Foster, Sarah J. Clapper Quivey - Mrs Sarah J. Foster died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Henry Swisher, six miles south of town [Page County, Iowa], Thursday morning at nine o'clock.

The funeral was from the residence Friday morning at ten o'clock, Rev L.B. Carpenter of Nodaway officiating.

The decedent was born near Albany, New York, November 20, 1823, being at the time of her death 79 years, 4 months and 19 days of age. She was married to William H. Quivey January 1 1844, and to this union were born five children, all of whom survive. Their names follow: Mrs Henry Swisher of North Grove, Mrs A.C. Wolf of Drayton, North Dakota, Mrs John Robinson, of Chadwick, Illinois, George Quivey of Waterloo, and Israel B., of Omaha. The daughter from whose home the funeral occurred and a son, Israel B., of Omaha, were the only children who were able to attend the obsequies.

The father of these children died in 1854 and the mother was married to John Foster who died several years ago. For the past twenty years the mother has made her home among her children. She had been a sufferer with la grippe for three weeks, and that, together with old age, caused her death.

She became a christian at the tender age of sixteen years, living faithfully to her vows, and had expressed her willingness to part this life and join her Redeemer. The body was shipped to Milledgeville, Illinois, for interment beside her first husband, the daughter, Mrs Swisher, accompanying the remains. VILLISCA REVIEW, Villisca, Iowa, Apr 15, 1903

Orme, William Henry - Another one of Page county's old pioneers passed away. Uncle William Henry as he was familiarly known, had the rare distinction of living on the same farm, two miles south of the North Grove church, for seventy-four years.

Thus he saw the developments and improvement of what was a vast prairie when he came to this community. Looking into the future and feeling the need of religious training and education for not only his own children and grandchildren, but also the children of the settlers who would come later, he took an active part in the building and maintaining of the churches and schools of his community.

At the outbreak of the Civil War he had a desire to go to the front and defend the Union, and his flag, but owing to a physical disability he could not pass the medical examination.

He was united in marriage to Myrtle Hollis on December 31, 1902. There were no children but they reared a nephew Donald Swisher, who made his home with them from childhood.

He was converted and united with the North Grove Methodist church in his boyhood days later in July 1927 he transferred his membership to the Methodist church. He loved his Master and was vitally interested in his church. He was a member of the Board of Trustees and teacher of a Sunday school class at the time of his departure in fact, it was while teaching his class Sunday morning that he was stricken. He never regained consciousness. That morning he was in the best of spirits and seemed to be in his usual good health. While it was a severe shock to his loved ones and to the entire community to be called so suddenly yet it was a beautiful way to go while on his post of duty in the service of his church and his Lord whom he loved.

Harry Swisher was a highly respected and worthy citizen. He was always interested in the highest and best. Swisher, Mima Quivey

"Like a sunset of the northern clime, when twilight lingers in the summer time and fades at last into the silent night," the beautiful spirit of Mrs W.H. Swisher went from earth to the Heavenly home Feb 3, 1934, after an illness of only a few days. Just two weeks to the day before her departure she had expressed her which to an old friend that "she was homesick for heaven." "For her no slow decline, no long delay--God knew the signal hour, the better way, and called her home while it was day."

Mima Quivey Swisher was born in Wayne county, New York, Oct 26, 1844, and passed away in Clarinda, Iowa, at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 8 days. She was of pioneer stock. When she was less than one year old, her parents moved to Carroll county, Illinois. She inherited from her parents those fine traits of christian character that made her a wife, mother and neighbor beloved. She grew to womanhood amid the pioneer surroundings of Illinois. Her education was secured through the public schools at Mt Morris college. She was not only a student of books but a lover of children, who in return loved her. She loved to teach and was a public school teacher for seven years before her marriage. One desire of her life was that her children might be teachers, and this desire was realized in several of her children, four of whom are now teachers in Sunday schools.

On Nov 18, 1868, she was united in marriage to William H. Swisher of Franklin county, Pennsylvania, at Milligevill, Ill. In the following spring, 1869, this young couple came to Page county and settled on the farm where they have since made their home. They came as far as Afton by train, which was at that time the end of the railroad. They came the rest of the way overland and were among the first settlers of this community.

Mrs Swisher was converted and united with the church when a girl of 16 years. She was a charter member of the North Grove church and was a devout and faithful christian until the end. Her home was a "haven of refuge" to early circuit riders of the church; in fact, it was home to all who needed a friend. She was a devoted wife, loving and tender mother. She filled a place of influence in the community. Her talent most prominently observed by all who knew her, was the sweet spirit and loving graces of which nature had so beautifully bestowed, together with the gentle courage always to do right. This won her a place of esteem among all her acquaintances. Her home was a place of love and cheer. Visitors were welcomed by her in that gracious manner so becoming to fine womanhood. This community weeps for one of its most noble examples of christian character, one whose ideals came near perfection, and whose daily life and humble ministry was a reflection of her Lord. As a neighbor and friend, she spared no strength in doing the little things, yet the needful, which add to much comfort to the home where sickness or sorrow has come.

Mr Swisher preceded her in death in 1908, but 7 children, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends remain to mourn her going. The children are W.C. Swisher and Mrs R.O. Owen of Clarinda, H.E. Swisher and Mrs W.A. Reed of Hepburn, Mrs D.R. Patterson of Arkansas City, Kans., Mrs Carl Bentley of Broadwater, Nebr, and Miss Mary Swisher at home.

The flower girls were Mrs Ned Farrens, Mrs Allen Gossett, Thelma Bennett and Maxine Swisher, and the pallbearers were Robert Mullen, Lou Reed, George Dunn, Johnnie McCoy, Bird Dunn and Ed Day.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr and Mrs D.R. Patterson of Arkansas City, Kans., Mr and Mrs Carl Bentley of Broadwater, Nebr, Mrs J.B. Quivey and Mrs Will Quivey of Omaha, Nebr., Clyde Reed of Norfolk, Nebr, Mr and Mrs Eugene Owen of Creston, Ia, and Mrs Cal Snodgrass and Mrs Elsie Wiggins of Yorktown, Ia. Wilson, George H. - George H. Wilson of near Guss, who has been suffering with typhoid fever for the past few weeks, died last Wednesday afternoon. The funeral was held from the North Grove church last Friday afternoon at two o'clock and the remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. Rev Bolster of this city officiated.

Mr and Mrs Wilson came to Iowa about 18 years ago and located near Emerson, and since that time they have lived in different parts of the state. To them eight children were born, two of whom died in infancy. The remaining ones are Elsie, Jesse, Lulu, Freddie, Robert and Vesta, the youngest being but two years of age. Mr Wilson was a kind father and husband and was respected by all who knew him. He was sick when the house in which the family were living, burned a couple of weeks ago and the exposure then made his illness more serious. The afflicted family, which is now deprived of its only means of support, has the deepest sympathy of the public. VILLISCA REVIEW, Villisca, Iowa, Mar 6, 1901 Wednesday
