Mr Dunmire came as an infant of seven weeks with his parents, to Coin vicinity, more than eight-seven years ago. They located at Snow Hill, moving into Coin when the town was started. For many years Mr Dunmire was the respected blacksmith, retiring only when compelled to do so by old age.

J.B. Dunmire was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs S.D. Dunmire. He was born September 7, 1857, in southern Minnesota, and was seven weeks old when brought to Page county. The trip to Iowa was made with an oxen team. On their arrival here the parents purchased land and always had a home in this county.
Mr Dunmire, the eldest and last survivor of twelve children, passed away at his home in Coin February 7, 1944 [sic, 1945]. In early life he received what schooling was available in rural schools at that period. His education did not end at the close of his schooling, as he read very extensively and was an unusually well-informed man. Being deaf since early manhood, he could not enter into conversation and so took great pleasure in books and magazines.
He early learned the trade as a blacksmith and established a shop in Coin. In 1881 he was married to Anna Jane Woodworth and they moved into the house that was to be their home together for sixty-two and a half years.
Mrs Dunmire passed away May 13, 1944, after a long illness. Mr Dunmire was confined to his bed a suffering invalid, for two years and two months.
Three children were born to Mr and Mrs Dunmire, Mrs Golda Hunt, Ed B. Dunmire and Myrtle V. Kemery, who passed away in 1930. Hunt in Los Angeles, Capt Paul E. Hunt with the 607th Field Artillery, and John B. Kemery, infantry, at Ft Roberts in Arkansas. Mr Dunmire was very happy over the arrival of three great-grandchildren, Michael and David Hunt, and John Barton Kemery, who carried the name of his great-grandfather and is the son of John Kemery.
Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev S.M. Morrow assisted by Rev K.E. Nesbitt. Both pastors were faithful friends of Mr Dunmire, who has been baptized in the Baptist church when a very young man and had never transferred his membership. During the time he could hear he attended both local churches. Mrs William Hynes sang two hymns, "Abide With Me" and "Rock of Ages". The pallbearers were the same friendly neighbors who served for Mrs Dunmire's funeral in May, Hallie Ellis, Mr Carmichael, Mr Winger, Mr Allen, Mr Weaver and Mr VanDuzer. The friends who had been so faithful to the deceased, Mrs Lee Mannasmith, Mrs Glen Fox, Mrs Warren VanDuzor and Mrs Jennie Hullman, cared for the many floral gifts. Mr Dunmire left many other devoted relatives and friends besides those mentioned.

Shipley, Bill D. - Bill D. Shipley, 61, passed away November 20th, 2020. He was born January 24th, 1959, in Corning, Iowa, the son of Malcolm A. and Emma Jeanne (March) Shipley. He grew up on the farm in the Nodaway, Iowa with his family and 3 brothers. He enjoyed wonderful childhood memories there raising sheep, hogs, and cattle. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing and anything to do with the outdoors throughout his entire life.
Bill graduated from Villisca High School, Class of 1977. As a child he was active in cub scouts and Boy Scouts. He played football, trumpet, and tuba in the band along with being very active in the Reno Smith FFA Chapter. He was especially proud of his FFA Conduct of Meetings team which received a Gold at State competition. He received his Iowa FFA Farmer Degree in 1977. Following high school graduation, he attended Southwestern Community College and graduated with a degree in Farm Management. After college, he married his high school sweetheart, Diane (Herzberg) Shipley, and they settled just north of Nodaway, Iowa and shortly after moved to the house and farm they still reside in today. They celebrated 38 years of marriage in August. Married Aug. 14, 1982. Bill and Diane raised their family on the farm north of Nodaway. They were blessed with three children: Kyle, Alyssa, and Trever. With Bill’s help and encouragement all three kids were in FFA and Adams County 4H with many livestock projects. Bill received the Adams County Young Farmer’s Award in 1997.
Bill was a very active member of the community and served as the Adams County Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner for 19 years, serving as Chairman from 2002 to 2017, and became Vice Chair 2017 to current. He also was an Adams County Conservation Board member holding all the offices over the 12 years he served. He was instrumental in building the cabins, cottages and new shop at Lake Icaria and other improvements. He was a true conservationist. He was Director of District 7 on the Iowa Soybean Association board for 8 years and was President (2017) and President-elect (2016) and was currently an active board member. He was a leader and promoter of agriculture all over the world during this time and believed in the importance of establishing relationships with other countries as he hosted and toured many different groups from other countries, traveled extensively, making friends all over the world. He was also an active member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and served as officer and elder there, in addition to being an active member of the FFA Alumni at Villisca. Bill was the Nodaway Cemetery Manager/Caretaker for 15 years, past Nodaway Fireman, United Mercantile Coop Board member, Blue jay Booster’s Club, Pork Producers, Adams County Fair Board and countless other area board and committees over the years.
Bill started his lifelong pursuit and passion of farming in 1979 in the Nodaway area. He helped many local farmers while growing his own operation. His operation grew to encompass hogs, corn, soybeans, cattle, and hay as well, in addition to providing custom work for local area farmers including his family. He took over the Pioneer Seed Dealership from his father and sold Pioneer seed for many years. Bill continued to expand and grow his operation over the decades, by being a savvy businessman and farmer, and eventually was able to include his sons Trever for the past 10 years and Kyle in more recent years, who both had developed a strong passion for agriculture since they were little growing up on the farm helping their dad. He loved helping raise show pigs with his son Trever and was instrumental in all those successes at county, state, and national shows. He received the Iowa Farm Environmental Leader Award in July 2016 for his conservation practices on his farms, as he was dedicated to farming the ground in a responsible and sustainable way, including being one of the very first area farmers to practice no-till farming in the early 90s in which we still do today.
Bill was not only a great person, but a cherished husband, beloved father, and an awesome grandfather. He did everything with his kids, from braiding his daughter’s hair before school to helping the boys make their Boy Scout derby cars. You could guarantee to see Bill and Diane sitting together at every school function the kids participated in no matter what. He also supported his daughter’s interests in 4H, love of animals, and the arts. Bill recently spent a lot of his time dedicated to teaching his grandkids. He could never give enough ranger, combine and tractor rides. Always made time to take his kids fishing and carried on the tradition with the grandkids. He had many memories raising pigs and created many more with his son, Trever. With the two of them finding so much joy sharing the newly born piglets with the grandkids to get a bucketful of giggles.
He also enjoyed driving his Dodge Challenger convertible from high school in the local parades. It was the car he drove when Bill and Diane went on their first date. He kept it all these years. On March 9, 1979 he was united in marriage to his best friend and life long companion, Shari Wiesen at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah. He enjoyed his work and the many friendships he established. Mike was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Fremont County 4-H Board where he enjoyed dedicating his extra time.

Wells, Roger Lawrence - Roger Wells, 81, of Yorktown, Iowa entered into peace Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at the Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 19,2020 at Villisca Advent Christian Church, Villisca, Iowa with Pastor Jeff Eason officiating. Visitation will be held 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday, December 18, 2020 at the Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa.
Roger Lawrence Wells was born to Paul Wells and Dorthy (Pierce) Wells on June 4th, 1939 in Los Angeles, California, but he spent most of his life in Southwest Iowa where he attended and was a graduate of Farragut High School. In 1958 he met, fell in love, and married his wife, Evelyn (Snyder) Wells in the Farragut Methodist Church on April 26, 1958.
The two quickly started a family with the birth of Kathryn Wells and 3 years later, Rodney Wells. While raising a family he worked at the Donut Stop Bakery in Shenandoah, IA and next, Sally Ann Bakery in Clarinda, IA and also moved to Yorktown, IA. Between the two bakeries he spent 18 years of his life working with dough. After the bakery closed, he started the next 20 years of working at Eaton Corporation in Shenandoah, IA in quality control, where he quickly advanced to the position of supervisor over multiple departments. For many years he also cleaned houses with his wife, Evelyn, over the years in the Clarinda area. Lastly, he and Evelyn started their own catering company, Wells Catering, in 1994. He was known for his pies with the perfect meringue on top and made from scratch home meals they shared with the communities in southwest Iowa. When it came to making pies, he definitely had perfection to it, and each added touch showed just how much he cared. His easy going, always smiling attitude and personality was loved by many employees and employers throughout his years of service to the workforce. He continued to make pies throughout the rest of his 81 years, up until the day he went into the nursing home to be with his wife in November of 2020. Roger and Evelyn were married for 62 years and only apart during 6 months in 2020 due to the covid virus, which was very hard for both of them.
While spending his last month at the nursing home, his family members were told that they “spoiled” Roger quite a bit with their cooking, baking, and items brought into the nursing home for his enjoyment. But, there was no amount of spoiling that could make up for all of the giving that he gave his entire life to those less fortunate, widowed, or in need. There are countless amounts of people who have endured the generosity and kindness over the years, and Roger, most definitely shared the love of Jesus Christ to others through his gift of giving.
Roger, at a young age, learned about Jesus Christ from his grandmother, who took him to Sunday school and church. She introduced him to the Bible and showed him the love he needed to become the Christ-centered Christian man through studying the Bible. His love for his family and his Creator above were no secret.
In Roger’s “free time” he enjoyed cheering on his Huskers, win or lose, being outdoors, where he loved to bird hunt, deer hunt, and go fishing. He was also a member of the Clarinda Saddle Club and raised horses for many years as his children were growing up. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and continued to love the life that God had created for him.
Roger was preceded in death by his Dad- Paul, Mother- Dorthy, Father-in-law- Forrest Snyder, Mother-in-law- Lucille Snyder, Brother-in-law- Paul Snyder, Great granddaughter- Lexxus Crooks, Sister-In-Law- Margaret Snyder and Brother-in-law- Donovan Michel.
Roger leaves behind his Wife- Evelyn Wells of Clarinda, IA, Sister- Karen Michel of Northboro, IA, Brothers -in-law- Frank Snyder of Clarinda, IA and Dale Snyder Long Beach, CA. Children- Kathryn (Kathy) Wells of Clarinda, IA, Rodney Wells and wife Elva of Sioux Center, IA. Grandchildren- Melissa Crooks and husband Adam of Clarinda, IA, Rachel Cabeen and husband Michael of Yorktown, IA, Michael Wells of Shenandoah, IA, Andrew Smith and wife Stacey of Braddyville, IA. Great-Grandchildren- Gage Crooks, Lilly Smith, Jazmine Crooks, Macen Smith, Mark Cabeen, Kaytryn (Kayty) Cabeen, and Archer Smith. It was Roger’s prayer that all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren would know and love the Lord, Jesus, as their savior and continue to do His work of showing the love of Christ throughout their lives to others

Werth, Carol Maxine Muller - Carol Maxine (Muller) Werth, 78, was welcomed home to heaven on 11/25/2020. She was born on February 21, 1942 in Shenandoah, IA to Walter and Elsie Muller. Carol and her siblings were raised on the family farm outside of Yorktown, IA. She attended a one room schoolhouse in Yorktown during her elementary years and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1960. Her love of children led her to Concordia College where she earned her degree in Elementary Education.
Her first teaching job was in North Tonawanda, NY. It was here that she met her future husband David Werth. They were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown, IA on July 15, 1967. Two children were born during their time in North Tonawanda, a daughter DeAnn and a son, Mark.
The family moved to Omaha in 1970. Carol taught preschool at St. Paul Lutheran in Omaha until the family moved to Clarinda, IA in 1982. While living in Clarinda, Carol started a preschool program at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Dave and Carol returned to Omaha in 1988 where she taught a few more years before retiring.
Faith, family, friends. Anyone who knew Carol knew her love for Jesus. Her greatest wish was for all people to know Jesus and the salvation that comes to those who believe. Carol lived her life with her eyes on the Lord. Isaiah 40:31 was a favorite and often quoted verse, “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” Time spent with family always put a smile on Carol’s face. Holiday gatherings weren’t the same without a game of Apples to Apples, UNO Attack or spoons (for some reason she always ended up with more than 4 cards in her hand). She was a friend to all and would talk to anyone, always making them feel welcome. She loved flowers (lilacs and irises being her favorite), reading, and watching baseball and hockey on TV (especially if it was the Yankees or the Penguins).
Carol is survived by her children DeAnn Karg (Scott), Mark Werth (Angie), grandchildren Austin, Kourtney, and Karissa, sister Delores Kriegler (Chuck), brother in law’s, sister in law’s, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding her in death were her husband David Werth, brother Lloyd Muller, parents Walter and Elsie Muller.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 8th at 10:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2463 State Hwy 2, Clarinda, IA 51632. Ritchie Funeral Home.
