[101] Jennie Fulk, Daughter of Robert and Rachel Pinkerton Duncan, was born August 6, 1891 at Shambaugh. She attended the Butler Country school and Amity College at College Springs. She was married to Ed Fulk November 33 [sic] 1911 at Shambaugh. The[y] farmed all their married life northwest of Shambaugh until moving to the Country Club Apartments in 1965.

She was a member of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sons, Robert at age 10, Ermal at age 2 and one son in infancy; one brother; and Marvin's oldest son, Eddie, who passed away accidentally in 1972. She is survived by her husband, Ed; two daughters, Mrs LaVern [Wilma] Sawyer of Sepulveda, California, and Mrs James [Marilyn] Crain of Clarinda; three sons, Kenneth of Des Moines, Iowa, Lyle of Hamburg, Iowa and Marvin of Violet Hill, Arkansas; two sisters, Mrs Mabel Vander Linden of Iowa City, Iowa, and Mrs Vera Wilson of Clarinda; one brother, Johnie Duncan of Los Angeles, California; twenty-two grandchildren which include: Kenneth's children, Sandra Newton, Jennifer Murray, Bobbie, Connie Olson and Pattie; Wilma's children, Bette and Dean; Lyle's children, Nancy, Joann, Roger, Susan and Karen; Marvin's children, Marva, Diane, Jed, Robert and Daniel; Marilyn's children, Jay Dee, Cynthia, Candice, Jac and Cheryl; and one great-grandson, Sandra's son Eric.

 

Fine, Charles Lynn - Charles Lynn Fine, 66, retired farmer from Sheridan [Missouri], died Monday [Mar 1972] at a hospital at Mt Ayr [Iowa].

He is survived by his wife, Gretchen; a brother, Elza Fine, Bedford; and six sisters, Mrs Ruby Renfro and Mrs Blanch Jobe, New Market; Mrs Lydia Wynn, Santa Barbara, Cal; Mrs Cloe Beck, Barstow, Cal; Mrs Beulah Pace, Cheyenne, Wyo and Mrs Inez Horner, Des Moines.

Funeral services were Wednesday at the Sheridan United Methodist Church, burial in the Grant City Cemetery. [Jul 1, 1906 - Mar 1972]

Fine, Darlene Killam - Darlene Fine, 65, of New Market, Ia, died July 8, 1986 at the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital where she had been the past 10 days.

She was born March 16, 1921 at Gaynor, Mo. Her father was Ross R. Killam and mother was Beaulah Taylor.

She was married to Eldon Fine on March 20, 1947. Together they spent their lives on the farm in the New Market, Bedford area. She was a member of the Siam Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Mrs Morris (Shirley) Sump of rural Clarinda, and Mrs Searl (Sharon) Kirchner of rural Clarinda. There are seven grandchildren, a brother Herbert Killiam of Bedford, and her mother-in-law, Dessie Fine of New Market.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services were held July 10 at 1:30 pm at Walker-Merrick Funeral home, with burial, in the Memory cemetery at New Market, Ia.

Memorials can be directed to the Siam Church of Christ or the Cancer Fund.

Fine, Dessie E. Holland - Funeral services for Dessie E. Fine were held Monday, Nov 18, 1991 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda, Iowa with Rev Carl Cummings officiating. Burial was at Memory Cemetery near New Market, Iowa.

Dessie E. Fine was born August 15, 1899 near Greenville, Tenn., the daughter of Elihue and Tinnie Hunt Holland. At an early age, she came to New Market community where she was baptized in the Baptist Church at age 13.

She married Ray Fine January 28, 1920. Mr and Mrs Fine farmed in the Siam area. He preceded her in death July 7, 1971.

Mr Fine was a member of the New Market United Methodist Church and a charter member of the North Star Circle Club. She lived in New Market until moving to Goldenrod Manor where she died Tuesday, Nov 12, 1991 at the age of 92 years.

Mrs Fine is survived by a son, Eldon and wife Eva of New Market and two granddaughters, Mrs Morris (Shirley) Sump and Mrs Serle (Sharon) Kirchner. There are eight great grandchildren, Donna and Denise Sump, Seth, Rachel, Sandra, Tara, Roxanne, and Deborah Kirchner. There is one sister, Mrs Pauline Sparks of New Market. Also surviving are three step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren.

Mrs Fine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Albert Holland, and three sisters, Minnie Oxford, Montie Clayton, and Inez Owens and daughter-in-law, Darlene Fine.

She was a kind and considerate person and she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Fine, Eldon George - Eldon George Fine, 86, of Maryville, Mo, died August 22, 1993, at the Creston Nursing Home in Creston [Iowa] and his funeral was held Wednesday at the Price Funeral Home in Maryville. Burial was in the Clearmont Cemetery.

Fine was born to George and Carrie Shields Fine of Braddyville on June 28, 1907. He married Ivan Orlena Bush of Clearmont, Mo, on August 2, 1933, at St Joseph, Mo.

He is survived by his wife, Ivan; three daughters, Patricia Zimmerman and husband Jerry of Omaha, Jody Emerson and husband Jeff of Creston and Judy Fine of St Joseph; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one sister, Opal Michaels of Clarinda; two brothers, Stanley Fine and Wayne Fine of Braddyville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Alma Whitney and Pauline Schmidt, and brother, Gerald Fine.

Eldon Fine was a car salesman at Maryville for 40 years and was honored by the Ford Motor Company for sales excellance. He was inducted in the 500 Ford Motor Club. He was a lifelong member of the Elks Club of Maryville and a member of the First Baptist Church of Maryville.

 

Fine, Harvey Ray - Harvey Ray Fine, son of Perry and Rachel Rouch Fine, was born January 3, 1898, in Taylor County near Siam, Iowa. He passed away July 7, 1971, at his home north of Siam at the age of 73 years, 6 months, and 4 days.

On January 28, 1920, he was united in marriage to Dessie Holland and they have one son Eldon. He had lived his entire life in the Siam area enjoying working on the farm until recent years when his health began to fail.

He had become a member of the Siam Methodist Church as a young man.

He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother and one brother, Clarence.

Besides his wife, Dessie, and his son Eldon, he is survived by his daughter-in-law Darlene, two granddaughters Shirley Kay of Clarinda, Iowa, and Sharon Elaine of Siam. Two brothers, Lynn of Sheridan, Missouri, and Elza of Bedford, Iowa. Six sisters, Mrs Vern Beck (Chloe) of Barstow, California, Mrs Lydia Wynn of Santa Barbara, California, Mrs Bula Pace of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Mrs Conlin Jobe (Blanche) and Mrs Ruby Renfro of New Market, and Mrs Orville Horner (Inez) of Des Moines. Several nephews and nieces, and many friends and neighbors that he always enjoyed visiting with.

Fine, Stanley Marvin - Stanley Marvin Fine, 72, of Braddyville, died Saturday, Jan 13, 1996 at Veterans Hospital, Omaha, Ne.

He was born April 5, 1923 at Braddyville, the son of George and Carrie Shields Fine. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, having served in the Marines.

On Aug 1, 1986, he married Carrol White, who survives. Fine had been a trucker for 38 years.

He is survived by his wife of the home; seven children, Karen Moses, Montreal, Wi; Barbara and Tom Docken, St Paul, Mn; Coleen and Pat Schumann, St Paul; George Fine, Seattle, Wa; Greg and Stacy Fine, Shenandoah; Jeremy and Neelie Fine, Red Oak; David Fine, Braddyville; 12 grandchildren; five great grandchildren.

Also surviving is a brother, Kenneth W. Fine, Braddyville; and sister, Opal Michael, Clarinda.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and one grandchild.

Graveside services will be at 2 pm on Thursday, Jan 18 at Shearer Cemetery, near Braddyville with Rev Dale Schoening officiating.

Visitation will be from 7-8 pm on Wednesday, Jan 17 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda.

Visitiation and viewing will also be held at the cemetery one half hour prior to the graveside service. A memorial is being established.

 

Farlin, Michael Gene Sr - Michael Gene Farlin, Sr. was born November 9, 1946 in Clarinda, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Helen (Lasley) Farlin. He passed away on Wednesday morning, December 2, 2009 at his home in Clarinda, Iowa at the age of 63 years and 23 days.

Mike grew up in Villisca until his family moved to Clarinda in 1958. He attended school in Clarinda and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1965. He attended college for a year and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. On December 12, 1969, Mike was united in marriage to Caroline Kinser in Clarinda, Iowa.

This union was blessed with two children, Mike, Jr. and Tiffany. Mike worked as a mechanic and exhaust man for Charlie Richardson at Johnson Tire and for Paul Swanson. In November 1989 he opened his own shop and operated it until December 2001. He enjoyed antique cars and being outside. He especially enjoyed camping, fishing and barbequing.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Caroline Farlin of Clarinda, Iowa; his children, Mikey Farlin and his wife Tracey of Clarinda, Iowa, Tiffany Wood and her husband Nick of Braddyville, Iowa; five grandchildren, Mackenzie Farlin of Clarinda, Iowa, Trevor and Skylar Shane, Payton and Brody Wood all of Braddyville, Iowa; sister, Carol Hunt and her husband Paul of Clarinda, Iowa; father-in-law D.A. Kinser of Red Oak, Iowa; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sandy Wynne and her husband Dan of Jacksonville, Florida, Bob Kinser and his wife Jan of Stanton, Iowa, Bobbi Copeland and her husband Jim of Clarinda, Iowa, Darwin Kinser and his wife Connie of Red Oak, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends.

 

Farmer, Jean Marie Little - Jean Marie Farmer, the daughter of Lewis and Lillian (Brazill) Little, was born June 11, 1924 at the family farm near College Springs, Iowa. Jean grew up on the family farm in College Springs, Iowa. After high school at Amity High, College Springs, Iowa, Jean graduated from Northwest Missouri State College.

Jean and Mack Farmer were united in marriage February 3, 1945 at College Springs, Iowa. In addition to being a mother and homemaker, Jean was a Librarian and Business Teacher at South Page, West Nodaway and Shenandoah school districts. Jean always found time to help with the Cub Scouts while her boys were involved.

Jean and Mack always had time for traveling in the west and visiting friends. Jean retired after twenty years of teaching. Jean and Mack after retiring, wintered in Arizona, and Jean assisted Mack with his woodworking.

Preceding Jean in death were her parents; husband Mack; son Gary Farmer, sister Phyllis and her husband Don Broyles; two sisters in-law and one brother in-law.

Surviving Jean is her son Joe and wife Sherrel Farmer of Coin, Iowa; daughter in-law Debra Farmer of Clarinda, Iowa; grandchildren Chelsie and Lucas Farmer of Clarinda, Iowa; Patrick and wife Jessica Farmer of Granger, Iowa; Susie Farmer of Maryville, Missouri; step- grandchildren Michelle Hoyt of Watson, Missouri: David Hoyt and wife Jennifer of Clarinda, Iowa: and Shelly Griffith and Husband Paul of Coin, Iowa; thirteen great grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Presbyterian Church in College Springs, Iowa, with interment in the Maple Hill Cemetery, College Springs, Iowa. Memorials are to the College Springs Fire and Rescue. The Tradition of Walker-Merrick Funeral Home provided the arrangements.

 

Fastenau, Richard John - Richard John Fastenau, 80, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009 after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Dec.14, 2009 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 8301 Aurora Ave., Urbandale, with interment in Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation with the family was held 4-6 p.m. Sunday at McLaren's Chapel.

Richard was born in Clarinda, Iowa on November 26, 1929 to Henry and Elvira (Sunderman) Fastenau. He graduated from Villisca High School in 1947. After high school Richard entered the military and graduated flight school as a fighter pilot. He flew in theater at the end of the Korean War.

Then he was stationed in Del Rio, Texas and served as a jet fighter pilot instructor. After retiring from active duty he later joined the Iowa Air National Guard serving in multiple capacities for over 15 years.

Richard married Elaine Harris on June 27, 1954 in Clarinda, Iowa. Upon returning from Texas they made their home in central Iowa. Richard graduated from Drake University in 1959. He started his business career at Univac and later co-founded Zytron, a successful microfilm business.

He spent more than 25 years with the company as it expanded throughout the region. Upon retirement Richard continued to employ his business and financial skills to private consulting and volunteering his skills to serve his congregation and regional Lutheran Church. Richard, a life-long member of the Lutheran Church Missouri-Synod, was known for his steadfast faith and service to his church.

Richard is survived by Elaine, his wife of 55 years; son David and Michelle, daughter Marci and Mike Wilson, son Joel and Jean; 7 grandchildren; and brothers Dewey and Dennis.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Elvira, brother Emmett and sister Lyda.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to benefit Concordia Lutheran Seminary or Hospice of Central Iowa.

Fewson, Robert "Bob" Kelly - Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Fewson, age 64, of Clarinda, Iowa, who died Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Bryan East LGH Medical Center, Lincoln, Nebraska were held Friday, July, 24, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Phil Jorgensen officiating.

Visitation with the family was 5-7 p.m., Thursday, July 23 at the funeral home. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials may be given in his name. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda, Iowa.

Robert Kelly Fewson was born December 11, 1944, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Robert Veighn Fewson and Ruth (Kelly) Fewson. Bob grew up in Lohrville, Iowa and was a graduate of Lohrville High School. He continued his education and graduated from Business School in Omaha, Nebraska. Bob served in the Air Force National Guard, St. Joseph, Missouri for several years. On October 13, 1972, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Warden at Miami, Oklahoma.

Bob worked as an accountant in Omaha and Kansas City before moving to Clarinda in 1975 with his family and starting his own accounting business, Robert Fewson Accounting, Inc. Bob had many interests; he enjoyed fishing especially in lakes, watching car races, dog races and also watching football and golf. A special interest of Bob's was his several aquariums and his many tropical fish. His family was very
important to him and he especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruth; aunt, Marjorie Prather.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marilyn of Clarinda; sons, Jamie Todd and wife Stephanie of Glenwood, Iowa, Ryan Fewson of Clarinda, Iowa and Andy Fewson and wife Haley of Yorktown, Iowa;
grandchildren, Adam, Emily, and Evan Todd, J. R., Payton, and Nevaeh Fewson; aunts; Charlotte Fewson of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Mary Brummett of Clarinda, Iowa; several cousins and many friends.

Bob will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends but the memories will remain in our hearts forever. May God grant comfort and strength to those that mourn his passing.

 

Fisher, Sandra L. Haywood - Sandra L. Fisher, age 47 of Clarinda, Iowa died Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Neb., following a brief illness. Sandra was born May 1, 1962 in Sacramento, Calif., to John Haywood and Joan Mary (Housley) Haywood. Her family moved to Phoenix, Ariz., her senior year of high school.

On April 28, 1988 she married Kennis A. Fisher (formerly of Sidney, Iowa) in Phoenix, Ariz. They moved to Clarinda in the summer of 2002. Sandra worked in the housekeeping department of Good Samaritan Care Center in Villisca, Iowa.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Kennis A. Fisher of Clarinda, Iowa; daughter, Holly Fisher of Clarinda; son, Cody Fisher of Clarinda; 2 sisters, Pauline Haywood-Matheny of Castro Valley, Calif., and Barbara San Miguel of Long Beach, Calif.; brother, Alex Haywood of Phoenix, Ariz.; numerous nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor Bob Smith officiating. There will be no viewing or visitations and interment of ashes will follow in the Sidney, Iowa, Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials will go toward funeral expenses.

 

Francis, Terry Lynne Miller - Funeral services for Terry Francis, age 64, of Clarinda, Iowa, who died Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the Clarinda Regional Health Center after a courageous two year battle with cancer, was held Monday, June 29, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor Leslie Traylor officiating.

Visitation with the family was held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at the Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Clarinda Lied Center. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda, Iowa.

Terry Lynne Francis was born July 12, 1944, at Myrtle Beach, S.C., the daughter of Charles Miller and Kathleene (Magee) Miller. Terry was the eldest child of eight children. She grew up in Gilman City, Missouri and was a graduate of Gilman City High School and of Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, Mo. She was united in marriage, February 4, 1966, at Maryville, Mo., to William Francis. They were blessed with three children, Katrina, Timothy and Todd.

Terry was the receptionist at the Clarinda Lied Center for fourteen years. She also taught water aerobics at the Lied Center. She enjoyed her job and the people there. Terry was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women and the Y Women. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and collecting Beanie Baby Bears, Boyd's Bears and Santas. Terry's family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Left to cherish Terry's memory is her husband, Bill Francis of Clarinda, Iowa; daughter, Katrina Fleharty and husband Joel of Corning, Iowa; sons, Tim Francis and wife Lisa of Portage, Wisc., Todd Francis of Iola, Kan.; grandchildren, Preston and Riley Fleharty, Tyler, Abbey, and Hunter Francis; brothers, Kent Miller and wife Connie of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Dick Miller of St. Joseph, Mo., John Miller and wife Debbie of Bellflower, Calif.; sisters, Janet Mailou and husband Paul of Kempner, Tex., Ruth Hager and husband Randy of Chillicothe, Mo., Louise Bird and husband Joe of Gallatin, Mo., Kathy Keithley and husband Mark of Hong Kong; many nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.

Preceding Terry in death were her parents.

Terry went to be with her Lord June 25, 2009 following a courageous two year battle with cancer. She will be missed by everyone but her love and inspiration will live on through her family. May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn her passing.

 

French, JB - Funeral services for JB French, age 76 of Bedford, who died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska were held Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford.

Visitation was Friday with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. Interment with military rites accorded by the John F. Hardin American Legion Post No. 164 were held in the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford. The family requests memorials be directed to the Ambulance Fund. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.

JB French was born January 19, 1933, in Taylor County, Iowa the son of Harvey French and Louise (Shaffer) French.

He grew up attending rural schools, graduating from the Bedford High School with the Class of 1951. In 1953, JB was drafted into the United States Army where he faithfully served his country during the Korean Conflict. After he was honorably discharged he returned to Taylor County where he began farming. JB continued farming until his retirement in 1995.

In April of 1956, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Elnora Goff. Five children were born to bless their lives, Jack, David, Debbie, Kevin and Sharyl.

After JB's retirement from farming he went to work in Clarinda for the Crawford Auction Company. He was a member of the John F. Hardin American Legion Post No. 164 where he was currently serving as Commander. He was also a member of the Taylor Masonic Lodge No. 156 A.F. & A.M., where he was serving as the Secretary/Treasurer. JB served on the Bedford Community School Board for nine years and he was also currently serving on the Taylor County Board of Supervisors.

JB's true passions in life were farming, friends and especially his family. Although he could occasionally be found on a pond bank with a fishing pole in his hands . . . . or roasting a hot dog and drinking coffee by the campfire!

Left to cherish the memories of JB are his loving wife of 53 years, Elnora French of Bedford; his five children, Jack French and wife Rhonda; David French; Debbie (French) Slough and husband Mark; Kevin French and wife Lisa; and Sharyl (French) Reeve and husband Steve; nine grandchildren, Daniel French and wife Monique; Tammy (French) Kehrberg and husband Frank; Erica (French) Hughs and husband Shawn; Kaitlyn and Skylar French; Tyler and Korey Slough; and Maren and Maura French; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Geri Marie, Evan and Trevor; three brothers, Ed French and wife Bethel; Roy French and wife Joyce; and Paul (Butch) French; two sisters, LaVonne Weller and husband Howard; and JoAnne Perdew and husband Bob; along with many other family members and a community of friends.

Preceding JB in death were his parents Harvey and Louise French; his in-laws Francis and Rosa Goff; a daughter-in-law, Kathy French; one granddaughter, Marilyn Meyers; a brother, Bill French; and two sisters-in-law, Fern French and Nadine French.

JB was a devoted husband, father, steward of the land and community servant. His enthusiasm, humor and insight will be missed by everyone.

 

Fulton, Vivian Arlene Orme - Funeral services for Arlene Fulton, age 90, of Nodaway, Iowa, who died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Good Samaritan Care Center, Villisca, Iowa were held Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Villisca, Iowa with Pastor Gordon Scott officiating. Open visitation was held Friday, May 15 at the Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Villisca Pool Restoration Fund or to the Hospice of Southwest Iowa, Corning, Iowa.

Vivian Arlene Fulton was born December 10, 1918 in Page County, Iowa, the daughter of William Delford Orme and Hettie Jane (Van Alstine) Orme. Arlene attended Orme Country School through the eighth grade. On February 25, 1939 she was united in marriage to Hal Henry Fulton at the Corning Methodist parsonage. They were blessed with three sons, Lee, Darrel and Dale.

Arlene and Hal farmed in the Nodaway area where they raised their family. Arlene was a wonderful cook, known for her pies, brownies, candies, gum drop cake and delicious meals. She had a large vegetable and flower garden and did a lot of canning. Arlene hunted Indian Artifacts and also collected coins and stamps.

She also enjoyed crocheting and sewing and gifted the family with many potholders at Christmas. She was a member of the North Grove Methodist Church and Ladies Aid. Arlene also belonged to the local neighborhood club and the Nodaway Saddle Club and enjoyed riding in the Sidney Rodeo grand entry.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of seventy years, Hal Fulton of Villisca, Iowa; sons, Lee Fulton and wife Shari of Nodaway, Iowa and Darrel Fulton and wife Cathi of Villisca, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Jodi and Steve Haer, Jeff and Kristie Fulton, Shona and Clint Means, Jill Fulton and fianc� Joel Mahr, Chad Fulton, Kadee and Shane Myers and Laci and Brian Schafer; ten great grandchildren, Amanda and Brett Fulton, Morganne, Lexie and Maggie Haer, Kelsey and Tyler Means, Tallen and Cade Myers and Kase Schafer; sister, Phyllis Miller and husband Donnie of Clarinda, Iowa; brother, Charlie Orme and wife Shirley of Clarinda, Iowa; sister-in-law, Norma Orme of Northboro, Iowa; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Preceding Arlene in death were her parents; son, Dale Fulton; brothers, Marvin, Bus, Homer, Clifford; sisters, Mae, Thelma and Amy.

Arlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother; and will be missed, but her love and inspiration will live on through her family. May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn Arlene's passing.

 

Fults, Irene Marie Walker - Irene Marie Fults was born July 6, 1916 between Clearmont and Hopkins, Missouri, the daughter of William Marcellus and Dora Ellen (Golay) Walker. She entered into rest November 11, 2009 at Carriage Square Health Care Center in St. Joseph, Missouri at the age of 93.

Irene was the youngest of six children. She enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables. Irene also did some babysitting while in Clarinda. In December 2002 she moved to St. Joseph, Missouri with her daughter, Marilyn.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Guy Fults; sisters Nellie Elrod and husband Bert; Ethel Drain and husband Everett; Nancy Brain and husband Emmet; Iva Whipp; brother Donald Walker and wife Helen.

Irene is survived by daughter Marilyn Winger of St. Joseph, Missouri, grandson Jason Winger and wife Helen of St. Joseph, Missouri; great-grandsons Donald and Zachary Winger of St. Joseph, Missouri; brother-in-law Paul Whipp of Wichita, Kansas and many other family and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 16, 2009 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel with John Cocomise officiating. Interment was at the Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to a fund established in her name. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel provided arrangements. www.EFC.cc.
Farwell, Ruby Louise Racine - Ruby Louise Farwell, daughter of George Hugh and Ethel Marguerite (Howrey) Racine, was born on March 4, 1925 at her grandmother’s house in Coin, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, October 3, 2005 at Garden View Care Center at the age of 80.

Raised south of Shenandoah on the family farm, Ruby attended public school in Shenandoah. She graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1942. Following graduation, Ruby attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school three years at Lone Rock School in Page County and three years in Sidney, Iowa, teaching 5th grade.

On May 28, 1949, Ruby was united in marriage to Jack D. Farwell. Following their marriage they farmed near Hamburg until moving to a farm west of Essex in 1960. In 1977, Jack and Ruby converted a portion of their farmland into the Essex Golf Course. In 1993, they moved into Shenandoah. Ruby was a member of the Essex Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder and received Honorary Life Membership of the Presbyterian Women. She was also active in the Church Circle. Ruby loved baking and cooking. She was known in Shenandoah as the “Pie Woman”, since winning the pie baking contest in the Shenandoah Septemberfest.

Preceding Ruby in death were her parents and her husband, Jack, in August of 2004. She is survived by her son, Mike Farwell of Villisca, IA; two daughters, Carol Franks and her husband Danny of Essex, IA and Jackie Johnson of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial services were held on Thursday, October 6, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. the Essex Presbyterian Church. Words of comfort were given by the Rev. Rick Sleyster. Organist was Margaret Woods. Dean Adkins sang "He Touched Me" and "It Is No Secret", accompanied by Kris Adkins. Attending the register book were Vivian Walker and Arlene Tackett. Caring for the flowers were Virginia Frank, Marcene Johnson, Patty Johnson and Eleanor Sligar. Ushers were Glenn Confer and George Ross. Inurnment was in the Essex Cemetery. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
 

Josephine Fields, 78, daughter of Louis and Nola (Merrifield) Nash was born Feb 17, 1916, at Red Oak, Iowa. She died after a sudden illness at St Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Neb., on Sunday, Sept 25, 1994.

She had lived all of her life in Red Oak, Iowa. She was a graduate of Red Oak High School and Northwest Missouri State Teachers College. She was united in marriage to Harry L. Fields on Feb 15, 1941, at Red Oak. She worked for Carder and Kurtenback Insurance for 21 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of St Mary's Catholic church in Red Oak, and a member of the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband on Nov 20, 1974.

Josephine is survived by three sons, Robert L. Fields of St Louis, Mo., Harry L. Fields of Hampton, N.H., and Joseph W. Fields of Oneida, Tenn., 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept 28, 1994, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sellergren-Lindell Funeral Home. Father John Kautsky will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak. A rosary will be held Tuesday night at 7 p.m. with visitation to follow at Sellergren-Lindell Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the St Mary's Catholic church or the rescue Unit. MRS. KATIE FIDLER DIES SEPTEMBER 15

Mrs. Katie [Catherine Ines Hutson]  Fidler, 81, a long time Athelstan resident, died in San Diego, Calif., last Saturday. Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Fri.) at 2:00 p.m. in the Athelstan Community Church. Burial will be in the Hawleyville cemetery.

Obituary - F. S. Fidler

Fred Simpson Fidler, son of Charles B. [luford] and Dolly T. [hear] Fidler, was born March 28, 1878 in Nodaway County, near Maryville, Missouri, and died January 19, 1955, at his home in Athelstan at the age of 70 years, nine months, 21 days.

The family moved to Iowa, locating near Hawleyville, where he grew to manhood. He was married to [Catherine] Katie Inis Hutson in Clarinda, August 24, 1898, To them five sons were born: Edily, who died in infancy; Elmer Virgil, who died at the age of 14 years; Dewey Donald Fidler of Athelstan; Otha Paul Fidler of Las Angeles, Calif.; Dale [Kenneth] Fidler of San Diego, Calif.

Besides the three living sons, Mr. Fidler leaves two grandchildren: Mrs. Donna Deepe of Bruning, Nebr., Denzel Fidler of Kansas City; three great grandchildren, Jim, Dale and Janet Deepe of Bruning, Nebr.; one brother, Donald Fidler of Villisca; two sisters, Mrs. Gertie Coon and Mrs. Fariba Owen both of Boulder, Colo.; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Dewey Fidler of Athelstan, Mrs. Dale Fidler of San Diego, Calif.

Mr. Fidler moved to Athelstan about 40 years ago and has served in various community capacities for many years.

About 15 years ago he accepted Christ as his Savior, but never united with any church.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Robt. M. Peters Jan. 21 at Athelstan with burial at Hawleyville.
