Adams, William D.
William Dean "Bill" Adams, 64 of Red Oak, was born Oct 3,1931 in Braddyville to Leonard M.and Adeline M.(Livengood) Adams.
He died after a brief illness on Thursday, April 11, 1996 at MontgomeryCounty Memorial Hospital, Red Oak.
Adams attended school at Coin and Red Oak. He had lived in Red Oak since 1943. He married Roberta Johnston Feb. 17, 1978 at Red Oak.
Adams served his country in the US Air Force. He was a carpenter most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, two sisters and a grandson.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta, Red Oak; sons, Richard D. Adams, Marquette, Ne; Mark A Adams, Stanton; Steven S. Adams, Hueytown, Al.; daughters, Susan and John Tignor, Grand Island Ne.; Sharon and Jim Hadden, Red Oak; Valerie Newkirk, Ft Collins, Co.; Carmen and Darrin Rooker, Red Oak; 11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren.
Also surviving are brothers, Richard Adams and Don Adams, both of Red Oak; Leonard Adams, Jr., Ft Myers, FL; sisters, Karen and Cecil Clark, Hastings; Janice and Arthur Jensen, Johnston, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 13 at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Montgomery County Court of Honor or Montgomery County Memorial Hospital.

Annan, George K.
George K. Annan, 80 of rural Yorktown, died Sunday, March 10, 1996 at Methodist Hospital, Omaha, . Ne.
He was born Oct. 28, 1915 near Yorktown, the son of Earl and Nina
Loy Annan. He married Elsie Wilson Jan. 14, 1940.
The couple has farmed in the Yorktown area since their marriage.
Annan served over 30 years in soil conservation work at the county, regional and state levels. He was a longtime member of the Clarinda Lions Club.
Annan was a member of the
Yorktown United Methodist Church most of his life. After the church closed, the Annans attended Trinity Presbyterian Church, Clarinda.
Annan is survived by his wife, Elsie, of the home; children, Karen and Fred Eitzen, Reedsburg, Wi.; Cynthia and Dennis Bryant, Ft. Knox, Ky.; Rodney and Colleen Annan, Overland Park, Ks.; 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother, Melvin Annan, Coin; sisters, Fern Steigerwald, Fallbrook, Ca.; and Irene Moore, Boonville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jack Alan in infancy; and grandson, Kirk Kenneth Eitzen.
Funeral services were Wednesday, March 13 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Clarinda, with Rev. Roy Fox officiating. Burial was in Polsley Cemetery, Yorktown.
Memorials may be directed to Clarinda Municipal Hospital or the organ fund at Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Bagley, Patience R. -
Patience Ruth Bagley, 90, Maryville, formerly of Elmo, Missouri, died Sunday, January 05, 2014, at Golden Living Center, Maryville.
Patience was born April 1, 1923, in Maryville, Missouri. Her parents were Floyd Marcus and Margaret Ruth (Hopper) Bagley. They lived in Leoti, Kansas, but Margaret came to her parents in Maryville to have the baby because of the distance to the Hospital in Kansas.
She was precededed in death by her parents, and her three year old sister Frances Marilla Bagley. The family moved to Elmo, Missouri in 1931.
Patience graduated from Elmo High School in 1941. She went to Maryville and took a county test and taught school the next year in the rural grade school, Union Grove that was located directly across the road from her parent's home. She attended Northwest Missouri State Univeristy for two years and South West Missouri State University for one year and later graduated from Colorado State University at Greeley, Colorado. Patience was a teacher, retiring after 32 years in the teaching profession, having taught at Elmo, Jewelsburg, Colorado, Mitchell, Nebraska, Clearmont, Missouri, Albany, Missouri and Union Star, Missouri where she spent twenty five years.
Patience was a lifetime member of the Elmo United Methodist Church, where after retirement she taught Adult Sunday School Class for many years. She had also served four years as President of United Methodist Women. Other groups included the Missouri Teachers Association and Missouri Retired Teachers Association, and the Nodaway County Historical Society.
Survivors include several cousins, one of which is Wayne (Dixie) James, Elmo, Missouri.

Baker, Roger D.
Roger D. Baker, 44 of Omaha, Ne., formerly of Vilhsca and Clarinda, died suddenly Friday, March 29, 1996 while at work in Omaha. He was born Oct. 20, 1951 at Clarinda, the son of Maynard Joe and Agnes Dixon Baker. He married Tanya Grantz June 23, 1989.
The couple had recently moved from Villisca to Omaha where he was working for Merchants Home Delivery.
Survivors include his wife, Tanya, of the home; children, Maynard J. Baker, New Market; Eric W. Baker, Alabama; Kelly D. Baker, Clarinda; Jamison L. Baker, Clarinda; Adam Baker and Antonio S. Baker, of the home. There are five grandchildren.
Also surviving are his mother, Agnes LaFaver, Clarinda; brothers and sisters, Leota M. Wagaman, Glenwood; Ruth Hoyt, Clarinda; Grace Aldridge, Waverly, Va.; Mike Baker, Coin; Jack Baker, Clarinda.
He was preceded in death by his father; two daughters, Carrie and Robin; sisters, Karen S. Selby and Betty J. Lawger.

Bennett, Merle
Merle Bennett died Dec. 27, 1995 in Mesa, Az., at the age of 81. He was a former resident of Northboro. Burial will be in Farragut at a later date.
Bennett is survived by his wife, Irene; son, Richard Bennett, Ankeny; daughter, Bonnie, Cedar Rapids; sisters, Mary Sunderman, Clarinda; Dorothy Huisman, Marshalltown; Betty Bicking, Cedar Creek, Ne., friends and relatives.

Bix, Orpha L. Ogden
Orpha L. Bix, 77 of New Market, died Saturday, Jan. 13,1996 at Good Samaritan Care Center, Villisca, were she had been a resident for the past three months.
She was born Nov. 11, 1918 at McPaul, the daughter of William B. and Edna Chom Ogden. She married William Bix July 12, 1941.
Bix was a nurses aide at Clarinda's MHI before her retirement.
She is survived by her husband, Bill, of the home; three children, Barbara Jean and Gerald Overman, Fayetteville, NC; Gary D.and Janet Bix,Westerville, Ohio; Nancy K. and Gary Collins, Lee's Sinnmit, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and brother, William Ogden, Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Emma Durlacher.

Black, Ross Elmer
Ross Black, 86, of Clarinda died Sunday evening at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital where he had been since Friday. Ross was born January 7, 1910 at Clarinda, la. The son of Elmer Ellsworth and Permelia Evelyn (Stevenson) Black. He was married to Verna May Osborn on July 5, 1933. Together they lived and farmed in the. Braddyville, la. area. Ross had also been a bus driver for the South Page School District. Ross and Verna moved to Clarinda in the fall of 1978. They first had a home on West Washington and later moved into a condo on Garfield Street. Ross has been a resident at Community Care Center since July of 1994.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Verna, in 1991 and 4 brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. John Duling officiating. Burial was in the Maple Hill Cemetery at College Springs, la. Blume, Gerald R.
Gerald Richard Blume, son of Edward and Minnie Sophia Meyer Blume, was born Nov. 22,1925 on a farm near Clarinda.
He was inducted into the United States Army Sept. 20, 1950. He served in Germany, and was honorably discharged Aug. 15,1952. He returned to Clarinda.
On May 10, 1953, Blume married Bonnie Mae Fouch in Rippey. He was a Morman Feed Salesman in Clarinda before moving to Jefferson in 1956.
For 27 years, he was a US Postal Carrier in Jefferson, retiring in 1988. He also farmed near Rippey and Jefferson.
He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jefferson, and served in various positions including elder and trustee. Blume was also a member of the Jefferson Kiwanis and the VFW.
On Sept. 26, 1995, Blume married Vi Lowmiller, of Jefferson. They spent the winter in Arizona and traveled to visit their children.
Blume died March 6,1996 in Omaha, Ne., at the age of 70.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years, Bonnie; and his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Vi, Jefferson; daughters, Candice Blume, Milford Ct; Brenda and Terrence Kane, Carrollton, Texas; Karla and Brian Eden, Frisco, Texas; two grandsons; sister, Allene and Elmer Wagoner, Clarinda; brothers, Edward Blume, Monrovia, Ca.; Lawrence Blume and Victor Blume, both of Clarinda; nieces and nephews.
Blume is also survived by Vi's three children and their families, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Bownes, Ettie M. Older -
Mrs Thomas (Ettie M) Bownes, 86, of Clarinda died Thursday afternoon at her home at 414 W Grant St.
She was born Dec 14, 1885, near Blockton, la, the daughter of William and Jane Fursey Older. In 1903 she was married to Thomas Bownes at Grant City, Mo. They farmed in the Tabor and Thurman communities before moving to Clarinda 25 years ago.
Mrs Bownes is survived by her husband of the home and three children, Mabel Biggerstaff and Vilas Bownes of Clarinda, and Mrs Dale (Viola) Elmore of Seattle, Wash. There are 16 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. A brother Jay Older lives at Kearney, Mo. A son Verl preceded her in death in 1941.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Walker Funeral Home with the Rev Earl Melton and the Rev Jack DuBrava officiating. Grace Johnson was soloist and Aletha Hutchings organist. Flower bearers were Linda Williamson, Maria Reusch, Kathy Rosewall and Lori Rosewall.

Brownfield, Jeanitta (Larsen) daughter of Harold and Maxine (Hookham) Larson, was born July 28,1945 at Bedford. She died March 18,1996 at Clarkson Hospital,
Omaha, Ne., at the age of 50.
Brownfield grew up in southwest lowa
and northwest Missouri. She lived a major
part of her life in Blanchard, and had been
employed in housekeeping at Shenandoah
Memorial Hospital for seven years.

Cabbage, Clara Mason
Clara Cabbage, 89, formerly of New Market, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 1995 at the home of her daughter, Janet McClarnon, Joplin, Mo.
She was born Oct. 1, 1906 at Aliceville, Ks., the daughter of Clarence Edward and Nellie Mae Pace Mason. Most of her life was spent in Page and Taylor counties.
She taught in rural schools and at Bedford Community School before her retirement. When her health failed, she made her home with her daughter, Carol Thornburg, Mississippi, later moving to Joplin. In January 1995, she moved to the McClarnon home.
On Aug. 11, 1926, she married Orval B. Cabbage, who died in 1986.
Survivors include children: Carol Thornburg, Clarinda; Thaine Cabbage, Clarinda; Don Cabbage, Horsham, Pa.; Keith Cabbage, Bridgewater; Janet McClarnon, Joplin. There are 17 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

Casey, Hellen Irene McAlister
Hellen Irene Casey, 91 of Clarinda, died Tuesday, March 5,1996 at Indian Hills Care Center, Council Bluffs, where she had been since Friday.
She had moved there from Clarinda to be close to her daughter, Rosemary.
Casey was born March 1, 1905 at Seymour, the daughter of Charles and Lula O'Neal McAlister. She was along time resident of Clarinda. She married Wilbur M. Casey June 16, 1923. He preceded her in death June 20, 1954.
Casey was in charge of the sewing room at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute before her retirement.
Survivors include daughter, Rosemary and Dwayne Overholtzer, Council Bluffs; four grandsons; six great grandchildren; brother, Victor McAlister, Saratoga, Wy.; sister-in-law, May Bishop, Clarinda.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Wilbur; son, Charles Robert Casey in 1977; sister, Charlotte McAlister Janssen in 1995.

Castle, John Link -
Final rites for John (Link) Castle, 84, were held from Hackett Funeral Home on Thursday. Mr. Castle died at Hand Community Hospital on February 7, 1972.
Words of comfort were offered by the Rev. Howard 0. Wakelin. Jack Baxter, soloist, was accompanied by Mrs. Margaret Woods at the organ.
Casket bearers were J.C. Bonwell, Wayne Brush, Jack Henshaw, Russell Jensen, James Lynn and Max Wolford.
Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
John Henry (Link) Castle, son of George H. and Ella Gertrude Swigart Castle, was born in Shenandoah on November 19, 1887, and departed this life in Hand Community Hospital, Shenandoah, on February 7, 1972, at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 18 days. He had entered the Garden View Care Center on January 19.
Link's parents were early Shenandoah pioneers, moving here in the 1860's.
In 1911 he was united in marriage with Alice Aldrich. To this union were born four sons and one daughter.
Link farmed in the Shenandoah area until the time of his retirement. He was an avid sportsman and athlete, and loved to hunt and fish.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters. Left to cherish his memory are his
four sons, Rex Castle of Riverton; Dale Castle and Jay Castle of Shenandoah and Wayne Castle of Orange, Texas; his daughter Mrs. Judson (Vivian) Doke, of Portland, Oregon: two brothers, Edwin of Shenandoah and Curtis of Abilene, Texas; two sisters, Nellie Jones and Pansy Yates of Miami, Florida; a foster son, George Free, who was reared in the Castle home following the death of his mother, Grace, who was Link's sister; eleven grandchildren, four greatgrandchildren, nephews, nieces and his many friends. Mrs. Cora Danielson, 82, died Saturday at Hand Community Hospital. Services were held at 10:30 a.m., today from the Hackett Funeral Home with the Rev. A.R. Sorenson officiating and burial at Rose Hill cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Berne and Elwyn and one daughter, Mrs. Howard (Twila) McQueen, all of Shenandoah. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one brother, Fred Rhoades of Mt. Vernon, S. Dak., and two sisters, Mrs. George Garland, Holyoke, Colo., and Mrs. Goldie Keith, Whittier, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred in 1942 and by one brother, Riley. She was a member of the Town Guild, Women's Relief Corps and Rebekah Lodge, No. 166. Ferne E. "Nana" Decker 75 of Lincoln, Ne., died March 14,1996.
She was a member of the Southern Heights Presbyterian Church and the Fairway Silvercrest Club, Sun City, Az.
Survivors include a daughter, Carole Elliott, Clarinda; stepson, Charles R. Decker, Beaverton, Or.; stepdaughter, Joan Rae Holmes, Carrollton, Texas; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rey "Pops" Decker.

Dornon, John
Former Clarinda resident, John Dornon, 55, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 1996 at Marian Health Center, Sioux City, after a five-month battle with cancer.
He was born Feb.22, 1940 in Harlan, and graduated from Harlan High School
in 1958. He married Sharon Reinke May 12,1962 at Elk Point, SD.
Dornon was the high school football coach at Clarinda from 1967-69. He compiled a 27-1 record before going to Ellsworth Community College, Iowa Falls, and then Morningside College, Sioux City.
He was a football scout for the Canadian Football League, Edmonton, Albert, Canada from 1983-86, and was the sophomore football coach at Sioux City Community Schools at the time of his death. He also was the 1995 head football coach at North High School.
In his coaching career, Dornon was named the Siouxland Coach of the Year in 1966; Hawkeye Eight Coach of the Year in 1967; Southwest Iowa Coach of the Year in 1968, and Iowa Junior College Coach of the Year in 1972.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon, Sioux City; daughters Kelly Dornon-Heimsoth and Lance Heimsoth, Sioux City; and Kerry and Dave Drees, West Des Moines; two granddaughters; parents, John and Frances Dornon, Sioux City; sister, Mary and Bud Verdi, Lafayette, In.; and brother, Dr. Robert and Nancy Dornon, St. Petersburg, Fl.
Funeral services were Jan. 17 at Sioux City. Cards may be sent to Sharon Domon at 4412 Wellington Ave., Sioux City, Iowa 51106.

Douthit, Nita M. Clark
Mr. Nita M. Douthit, an 80 year old resident of Leisure Lake, Rt. 5, Trenton, Mo., passed away April 18, 1996 at her home.
Mrs. Douthit was born on November 6, 1915 at Clarinda, la., the daughter of Walter and Helen Abel Clark. She was married to Alexander Douthit on August 30, 1934 at Maryville, Mo. After their marriage they lived at Clarinda until moving to Des Moines, la. in 1953. While in Des Moines Mrs. Douthit owned and operated Nita's Beauty Shop from 1955 until 1985. They retired and moved to Leisure Lake in November 1985. Mr. Douthit preceded her in death in 1988.
Mrs. Douthit was a member of the Hodge Presbyterian Church in Trenton.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Stone of Arvada, Co.; one son, Quinton Douthit of Mineral Wells, Tx.; two brothers, Don Clark of Lucerne Valley, Ca. and Frank Clark of Clarinda, la.; 5 grandchildren, Gregory T. Stone, Clinton T. Stone, Douglas G. Douthit, Patrick D. Douthit and Sherrie McDonald; and by two great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one infant son and one brother, Seth Clark.

Dunn, Dorothy Gregg
Mrs. Dorothy Dunn, 92, of Clarinda died Monday, April 21, at Community Care Center.
She was born June 9, 1904 in Harlan Township, Page County, Iowa, the daughter of J. Ren and Anna McKee Lee. She was a graduate of Geneva College. She was Dean of Women at Millersville College in Millersville, Pa. and also served as Dean of Women at. Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pa. After her retirement she volunteered as a teacher in a Christian school in Guatemala for three years.
She was married to W.G. Dunn on November 15, 1952. Mr. Dunn preceded her in death in 1970.

Orne of Sun City, Az. and Gertrude
Alice Lee of Clarinda, la. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents and her husband.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 25th at the. Reformed Presbyterian Church, southwest of Clarinda with Dr. Howard Elliott officiating.

Eichhorst, Elmer - Elmer Eichhorst, 77 of Yorktown, died Friday, Jan. 19,1996 at Veterans Hospital, Omaha, Ne.
He was born Aug. 15, 1918 at Overton, Mo., the son of Herman J. and Flora Stock Eichhorst. He served in the South Pacific during World War II and married Irene Blume Jan. 8,1946. He was a carpenter and longtime resident of Yorktown. He served on the Yorktown City Council for 40 years. Eichhorst was active in St Paul Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder and held other offices. He had been an officer in the Iowa District LLL. Survivors include his wife, Irene, of the home; children: Ryland and Pat Eichhorst, Dubuque; David and Cynthe Eichhorst, Clovis, Ca.; Kenneth and Barb Eichhorst, Rosemount, Mn.; Kathleen and Gregg Paulsen, Gilbert, Az.; Bruce Eichhorst, Yorktown; eight grandchildren and one step grandchild. Also surviving are sisters, Louise|Forbes, Falls City, Ne.; Elsa Hill, of Creston; Clara Tamburella, Houston, Texas; Verduna Herzberg, Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, brother and step grandson.
Services were Monday, Jan. 22 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Yorktown, with Pastor Marc Quintavella officiating.

Opal B. Foster, 81 of rural New Market, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 1996 at Clarkson Hospital, Omaha, Ne., following heart surgery.
She was born May 10, 1914 near New Market, the daughter of Clarence and Nora Elizabeth Burnham Wood. She graduated from New Market High School in 1931 and taught in rural schools before her marriage to Merritt
Foster May 15, 1937.
The couple farmed southwest of New Market. Merritt preceded his wife in death April 24,1989. She continued to live on the farm until her death
Survivors include brothers, Orville Wood and Otis Wood, both of New Market; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 15 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, with Rev. Marcia Smith-Wood officiating. Burial was in Memory Cemetery, New Market.

Shirley Edith Willey Graham, 63, of Clarinda died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 1996, at her home.
She was born June 9, 1932 at Clarinda the daughter of Neil and Jennie Bennett Hamm. She had worked as a nurses aide at Bethesda Care Center and Clarinda Municipal Hospital.
Children surviving are Sherryll and Charles Hobbick, Clarinda; Patricia Graham, Clarinda; Vickie and Randy Stalder, Clarinda; Rita and Rodney Adams, Clarinda; Gloria Phillips, Clarinda; Neil Henke, Clarinda. There are 10 grandchildren. Also surviving is her companion, Jim Graham, Clarinda.
Brothers and sisters are Thelma Zelenack, California; Phyllis Wallace, Omaha Ne.; Mary Louise Bowling, Deer Park, Texas; Dian and Roger Harris, Braddyville; Larry Hamm, Des Moines, Clifford Hamm, Clarinda.
She was preceded in death by parents; son, Paul Kevin Henke; sister, RuthDiggs; and brother, Ronnie Hamm.
Graveside services were Friday, Jan. 19, at Oak Grove Cemetery, with Rev. Ron Green officiating. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda was in charge of arrangements.

Greenfield, Murl
Murl Greenfield, age 80, of Villisca, Ia. died Monday morning September 30, 1996, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.
He was born March 24, 1916 in Page County near Hepburn, the son of Zay and Etta Vance Greenfield. He attended Fairview country school.
On May 31, 1946, he married Reva Cooney, who survives. Mr. Greenfield was a lifelong farmer. He was honored to have served in the Army for 42 months during WW II. Murl helped to establish and was a
faithful supporter of the American Legion Ker-A-Vor Post No. 251 where he was a 50 year member. Mr. Greenfield was preceded in death by parents, a son, Richard and two infant sisters.
He is survived by his wife Reva

Hanson, Arthur
Arthur E. Hanson, 82 of Clarinda, died Monday, Feb. 19,1996 at Community Care Center of Clarinda.
He was born Aug. 28,1913, the son of Carl and Johanna Nelson Hanson. On Jan. 30, 1938, he married Neva May Hull, who preceded him in death April 17,1981.
Hanson was parts manager at Evans Motor Co., and worked at other automotive companies before retirement. He was a veteran of World War II.
Hanson is survived by son, Richard and Margaret Hanson, Concord, Ca.; two grandsons; sister, Dagmar Nicholas, Amarillo, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Carl and Robert.

Harris, Doris H. Peterson - Doris H. Harris, 95 of Clarinda, died Monday, Feb. 26,1996 at Luther Park Care Center, Des Moines.
She was born Aug. 18, 1900 at Corning, the daughter of Axel and Hulda Shellquist Peterson. She attended college and taught school for three years.
On June 14,1922, she married Paul Harris, who preceded her in death Oct. 5, 1975. Harris worked at the Peterson's Store before her retirement.
She is survived by daughter, Elaine and Richard Fastenau, Des Moines; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren; sister, Ruth Lines, Corning.
Harris was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Paul; brothers, Ralph Peterson and Dr. Paul Peterson.

Hunter, Alfred Ernest - Alfred Ernest Hunter was born Sept. 13, 1908 at Carbon, la. to Frank and Alberta Day Hunter and past away at his home in Clarinda on April 13,1996 at the age of 87 years.
He grew up in the Carbon area where his father farmed and operated coal mines. A young man he began working in the mines during the winter months.
Baseball was the love of his life in his teens and he had aspirations of a big league career. This was terminated when he accepted the Lord Jesus and the call to the ministry in 1931.
On Feb. 17, 1932 he was united in marriage to Fern Miller of Clarinda and began his ministry. In 1934 he joined the West lowa Conference of the Free Methodist Church and was assigned to the College Springs church, later moving to Shambaugh and then to Boone. In 1941 he attended Centeral College in McPherson, Ks. later doing work by correspondence. In 1942 he was elected district superintendent, which office he held for 10 years. He served churches in Sioux City, la.; Omaha, Ne.; Ottawa, Ks.; and Clarinda.
His wife Fern died in 1977 during their pastorate in Clarinda. Following her death he gave up the pastorate and became and evangelist.
On Nov. 3, 1978 he was united in marriage to Ruth Wells and continued serving the Lord by doing supply preaching in the area, most recently at the Red Oak Church of Nazarene. They were actively involved in the Southwest Iowa Holiness Assn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John, Ivan, and Lewis; and two sisters Sarah Gravett and Lydia Hunter in infancy.
Alfred leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Ruth of the home, daughter Linda Hammer and her cnildren Alicia and Mac
of Shrewsbury, Mass. [or] sister Alta Ruth of Kingsland Texas, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Kelley, Marjorie A. Akin
Marjorie A. Kelley, 86 of Braddyville, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 1996, at Clarinda Municipal Hospital. She had been a resident at Community Care of Clarinda for five years.
She was born Nov. 23, 1909, in Page County, the daughter of Aca and Blanche Gates Akin. On Jan. 30,1929, she married Beuford Kelley, who preceded her in death March 29, 1981. Kelley had been a cook at the Branding Iron Cafe, Clarinda and the State Line Cafe, Braddyville.
She is survived by sisters, Anna Belle Neff, Everton, Mo., and Ruth Whigham, Ames; brothers, Lowell Akin, Graham, Mo., and Lisle Akin, Clearmont Mo.; also nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan.
20, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda. Burial was in Braddyville Cemetery.

Ross A King, 86 of New Market, died Sunday, March 17,1996 at his home.
He was born July 11,1909 in Edison, Ne., the son of Frank C. and Wilhemina Fredrich King. He married Arlene Keller Nov. 23,1940.
He and his wife have lived in New Market since December and fanned in Taylor County for over 50 years prior to moving to New Market.
King is survived by his wife, Arlene, of the home; son, David and Jill King, Bedford; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister, Jean and Corwin Mauderly, Bedford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Barbara Jean Murphy; brother, Dale; sister, Blanche Scharff.
Funeral services were Wednesday, March 20 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, with Loren Daly officiating. Burial was in Memory Cemetery, New Market.

Lamb, Ocle Florene Staton
Ocle Florene Staton Lamb was born Aug. 3, 1903 to Wilsie and Alice Maylan Staton at Redding, where she lived with her parents and brother. She attended and graduated from Redding School.
On Oct. 19, 1923, she married Edgar Glee Lamb at Grant City, Mo. They celebrated their 72nd anniversary last fall.
The couple started their life together on a farm north of Allendale, Mo. They had 11 children, 41 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
They sold their farm in 1953 and moved to Mt. Ayr where they managed the Lamb Hotel. In February of
1960, they moved to Clarinda, where she and her husband worked at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute. She worked there for 15 years before retiring at age 70.
The couple moved to the Worth County Convalescent Center, Grant City, Mo, where they lived together until March 29,1996 when she died at the age of 92.
Survivors include husband, Edgar, Worth County Convalescent Center, Grant City; children, Rex D. Lamb, Maryville, Mo.; Dorothy L. Rush, St. Joseph, Mo.; Garland W. Lamb, Omaha, Ne.; Robert L. Lamb, Elliott; Retha F. Moutray, Kansas City, Mo.; Robert J. Farmer, Clarinda; Nathan G. Lamb, Red Oak; Martha A. Andrews, Clear Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Staton; son, Gerald Lamb; daughters, Lloytt Bressler and Marjorie Plumb; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Beverly Ola Larabee, 58 of Clarinda, died Sunday, Jan. 14,1996 at her home.
She was born March 29, 1937 to Arlie and Marie Kent Beal. She married Kenneth D. Larabee, who preceded her in death in 1966.
Larabee worked at Clarinda's MHI in nursing service.
She is survived by six children, Jerry D. Larabee, Adams, Ne.; Josephine and Robert Goetz, Clarinda; Larry L. Larabee, Fremont, Ne.; Charles D. Larabee, Siam; Jeffery S. Larabee, Coin; Arlin E. Larabee, St. Paul, Mn.; 12 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Clyde Richard Lawson, 87 of Clarinda, died Sunday, March 10, 1996 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital where he had been admitted earlier in the day.
Lawson was born Jan. 18, 1909 at Yorktown, the son of James and Jennie Handorf Lawson. On May 28, 1931, he married Garnette Clark, who survives.
Lawson was a brick layer, working locally and in the surrounding area. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army.
Survivors include his wife, Garnette, Clarinda; daughters, Phyllis Lynn, Pleasanton, Ca.; Nancy and Loren Nothwehr, Fremont, Ne.; Elinor Brooks, Omaha, Ne.; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Ada Louise Howard, Saginaw, Mi.

He had lived in Omaha, Ne., where he was a transportation driver and later retired to Clarinda. He is survived by cousins.

Mattes, Jean Taylor - Mrs. Jean Mattes, 72 of Clarinda died Thursday afternoon, October 3 at Community Care Center after a lengthy illness.
She was born April 29, 1924 at Blencoe, Iowa the daughter of Carl and Essie Keyser Taylor. She graduated from Sidney High School and married Alfred Mattes on July, 4, 1944. Mr. Mattes preceded her in death May 4, 1991. Mr. and Mrs. Mattes lived at Braddyville until moving to Clarinda in 1977.
While at Braddyville she was a cook and secretary at the Braddyville school. She later worked at the Clarinda Public Library and was librarian at the time of her retirement. Mrs. Mattes was a member of Chapter NY P.E.O., United Methodist Church, Clarinda Garden Club, rural letter carriers auxiliary and Clarinda Library Foundation and held district offices.
Mrs. Mattes is survived by two
sons: Marty Mattes and wife Maria
of Clarinda, and Kirk Mattes and
wife Sheryl of Edwardsville, IL.

She was born Dec. 1, 1928, near New Market, the daughter of Wilbur and Mabel Gant Carmichael. She married John McNeese June 12,1948.

He was born May 13, 1918 north of New Market, the son of Guy and Essie Glasgow Morris: He married Neola McGowan, who preceded him in death. He later married Grace Skjersaa, Bend.
Morris farmed in the New Market area and later in Carbon.

Myers, Herbert F. - Herbert F. Myers, 76 of Clarinda, died Thursday morning, October 3, 1996, at Ambassador Care Center in
Omaha, NE after a long illness.
He was born April 20, 1920 at Clarinda, Iowa, the son of Harlan and Delia Milleson Myers. He was married to Lutie Eberly on September 30, 1945. Mrs. Myers preceded him in death August 8,1995.
Mr. Myers worked for the City of Clarinda for 32 years and retired as street foreman.
He is survived by a brother, Raymond Myers, Clarinda, and sister Alice Graham, Clarinda. He was preceded in death by parents, wife, brother Marion and sister Darlene.

Alma M. Otte, 102 of Clarinda, died Dec. 31, 1995 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, where she had resided just a few weeks.
Otte was born to John and Wilhelmine Sunderman Feb. 12,1983 northwest of Clarinda in Nodaway Township. On July 6,1916, she married William Otte at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Clarinda.
The couple farmed until they moved to Clarinda in March of 1924, to start a.career in the furniture business and the funeral service business. Otte attended St. John Lutheran Church and was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
She is survived by her children, Wendell and Letha Otte, Marie Sump, all of Clarinda; seven grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Velma A. Parks, 86 of El Dorado, Ar., died Friday, March 8, 1996 at Medical Center of South Arkansas, El Dorado.
She was born Dec. 18, 1909 in Braddyville, the daughter of Charlie and Nora Snyder Hiles. She married Martin K. Parks, who preceded her in death.
Parks was a homemaker and retired food service worker.
Survivors include sons, Dr. Kermit Parks, El Dorado; Charles Parks, Warrenton, Va.; and four grandchildren.

Iris R. Peterman, 79 of Clarinda, died Wednesday, Feb. 28,1996 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital.
She was born March 1, 1916 in Clarinda, the daughter of Swen Fredrick Leonard Newman and Dora Allisa Fulton Newman.
She married Beryl Peterman Aug. 24, 1939. They lived at Hepburn and later moved to Clarinda. Her husband died March 27,1986.
She is survived by children, Judy and Delmer Friend, Des Moines; Leonard Peterman, Panama City Beach, Fl.; Reva and Dennis Northup, Bloomington, Ill.; 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; sister, Nina Newman, Clarinda.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three children, two grandchildren, one brother and two sisters.

Pfeiffer, John W.
John W. Pfeiffer, 73 of Clarinda, died suddenly Friday, Feb. 23, 1996 in Kearney, Ne.
Pfeiffer was born March 21, 1922 to John W. and Bertha (Borsdorf) Pfeiffer. He graduated from Red Oak High School and Junior College, Red Oak.
He married Kathleen Hunt on Feb. 8,1946. He farmed five years at Essex and five years at Red Oak. In 1957, the family moved to Clarinda where John worked for many years as a machinist.
Survivors include wife, Kathleen, Clarinda; daughters, Pat and Mike Miller, Mustang, Ok.; Jacquie and Richard Richey, Odebolt; son, John E. and Norma Pfeiffer, Clarinda; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother, Theodore Pfeiffer, Red Oak; sister, Jean Moore, West Branch.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Andrew, Phillip and Fred; and sister, Katherine Ruth.

Helen C. Pfenning, 89 of Clarinda, died Thursday, March 28, 1996 at
Community Care Center of Clarinda where she had been a patient since August of 1988.
She was born Dec. 25, 1906 at Sidney, the daughter of Allen and Amelia Holley Pfenning. She worked in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Annan, helping to raise their family.
Survivors include a sister, Edith, Belden, Omaha, Ne., and niece, Marjorie Arauza, Omaha.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 30 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda with Rev. Don Fisher officiating.

Polsley Ann Nocton -
Elizabeth Ann Polsley, 64 of Coin, died Friday, Feb. 2, 1996 at her home. She was born Feb. 14, 1931 at Tarkio, Mo.; the daughter of William (Bill) and Nellie (Shelby) Nocton.
Her childhood was spent in the Westboro, Mo., area, moving to Shenandoah with her family when she was in the eighth grade. She finished her schooling in Shenandoah, graduating in 1949.
On Nov. 5, 1949, she married Carroll Polsley and they have lived in Coin since then. She spent many years working at the Coin Cafe until her health began to fail in January of 1994.
Polsley is survived by her husband, Carroll, Coin; children, Jim Polsley and friend, Carol Bryson, Shenandoah; Kate and Carroll Steeve, Clarinda; Doug
and Guylene Polsley, Riverside, Ca; 10 grandchildren, and two great granddaughters.
Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Helen and Glen Larsen, Clearfield; Dorthea Larsen, Clearfield; Martha and Max McKinley, Reno, Nv.; Marvin Nocton, Clarinda; sister-in-law, Deloris Warnecke, Denver, Co.; stepmother, Dorothy Nocton, Farragut; nieces, nephews and friends.
She has willed her body to medical science. Interment of her ashes will be at a later date.

Pullan, Frances Lee Crawford
Frances L. Pullan, 89 of Clarinda, died Tuesday, March 5,1996 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital, where she had been admitted Monday.
She was born Nov. 14, 1906, at Sidney, the daughter of Dwight and Edith Magel Crawford. On Jan. 14, 1934, she married L.W. Pullan, who preceded her in death March 12, 1988. She had been a longtime resident of Clarinda.
She is survived by stepdaughter, Margo Franco, Hutchinson, Ks.; one grandson, three granddaughters, two great-grandchildren and two sisters, Louise McCord and Pauline Andrews, Tulsa, Ok.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Robert Webber, one brother and one sister.

Lock, Waverly, Mo.,: Max Perry, Tarkio, Mo.,; and Ernest Runyon, Bingham. Zula Reynolds of New Market is a great great grandmother.

He was a native of Iowa and married Joanne Bradley, Clarinda, who survives.

Smith, Johnny -
Johnny Smith, the son of Kuhny and Sena Slems Smith, was born on November 29, 1931 in Cedar Falls, Iowa and died on March 5, 2003 at the Kavanagh House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 71 years, three months and five days. Funeral services were held at Oakland United Methodist Church at Oakland, Iowa on Sunday, March 9, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Burial was at the Oaklawn Cemetery at Oakland, Iowa.
Johnny attended Miner Grade School and graduated from Cedar Falls High School with the class of 1949. He attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA, graduating with the class of 1953. On June 7, 1952, Johnny was united in marriage to Addie Mae Pittam at Rosehill Church in Clarinda, IA. In September of 1953, Johnny was drafted into the United States Army and served much of his time in Germany. After being honorably discharged in 1955, he taught school at Washington Township in Minturn, IA. In 1957, the family moved to Bedford, IA, where Johnny was Junior High School Principal and later became Superintendent in 1966. During this time, he attended Drake University and received his master's degree and specialist degree in education. He served as Superintendent of the Oakland Community School District in Oakland, IA from 1971 until he retired in 1988. His retirement culminated over 35 years of teaching and serving as an administrator of Iowa School districts.
Johnny enjoyed gardening, fishing in Canada, playing cards, traveling, visiting his grandchildren and all kinds of activities with his family.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents; and infant brother, Koert Smith; a sister, Frances Murphy; and his stepfather, Carl Zeiner.
He is survived by his wife, Addie Mae Smith of Oakland, IA; his five children, their spouses and thirteen grandchildren: James Smith, his wife June and their sons, Joshua, Michael and Lucas of Mount Ayr, IA; Scott Smith, his wife Claudia and their children, Kaitlyn, Tucker, Colleen and Jackson of Urbandale, IA; Roger Smith, his wife Jeni and their sons, Thatcher and Beckett of Grayson, GA; Lynelle Mikkelsen, her husband Paul and their daughters, Bailey, Maddie, Lauren and Claire of Adel, IA; and Suzanne Downs and her husband Randy of Des Moines, IA; his sisters and brothers, Annabelle Magee, Corlene Crane and David Zeiner. Steeve, Guy J.
Guy J. Steeve, 90 of Clarinda, died Friday, Feb. 23, 1996 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Omaha, Ne.
Steeve was born Dec. 11, 1905 near Bethesda, on the family farm to Martin and Clara Goecker Steeve.
He began farming when he was 14 and graduated from Immanuel Lutheran School. On Aug. 16, 1933, he married Beulah Nothwehr, who survives.
The couple farmed until moving to Clarinda in 1989. Steeve raised registered cattle and hogs. He also held community and church offices.
He is survived by his wife, Beulah, of the home; daughter, Marnice and Les Brooke, Clarinda; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Enola Scott, Sutter Creek, Ca.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ray.
Funeral services were Monday, Feb.26 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Clarinda, with Pastor Jerome Wagoner officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Sullivan, R. Paul -
Memorial services for R. Paul Sullivan were held Wednesday from the First Christian Church with the Rev. Howard Wakelin officiating.
Soloist was Jack Baxter and organist, Miss Shirley Birk. Honorary bearers were Chester Denton, V.P. Easterling, Joe Peterson, J.D. Rankin, Robert A. Read, Glen Rydberg, Richard Schlick and Al Sloey. Bearers were Roy Christensen, James Martin, Dale Matthews, Edward May, Robert Ross and Dr. G.L. Warin.
Serving on the floral committee were Mrs. Jack Burton, Mrs. Paul Gamble, Mrs. William Lauber, Mrs. James Martin, Mrs. John Jenkins, Mrs. Richard Schlick, Mrs. William Tarpenning and Mrs. G.L. Warin. Mrs. Chester Denton and Mrs. Robert Ross were in charge of the memory register. Ushers were Leslie Payton, Donald Stephens, Sam Whitehill and Wilbur Lang. Burial was at Rose Hill cemetery.
Ralph Paul Sullivan, son of' Ross Paul and Jennie LaVeta Taylor Sullivan, was born in Rock Port, Missouri, on September 13, 1913. He died in Shenandoah, on January 10,1972 at the age of 58 years, three months and 27 days.
The family moved to Oakdale, Nebraska, where he lived several years before coming to Shenandoah where he lived the remainder of his life.
He attended the public school and graduated in the class of 1932. He was an outstanding athlete, lettering in football, basketball and track. He earned a basketball scholarship to Parsons College, Fairfield, where he graduated with the class of 1936. Following this he returned to Shenandoah where he was employed at the Townsend Wholesale Grocery Company.
On November 29, 1942 during World War II, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago where he held the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was separated from the service on November 8, 1945 returning to Shenandoah where he was employed at the Mac Malloy Motor Company.
He went into partnership with his mother-in-law in the Redfield-Sullivan Furniture Store on Sheridan Avenue. Later, they moved the store to the west edge of Shenandoah naming it the Tradition House.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Shenandoah Chamber of Commerce, and an Ambassador for Action of the Chamber, the Shenandoah Kiwanis Club, Elks Lodge Tri-Centum Lodge A.F. & A.M., Sheshbazzar Chapter Royal Arch Masons, Tyre Council Royal & Select Masons, St. Paul Commandery Knight Templars, the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine of Des Moines, Shenandoah Chapter Order of Eastern Star, and Palm Shrine Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Terry Lee Sullivan and his wife Eloise Redfield Sullivan on September 26, 1968.
He is survived by his son, Duane of Shenandoah; daughter Juli, and her husband Jack Briggs of Des Moines, one granddaughter Courtney Elizabeth Briggs of Des Moines. Also surviving are two brothers, Richard Sullivan of Los Angeles, California; George Sullivan of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two sisters, Mrs. Al (LaVeta) Sloey of Shenandoah and Mrs. Mott (Mary) Johnson of Beaumont,

Taylor, John W. -
John W. Taylor, 71 of Clarinda, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 1996 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital. He was born Oct. 16, 1924 at Clarinda, the son of Charles and Ola Beery Taylor. He was a World War II veteran.
Taylor was employed in the maintenance department at Clarinda's MHI before retirement. Before working at MHI, he had been a painter in the local area.
Surviving children are: Judy and Dennis Sunderman, Clarinda; Pat Ferguson, Clarinda; Linda and Jim Wymore, New Market; John Taylor, Villisca; Don and Julie Taylor, Clarinda; Marty and Teresa Grimes, Clarinda; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Hazel and Norman Sunderman, Plattsmouth; Ralph Taylor, Tempe, Az.; Peggy and Joe Burkhardt, Bellevue, Ne.; Jim Taylor, Littleton, Co.; Bonnie and Leland Bunting, Shambaugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Henry; sisters, Jane Scroggs, Wanda and Ruby.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 22 at the Shambaugh Church of God with Rev. Dennis Bradley officiating. Burial was in Butler Cemetery, Shambaugh.

Terrell, Mabel D. Driftmier
Mrs. Mabel D. Terrell, 86 of Bedford, IA died Wednesday night, Oct. 2, 1996 at Clarinda Regional Health Center after a long illness.
She was born March 25,1910, at Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Settie Jane Driftmier. She attended two years of Junior College and was married to Charles Kendall Terrell in 1934. Mr. Terrell preceded her in death in 1971. Mrs. Terrell had worked in the Taylor County Auditor's office before her retirement.
Mrs. Terrell was preceded in death by her parents and husband, She is survived by a daughter, Judy Batton and husband Bill of Lakewood, CO. There are three grandchildren, David, Alisa and Mike Batton.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 5, 1996, at the United Christian Presbyterian Church in Bedford with Rev. Nancy Ross officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery at Bedford.

Wagoner, Mamie Marie Dawson
Mamie Marie Wagoner, 70, of Essex, died Sunday morning, April 14,1996, at Clarkson Hospital, Omaha Ne. following a brief illness.
She was born May 14,1925 near Bedford, la to John and Opal "Susie" (McNeese) Dawson. She graduated from Bedford High School. On May 14, 1944 she was married to Ivan Wagoner at Immanuel Lutheran Church and they farmed northwest of Clarinda. Mrs. Wagoner worked as a cook at the Gas Lamp, Essex and as the head of housekeeping at Garden view Care Center, Shenandoah for five years during the l970's. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her children; Eddie and Bonnie of Mitchelville; Robert of Chico, Ca,; John; Richie and Vickie of Essex; Randy of Essex; and Peggy and Bruce Hughes of Bowie, Md. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, sisters Helen Ridnour and Donna Marshall of Clarinda and Janet Wagoner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Bonnie Marie, parents, sisters Hazel Smalley and Betty Powell, brother Bill Dawson and grandson Bill Wagoner.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 17, 1996 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with burial at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Weddle, Bessie M. Stewart Lucas Maudlin
Bessie M. Weddle, 80 of Clarinda died Wednesday, Feb.28,1996 at Heartland East Hospital, St. Joseph, Mo. She had been a resident of the nursing home at King City, Mo., the past one and a half years.
Weddle was born April 22,1915 at
Siam, the daughter of Bert and Hattie
Jane Gant Stewart. She was a lifelong
resident of the Siam, New Market and
Clarinda areas.
She married Ellis Lucas, who preceded her in death in 1940. She then married John Maudlin, who died in 1978. She married Clarence Weddle, who died in 1988.
Weddle was an antique dealer, attending sales and selling her collections over much of the area.
She is survived by children, Darrel Lucas, Holt, Mo.; Dean Lucas, Stanberry, Mo.; stepdaughter, Leah Renfro, Ellsworth, Ks.; 23 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Eldon Stewart, Corning is a brother, and sisters are, Anna Cooper, Clarinda; Almira Renfro, Tuscon, Az.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; daughter, Evelyn Roush; step sons, Bennie and Robert Maudlin.

Willard
Ora Willard White, 77 of rural Villisca, died Friday, March 1,1996 at Villisca Good Samaritan Center where he had been a patient for the past 10 days.
He was born July 22,1918 in Valley Township in Page County, the son of Ora George and Fannie Rusk White. He attended Page and Montgomery county rural schools and graduated from Villisca High School in 1935.
He was a graduate of the agriculture program at Iowa State College, Ames. On March 15, 1941, he married Anabelle Smith at her parents' home, Rose Hill.
White was a 4-H member as a youth and worked in the State 4-H office at the Iowa State Fair in 1940. He was a 4-H leader for 26 years.
White was a longtime Registered
Angus Breeder, active member of the
local association and Iowa State Association. He was a faithful member of
the United Methodist Church serving
as Sunday school teacher, young
peoples programs, church board member and Chairman of Trustees for many
years.
He was active with Camp Aldersgate and the church state camping program, also was a conference delegate and delegate to jurisdictional conference.
Survivors include his wife, Anabelle, of the home; daughter, Doris and Ramon Dick, Villisca; two grandsons; brothers-in-law, Edgar C. Smith, Doyline, La.; Wilbur I. and Virginia Smith, Hemet, Ca.; Charles M. and Martha Smith, Alexandria, Va.; Robert L. and Sue Smith, Oskaloosa; cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were Sunday, March 3 at the Villisca United Methodist Church with Rev. Clark Finehout officiating. Burial was in Villisca Cemetery.

Williamson, Herman C., 59 of Clarinda, died Saturday, March 23, 1996 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born April 21,1936 at Frost, Ohio, the son of Burl Ira and Delphia Pearl Phillips Williamson.
He served in the Air Force for 10 years and married Carol Williams Jan. 28, 1961. Williamson was a concrete and masonry contractor.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, of the home; children, Trina and Bill Dockweiler, Clarinda; Angela Shafer, Glenwood; Dwayne and Linda Williamson, Clarinda; four grandchildren.

Gerald E. Woldruff, 76 of Reno, Nv., died Monday, Jan. 15, 1996 at St. Mary's Hospital, Reno, after a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 20, 1919 in Clarinda the son of Loy Edwin and Ethel Stiverson Woldruff.
On Sept. 5, 1941, he married Madelyn A. Rush, who survives. The couple moved to California 40 years ago, living there until 1971 when they moved to Nevada.
Woldruff was an assembler for Hamilton Mfg. Co. before his retirement.
Woldruff is survived by his wife, Madelyn, Reno; son, Randy and Belinda Woldruff, Sun Valley, Nv.; four grandchildren; brother, Russell Woldruff, Phoenix, Az.; sister-in-law, Viola Woldruff, Griswold.

Wood, Orville
Orville Wood, 85 of New Market, died Friday, March 8, 1996 at Good Samaritan Care Center, Villisca. He had been a resident there since Dec. 22, 1995.
Wood was born Aug. 5, 1910 in Taylor County, the son of Clarence and Nora Burnham Wood. He was a veteran of World War II.
He married Mildred Harkless, who preceded him in death in 1961. He married Erma Handorf, who survives,
June 2,1962.
Wood was a rural mail carrier before retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Erma, of the home; son, Wayne and Melva Wood, Council Bluffs; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother, Otis Wood, New Market.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Mildred; daughter, Carolyn Parsons; and sister, Opal Foster.
Funeral services were Monday, March 11 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, with Russ Clark officiating. Burial was in Memory Cemetery, New Market.
