kinman and wife Connie of Clarinda, Iowa; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.




Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m, Monday, June 26, 2006 at
Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Rev. John Clark
officiating. There was open visitation at the funeral home. Burial was
in Maple Hill Cemetery, College Springs, Iowa. Memorials may be
directed to Goldenrod Manor. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home was in charge

Kerr, Ruth L. Beeson passed away on March 3, 2005 at the age of 92. She lived in Escondido, CA. She was born June 23, 1912 in Clarinda.
Her survivors includes her son Frank V. Owen; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Her ashes were scattered at sea off San Diego County.


Kelley, Conrad R., 75, a retired president of Genstar Gypsum Corporation, passed away in Bedford, Tuesday, March 15, 2005.
Inurnment will be held in the Spring at Old Memory Cemetery in Clarinda, Iowa.
Conrad was born July 18, 1929 in Clarinda, Iowa.
His survivors include his beloved wife of 54 years, Carol W. Kelley; daughters, Gloria K. Rice and husband, William of Montpeller, Vt., Diane K. Golbeck and husband, Bernard of Port Orchard, Wash.; sisters, Janice Kendrick and husband, Darwin and Karen Foote and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Warren Rice and Caroline Rice; and special friends, Vikram and Renuka Singh Shaktawat and family of Udaipur, India.

 

 

 

Keeran, Charles W. "Bill," age 76, of Yorkville, Illinois, passed away Friday, November, 12, 2004, at the Hillside Healthcare Center, Yorkville, Illinois.

He was born on August 22, 1928, in Nebraska City, Nebraska the son of Glenn and Melva (Chaffin) Keeran. Mr. Keeran served his country first in the United States Navy and then as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force. He was united in marriage on August 29, 1953 in Urbana, Illinois to the former Phyllis Orr and they spend the next 51 happy years of their lives together.

"Bill" was employed, for over 37 years, as an engineer by Caterpillar, Inc. in Aurora, Illinois. He was a member of the Taylor Masonic Lodge in Peoria, Illinois. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be missed by his family and many friends.

"Bill" is survived by his wife, Phyllis Keeran of Yorkville, Illinois; his children, Brian Keeran and wife Lori of Salt Lake City, Utah, Karen Joyce and husband Dan of Yorkville, Illinois and Kevin Keeran and wife Sharon of Atlanta, Georgia; his five grandchildren, Kenneth Keeran, Meghan Joyce, Jessica Joyce, Jacqueline Joyce and Harrison Keeran; his brother, Kennard Keeran and wife Phyllis of Clarinda, Iowa; and his sister, Helen Davis and husband Jack of Yuba City, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Melva Keeran.

Graveside memorial services were held 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at Summit Cemetery, rural Yorktown, Iowa with Rev. Walden Paige officiating. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

Keeran, Joycelyn "Bownes," 67, of Palm Desert died March 13, 2005, in Rancho Mirage.
Born March 2, 1938, to Viles Lynn and Irmal Leona Bownes in Tabor, Iowa.
She attended Clarinda Junior College in Clarinda Iowa, receiving an Associate of Arts degree in Elementary Teaching. There she met her husband James Elwyn Keeran. They were married June 30, 1957 in Clarinda, IA. They moved to Redlands, CA. in 1958, Hemet, CA in 1959 and to Palm Desert CA. in 1968.
She worked at Hope Lutheran pre-school in Palm Desert for 15 years as a teacher where she was known as 'Miss Joy' to hundreds of children who attended the school.
She was a member of University Baptist Church and the church's choir.
Joy returned to Iowa every summer for the past 47 years. After Jim's retirement from General Telephone, the two would spend several weeks each summer in Iowa.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years James Keeran, daughter Marcie Condon of Palm Desert, sons Robert Keeran of Bermuda Dunes, Mike Keeran of Bermuda Dunes and Scott Keeran of Palm Desert, Sisters Phyllis Williamson of Emerson, IA and Sharron Graham of Shambaugh, IA, 9 grandchildren 1 niece and 5 nephews.
Visitation was Thursday at FitzHenry Chapel, 44-635 San Rafael Avenue, Palm Desert, California, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
Memorial services were Friday at 9:00 at University Baptist Church in Palm Desert.
The Family suggests that donations be made to the Luci Curci Cancer Center.

 

Kennedy,  Luella McCalla, 79, of Rosemont, PA, a counselor at Bryn Mawr College and Gladwyne Elementary School for 21 years, died in her home of complications from cancer September 22.

Mrs. Kennedy was born in Clarinda, Iowa. She received her bachelor's degree from Oberlin College in 1948, following one year at Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pa. She initially pursued a career in journalism, working as the editor for the Illinois Tool Works in-house journal in Chicago, and later, as editor of the Oberlin College Alumni Magazine in Oberlin, Ohio.

She received her first graduate degree - the Diploma in Management Training -- from Radcliffe College, Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1952. At that time, Harvard Business School was closed to women. Mrs. Kennedy then became the Director of Public Relations for Pine Manor Junior College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. She and her husband, Melville T. Kennedy, professor emeritus of Political Science at Bryn Mawr College, moved to the Philadelphia area in 1958.

In 1972 she earned the Master of Science in Social Work from Bryn Mawr College. Mrs. Kennedy was employed by the Child Study Institute of Bryn Mawr College, with assignments in the College Infirmary and as school counselor at Gladwyne Elementary School. She later was employed directly by the Lower Merion School District.

Mrs. Kennedy supervised and mentored numerous social work students, leaving a legacy of skilled counselors specializing in the support and guidance of younger school-age children.

In addition to her years of professional counseling, Mrs. Kennedy contributed to numerous civic organizations and issues, both locally and abroad. She was an active member of the League of Women Voters and the Democratic Party.

She also worked on issues of fair housing. With her husband, she hosted A Better Chance (ABC) students for five years as well as opening her home to Philadelphia International Program participants and Bryn Mawr College students from China. During a two-year stay in India (1969-1971), Mrs. Kennedy volunteered as the school social worker for a private girls' school in New Delhi and was the only non-Indian member of the Executive Committee of the National YWCA of India.

She was on the boards of the Bryn Mawr College Chinese Scholarship Fund and Committee for International Students, and served for ten years on the Board of Directors of The Timothy School, founded for children with special learning needs due to autism and severe social/emotional problems.

Mrs. Kennedy was an Elder of the Presbyterian Church in Wayne and a member of the Philadelphia Presbytery Committee on Ordination, as well as an active member of the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church for the last 20 years of her life.
She is survived by daughters Leslie Elder of Bethesda, Maryland, and Gail Coleman of Madison, Wisconsin and four grandchildren. Husband Melville Kennedy preceded her in death in 2003 after 49 years of marriage.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Saturday November 5 in the Chapel of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church 625 Montgomery Ave. Bryn Mawr, PA.

Knizley, William Craig was born December 3, 1921 at Tarkio, Missouri to William Perry and Lydia Magdelene (Stemen) Knizley. He passed away on Sunday morning, May 15, 2005 at Westridge Quality Care & Rehab Center in Clarinda following a lengthy illness.
He attended rural school in the Atchison County area and two years at Tarkio High School. On November 24, 1940 he was married to Marguerite Phipps, and they lived all of their 64 years together in Shambaugh. In 1943 Bill joined the U.S. Army and served his country in the motor pool on Ohau, Hawaii.
Bill and Marguerite have two daughters; Linda married to HK Jones and Patricia married to Ralph Mehrens. Four grandchildren; Dawn and John Shannon, Toni and Ron Cornelison, Kenton Ripley, Tina and Paul Schram. Seven great grandchildren; Tyler Ripley, Levi and Mattie Shannon, Makena and Joshua Cornelison, Sabrina Renee Ripley and Sara Schram.
Preceding Bill in death are his sisters; Davida Fuller, Ivoree Adams, Amanda Adams and brothers; Edward and Cayrol Knizley. Fred Knizley of Clarinda survives.
Bill owned a livestock truck and hauled for area farmers until 1966 when he went to work for for Kenny and Patsy Ripley at Midland Lumber Company in College Springs. Bill worked there until he suffered a heart attack in 1987, both Kenny and Bill retired.
Bill loved carpentry and making things for people. Many people have shelves, quilting frames, picture frames and other creations he made. He made signs for the Shambaugh Methodist Church, Birch and Shearer Cemeteries. Also, he loved gardening and sharing his produce with his acquaintances. He also loved feeding birds, squirrels and Bill Black's dogs. He expressed concern that after he was gone his squirrels wouldn't be fed. He especially enjoyed playing cards with his friends and neighbors, most recently at the Shambaugh Community Center group.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda with Rev. Ralph Mehrens officiating. Burial was in the Butler Cemetery in Shambaugh.
Visitation with the family present was held Friday evening, May 20 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda. Memorial contributions can be sent to the Shambaugh Community Center Building Fund. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda was in charge of arrangements.

 

Kryselmire, Adaline Mary Parkhurst, died at the age of 93 on February 24, 2005 in Winter Park, Florida. She was born in Omaha, Nebraska on June 27, 1911, the daughter of Irvin and Laura Parkhurst. The family moved to Sioux City, Iowa shortly after her birth and this was where she graduated from high school, met and married Leonard Kryselmire in 1930. Adaline and Leonard moved to Clarinda in 1936 where they were associated with the Clarinda Greenhouse for over forty years. Adaline always felt it was a privilege to be a part of the joys and sorrows of the community through the business.
Adaline was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, PEO, a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, and the Mother Advisor for Rainbow for many years. Following their retirement in 1980, Adaline and Leonard moved to Venice, Florida. There she became associated with a silk flower company named Lux Art. In the 16 years that she worked there, she saw it grow from a mother and son business to a company that sold its products on the international market. In 2003, her failing health and poor eyesight reached a point where she moved to an assisted living facility near Orlando. She resided their until her death.
Adaline was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Leonard and by one son Bob.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie Peterson of The Villages, Florida; her son Ed Kryselmire of Evanston, Wyoming; her sister, Viola Ewingof Sioux Falls, South Dakota; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda. Inurnment will be in the Clarinda Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel of Clarinda is in charge of arrangements.

 

Kohout, Laddie Lumir was born June 27, 1922 at Dorchester, Nebraska, the son of Emil and Mary (Potach) Kohout. He passed away January 11, 2006 at Westridge Quality Care & Rehab in Clarinda, Iowa at the age of 83.

Laddie and his family farmed near College Springs, Iowa. Laddie graduated from Dorchester High School and served in the US Coast Guard during World War II aboard the OWASCO PG-105 ship. Laddie was a longtime member of the American Legion. Following his honorable discharge he returned to farming. Laddie continued his interests in farming with Wilson Seeds, raising purebred Shorthorns and Salers, and selling at the Farmers Market.

Laddie is survived by his wife, Arliss, of College Springs, Ia; children: Bill Kohout, Sharon Kohout-Lawrence, and Jim Kohout; grandchildren: Brett Kohout, Erin Kohout, Rachel Lawrence, Carey Kohout, and Conor Kohout; and a brother, Emil Kohout.            

Memorial services were held Saturday, January 14, 2006 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda with burial at Maple Hill Cemetery, College Springs, Iowa. Graveside military rites were provided by American Legion Sergy Post #98 of Clarinda. Memorials are suggested to the College Springs Rescue or College Springs Amity Hall. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel of Clarinda was in charge of arrangements.

 

 
Kennedy,  Alberta M. Mauk, 91, of Norwalk, IA, formerly of Adel, IA and this area, died Thursday morning December 22, 2005 at CLC Norwalk where she had been a resident for the past two months.

Alberta Marie Mauk was born at Lewis, IA on October 10, 1914, the daughter of William H. and Mary Elizabeth (Stevens) Mauk. She attended rural schools and worked for several people in the Lewis and Atlantic area.

On January 29, 1942 she married George R. Kennedy at Red Oak, IA, and they farmed in the Elliott and Griswold area until 1955 when they moved to Clarinda to farm. While they lived in Clarinda, Alberta was a cook at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital. George died on January 2, 1967.

Following his death she moved to West Des Moines where she cooked at Crestview Acres and did housecleaning for people on a private basis. She moved to Waukee, IA and then in 1992 moved to Adel, IA, where she lived until moving to Norwalk.

Survivors include two daughters, Doris Kennedy of Des Moines, IA and Phyllis Bishop of Omaha, NE, and two granddaughters, Angela Long of Omaha, NE, and Vickie Loghry of Des Moines. Her great-grandchildren are Lee, Scott, Trent and Travis Weis and Tara Thompson of Omaha and Todd and Kayla Allen on Des Moines. Alberta's stepson is Earl Kennedy and his wife Fran of Dover, AR and her step grandchildren are Sharon Kennedy and Kevin Kennedy and his wife Kristy. Her step great-grandchildren and step great-great grandchild are Christine Adkision, Lisa Gibson and daughter Ashlan, Kerry, Aaron and Kathryn Kennedy. Also surviving is one sister, Irene Wissler of Atlantic, IA and her several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Alberta in death were her parents, her husband, six sisters, Bessie Clements, Jessie Forsyth, Velma Wissler, Hazel Shuffler, Ethel Mauk and Alta Ingram and four brothers, Alva, Everett, Wilbert and Orville Mauk.

Graveside services were held Monday, December 26, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Whipple Cemetery northwest of Griswold. Friends called at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold on Monday morning for open visitation. Alberta requested memorials to either the Heart or Diabetes Funds.
 

Kaiser, Barbara L. Brooke - Barbara L. Kaiser was born July 10, 1931 in Shenandoah, Iowa, and died July 7, 2009, in Denver, Colo. She was born to Lester and Mary Brooke and raised in Clarinda, Iowa.

After graduation from high school and cosmetology school, she married and had a family. She continued to live and work in Clarinda until 1962. When Barbara and her family moved to Denver, Colo., she worked as a beautician until her retirement 20 years ago.

Barbara leaves behind her daughter, Linn Dawson, two grandsons Aaron Dawson of Denver and Michael Geer of Heerlen (The Netherlands), four great-grandchildren; Isaiah, Markus and Jeremiah Dawson, all of Denver, and Alyssa Maes, also of Denver. She is also survived by her brother Les Brooke of Clarinda, Iowa.

Preceding her in death are her parents Lester and Mary Brooke, her first husband Delbert Geer, her second husband Les Kaiser, and her son Michael Geer, Sr. Barbara also leaves a loving family of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services were held at DeWitt and Tabler Funeral Home in Thornton, Colorado.

 

Karg, Homer Dale - Funeral services for Homer Karg, age 88, of Clarinda, Iowa, who entered into peace Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Select Specialty Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska will be held Friday, February 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend John Clark officiating. There will be open visitation Thursday until 7:00 p.m. and visitation with the family will be held 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday prior to the service. .Burial with military rites by American Legion Sergy Post 98 will be held in the Memory Cemetery, New Market, Iowa. Homer Dale Karg was born September 28, 1921, in Johnson County, Missouri to Robert J. Karg and Blanche Belle (Chappell) Karg. He was from a large family of five brothers and four sisters. As a young child, Homer spent time in Missouri and South Dakota before moving to the New Market/Gravity area in the early 1930’s. He helped farm around New Market until he answered the call to serve his country during World War II. Homer entered the Navy in May 1942; he was part of the Amphibians Force having served in the European Campaign and also extensively in the South Pacific. He earned numerous medals and ribbons. He was discharged December 12, 1945. On August 3, 1946, he was united in marriage to Beryl Ann Hardee in Troy, Kansas. They were blessed with three children, Patricia, Sherry and Marvin. They lived in Pleasant Hill, Missouri moving back to Page County and living in the Shambaugh area before moving to Clarinda in the late 1950’s.

In the early 1960’s, Homer went to work for the Lisle Corporation as a machinist and later a supervisor, retiring after twenty three years. Beryl Ann passed away in September, 1983. In 1986, Homer met Jan Moses and they enjoyed fishing in Minnesota, antiquing, and traveling. They enjoyed being around family which included the time spent at J’s Restaurant when Jan was working.

Homer was a member of the VFW (lifetime), American Legion Post 98 and a member for over fifty years of the Masonic Lodge AF & AM of Siam. He was a past member of the Clarinda Rotary Club. Homer was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clarinda.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beryl Ann; brothers, Clifford Karg and Alvin Karg; sisters, Juanita Weaver, Thelma Snow and Lola Belle Hughes.

Left to cherish his memory are his companion, Jan Moses of Clarinda, Iowa; children, Patricia Sunderman and husband Clinton of Clarinda, Iowa, Sherry Balster and husband Steve of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Marvin Karg and wife Teresa of Freeport, Illinois; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; Jan’s children, Jeff Moses of Maryville, Missouri, Jeanette Johnson and husband Bruce of Elmo, Missouri, Janalyn Sunderman and husband Dave of Clarinda, Iowa, Jay Moses and wife Karmen of Clarinda, Iowa , Joey Moses and wife Theresa of Lenox, Iowa, Jan’s thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; brothers, Henry Karg of New Market, Iowa, Robert Karg and wife Nadine of Clarinda, Iowa, Harvey Karg of Clarinda, Iowa; sister, Edith DeBord of Creston, Iowa; nieces; nephews and many friends.

Keesis, Jesse "Komo" - Jesse "Komo" Keesis was born January 13, 1935 on the Kickapoo Indian Reservation at Horton, Kansas, the son of Jesse and Dora (Williams) Keesis. He passed away suddenly on Tuesday morning, August 4, 2009 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 22 days.

Jesse, known to everyone as Komo, his Indian name, attended school on the reservation through the eighth grade. During his teenage years he lived in the Imogene area and has spent the last fifty years in Shenandoah. On February 7, 1959, Komo was united in marriage to Mary Etta Hall in Nebraska City, Nebraska. This union was blessed with four children; Jesse Wayne, Tamara Kay, Rodney Lee and Larry Dean.

Komo was employed many years at Mt. Arbor Nurseries. Then later he worked for Farmaster, Eaton Corporation and Lisle Corporation. After his retirement, Komo and Mary were self employed with Keesis Lawn Service.

Komo enjoyed sports. He coached little league baseball and played a lot of basketball. He also started the Elkettes girls softball team in Shen- andoah. Whenever he had the chance, Komo would go see the Harlem Globetrotters. He often got out on the floor and threw some balls with them, as well as the Harlem Magicians. But most of all, Komo enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. You would often see him sitting in his driveway on a hot summer day.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Sophie Shane, Nettie Wishkeno, Florence Gibson, Corolene Potts, Franceline Masqua; an infant brother; and an infant granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Etta Keesis of Shenandoah, Iowa; his children, Jesse Wayne Keesis of Winner, South Dakota, Tamara Kay Gage and her husband Kerry of Clarinda, Iowa, Rodney Lee Keesis of Shenandoah, Iowa, Larry Dean Keesis and his wife Erin of La Place, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Natalie Denton of Lafayette, California, Jessica Heter of Las Vegas, Nevada, Daniel Keesis of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Rodney Keesis of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Cheyenne Keesis of Portland, Oregon, Ashley Keesis of Blanchard, Iowa; four great grandchildren, Olivia Denton, Roxy Denton, Chloe Denton, Daniel Rodius; a sister Marjorie Pahmahmie of Horton, Kansas; along with many other relatives and friends.

Visitation with the family present took place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening, August 7, 2009 at the Kirsch Funeral Chapel in Shenandoah. A Drum Ceremony was held at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at the Kickapoo Community Building in Horton, Kansas.

Burial was in the Mason Cemetery at Horton, Kansas. Memorials were suggested to the Shenandoah Parks and Recreation Sports Programs. Keenan, Pearl Sage, daughter of Charles and Rebecca (Fitzgerald) Sage, was born on March 29, 1909, at Thurman, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, November 21, 2005, at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah at the age of 96.

At a young age, the family moved to Shenandoah, where Pearl received her education. On May 19, 1934, Pearl was united in marriage to Walter J. Keenan at Shenandoah. She worked seasonally for Henry Fields Seed & Nursery for several years.

She was a longtime member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Shenandoah. Pearl enjoyed church activities and going out to eat with family and friends. She also enjoyed reading and going for walks.
Preceding Pearl in death were her parents; husband, Walter; and two brothers. Survivors include her children, Mary Jane Hawk of Shenandoah, IA and Thomas J. Keenan of Lincoln, NE; three grandchildren, Jennifer French and Teresa Allely and her husband Rodney, all of Shenandoah, IA and Patty Anson of Solon, IA; five great grandchildren, Natalie French, Alex Anson, Aaron Anson, Nick Allely and Breanna Allely; one sister, Ethel Lambert of Redding CA; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral Services were held on Friday, November 25, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home. Words of comfort were given by the Rev. Tim Vann. Organist was Mary Beth Gowing. Soloist was Joe Drake, who sang "Breathe On Me, Breath Of God" and "He Leadeth Me". Attending the memory register was Patsy Martin. Casket bearers were Rod Allely, Alex Anson, Aaron Anson, Joe Drake, Ed Martin and Ian McLaren. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
 
Keller, Dorman Donald, the son of Earl E. Keller and Lulu (Tristler) Keller, was born September 16, 1916 in Humeston, Iowa. He passed away August 24, 2005 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 88.

Don spent his childhood in Humeston, Iowa and graduated from Humeston High School in 1933. He went on to attend the American Institute of Business and graduated in 1935. Don was united in marriage to Ruth Wright in Norwalk, Iowa on March 20, 1938. The couple resided in Des Moines, Iowa. From 1941 - 1945, Don served in the United States Navy.

Don worked for Union Motor Studebaker Sales from 1935 - 1941, Central National Bank 1945 - 1957 and First Federal State Bank 1958 - 1973, all in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a 50 year Mason and a member of the Sertoma Club. He enjoyed hunting and coin collecting.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Isabelle and Fred & Vera Joy , who assisted with his upbringing. He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Shenandoah; son, Jed Keller and wife Patti Hansen of Los Gatos, CA; daughter, Margie and husband Carl Boylan of Shenandoah; special family members, Donabelle and Kenneth Graham of Humeston, IA and Shirley and Ron Fouche of Osceola, IA, as well as many friends.

Graveside services were held Saturday, August 27, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Humeston Cemetery in Humeston, Iowa. Words of comfort were given by Art Anderson. Interment was in Humeston Cemetery.
