Anderson, Lester G. -
Lester G. Anderson, age 78, of Burlington Junction, Mo., died Friday morning, Oct. 28,1994, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, Mo.
He was born Feb. 22,1916, at Columbus, Ohio, to Jed and Anna Belle Denham Anderson. He graduated from Hilliard, Ohio, High School.
He worked as a machine operator in a bolt factory and farmed since 1947. He was a member at large of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was married to Madonna Bears, Sept. 7,1946, at Kansas City, Ks. and she survives of the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by his wife of the home; a brother, John Anderson, Hilliard, Ohio; two sisters, Mildred Seeley and Virginia Anderson, both of Columbus, Ohio, and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday,Oct.31,1994, at 10:30a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Clearmont, Mo. Visitation was be Sunday evening at the Barr-Merrick Funeral Chapel.

Andrews, Beulah Grace Owen -
Graveside services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the Elmwood Cemetery at Coin. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the Hackett Funeral Home, Shenandoah. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
Beulah Grace (Owen) Andrews, daughter of Wesley Grant and Vida E. (Miller) Owen was born July 23, 1901, at Shambaugh.
She lived in the Coin area where she married William Sulser on June 9,1920. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband in his construction business.
In the 1940's they moved to Colorado due to her husband's health. He died in 1967.
Beulah married Carson Andrews on Nov. 5,1969. She retired in Lyons, Co., where she was a member of the Excelsior Rebekah Lodge #30 and LAPM of Longmont Canton #3.
She was also the treasurer for the Lyons Untied Methodist Church and wrote the Lyons area news for the Boulder newspaper.

Bix, Betty Hughes -
Betty Bix, 63, of Clarinda died Thursday, Dec. 1, 1994, at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Ne. Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 5, at the Church of God in Shambaugh with burial in the Clarinda Cemetery.
She was born Dec. 31, 1930, at Shambaugh, to Marion Loraine and Verna Faye (Loy) Hughes. She married Robert Bix on Oct. 9,1949, at the Shambaugh Chruch of God.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; children, Mrs. Tom (Rebecca) Ihringer of Fargo, N.D.; Michael P. Bix and wife Chari of Clarinda, Mrs. Robert (Christine) Geer of New Market and Jon R. Bix and wife Daphne of rural Coin. There are eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A sister is Mrs. Dale (Nancy) Carver of Clarinda.
Bix was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Nola Jane.
She worked at the Clarinda Company from Dec. 1962 until retiring Dec. 1, 1993.

Mrs Leo (Pearl) Bright, 70, Santa Cruz, Calif., died Sunday at the Dominican Hospital there following a short illness.
Born in Missouri she lived the greater part of her life in Shenandoah, where she worked at the May Seed Company.
Following the death of her husband she moved to California to be near a grandson who was raised in her home.
She was a former member of the First Christian Church of Shenandoah and a member of the First Christian Church at Santa Cruz. She was also a member of the Degree of Honor, and the Nishna Valley Rebekah Lodge No. 166 both of Shenandoah.
She is survived by one grandson Michael Foster, two great grandchildren Mark Allen Foster and Katherine Rose Foster, one sister Mrs. Essie Butler and two nieces all of Santa Cruz, Calif. Among the relatives in the Shenandoah vicinity are John Bright and Lou Bright both brother-in-laws.
The body will arrive at the Hackett Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon where it will lie in state until Wednesday noon.
Graveside services will be held
at Rose Hill Cemetery at 1:30
p.m., Wednesday with the Rev.
Howard O. Wakelin officiating.
Memorial services will be held
at the First Christian Church,
Santa Cruz, Calif., at a later
date.

Brush, Vivian Irene Aid - Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home, Shenandoah, Iowa
Vivian Irene Brush the daughter of Claude and Vinnie (Dodge) Aid was born on August 8, 1916 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She passed away on March 7, 2014 at Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah. She was 97 years, 6 months, and 27 days old.
Vivian graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1937. After graduation she worked at Henry Field Seed Company and at McLellan's Store. She was a member of the First Christian Church, joining at an early age.
In 1941 she was united in marriage to Wayne Brush in Olympia, Washington. While living in Washington state she enjoyed climbing Mt. Rainier and salmon fishing.
After moving back to Shenandoah in 1946, they purchased a heating and air conditioning business. Vivian worked as bookkeeper for 35 years. She enjoyed dancing, reading, taking tour trips and especially having coffee with friends.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband Wayne in 1988 and her parents, Claude and Vinnie Aid. She is survived by cousins and friends

Burton, Pamela J. Simmons - Pamela J. (Simmons) Burton, 39, of Villisca, died Thursday, Sept. 22,1994, at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
She was born on Dec. 21,1954, the daughter of the late Ralph and Francisca Simmons, Corning.
Burton graduated from Coming High School. She received her secretarial degree from Southwest Community College in Creston and her social work degree from Iowa Western Community College in Clarinda.
She worked in social services in Clarinda, Maryville, Mo., and Red Oak.
She is survived by two children: Alex, 6; and Jeremiah, 13; and her husband, Ken, all of Villisca.
She is also survived by three brothers: Don and wife Marie Simmons, Prescott; Clarence (Short) and wife Pat Simmons, LaMesa, Ca.; Dennis and wife Norma Simmons, Clarinda; one sister, Caren Lanning, St. Joseph, Mo.;
and her mother-in-law, Juanita Burton, Villisca.
Funeral services were on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the United Methodist Church in Villisca. Memorials may be directed to the Villisca Little League.
At her request, her body is being donated to the University of Nebraska for medical science studies.

Mrs Elsie Carlson, 80, of Shenandoah died Wednesday at 7 pm at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, according to word to her sister-in-law, Mrs Lulu Mace, has learned.
Services will be Saturday, the funeral at 2 pm at the Hackett Funeral Home in Shenandoah, and burial in the Shenandoah cemetery.
Mrs Carlson was an early teacher in Page county rural schools, mostly in north townships. She was formerly Elsie McCunn. Her son, Herbert is of Shenandoah, brother Bernie McCunn, with whom she made her home, sister, Mrs Edna Bacon of Southern Missouri and sister-in-law, Mrs Olive Larson of Omaha.

Coulter, Mary "Maribel" Isabelle McDonald -
Funeral services for Mary "Maribel" Coulter were at the Presbyterian Church in College Springs on Wednesday, Jan. 18. A memorial is being established.
Hackett Funeral Home of Shenandoah was in charge of the arrangements.
Mary Isabelle Coulter, daughter of Burt and Anna (Smiley) McDonald, was born in Page County on Dec. 8, 1911 and died at Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda on Monday, Jan. 16,1995.
Coulter graduated from Amity High School in 1930. On Dec. 23,1935, she was united in marriage to Frank Coulter at the Presbyterian parsonage at College Springs.
After their marriage, they made their home on a farm southeast of College Springs until 1974 when they moved to their present home in College Springs.
Coulter was a member of the College Springs Presbyterian Church and the Birthday Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, two sons, Lloyd Coulter, who died in August 1987, and Keith Coulter, who died in December 1987.
Survivors include her husband, Frank, College Springs; daughter, Nancy Anderson and her husband Ray, Bedford; sister, Edna Runyan, Coin; brother, Harold McDonald, Shenandoah; five grandchildren, five step grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren, along with a host of other relatives. Crawford, Clark J. -
Clark J. Crawford, 72, of Clarinda, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 4, 1994, at Clarinda Municipal Hospital after a two-month illness.
He was born July 27, 1922, near New Market, the son of George and Nina Moore Crawford. He graduated from New Market High School and attended auction school at Chattanooga, Tn. He worked at the stockyards in Chattanooga, Tn., for a year, and then joined the U.S. Coast Guard, where he served 40 months on convoy duty. On June 6, 1942, he married Betty Shields, who survives.
Crawford was an auctioneer for 52 years, having joined his father when he returned from military service. He also worked for Production Credit Association for 27 years, serving as manager for the last 17 years.
He was an avid supporter of the community, serving on numerous boards and volunteer positions. He was a member of Clarinda First Christian Church, New Market American Legion, V.F.W. of Clarinda, Plumb Lodge No. 285 AF & AM of Siam, and Moila Shrine of St. Joseph, Mo.
Survivors include his wife Betty of the home; three children, John Crawford of Clarinda, Gloria Kline and husband Richard of Villisca, and George Crawford of Clarinda. There are nine grandchildren. Brothers are
Dale Crawford, New Market, and Ralph Crawford, Clarinda.
He was preceded in death by parents, granddaughter Heather Kline and brother Wade Crawford.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, with Rev. John Clark officiating. Masonic services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home, followed by visitation. Burial will be in the Clarinda Cemetery, with military services at the graveside.

Dodd, Erville Reeves -
Erville Reeves Dodd, daughter of Reuben and Harriet Miller Reeves, was born Sept. 28, 1882 at Tabor, and passed away at the Miller Memorial Hospital in Chappell, Nebr. on May 9, 1972. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia, her son-in-law, Haven Smith; one sister, Mrs. John Dodd of Red Oak, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dodd attended the Tabor schools, Tabor College, and the Tabor College Conservatory of Music. She taught piano, harmony and theory of music at Central Christian College in Albany, Mo. She also taught in the public schools of St. Joseph, Mo., Council Bluffs, and Fremont county.
On Sept. 6, 1908, she was married to Clifton Clark Dodd at Logan. Mr. and Mrs. Dodd began their married life on a farm near Randolph. In 1922, they moved to a farm near Shenandoah, and in 1940 retired in Shenandoah. Following Mr. Dodd's death in 1954, Mrs. Dodd made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Haven Smith, in Chappell.
Mrs. Dodd was a member of the First Christian Church of
Shenandoah.
Since Mrs. Dodd had become blind, she re-read the entire Bible through the talking records provided by the American Bible Society.
She was for a number of years the chaplain of the Shenandoah Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Several of the devotional services she wrote were given national recognition and are in the permanent archives of the Society in Washington.
Without neglecting her home, Mrs. Dodd found time to keep up her music, to teach for several years after her marriage, and to maintain a lively interest in government and civic activities. She was for many years a member of the Fremont County Board of Education. She envisioned a larger world for women, and her influence is no where more evident than in the achievements of some of her students and of others who had the privilege of her inspiration.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Congregational church in Shenandoah with the Revs. E. D. Cox and Paul Syster officiating. Mrs. Margaret Woods was the organist.
Casket bearers were Wallace Chesshire, Dr. Kenneth Gee, John Gowing, Fred Lindburg, Lawrence Snell and Dale Spears. Honorary bearers were Harry Bredensteiner, C. W. Fishbaugh, Dr. E. J. Gottsch, William H. Longman, Dennis West and Carl Wolford.
Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery at Shenandoah with the Hackett funeral home in charge.

Eno, [Paul] Fred [erick] - Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home, Shenandoah, Iowa
Fred Eno, age 89, of Shenandoah, Iowa formerly of Villisca, Iowa entered into peace Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Windsor Manor Assisted Living Center, Shenandoah, Iowa.
Paul Frederick Eno, was born January 1, 1925 in New Market, Iowa. He was the only child of Harvey and Eva Eno. He lived in New Market where his dad had a funeral home and furniture store. In 1936 they moved to Villisca, Iowa where his father went into partnership with Ray Sutphen and had Eno and Sutphen Furniture and Funeral Home. In 1941 the partnership was divided and Harvey took over the furniture business and the Sutphen family took over the funeral business. Fred entered the business with his parents in 1947.
Fred attended Villisca Community Schools where he participated in all sports. His senior year he was the only person on the track team. Every day after school Fred worked out at the track. The superintendent was interested enough in Fred that he came down to time Fred every day. That year Fred went to the Hawkeye 6 meet being the only participant from Villisca and won the track meet by beating Shenandoah, Red Oak, Atlantic, Creston and Clarinda. He still holds the record at Villisca High School for the high and low hurdles, and also some records at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. In the 38th annual state track meet he won the low hurdles and also set a record in the high hurdles at a time of 14.8 seconds. He graduated from Villisca High School in 1943.
After high school he went to the University of Iowa where he played on the football and basketball team. During his first year of college, Fred was drafted into the Army. He spent two and a half years serving in World War II in the European Theater of Operations, during the Central Europe Campaign. He was awarded the Bronze Star for a meritorious achievement in ground operations against the enemy. He married Arlene Prather in 1948 and two sons were born to this marriage, Kurt Charles and Mark Fredrick. After the service he entered the family business and continued to operate Eno Furniture until it closed in 1986.
In February of 1987 Fred and Arlene retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas where he enjoyed playing more golf. In 2001 they moved to Green Valley, Arizona. After Arlene's death, Fred moved to Shenandoah, Iowa in November of 2012 to be close to family.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, wife Arlene Eno, son, Kurt Eno and grandson, Layne Eno.
Fred is survived by one son, Mark and wife, Carol of Shenandoah; two grandsons, Scott and wife Robin of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Blake and wife Cassie of Omaha, Nebraska; four great grandchildren, Niles, Sophia, Clayton and Simon Eno.

Erxleben, Esther Marie Geer -
Esther Marie Geer Erxleben, 51, of Omaha, Ne., formerly of Clarinda, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 1994, at her home in Omaha.
She was born Aug. 5, 1943, the
daughter of Clyde and Paula Steeve Geer. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Clarinda High School. She earned an associate's degree from Metro Community College in Omaha.
She is survived by two sons: Ron Erxleben and wife Trish of Jefferson City, Mo., and Greg Erxleben and wife Sandra of Silverdale, Wa.; two sisters, Ardith Anson and husband Norman of Sioux City, and Alice Nordberg and husband Perry of Omaha; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were Oct. 1 at the Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ken Lampe officiating. Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Clarinda.

Frey, Walter Leore -
Walter Leore Frey, 76, died Sunday, Sept. 4,1994, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 28,1918, at home, the son of Harvey C. and Sylvia Brooks Frey, at their farm southeast of Villisca. At the age of 4 on the death of his mother, he and his younger brother Francis were raised by their maternal grandparents, Rome and Daisy Brooks. He attended country school and Villisca High School, graduating in 1935. He attended the University of Iowa, majoring in civil engineering.
In 1936 he met and courted Maxine Mace and in 1939 they were married on March 1 in Clarinda. They moved to a farm south of Nodaway where they have since resided.
He was a member of the Nodaway Methodist Church and served on its boards. He was also active in community affairs, serving on both the Nodaway and Villisca school boards, the Adams County Extension Board and the Farm Bureau Board.
He became a Mason in 1947 and served as a District Lecturer for more than 40 years. In the early 1970s he joined the ZA-GA-ZIG Shrine of Des Moines, being a member of the Karousel Kut-Ups Unit in Coming.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Nodaway; children, Curt Frey, wife Shirley, of Oskaloosa; Cheryl Lyall, husband Bob, of Indianola; and Lyle Frey, wife Sue, of Villisca; five granddaughters; a brother, Francis Frey of Villisca; stepmother, Golda Frey of Clarinda; and sister-in-law Carolyn Lackey of Pittsburgh, Ca.

Gentry, Mason Reed -
Mason Reed Gentry, 80, died Dec. 4, 1994 at his home in Kansas City, Mo. He was born in Iuka, Ark. and had lived in Northboro for 47 years. He moved to Kansas City four years ago.
Gentry retired from farming in 1973. He was a member of the Shenandoah Nazarene Church.
Relatives include his wife Nettie M. Gentry, of the home; a son, Robert H. Gentry, Salem, Or.; two daughters, Irene Irby, Pleasant Valley, Mo.; Tamra Murphy, Malone, N.Y.; two brothers, James Gentry, Gladstone, Mo.; Carmel Anderson, Billie Allumbaugh, Lavelle King, all of Gladstone; seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

Good, Ruth Louise Alexander -
Mrs. Beryl (Ruth Louise) Good, 85, of Braddyville, died early Monday, Dec. 19,1994, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, where she had been taken day before.
She was born July 6,1909, at New Market, the daughter of Leslie and Rosa Bullock Alexander. After graduation from high school and business courses in Omaha, she was a bookkeeper in several Clarinda business. On May 8,1938 she married Beryl Good, who survives. They lived in Painesville, Oh., several years and retired to Florida where they lived for 25 years. They spent their summers in Clarinda and moved to Braddyville about two years ago.
She is survived by her husband Beryl. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Schoening officiating.

Gray, Max L. -
Max L. Gray, 73, of rural New Market, died Saturday morning, Oct. 29,1994, at Mercy Hospital in Corning after a long illness.
He was born March 3, 1921, at Canton, S.D., the son of Otis Lee and Iva Walter Gray. He married Dorene E. Gould on Feb. 13, 1943, at Maryville, Mo. Mr. Gray served in the Army. Mr. and Mrs. Gray have lived on the farm south of Guss where he was active as long as health permitted.
Mr. Gray is survived by his wife Dorene of the home and two children: Mrs. David (Linda) Williamson, Fayette ville, Ga. and William and wife Susan Gary, Harrisonville, Mo.
There are seven grandchildren. Brothers and sisters are Donald Gray, Huson, Fl.; Arthur Gray, Villisca; Robert Gray, Emerson; Mrs. Ralph (Thelma) Stamps, Clarinda; and Mrs. Donald (Lois) Trybom, Villisca. He was preceded in death by parents and brothers Carroll and Roy.

Grove, Donald Max - Donald Max Grove, 78, died Friday, Nov. 4, 1994 at Marshalltown Manor in Marshalltown. He was a former Clarinda area resident.
He was born Jan. 26,1916, the son of Clarence and Laura Bell McNutt Grove. He had been in care facilities for the past several years.
Graveside services were held Saturday, Nov. 5, at Clarinda Cemetery with Rev. Bill Chambers officiating. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda was in charge of arrangements.

Grove, Fern Hensleigh -
Fern Grove, 86, died Monday, Nov.
14, 1994 at the Kansas University
Medical Center in Kansas City, Ks.,
after surgical complications from a
fall resulting in both legs being broken.
Grove had been living with her daughter, Gwen Howard, since February of 1993.
She was born in Blanchard on May 31,1908. After graduating from Clarinda Junior College and attending Iowa State University in Ames for one year, she taught home economics.
She married Gerald Grove in 1930. Grove was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarinda, the United Methodist Women and the Builders Sunday School class.
She worked for Berry Seed Company and the Page County Superintendent.
Her parents, "Mort" and "Maggie" Hensleigh preceded her in death as did her husband, Gerald, and a sister, Esther Hensleigh.
She is survived by a daughter, Gwen, and her husband, Robert Howard, Overland Park, Ks.; three grandsons; and a brother, Don Hensleigh, Shenandoah.
Funeral services were Nov. 17 at the Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda, with burial at the Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Clarinda United Methodist Church.

Harms, Cleo Winifred Banks -
Cleo Winifred Harms, 62, of rural Clarinda, died Thursday, Dec. 15,1994 at Community Care Center in Clarinda where she had been a resident since Oct. 24.
She was born Sept. 21, 1932 near Westboro, Mo., the only child of Wilbert and Edith Dalbey Banks. She attended the Lone Willow County School and graduated from Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Mo., in 1950. Later she graduated from Chillicothe Business College, Chillicothe, Mo., with a degree in accounting.
She worked for the Maytag Co. in Newton before marrying Glenn E. Harms of Clarinda on April 20, 1952. She and her husband farmed north of Yorktown, later purchasing a farm southwest of Clarinda. He died in 1988.
Harms was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by two children: Mrs. Charles (Shirley Ann) Long, College Springs; and Dick W. Ben Harms, Clarinda. There are four grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 17 at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarinda, where she was a member. Pastor Ray Weber officiated. Burial was in Clarinda Cemetery with Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Walter E. Harms, 71 of Red Oak, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 1994, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha, Ne. Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Nelson-Boylan Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak.
Harms was born July 22, 1923, in Page County near Yorktown to Eli and Elizabeth Harms. He graduated from Clarinda High School in 1941 and married Marvis Johnson on October 19, 1943 in Tarkio, Mo. They lived and farmed near Clarinda before moving to Red Oak where he worked at the Farmer's Mercantile Company until he and his brother, Dale, bought the Massey-Ferguson dealership in Red Oak known as Harms Implement Company. They later sold the dealership to Nick Hildreth who operated it as Nick's Farm Supply, now Tri-Tractor of Red Oak.
Harms played the guitar and enjoyed entertaining for senior citizen gatherings and nursing homes. For many years he and his wife wintered in Arizona.
Survivors include his wife, Marvis, Red Oak; son, Randy, Frisco, Co.; two daughters, Sharon and husband, Adam Chrostowski, Lake Orion, Mi.; Connie and husband. Bessie E. Haxby, 89, of Clarinda, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 1994, at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital after several months of illness.
She was born June 10, 1905, at Jefferson, the daughter of Christopher A. and Hulda Hintz Battles. Haxby was a graduate of Iowa State University at Ames and taught math and home economics before her marriage to Dr. Robert J. Haxby in 1928.
She moved to Clarinda after her marriage where she was a member of the United Methodist Church, PEO and Order of Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and half brother, Frank Battles.
Survivors include three children: Diane Fisk, Bel Air, Ca.; Caroline Lindberg, Springfield, Mo.; and Ronald Haxby, Sequim, Wa. Mrs. Earl (Laura) Silver, Clarinda, is a sister. There are five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Hentsch, Martha Zender -
Funeral services for Mrs. Paul L. Hentsch, 90, were held March 5 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca with the Pastor John Duran officiating. Mrs. Hentsch died March 3, 1971 at the home of her daughter in Villisca. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Shenandoah.
Mrs. Martha Hentsch was born in Grunow, Germany on Nov. 24, 1880, the daughter of Ferdinand and Marie Zender.
She married Paul O. Hentsch, July 6, 1905 at St. Louis Mo., who preceded her in death in 1957. To this union were born five children, two sons and three daughters.
She is survived by four of her five children: Martin Hentsch, Miss Naomi Hentsch of Villisca and Mrs Erich Schulz and Mrs. Belknap Nash of Bedford, one granddaughter, Mrs. Martha Lou Schulz Prekker now residing with her husband, Steve, in Albuquerque, New Mexico; one brother-in-law; six sisters-in-law and 37 cousins all residing in Germany.
Mrs. Hentsch attended the Lutheran Church when able, but has been in poor health during the last few years.

Randall G. (Cotton) Herzberg, 64 of Red Oak, former Clarinda resident, died Monday, Oct. 31,1994, at Veterans Hospital in Omaha, Ne., after a long illness.
He was born June 11, 1930, near Clarinda, the son of Albert and Ida Sunderman Herzberg. On June 20, 1954, he was married to Dwylah Jean Carmichael who preceded him in death July 25, 1984. On Feb. 14, 1994, he was married to Joan Byers of Red Oak who survives.
Mr. Herzberg served in the military during the Korean Conflict. He and several brothers operated the DX Station in Clarinda for 25 years. Later he sold products for Moorman's Feed.
Mr. Herzberg is survived by his wife Joan of the home and two children: Mrs. Ron (Tonya) Eighmy, New Market; and Russell and wife Heather Herzberg of Clarinda. There are three grandchildren. Stepchildren are Terry Byers, Henderson; Jeff Byers, Sac City; and Kim Byers, Red Oak.
Brothers and sisters are Rufus Herzberg, Clarinda; Louisa Herzberg, Clarinda; Mrs. Clarence (Leona) Nothwehr, Clarinda; Edmond Herzberg, Shenandoah; Emil Herzberg, Fresno, Ca.; Mrs. Clyde (Bertha) Jensen, Creston; Wesley Herzberg, Clarinda; Walton Herzberg, Creston; Bernard Herzberg, Creston; Albert Herzberg, Riverton, Wy.; Norman Herzberg, Omaha; and Mrs. Bill (Thelma) Hentschke, Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Jean, and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 3, at Walker-

Inez C. Horner, 81, of Des Moines, former Clarinda area resident, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 1994, in Des Moines.
She was born Aug. 6, 1913, in Bedford, the daughter of Perry and Rachel Fine. She was married to Charles O. Horner in 1934.
They had lived in the Clarinda area before moving to Des Moines several years ago.
Homer is survived by a son, Gary and wife Trudy Homer, Prospect Heights, II., and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1988, nine brothers and sisters.

Donald R. Hoskins, 80, of rural Clarinda, died Saturday morning, Sept. 24, 1994, at Clarinda Municipal Hospital.
He was born April 11,1914, at Shambaugh, the son of Bert Calvin and Amanda Jane Beery Hoskins. On Aug. 11, 1942, he married Thelma Huddle who survives.
Hoskins was a lifelong farmer living east of Shambaugh.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma, of the home, and four children: Mrs. Norman (Donna Kathryn) Zimmerman, Didsbury, Alberta, Canada; Mrs. Jim (Karen Rae) Nielson, Oyen, Alberta, Canada; Arlan James and wife Denise Hoskins, Mitchell, S.D.; and Ronald Paul and wife Bonnie Hoskins, rural Clarinda.
There are 13 grandchildren. Ferne Sarver, Grinnell, is a sister, and Denise Hoskins, Braddy ville, is a daughter-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael Norman Hoskins, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Sept. 28 at the Hillside Missionary Church in Clarinda with Pastor Scott Denham officiating.
Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Gideons or Harvest Fellowship Church at Shambaugh.

Hazel Marie (Gwinner) Huss, daughter of William Harvey and Cora Belle (McLaughlin) Gwinner, was born Jan. 11,1916 in Nodaway County near Clearmont, Mo., and died Dec. 9, 1994 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Shenandoah.
When she was two years old, the family moved to Orient where she grew up and graduated from high school.
On May 5, 1949, Hazel was united in marriage with James P. Smith. Following their marriage, they lived in Fort Dodge and then Laurens. They had one son, Phillip James. Her husband Jim died Jan. 10,1968.
Hazel worked as a nurse's aide at nursing homes in Ft. Dodge and Laurens for several years.
In June of 1981, she married Martin Huss and they made their home in Coin, where she lived the remainder of her life.
Preceding her in death were her parents, four brothers, Wesley, Glen, George and Raymond Gwinner; one sister, Mary Case, and her first husband, James P. Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Martin Huss, Coin; one son, Phillip J. Smith, Coin; one grandson, Nathan Paul Smith; sister, Mildred Mikkelsen, Afton; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was 78 years of age.

Howard Homer Hutcheson, 56, of Clarinda, formerly of the Bedford - Hopkins area died of a heart attack at Chillicothe. Mo., July 12 shortly before the family was to gather for a family picnic.
Services for the former Hopkins baker and filling station operator were held July 15 at Walker Funeral Home with burial at Rose Hill cemetery at Shenandoah. Graveside services were performed by the New Market Masonic Lodge and military services by members of the Ft. Leavenworth military honor detachment.
He was a native Iowan, being born at Hornick, and Mr. and Mrs. Hutcheson moved to Camdenton, Mo., two years ago where he was retired after spending 20 years in the Army.
He is survived by his wife, the former Jennie Genevieve Shinkle; four children: Mrs. Leon (Kila) Larsen of Yorktown, Renate Hutcheson of Camdenton, Mo., Gary Hutcheson, Clarinda and Alan Hutcheson of Norwalk; eight grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Cal (Vera) LeCuyer of Mountain View, Calif., and a brother, Claude O. of Palo Alto, Calif.

Tomy Hutson, 46, died Saturday, Dec. 3,1994 at the Page Care Facility, Clarinda.
Graveside services for Tomy were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6 at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Shenandoah, with the Rev. Richard Sleyster officiating. Open visitation was at the Hackett Funeral Home in Shenandoah.
Thomas Lawrence Hutson III, son of Jimmie and Wealthy (Johnson) Hutson, was born Nov. 27,1948 at Du Quoin, Ill. He grew up in Shenandoah and attended the Glenwood State School from 1952-70. In 1970 he moved to the Page Care Facility where he lived the remainder of his life.

Hattie Jackson, 94 of Red Oak, died on Monday, Dec. 5,1994, at the Stanton Care Center after an extended illness.
Jackson was born Feb. 19,1900 in Ringgold County, the daughter of Arthur and Delia Rush. On April 6, 1919, she was united in marriage to Charles Jackson in Mt. Ayr. He preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1982.
The couple lived in Clarinda for many years until moving to Omaha, Ne., during World War II, and to Red Oak in 1946 where Charlie barbered for 30 years.
Jackson was also preceded in death by her son, Donald, in 1991.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jeanne Jackson, Bella Vista, Ar.; three sisters: Louise Peckham, Idaho; Avis Hetzell, Mt. Ayr; and Mell Harrison, Cheverly, Md.
Funeral services were on Dec. 8 at Nelson-Boylan Funeral Chapel in Red Oak with burial in the Clarinda Cemetery. Dr. Scott Woodworth, Pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiated.

Joe V. Kidney, 65, of Clarinda died Saturday morning, Oct. 29, 1994, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Ne., following a long illness.
He was born Jan. 20, 1929, in Blockton, the son of Lloyd H. and Freda Davidson Kidney. He married Marilyn Crump on Nov. 27,1953. He retired from the Air Force and came to Clarinda in 1970. From 1970 until 1986 he operated Clarinda Automotive and Machine Business. Since then he had been in the real estate and insurance business.
Mr. Kidney is survived by his wife Marilyn of the home and sons Richard Kidney, Havelock, N.C.; and John Kidney, Davenport, Ne. There are five grandchildren. Bill Kidney of Gentry, Ar. is a brother and Mrs. Homer (Betty) Baxter of Bedford is a sister. He was preceded in death by
parents and a brother, Denton.

Krull, Henry J. -
Services for Henry J Krull, 77, were held Sunday at the Trinity Lutheran Church at Shenandoah after his death at the hospital in Shenandoah early Thursday [Mar 1972]. He had been in failing health for six years.
The Rev Donald D Mann officiated for the services in the church of which he was a communicant member. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, casket bearers being Harold Book, Lloyd Keeton, Bert Lorimor, Edward Maas, Duane Snyder and Arnold Tiemeyer.
At the organ was Mrs David Freeze, at the register Mrs Alma Bertram and Mrs Julius Blockert, and assisting with flowers Mrs Alfred Anderson, Mrs Arnold Meyer, Mrs Dorothy Olmsted, Mrs Joe O'Hara and Mrs Dorothy Uhlig.
He was born in Page County, near Clarinda, on Nov 13,1894, and was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Clarinda. He married Frieda Marie Ideker April 26,1926 who has preceded him in death. They had two children, Erwin and Dorothy (Mrs Delbert Travis), of Shenandoah. The couple had been parents to Kenneth Mayes who had been orphaned at 12 years of age, and made temporary home for several other boys.
They lived at Clarinda, moving east of Shenandoah, in 1934, where they farmed until retirement into Shenandoah in 1965.
A memorial is being established to the Lutheran Hour and gifts may be left at the church or with the Hackett Funeral Home, where arrangements for services were made.

Mrs. Lowell (Betty Jo) Lawger, 53 of Clarinda died Thursday morning, Dec. 29, 1994 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital after a long illness.
She was born Aug. 28, 1941 near Carbon, the daughter of Maynard Joe and Agnes Dixon Baker. She was married to Lowell Lawger on May 6, 1961.
Lawger had worked at a care center and was working at the Branding Iron Cafe at the time she became ill.
She is survived by her husband, Lowell, of the home; one daughter, Julie Sue Lawger, Clarinda; a step daughter, Connie Troxel, New Market; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Sisters and brothers are Leota Mae Wagaman, Glenwood; Ruth Hoyt, Clarinda; Grace Aldridge, Waverly, Vi.; Mike Baker, Coin; Jack Baker, Clarinda; Roger Baker, Villisca. Her mother, Agnes LaFaver, Clarinda, also survives.
She was preceded in death by her father and sister, Karen Sue Selby.
Funeral services were Dec. 31 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda with Rev. John Clark officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Clarinda.

Mabel Lee, 80 of Clarinda died Friday, Dec. 2, 1994, at Goldenrod Manor [Clarinda, Iowa] where she had been a resident since 1989.
She was born Sept. 8, 1914, at Braddyville, the daughter of John A. and Emma (Higgins) Williams. She worked at the food counter in J. L.
Brandeis in Omaha, Ne., for 29 years. After retirement she lived in Omaha and Lincoln, Ne., prior to coming to Clarinda in 1989.
Survivors include daughters, Joyce Lee of Hamburg; Elizabeth (Betty) Lee of Vancouver, Wa.; and son, Wayne Lee. of Palmira, Ne.; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Hazel Sondergard.

Mrs. Wilbur (Eddie Lou) Lininger, 64, of Clarinda died Nov. 18, 1994 at the Municipal Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Lininger had been visiting their son in Colorado and returned home Friday shortly before her death.
She was born April 24, 1930 at Clearmont, Mo., the daughter of Charles and Florence LaFaver Gray. She was married to Wilbur Lininger March 12, 1947. Mrs. Lininger had worked as a waitress in Clarinda and later did babysitting for local families.
She is survived by her husband Wilbur of the home and three sons: Gary Lininger, Iliff, Co., Jay Lininger, Shambaugh, and Les Lininger, Clarinda. There are 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Bob Gray, New Market, is a brother and Dorothy Adams, Hepburn, is a sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Danny and brother, Walter Gray.

Funeral services for Doris Geraldene Elenor Linquist, 84 of Essex were held Saturday, Nov. 26, at 1 p.m. in the Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman. Burial was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Nyman. She died Nov. 22, 1994 at Stanton Care Center where she was a resident.
Born to Sanford and Elnora Peterson Nelson Feb. 8, 1910 in Page County, she was baptized and confirmed at the Bethesda Lutheran Church. On Jan. 23,1935, she married Glenn L. Linquist. They farmed in the Nyman area many years and moved to Essex in 1973. She was active in the Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman.
Linquist was preceded in death by her parents, husband on Feb.26,1994, and two brothers, Eldred and Clemens.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Shukis, and husband Frank, Dallas, Texas; a son, Leslie Linquist and wife Kathy Stanton; two brothers, Carroll Nelson and Glendon Nelson, both of Clarinda; and five grandchildren.

McConnell, Lowell M. -
Lowell M. McConnell, 80, died Thursday afternoon, Sept. 29, 1994, at Community Care of Clarinda.
He was born Feb. 23,1914, in Garner, one of six children of Samuel McKee and Ada Alicia Brush McConnell. He grew up in Monmouth, II., graduating from high school there. A graduate of Monmouth College, he received his divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He was married to Mary Taggart on June 4,1942, in Clarinda.
The Rev. McConnell served Presbyterian churches in Grosse Pointe and St. Clair Shores, Mi.; Newton; and Oshkosh, Green Bay and New Franken, Wi. He retired from the active ministry in 1979, moving to Clarinda in March of that year. He maintained his membership in the Winnebago Presbytery, Wisconsin.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Taggart McConnell of Clarinda; his daughter, Cheryl M. Neubert of Grinnell; two sons, James L. and wife Christine of Green Bay, Wi., and William T. and wife Jodyne of Oshkosh, Wi.; a brother, John P. McConnell of La Jolla, Ca.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were Oct. 3 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Clarinda. The Rev. Don Fisher presided at the service. Burial was in Clarinda Cemetery. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

McCowen, Ray S. -
Ray S. McCowen, a 34-year resident of Paradise, Ca., died Friday, Nov.25,1994 at Feather River Hospital. He was 78.
McCowen was born Nov. 4, 1916 in Clarinda. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a plumber for 39 years before retiring. He was a member of Plumbers Local No. 607 in Chico, Ca., and the Loyal Order of Moose.
Before moving to Paradise, he was employed with Arthur Lines and Max Shum, of Clarinda.
McCowen is survived by his wife, Thelma; son, Raymond, Pahrump, Nev.; daughter, Janet Wolford, Glendale, Ariz.; brother, Dale, Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Thelma Watkins and Opal Parker, both of Clarinda. There are six grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation was at the Chapel of The Pines Mortuary and graveside services were Nov. 30 at Paradise Cemetery. Rev. Dave Hayes, Magalia Community Church, officiated. Funeral services for Mrs. Jess (Helen Irene) McKinley, 71, of Bedford, held May 19 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home here, were conducted by Rev. Richard G. Viney. Mrs. McKinley died unexpectedly May 16. 1969. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Shenandoah.
Helen Irene McKinley, 71, daughter of Levi and Bertha Walters, was born August 26, 1897 at Shenandoah, la.
She was united in marriage to Jess Harlan McKinley in 1920 and she is survived by their three children; Wayne McKinley, Los Angeles, California; Max McKinley, Stockton. California; Doris Kemper, Antiock, California, and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess McKinley, one sister, Mrs. Mabel Piper, and her parents.
About 12 years of her childhood was spent on a farm near Gravity, Iowa, and the family then moved to Shenandoah, Iowa. After her marriage she resided in Council Bluffs, and Shenandoah. For the past 20 years she has resided on a farm south of Bedford.
She was well known by many in the Shenandoah and Bedford area, and will be sadly mised by those who knew and loved her.
She was very active, and enjoyed working in her garden and tending her many flowers.
Her three children were here for the funeral services.

She was born July 2,1922 at Clarinda, the daughter of Elmer and Mary Winger Couch. She was married to Lorenz W. Meier on February 20, 1946 and started their married life farming north of Yorktown.
In late December of 1955, they purchased a farm west of Coin which became home to the family until her death.
Meier loved to cook and spent many years as a waitress or cook at various places including the Shenandoah Country Club, F. W. Woolworth lunch counter, The Little Diner at Clarinda and the Senior Center in Coin.
Survivors are her husband, Lorenz, of the home; daughter, Mrs. Roger (Pat) Gant, Bedford; son, Larry Meier, Chickasha, Ok.; daughter, Sharon Meier, Shenandoah. Mrs. George (Elizabeth) Slaight, New Market, is a sister. There are four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, Isaac Couch, Clarinda, and one sister, Beulah Marvin, West Des Moines.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 7, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church
in Yorktown with Pastor Marc Quintavella officiating. Burial was in Summit Cemetery. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, was in charge of arrangements. Anna Mary Morrow, 89, of rural College Springs, died Thursday afternoon, Nov. 3, 1994 at her home.
She was born Jan. 15, 1905 near Westboro, Mo., the daughter of Robert Elmer and Hannah Agnes Finlay Morrow. She graduated from Amity High School in College Springs and attended Tarkio College in Tarkio, Mo., for two years.
She has been a homemaker and lived with her family on the farm south of College Springs.
She is survived by one sister, J. Eleanor Morrow, of the College Springs home, two sisters-in-law, Edwena Morrow, College Springs, and Martha Morrow, rural Clarinda. There are also nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, William, Martin, George, Paul, Grace and Sarah.

NORTHBORO - Walter E Piester, 67, a native of the Locust Grove area died Wednesday at the Shenandoah Hospital after suffering a heart attack at his farm home. He was born and lived on the same farm all his life, a member of the Locust Grove Church.

Services for Mrs. Elizabeth M. Pinckley, 80, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday from the Hackett Funeral Home with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Howard O. Wakelin will officiate.
Mrs. Pinckley died Wednesday morning at Eppley Care Center, Omaha. She had been a patient at the University of Nebraska Medical Center prior to her transfer there.
Born at Walkerville and living her entire life in Page County, she is survived by one son, Ellery D. Pinckley of Shenandoah and four daughters, Mrs. A.E. (Fae) Dalrymple of Shenandoah, Mrs. W. Jim (Thelma) Rockwell, Red Oak and Mrs. J.E. (Doris) Duff and Miss Josephine Pinckley, both of Omaha.
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, two brothers, Lamont Wilson, Maryville, Mo., and Leroy Wilson, Slater, Mo., and two sisters, Mrs. Jim Van Fossen, Elmo, Mo., and Mrs. Lottie Davis, Maryville, Mo., a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Kathryn Johansen Richardson, 72, died at Crescent City, Calif., on Friday, Sept. 23, 1994, after suffering a massive stroke two days earlier.
She was the daughter of Fred and Isa Johansen, Clarinda. Johansen was superintendent of schools in Clarinda from 1931 until retirement. Richardson was a 1939 graduate of Clarinda High School.
Surviving are her husband, Warren Albert Richardson; one son and wife; one daughter and husband; four grandchildren, and sister, Mina Depew, Albuquerque, NM.

Mrs. Gene (Joyce Elaine) Ripley, 52, of rural College Springs, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 24, 1994, at her home.
She was born Aug. 26, 1942, near Clearmont, Mo., the daughter of Lain and Pearl Bower Davison. On June 5, I960, she was married to Gene Ripley who survives.
Mrs. Ripley operated the family dairy at their farm and later drove a school bus for South Page Schools.
She is survived by her husband, Gene, of the home, and six children: Mrs. Jon (Jenice) Schultheis, Ft. Collins, Co.; Donald and wife Becky Ripley, College Springs; David and wife Carla Ripley, Tarkio, Mo.; Douglas and wife Angela Ripley, Iowa Park, Tx.; Philip and wife Heather Ripley, College Springs; Steven and wife Kym Ripley, Clarinda. There are 10 grandchildren.
Also surviving are her parents, Lain and Pearl Davison, rural Clarinda; two brothers, Lowell Davison, Clarinda; and Dewey Davison, Ft. Pierce, Fl.; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, K.W. and Patsy Ripley, College Springs.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Pat Wbipp; a brother, Dale Davison; and nephew, Dan Whipp.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the College Springs Presbyterian Church. Rev. John Duling officiated. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery at College Springs.

Parr
Marguerite M. Shoemaker, 90 of Clarinda, died Friday morning, Nov. 25, 1994 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital a few hours after being admitted.
She was born Aug. 21, 1904 in
Cherokee Territory, Ok., the daughter of Isaac F. and Emma K. Pittman Parr. On Aug. 16,1923, she married Charles H. Shoemaker.
They lived in Southwest Iowa all of their married life, moving to the Siam
area in 1941. Mr. Shoemaker died Jan. 1, 1962. After his death, Mrs. Shoemaker moved to Clarinda.
She is survived by three children: Mrs. Carroll (Katherene) Luther, Shenandoah; Charles H. Shoemaker, Jr., and wife Dorothy, New Market; and Mrs. Junior (Delores) Renander, Clarinda. There are four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one granddaughter, one brother and three sisters.

Coral F. Shum, 83, of Clarinda, died Monday morning, Nov. 14,1994 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines after a few weeks illness.
She was born June 26, 1911 at Bedford, the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Cordie Dougherty Mohler. In 1931 she was married to Max Shum who preceded her in death Oct. 5,1984.
Shum had worked with her husband in the plumbing and heating business and later worked at Lisle Corporation in Clarinda.
She is survived by four sisters: Opal
Bogan, Ardyth Sather, Erma Myers and Jeanne Linebach, all of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother, Guy Mohler.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, Nov. 16, 1994 at Clarinda Cemetery with Dr. Emmanuel Dass officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Clarinda United Methodist Church.

Harold L. Snow, 82, was born at Stuart on April 30,1912 to Frank E. and Violet Lines Snow. He died in September 1994.
Snow was educated in Villisca and attended college in Lincoln, Ne.
He married Betty Hixon and they had one son, David.
Snow was in the restaurant and hotel business with his parents and later was a rural mail carrier. After his wife died, he moved to California. He served time in the Navy during World War II.
Snow was preceded in death by his first wife and parents.
He is survived by a wife, Doris, California; son, David, Marion; three grandchildren. Rosemary Anderson, Red Oak, and Violet Eickemeyer, Clarinda, are local cousins.

Spencer, [Charles] Guy -
Funeral services for Charles Guy Spencer, 70, were held Saturday at the Congregational Church in Shenandoah with the Rev. Ed Cox and the Rev. A.R. Sorenson officiating. Mr. Spencer died at Grape Community Hospital, Hamburg, March 1, 1972 after being admitted a week earlier.
Mrs. Gary Maffin, soloist, sang "The Old Rugged Cross' and "The Lord's Prayer." She was accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Margaret Woods. Church ushers were Don Forbes, Ivan Scharp, Dale Spears, and Dennis West. In charge of the memorial registration were Mrs. Harley Greenwalt, Mrs. Norman Kling and Mrs. Berkley Martin. The floral committee was composed of Mrs. Clinton Chadwick, Mrs. Hazel Forbes, Mrs. Bill Johnson, Mrs. Dale Livingston and Mrs. Merrill McConkey.
Honorary bearers were Winston Bartles, Charles Black, Howard Brannen, James Brannen, C.W. Fishbaugh, Vernon Fisher, Sam Knittle, Wm. Longman, Sr., Byron Raidt. C.L. Snyder. Jr., and C.L. Snyder, Sr.
Active bearers were Jim Androy, Ronald Bartles, Gary Falk, Harley Greenwalt, Larry Greenwalt, Donnie Hart, Merrill McConkey and Donnie Stephens.
Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Shenandoah.
Charles Guy, son of Charles and Sadie McCarty Spencer, was born, August 11, 1901 at Hartford, in Lyon County, Kansas. He passed away March 1, at the Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg following a heart attack.
When Guy was 11 years old his father passed away, leaving him with the responsibility of receiving his education and the support of his mother and brothers and sisters. Guy received his elementary education in the rural schools around Hartford, Kan.; worked with his neighboring farmers and they in return helped with the operation of the Spencer farm.
In 1924, Guy's mother passed away and soon after this he sold the family farm and worked for a farmer-stockman for several years prior to his coming to Iowa in 1928.
On December 23, 1930, Guy was united in marriage to Naomi Ellen Masterson at Clarinda. To this union were born one son, Charles of Shenandoah and one daughter Ina Rhee Skalberg of Shenandoah.
Guy and Naomi started operating the candy department at Henry Fields Seed and Nursery Co., in 1933 and continued until 1937 when they moved to main street and operated the Spencer's Sweet Shop.
In 1950 they moved the location to the present home of Spencers and started a Frosti-Freez, later adding the grocery store to the ice cream business.
In addition to his wife and two children, Guy is survived by five grandchildren, John, James, Karen, Joe and Jennifer; he is also survived by one sister Mrs. Paul (Opal) Baysinger of Hartford, Kan.; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Guy was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Dewey, Dale and Glenn and one sister Hazel.

Spencer, David Manard -
David Manard Spencer, 76, died Saturday, Sept. 24,1994, at his home in College Springs.
The son of Leroy E. and Lulu L. (Knisely) Spencer, was born Feb. 12, 1918, at Shenandoah. He grew up in southwest Iowa.
On Feb. 1, 1941, he was united in marriage with Hollis A. Nowels at Maryville, Mo.
Following their marriage, they lived in several communities in southwest Iowa before moving to College Springs.
His last 27 years were spent at College Springs.
Spencer worked at farming, operating heavy equipment, ran a greenhouse, and most recently, was on the Page County Bridge Crew.
He retired from Page County in 1980 and spent the rest of his retirement working on his acreage.
He is survived by his wife, Hollis, College Springs; two sons, Kenneth Spencer, Collins; Darrell Jerome Spencer, Atlantic; one daughter, Donna Sue Spencer, College Springs; and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Melvin Spencer.

A requiem mass in memory of Mrs. Clotilda Mary Steinhauser was held Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The celebrant was the Very Rev. Msgr. Francis L. Sampson. Chris Otto and Tim Otto were servers.
Bearers were Paul Baker, Mike Brown, Gordon Burmania, Jim Dideriksen, Max McKay, Steve McQuinn, Larry Otto and Tom Steinhauser. Bernie Laughlin and Cyril McEnaney were ushers. multiple sclerosis in Denver, Co. She was born in Lawton, Ok., and was raised by her late grandparents, Clifford and Verna Burton, on their farm east of New Market. She attended Lindsay Rural School, graduating from high school in Wichita, Ks.
Survivors are her father, Albert, of Theodosia, Mo; brother, Jim and his family of Pueblo, Co.; uncle, Richard Burton of New Market; aunt, Juanita Burton of Villisca; two children, Doug Kretz of. Denver and Dana of Los Angeles; and two grandchidlren.

Rev. Clarence D. Uetzmann, 83, of Park Rapids, Mn., former pastor of St. John Lutheran Church in Clarinda, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 1994, at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids. He was born Oct. 3, 1911, near Gibbon, Mn., to William and Wilhemena (Whittenberg) Uetzmann.
He attended parochial school in Gibbon and high school at Concordia Academy at St. Paul. He was a graduate of Concordia College and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo.
He was married to Valera Saggau Sept. 28,1938. He served churches in Inkster, N.D.; Ada, Mn.; Montevideo, Mn.; Park Rapids, Mn.; Clarinda (1960-66); and Perham, Mn.
He and his wife Valera retired to a country home south of Park Rapids and reforested 60 acres of pine trees near their home.
Survivors include his wife of Park Rapids, four daughters, Lanita Peterson of Minneapolis; Judith and husband, Bill Fisher, of Auburn, Wa.; Val and husband, Rev. Kenneth Hennings of Austin, Tx., Jean and husband Michael Bisesi of St. Louis, Mo.; nine grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Verona Rodewald of Gibbon, and Mrs. Eduard (Lanita) Krieg of Tracy, Mn.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters, two brothers and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 3, at 11 a.m. in the St. John's Lutheran Church, Park Rapids. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Park Rapids.

Vogel, Hazel B. Whigham -
Mrs. Lewis (Hazel) B. Vogel, 81 of Braddyville, died early Monday morning, Dec. 19,1994 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born May 25, 1913 near Blanchard, the daughter of J.M and Amelia Turnbull Whigham. She graduated from Amity High School in 1932.
On April 6,1938, she married Lewis Vogel. They farmed in the Coin area and retired to Braddyville in 1979. Vogel had operated the coffee shop in Coin
when they lived in that area.
Vogel is survived by her husband, Lewis, of the home, and three children: Mrs. Leo (Marie) VanFosson, Braddyville; Marvin Vogel, Overland Park, Ks.; and Mrs. Tom (Joyce) Duffield, Villisca. There are six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mae McGinnis, Braddyville, is a sister.

Wells, Blanch Geer -
Word has been received recently the death of Blanch Geer Wells, Olympia, Wa., sister of the late Edward and Arthur Geer, New Market.
She was born to Edward and Carrie Seward Geer, Norwich, on Sept. 7, 1900, in Page County. On Oct. 31, 1920, Blanch and J.C. Wells were married in Shenandoah. They were married for 70 years before his death on Dec. 16, 1990.
They owned and operated greenhouses and florist shops in Des Moines,
Omaha, Ne., and Denver, Co., before moving to Olympia in 1940, where they continued their florist business until their retirement.
Blanch studied nursing before entering the florist business after her marriage.
She is survived by one sister, Rose Wells, Pasadena, Ca.; nieces, Norma Lacy, Pasadena; Evelyn Hixson, Maryville, Mo.; and Irene Lewis, New Market. There are also several other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers: Arthur, Edward, Willard and David Geer; four sisters: Hazel Vackell, Etta Mueller, Mary Zimmerman and Florence Spoons.

Woolsey, John D. -
John D. Woolsey, 72, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 1994 at his home in Coin following several years of illness.
Memorial services for Woolsey were Tuesday, Nov. 29 at the Coin United Methodist Church with Rev. Gerald Allsup officiating. Memorials to the Coin United Methodist Church and Community Hospice of Iowa are being established.

John Derwood Woolsey was bom in Coin on July 14, 1922, the son of Charles Franklin and Mattie Aileen (Henderson) Woolsey. He attended school in Coin and at the age of 12, joined the United Presbyterian Church of Coin.
At 16, in 1939, he graduated from the Coin Consolidated School and began his life work as a carpenter.
In September of 1942, he joined the US Navy and served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres of World War II. He was discharged on Dec. 7, 1945 and returned to Coin.
On June 2,1946, he married Doris Esther Thomas, Coin. They had three children, John Thomas, James William and Norma Jean.
In 1948, Woolsey transferred his church membership to the Coin Methodist Church. He held several offices, was lay speaker, and sang in the choir for more than 40 years.
He had started his carpenter work with E.H.King, Coin, in 1939. For 46 years he built dwellings and other buildings throughout the area. On June 1, 1985, he retired from carpentering, working for UBC in Shenandoah, due to declining health.
Both parents and abrother, Charles, preceded John in death.
Among survivors are his wife, Doris; son, Tom and wife Mary, Sidney; son, Bill and wife Linda, Clarinda; and daughter, Norma and husband Ron Adams, Lake Havasu City, Az.; nine grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Betty Tweten, Lodi, Ca., nieces, nephews and cousins.

Young, Edgar Marvin -
Edgar Marvin Young, 85, of Des Moines, died at Wesley Acres Health Care Center on Sunday, Nov. 6,1994 due to complications following a stroke.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at the First Unitarian Church Mary Safford Room from 2-5 p.m. Nov. 19 in Des Moines.
Young's body will be donated for medical research to the University of Iowa.
Young was born in Page County and graduated from Amity High School in College Springs as well as Tarkio College, Tarkio, Mo. He has lived in Des Moines since 1935.
Young started as a reporter for the weekly Red Oak, Iowa Sun, and the daily Omaha Bee-News papers. From 1935-1944 he was anews copy reader and assistant state news editor for the Des Moines Register.
After army service in World War U, he joined the Meredith Corporation in 1946 and retired from there in 1971 as production editor of the Successful Farming magazine.
Young received a Battle Star and the Philippian Military Merit Medal as an army sergeant
After retirement, he and his wife were self-employed in a custom home interior finishing and painting business for 15 years.
He married Georgia Voss Young on Nov. 2,1962.
Young was a member of the First Unitarian Church, Acanthus Masonic Lodge, Des Moines Torch Club.
Young was preceded in death by bisfirstwife, Beth N. Young, in 1960; son, Norris P. Young, in 1988; and sister, Fern E. Young, in 1989.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia, Des Moines; daughters, Melinda E. Brisben, Iowa City; and Siria E. Young, Des Moines. There are three grandsons.
Memorials may be sent to the Des Moines Public Library or the First Unitarian Church.
