Hale, Carl Dwain - Carl Dwain Hale was born June 17, 1939 in Randolph, Iowa, the son of Ed and Amanda Leona (Baucom) Hale. He passed away on Wednesday morning, August 10, 2011 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 24 days.

Carl grew up in rural Fremont County and the Shenandoah area. Following his school years, he served in the Iowa National Guard. On December 22, 1973 he was united in marriage to Bernice Ellen Matthews in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Carl was self employed, operating a small engine repair shop for many years. He also worked at the American Legion Country Club in Shenandoah. He was a member of the American Legion, the Eagle’s and the Elk’s Lodge. Carl enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ed Hale, Alfred Hale, Mervin Hale, Glen Hale; sisters, Dora Loftus, Fern Wright, Lucille Sickler and Alice Beringer.

Survivors include his wife Bernice of Shenandoah, Iowa; his children, Jill Gadies and her husband Scott of Creston, Iowa, Jeff Hale of Arcadia, Nebraska; step children, Danny Mahoney and his wife Susan of Gilbert, Arizona, Angela Vardy and her husband Michael of Mesa, Arizona; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother Richard “Dick” Hale of Shenandoah, Iowa; a sister, Mary Squires and her husband Art of Shenandoah, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends

 

Hale, James P. "Jimmy" - James P. Hale - passed away on Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.


Hansen, Maureen A. - Maureen A. Hansen, 84, passed away on Wednesday evening at the Elm Heights Care Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah. A Rosary Recitation will take place at 6:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the family greeting relatives and friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. following the Rosary. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials in Maureen's name are being directed to either St. Mary's Catholic Church, Alzheimer's Association or a charity of the donor's choice

 

Harold, Marla J. Myers - Marla J. (Myers) Harold, age 64, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011. Marla was born September 27, 1946 in, Clarinda, Iowa, to Raymond and Leatrice Burton Myers, and graduated from Clarinda High school in 1964. She attended Olivet Nazarene University for one year and worked as a Computer Graphics Artist at Mutual of Omaha for 40 years, from 1971 to 2011. She is preceded by stillborn son, Jason Bennett Harold, and her parents, Raymond and Leatrice Myers. Marla is survived by husband Kent, whom she married on August 1, 1970, two daughters, Kacee and husband Matt White, Melinda Ramirez and husband Gabriel, all of Council Bluffs, four grandchildren, Melaina, Adriana, Dillon and Payton, sisters, Linda Greene and husband James, Washington, Iowa, Barbara Runyon and husband Ed, College Springs, Iowa, brother Daniel Myers and wife sherry, Clarinda, Iowa, nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Sunday, May 1, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with funeral service on Monday, May 2, 11 a.m., all at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will direct memorials

 

Hart, Frances Marie Lawrence - Frances Marie Hart was born March 28, 1915 near Craig, Missouri, the first of five children born to Clarence and Bessie Lawrence. Marie was followed by two brothers and two sisters. She passed away suddenly on Tuesday evening, May 10, 2011 in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 96 years, 1 month and 12 days.

Marie spent her school years in the Craig, Missouri area until she was united in marriage to Stanley Hart in 1941. She and Stanley farmed in the Shenandoah area until Stanley’s retirement when they moved into Shenandoah. During their farming years, two sons were born, Duane and Richard.

Marie was a member of the Shenandoah Mission Covenant Church for many years, as well as a member of the Covenant Women and the neighborhood women’s club where they farmed. She worked part time for several years at Henry Field Seed & Nursery Co. and the Shenandoah Elks Lodge. Marie loved music, shopping and visits with family and friends. She especially enjoyed getting together for a meal with family on holidays and for special occasions.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; her parents, Clarence and Bessie Lawrence; brothers, Charles and Carl Lawrence; and sisters, Ethel and Helen Warnemunde.

Survivors include her sons, Richard Hart of Shenandoah, Iowa, Duane Hart and his wife Virginia of Shenandoah, Iowa; granddaughter, Christine Hart of Jefferson City, Missorui; grandson, Craig Hart and his wife Dianna of Fulton, Missouri; great grandchildren, Erika, Dillon and Rory Hart all of Fulton, Missouri; along with many other relatives and friends

 

Hartman, Neva Bianca Downing - Neva Bianca Hartman was born June 10, 1912 in Rock Port, Missouri, the daughter of Frank Sheridan and Edna Marian (Underwood) Downing. She passed away on Wednesday evening, October 5, 2011 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 99 years, 3 months and 26 days.

Neva grew up near Tarkio, Missouri and graduated from Tarkio High School. She later attended Tarkio College for two years. On June 28, 1936, she was united in marriage to Floyd Eugene Hartman in St. Joseph, Missouri. Following her marriage she moved to Shenandoah, Iowa and later to Spencer, Iowa for six years. At that time she returned to Shenandoah. She worked as a secretary for Squires and later for Earl May Seed & Nursery.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah, the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and did volunteer work at the hospital. Her true love was golf. She was a member of the American Legion Country Club as well as the Ladies Golf Association, where she held all the offices over the years. Neva also wrote a golf column for the local paper for 12 years. She covered accomplished golf events as well as humorous golf items. She also loved animals, especially her dogs Sonya and Annie.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Floyd, and a brother-in-law, Harry McClure.

Survivors include her two sisters, Marian Downing of Olathe, Kansas, Leona McClure of Olathe, Kansas; close friends, Naomi Worl, Phyllis Funk and Marsha and Gary Stribling all of Shenandoah, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends

 

Headley, Naomi Marie Swanson - Naomi Marie Headley was born September 18, 1935 in Elliott, Iowa, the daughter of Alf and Inez (Fisher) Swanson. She crossed over on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the Hospice with Heart House in Glenwood, Iowa at the age of 76 years and 6 days.

Naomi grew up in rural Montgomery County and graduated from Stanton High School in 1953. On April 8, 1956, she was united in marriage to Raymond Headley in Stanton, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children, Tracy and Tamara (Tammy). Following their marriage, they traveled throughout the United States while Raymond served in the Air Force. In the early 1970Â’s, Ray and Naomi settled in Shenandoah. Naomi worked for J.C. Penney for about 10 years and then worked for HowardÂ’s Clothing for 26 years until her health forced her to leave in May of 2011. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Shenandoah. Naomi touched many childrenÂ’s lives through her teaching Sunday School. She also enjoyed quilting, collecting Beanie Babies and shopping. The true love of her life was her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Raymond; a brother, Darwin Swanson; and a brother-in-law, Larry Headley.

Survivors include her children, Tammy O’Neil and her husband Frank of Shenandoah, Iowa, Tracy Headley and his wife Debra of Yankton, South Dakota; seven grandchildren, Lucas Headley of Omaha, Nebraska, Miranda Headley of Yankton, South Dakota, Terra Reents of St. Joseph, Missouri, Jared Hiser of Shenandoah, Iowa, Jason O’Neil and his wife Shelby of Shenandoah, Iowa, Josh O’Neil of Shenandoah, Iowa, Jaime Steckelberg and her husband Brian of Shenandoah, Iowa; six great grandchildren, Taylor, Taryn, Teigha, Zane, McKaya and Olivia; a sister, Myrna Headley and her husband Delbert of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two brothers, Robert Swanson and his wife Joyce of Omaha, Nebraska, Glen Swanson and his wife Alice of Charlestown, New Hampshire; In-laws, Sharon Swanson of Glenwood, Iowa, Faye Rolf and her husband Donnie of Shenandoah, Iowa, Lois Keep of Shenandoah, Iowa, Carl “Sonny” Headley of Shenandoah, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends

 

Headley, Raymond Edwin - Raymond Headley passed away on Wednesday morning, May 11, 2011 at the Shenandoah Medical Center in Shenandoah. MtHope cem at Nyman.

Raymond Edwin Headley was born April 6, 1931 in Brownville, Nebraska, the son of Carl, Sr. and Abba (Carlberg) Headley. He passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2011 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 5 days.

Ray grew up in the Brownville area and moved to Farragut at age 10. Following high school, Ray joined the U.S. Air Force and served his country for 20 years during the Korean and Vietnam eras. He retired from the Air Force in 1971. On April 8, 1956, Ray was united in marriage to Naomi Swanson at the Mamreland Lutheran Church in Stanton, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children, Tracy and Tamara.

In 1973, Ray went to work for Eaton Corporation in Shenandoah. He retired from Eatons in 1986. Ray was a member of the American Legion, Lu & Al’s Coffee Club and was an avid NASCAR fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Abba Headley; parents-in-law, Alf & Inez Swanson; a brother, Larry Headley; brothers-in-law, George Keep and Darwin Swanson.

Hendrickson, Lola Mae Smith - Lola Mae Hendrickson was born May 26, 1947 at Greenfield, Iowa to Lyle Richard Smith and Luella Pauline (Logue) Smith. Lola passed away Saturday, August 6, 2011 at her residence in Clarinda, Iowa.
Lola graduated Atlantic High School. After high school she worked at Van’s Chat & Chew. She was introduced to her future husband on a blind date. Lola and Ron were married Feb 14, 1969 at First Covenant Church in Essex, Iowa. Ron worked in Essex for a while then moving to Clarinda for his work. Lola and Ron began a family and she devoted her time to raising her three children: Lee Alan, David Lee, and Lisa Mae. She became a grandmother and she adored her two grandchildren: Lane and Gabe. When Lola had free time she would go to Bingo a couple of times a week or was reading as she was an avid reader.
Lola and Ron were near their 42nd wedding anniversary when he passed away in February 2011. She was also preceded in death by her father, Lyle; infant brother, Glen Franklin Smith; mother and father in law Raymond and Dorothy Hendrickson and niece Kim Erickson Leftwich.
Surviving are her children Lee Alan Hendrickson and David Lee Hendrickson, both of Clarinda, and Lisa Allumbaugh and husband Greg of Clarinda; grandsons Lane and Gabe Allumbaugh; her mother, Luella Smith of Atlantic, Iowa; and siblings Carl Smith and wife Rosie of Shenandoah, Iowa, Neil Smith and wife Trish of Blaine, Minnesota, Wade Smith and wife Teri of Atlantic, Iowa, and Ida Oles and husband Jeff of Hamlin, Iowa; in laws Charles and Sharon Hendrickson, Karen and Byron Erickson, Mary and Danny Whitehill, Jimmy and Sharon Hendrickson, Connie and Tim Sollars, Arlene and Lanny Woods, and DeLayne Hendrickson; many nieces, nephews and friends..
Funeral services for Lola Hendrickson will be 10:30 Wednesday at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel with Ed Simmons and Mike Wheeler officiating. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Clarinda.
Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel.

Hendrickson, Ronald Lee - Ronald Lee Hendrickson was born Sept 11, 1941 rural Essex, IA to Charles Raymond Claus Hendrickson and Dorothy Marie (Hughes) Hendrickson. He graduated Essex High School.

Ron worked at the nurseries before graduating and following that he was a driver for Johnson Elevator in Essex. He began working at Wilson Foods in Clarinda retiring from there in 1991 after working there 23 years. After retiring from Wilsons he drove the Miller Taxi in Clarinda to fill his retirement days. He enjoyed the people and always had a wonderful conversation with those he met.

Ron served his country in the United States Army during the 1960's. Just before being discharged in 1969 he was married to Lola Mae Smith on Feb 14, 1969 at First Covenant Church in Essex by Rev. John Carlson. This year on Valentine's Day they would have celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary.

Ron passed away Feb 11, 2011 at Veterans Administration Hospital, Omaha, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law Lyle Smith, and niece, Kim Erickson Leftwich.

He is survived by his wife, Lola of Clarinda; children, Lee Hendrickson and David Hendrickson, both of Clarinda, and Lisa Allumbaugh and husband Greg of Clarinda and their two sons, Lane and Gabe; siblings Charles Hendrickson and wife Sharon of Essex, Karen Erickson and husband Byron of Shenandoah, Mary Whitehill and husband Danny of Farragut, Jimmy Hendrickson and wife Sharon of Shenandoah, Connie Sollars and husband Kim of Coin, Arlene Woods and husband Lanny of Tulsa, OK, DeLayne Hendrickson of Shenandoah; in-laws Carl Smith and wife Rosie of Shenandoah, Neil Smith and wife Trish of Goodyear, AZ, Wade Smith and wife Teri of Atlantic, IA, and Ida Oles and husband Jeff of Hamlin, IA; uncle Earl Hendrickson and wife Betty of Essex, aunts Pauline Miller of Farragut and Betty Burkes of Arizona; and mother-in-law Luella Smith of Atlantic, Iowa.

Military rites will be given by Sergy Post #98 American Legion Clarinda. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Clarinda. A memorial fund is being established in Ron's name

 

Henning, Marjorie Catherine Brush - Marjorie Catherine (Brush) Henning, the daughter of Cloyd and Stella (Lavely) Brush, was born June 6, 1922 in Shenandoah, IA, and passed away October 18, 2011 in Sidney, IA. Growing up in the Northboro area Marjorie graduated from Northboro High School in 1940. On June 15, 1943 Marjorie was united in marriage to William T. Harms and to this union five children were born: four daughters, Nancy, Marcene, Joyce, and Ardith, and one son, Gary.

Marjorie married Russell E. Henning on October 29, 1983 in the Coin Methodist Church and they lived together in Coin, IA . Marjorie was a homemaker on the farm and later worked for various Page County offices, the bank in Coin, and for 25 years was the City Clerk of Coin. She was a member and treasurer of the Coin Methodist Church and was involved with the Methodist Ladies Aide. She also participated in the Farm Bureau Women's Choir. Marjorie served on the election board for many years in Coin.
Preceding Marjorie in death were her parents; brother, Lloyd Brush, and his wife, Florence; brother-in-law, James Henning; and sisters-in-law, Betty Gratton and Patricia Kruse.

Survivors include her husband, Russell, of Sidney, IA; children, Nancy Jennings (Jon) of Papillion, NE; Marcene Nelson (John) of Coin, IA; Joyce Nehring (Mel) of St. Marys, IA; Ardith Magnuson (Daryl) of Carbon, IA; and Gary Harms (Roni Neely) of Olathe, KS; step-daughters, Nikki Dierzen (Robert) of Serena, IL and Sarah Dannenberg (Bruce) of Mineral Point, WI; 11 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Virgil Henning (Sandy) of Tarkio, MO; Jack Kruse of Fairfax, MO and Bob Gratton of Decatur, GA; sisters-in-law, Sally Perham of Melbourne, FL; Mary Ann Beggs (Herb) of Mound City, MO; Carolyn Blumenshine (Bob) of Washington, IL; and Norma Mathers (Butch) of Westboro, MO; plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service for Marjorie Henning, 89 of Sidney previously from Coin will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2011 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with burial to follow at Center Grove Cemetery in Westboro, Missouri. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Coin Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.

Hentschke, Thelma M. Herzberg - Thelma M. Hentschke, 78, of Omaha, Neb., passed away on November 16, 2011 in Omaha. She was born May 25, 1933 in Page County, Iowa, the youngest of twenty children born to Albert and Ida Herzberg.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, eleven brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her husband, Wilfred; son, Kurt and daughter-in-law Shari; son, Mark; granddaughter, January and grandson-in-law Bipin Thapa; granddaughter, Sara and grandson-in-law John Chappelle; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Adairah, Norah, and John; three brothers, two sisters as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation was held on Sunday, Nov. 20 at Braman Mortuary in Omaha, with Celebration of Life services held Monday, Nov. 21 at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Omaha. Pastor Leroy Gerner officiated, honorary pallbearers were Rosella Hemmen, Pamela Tritsch, Debra Reed, Reasa Sturm, Marlene Hansen, Shirley Swanson, Janis Swanson and Carol Donovan.
Interment was in Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park, Omaha, Neb. Memorials may be directed to King of Kings Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society

 

Hickey, Russell Dean - Russell Dean Hickey was born October 13, 1947 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Roy Dean and Ellen Ione (Williams) Hickey. He passed away on Sunday evening, September 4, 2011 at his home near Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 63 years, 10 months and 22 days.

Russell grew up in southwest Iowa and graduated from Fremont-Mills High School in 1965. Following high school, he served his country in the United States Navy. He later went to work for Eaton Corporation in Shenandoah and worked as a machinist for over 30 years. He was a member of the Hit N Miss Archery Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Evelyn Schenck. Survivors include his wife, Pam Hickey of Shenandoah, Iowa; his children, Russell Damon Hickey of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Julie Renee Glasgo and her husband Brad of Essex, Iowa, Waylon Dean Potts of Shenandoah, Iowa, William Hickey of Shenandoah, Iowa; grandchildren, Alysa, Devon and Chase Hickey, Jasmine, Gunnar and Desiree Glasgo, Kylonna Sands, Braydin and Miley Potts, Peyton, Takara and Justice Nelson; a brother, Ronald and his wife Teresa of Council Bluffs, Iowa; a sister, Carol of Nebraska; along with many other relatives and friends

 

Hill, Gerald Van - Gerald Van Hill was born November 23, 1927 in Shenandoah, Iowa to Vern and Enid (VanValin) Hill. He graduated from Amity High School, College Springs in 1945 and was then drafted into the Army Air Force. After discharging from the service in 1946, Gerald returned to the College Springs area and started farming. He attended Devry Technical School and studied in electronics which led him to his full time career of installing x-ray equipment in a variety of hospitals and clinics. Gerald retired in 1989 from Picker Medical Systems and began spending his winters in Texas and the summers in Wyoming. He enjoyed traveling until his ailing health kept him in Texas.
Gerald passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Doctors Renaissance Hospital in Edinburg, Texas due to heart problems and diabetes. A devoted family man, Gerald Hill is survived by his wife Eva of Pharr, Texas; two sisters, Beverly Kidd of Sun Rise Beach, Missouri and Martha Sage of Bolidar, Missouri; one son Larry Hill of Des Moines, Iowa; three daughters, Joyce Collier of Leesburg, Florida; Janet Hupp, of Bellview, Florida; and Kay Johnston of Watertown, New York; 20 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Father, two brothers: William and Donald and a great grandchild.

Services for Gerald will be 1:00 Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service starting at 12. Burial will be at the College Springs Cemetery following the service

 

Howard, Edna - Edna passed away on Friday morning, March 11, 2011 at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa. Rose Hill/Shenandoah, Kirsch Funeral Chapel, Shenandoah, Iowa.

 

Howell, Richard Norman - Richard Norman Howell was born on December 4, 1942 in Johnson County, Indiana, the son of Wilbur and Edna (Hough) Eckroth. Dick entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Dick attended school in Frankfort, Kansas and graduated from high school with the Class of 1961. He served in the United States Army in 1961 as a vehicle mechanic. He was honorably discharged in 1964.

Dick was united in marriage to Mary Helen Snyder on November 6, 1971 in Coin, Iowa. The couple made their home in Omaha, Nebraska. During his working years he was a mechanical foreman for Union Pacific Railroad, until his retirement. Prior to working for the railroad he was employed by Best Wall in Blue Rapids, Kansas.

Dick was a member of the American Legion and VFW in Frankfort, Kansas. He enjoyed farming and fishing. He was a hard working and caring husband, who will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his step-father Kenneth Howell and mother Edna Howell.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife Mary Helen Howell of Omaha; step-brother Daniel Howell; step-sister Carole Ann Howell; several cousins, other relatives and a host of friends

 

Ingrim, Carol Ione Johnson - Carol Ione (Johnson) Ingrim, age 85, passed away December 5, 2011 at Shenandoah Medical Center.
Carol was the daughter of William Oval and Maude Estella Johnson. Carol was born September 25, 1926 and raised in Shenandoah, Iowa, one of nine siblings. She wrote in the Page County History book: “Through difficult times, the folks managed, dad repaired shoes, pulled teeth, and repaired discarded toys. Mom was our doctor, made all our clothes, cut hair and inspite of us, kept us clean. Home was Grandma’s house on the hill by the old “Stand Pipe” by the time I came along in 1926. In the winter, we slid and the summer rolled down the hill on anything that would go. After supper dishes were done, the neighborhood kids and some older folks gathered under the street light and played games until bedtime.”
Carol graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1944. She married Charles William Ingrim, son of Earl and Orpha Mae (Elmore) Ingrim, on June 4, 1948. She was a hard worker and held many jobs. As a young lady she worked in a laundry; at the Carbon Plant in Red Oak; in Omaha at the Air Force Base; and at the Field Seed Company in Shenandoah as a seed tester. She also worked at the telephone company in Shenandoah while caring for her family.
Carol loved genealogy and she and her husband spent many vacations traveling the United States gathering information on their family histories. She also served on the Shenandoah Cemetery Board. After many hours walking the cemetery and researching records, she and Charlie compiled and published the Rose Hill Cemetery Record Book.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Lorna Reitz, Estalene Kinzie, Anna Mae Grape, and brothers Hubert, Earl, Bill, Dean, and Bryce Johnson.
Carol is survived by her husband Charles, two daughters Elizabeth Kamman of St. Joseph, MO, and Marilyn Kay Willeman of Shenandoah, and son/nephew Ron Ingrim of Indian Harbor Beach, FL; sister, Beth Tyler of Little Rock, AR, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild

Wyona (Nonie) Mae Jeffers was born December 24, 1942, in Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of Rol and Mary Jane (Cavner) Jeffers and was also welcomed home by her older sister, Patty Ann (Jeffers) Hoyt.
Wyona is survived by her sister, Pat Hoyt and husband Don of Clarinda, Iowa; Wyona had six nieces and nephews; Patricia Davison and husband Randy of Clarinda, Iowa; Stephonie Huseman and husband Gordon of Clarinda, Iowa; Norese Hill of Savannah, Missouri; Donald Hoyt of Arkansas; Kevin Hoyt of Clarinda, Iowa; Tanna LaChappelle and husband Jim of Omaha, Nebraska; along with other family members, Michelle Jones and husband Mike of Clarinda, Iowa; sixteen great nieces and nephews and twelve great-great nieces and nephews and many friends.
Wyona was preceded in death by her parents, Rol and Mary Jeffers; great-great niece, Dakota Ann Hoyt, great-great nephew, Bryston Michael Davison.
Wyona grew up in Clarinda and graduated from Clarinda High School and just celebrated her 50 year class reunion. Wyona enjoyed traveling and visited every state but five. Some of her favorite sayings were: "Little feet don't fail me now", "Price is no object", "Jingle your keys and I'll follow you anywhere". Wyona enjoyed quality time with family and friends going to garage sales, shopping, the casino, and meeting friends for breakfast once a week.
Wyona lived in California and worked for many years at the Naval Base until it closed; other places she lived and worked included: Tennessee at McDonalds, Clarinda at NSK in Security, Shenandoah at Eaton Corporation in housekeeping, Bedford at Gear for Sports, Clarinda at Kum & Go until she retired in 2009.
Wyona spent many hours volunteering in the community at the Clarinda Regional Health Center Gift Shop, Meals on Wheels, Clarinda Craft Carnival, Glenn Miller Days, Band Day, the Rumbles Dance, and many other community events.
Wyona's favorite past times were spent reading, dancing, music, movies, games and cards. She especially looked forward to the annual girls fall weekend of shopping with her nieces. You could easily pick her out in our crowd, as she would be wearing her tweety bird slippers and tweety bird pants. Wyona was quick to pull a prank or joke on anyone whether she knew you or not, everyone was treated equally. Beware on "April Fools Day" Wyona spent years on gathering pictures and information for family tree. The pictures she gathered were not always given freely to her as they somehow just ended up in her pocket or purse…(she has a rather large picture collection).
Our family spent a lot of quality time with her and we will miss her smile, laughter and unique humor, she will be missed more than we can convey.
Wyona enjoyed spending time with her family and they will miss her smile, laughter and unique humor, but her memory will live on in their hearts forever. May God grant comfort and peace to those who mourn her passing

 

Johnson, Alice Marie Beam - Alice Marie Beam Johnson was born on September 7, 1920 in Riverton, Iowa, the daughter of Sidney and Hazel (Dickerson) Beam. Alice entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Alice’s early years were spent in the Riverton community until she was 5 years old. The family then moved to Strahan, Iowa where she attended school through the 10th grade. The family then moved to Coburg where she continued her education and graduated from Coburg High School.

On August 17, 1952 she was united in marriage to Ray Johnson at the First Christian Church in Shenandoah. During her working days she was employed as a housekeeper and worked in the office at Henry Fields for many years. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Christian Women’s Fellowship (where she served as President and Vice President as well as on the Social Finance Committee) and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge.

Alice enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, cooking and experimenting with new recipes, sewing, and spending time with her nieces and nephews. Alice was a caring and loving person who will be greatly missed, and lovingly remembered.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ray; and a niece and nephew in infancy. Those left to honor her memory include her sisters Dorothy Beam of Red Oak and Altha Laabs of Shenandoah; brother Leo Beam of Tipton; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends

 

Johnson, Dennis Marion - Dennis Marion Johnson was born July 25, 1943, in Red Oak, Iowa, to Dorothy (Nelson) and Marion Johnson. Dennis passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday evening, May 22, 2011, at the age of 67.
Dennis began his school years at a country school just down the road from his boyhood home and was the last student to graduate from the 8th grade before the school was closed. He attended Clarinda High School where he enjoyed playing basketball and football. He graduated with the Class of 1961 and was looking forward to attending his 50th class reunion in June.
Dennis continued his education at Clarinda Community College and earned his Associate of Science Degree then attended Iowa State one year where he majored in aeronautical engineering, until his love of farming brought him back home.
He was drafted into the United States Army in 1965. Dennis went for basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and advanced training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, before being sent to Germany for 18 months as an artillery surveyor.
After his two years in the army, Dennis returned to his home place and started a farrow to finish hog operation in 1967. He received an Iowa Master Pork Producer award in 1990. Dennis was still very active on the farm raising hogs, corn, and soybeans. He loved farm life and had made no plans for retirement.
On September 9, 1973, Dennis was united in marriage to Margaret DeVries Duffield at the Bethesda Lutheran Church where he was a lifetime member and enjoyed attending with his wife. Dennis and Margaret shared many life views and had a happy life together on the farm for over 37 years.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law Ella Deane Ferber and brother-in-law James DeVries. He is survived by his wife Margaret; stepchildren: Gary Duffield, of South Dakota; Linda Auffert and husband Luke, of Clarinda; grandchildren: Jason Duffield and wife Kelly of South Carolina; Lee Duffield and wife Crystal of South Dakota; Megan Walter and husband Justin of Clarinda; Joe Auffert and Kahla of Clarinda; great grandchildren: Violet Duffield, Cameron and Randy Duffield, Avery and Taylin Walter, Josie Auffert; sister Yvonne Johnson of Bethesda; brothers-in-law John DeVries and wife Ruth of West Des Moines, Iowa; Lyndon Ferber of Lakewood, Colorado; sister-in-law; Evelyn Van Sickle and husband Keith of Newton, Iowa, half-sister-in-law Carla DeVries and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial service for Dennis Johnson, 67, of Clarinda will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bethesda. There will be a luncheon and time of fellowship following the service at the church

 

Johnson, Dorothy Lee Brown - Dorothy Lee Johnson was born November 29, 1925 in Hamburg, Iowa, the youngest child born to Charles Ernest and Mary Jane (Adkins) Brown. She passed away on Tuesday afternoon, May 10, 2011 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 11 days.

As a child, Dorothy enjoyed playing with her sisters. At the age of 7 and again at the age of 11, Dorothy contracted rheumatic fever. To combat this disease, Dorothy was bedfast for about a year and her mother would give her whiskey in warm water. Dorothy didn’t care for the smell of the concoction, but thought it was better than her father’s cold remedy of kerosene and sugar mixed in water.

While in high school, Dorothy met her future husband Denny. Following high school, Denny and Dorothy were united in marriage on March 19, 1943 in Coin, Iowa. The couple had one child, Faye Lee. Dorothy was a homemaker, helping Denny on the farm and raising their daughter. She had been a member of the Coin United Methodist Church and most recently the Nishna Valley Christian Church in Shenandoah. She enjoyed her McDonald’s Coffee Club and her church family. Most of all she loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Denny; her daughter, Faye Martin; and six sisters, Fern Stambaugh, Hilda Waite, Nora Porter, Ernestine Duncan, Mary Jo Irvin, Ruth Darlene Rutledge.

Survivors include her grandson, Douglas Martin and his wife Bridget of Independence, Missouri; her great grandchildren, Brayden and Sydney Martin; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

Johnson, Leona Louise Arnold - Leona Louise Johnson, the daughter of Lewis and Eva (Bennett) Arnold was born January 26, 1920 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She passed away on Monday, October 17, 2011 at the Clarkson Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 91 years, 8 months and 21 days.

Leona grew up in Shenandoah, IA, graduating from Shenandoah High School. She was united in marriage to Dencil C. Johnson on April 12, 1939. They lived in the Essex area until moving to Red Oak in 1964. Leona had worked for the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital and Montgomery County Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Red Oak. Leona loved to play bridge and bingo. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, even doing them in ink. Leona was a Nebraska Cornhuskers football fan and Chicago Cubs fan. The last two years, Leona was a resident at Red Oak Rehab & Care Center. She helped plant, and was so proud of, the flower garden at Red Oak Rehab & Care Center.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dencil in l980 and a son, Larry Johnson in 2009.

Johnson, Marvis Lorene Bast - Marvis Lorene Bast Johnson was born February 20, 1930, near Braddyville, Iowa, to Opal Mildred Lewis and Roy Raymond Bast. At an early age she and her parents moved to rural Clearmont, Mo., where they made their home until recent, years, when they passed away.

Marvis lived and got her education at Clearmont, Mo. She graduated from that school, after obtaining her high school diploma in May 1948. On July 3, Marvis was united in marriage to Carroll Marvin Johnson Adams, County of Taylor, State of Iowa. She moved to Taylor County with Marvin where he had a farming business. In the fall of 1950, Marvis and Marvin moved their farming operation to Barnard, Mo. In early 1953 they moved their farming business to Clearmont, Mo.

Marvis took employment with Iowa State Hospital in Clarinda, Iowa, in 1954. She continued to work until she decided to earn a license as an L.P.N. (Licensed Practical Nurse). She attended Northwest State College to get her degree. Her family continued to live in Page County, Iowa until 1968, when they returned to Clearmont, Mo.

Marvis continued her work until 1970 when she decided to retire from nursing. Her family continued to farm until 1994, as health conditions became problems. They moved their family to St. Joseph, Mo., in late 1994.

Marvin was preceded in death by her father and mother; one son, Ricky Carroll Johnson; two daughters, Vicki Lynn Beaman-West, Burlington, Iowa, and Charlene Drydale, Barnard, Mo.

Marvis and Marvin were former members of Clearmont Christian Church, Clearmont, Mo. They moved their membership to Wyatt Park Christian Church near their residence in St. Joseph, Mo.

They have met and appreciate many new members of this church and felt quite at home during these last few years. They have been truly blessed to live in a community like this one and really appreciate and felt at home here.

She leaves her husband, Carroll Marvin, of 63 years, St. Joseph, Mo.; four sons, Ronald L. Johnson, Clarinda, Iowa, Kenneth L. Johnson, Clearmont, Mo., Kevin R. Johnson, Phoenix, Ariz., Todd Anthony Johnson, Elmo, Mo.; three daughters, Patricia Thompson, Agency, Mo., Debbie Cooper, St. Louis, Mo., Christina Gigollotti, Springfield, Mo.

Johnson, Sally Jo Buckley - Sally Jo (Buckley) Johnson was born on June 18, 1936 in Davenport, IA, the daughter of Doyle Earl and Fama Ernestine (Wheeler) Buckley. Sally entered into the arms of her Lord on Thursday, July 21, 2011 surrounded by her loving family in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Sally’s early years were spent in Shenandoah. She attended Shenandoah Community Schools and graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1954. On September 2, 1956 she was united in marriage to Clair Johnson at the First Christian Church in Shenandoah. The couple was blessed with 54 years of marriage. Clair and Sally’s journey together began at the age of 4 when they were neighbors. Their relationship then turned to high school sweethearts and later into husband and wife. A true lesson in love to inspire us all.

During her working years Sally was employed as a florist for Shenandoah Floral for 25 years. She later worked for Central Surveys prior to her retirement.

Sally was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church in Shenandoah, where she served as Deaconess, was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship and served on the church board. For 15 years Sally served as co-chairperson of the local Red Cross Blood Mobile. She was an outstanding citizen who always put the needs of others ahead of her own. In 2010 she was recognized by the First Christian Church as “Mother of The Year”. Some of her passions included cooking, sewing, crafting, baking, reading cookbooks, spending time with her family, and tending to her plants. She was simply a lovely lady.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Jon Johnson; her parents Doyle and Fama Buckley and mother and father-in-law Carroll and Irene Johnson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Clair of Shenandoah; daughter Jan Scott and husband Vernon of Independence, IA and Jill Torres and husband Eddie of Austin, TX; son Jodie Johnson and wife Michelle of Hastings, NE; grandchildren Jessica Franzen of Evanston, IL, Kelsey Snyder and husband Cory of Gilbert, AZ, Remington Scott and wife Mikki of Urbana, IA, Mitchell Torres of Austin, TX and Maggie, Lacey and Allison Johnson all of Hastings, NE; other relatives and a host of friends

 

Johnston, Dollita Fern Lewis, 95, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011 at North Care Hospice in Kansas City, MO. Dollita Fern Johnston, daughter of Emit and Viola Verl (Starnes) Lewis, was born on October 11, 1915 at Westboro, Missouri.

Dollita was a wonderful mother and grandmother, a loving and caring sister, aunt, good neighbor and best of friends. Dollita worked at Wolf Brother's Department Store for over 30 years.

She was a member and President of the American Business Women's Association. She was previously named "Woman of the Year" as just one of her many acheivements. She blessed everyone she knew with her wonderful "Fudge".

Dollita is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Rafferty and husband Raymond; three grandchildren, John Dozier, Julie Hochstedler and Jim Dozier; four of her six sister-in-laws, Mista Harms, Lavaun Hanesworth, Evelyn Shepherd and Nedra Griffith; one brother, E.L. Lewis; and brother-in-law, Neal Shepherd. In addition, she has five nieces, five nephews, 12 great grandchildren and eight great, great grandchildren. She will be truly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. Memorials are being directed to the family

 

Jones, Donna Jean Beckel - Donna Jean (Beckel) Jones was born August 6, 1934 in Vincent, Iowa to Arthur and Helen (Yenck) Beckel. She graduated in the class of 1953 from Clarinda High School. Jeannie married Horace Jones September 25, 1953 in Omaha, Nebraska. To this union were born two sons: Randy and Vince. Jeannie worked at the Gillispie Nursing Home in Clarinda as well as the S&H Green Stamp Store.
Jeannie passed away March 30, 2011 at the Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Surviving Jeannie are her sons: Randy Jones and wife Amy of Farragut, Iowa and Vince Jones and wife Staci of Clarinda, Iowa; grandchildren: Trent, Mallory, Zoey, Donavan and Chaz; sister Diane Moulden and husband Danny of Kansas; brothers: Don Beckel and wife Rita of Clarinda, Iowa and Darrell Beckel and wife Charleen of Okoboji, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Jones, Elaine Berniece Lundberg - Elaine Berniece Jones was born April 30, 1917 near Red Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Martin Arthur and Laura Christin (Wenstrand) Lundberg. She passed away on Friday afternoon, August 12, 2011 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 94 years, 3 months and 13 days.

Elaine grew up in Montgomery County attending Frankfort Country School and later Red Oak High School, graduating in 1934. She later attended Red Oak Junior College, Wayne State Teachers College, and later Kearney State where she received a degree in Special Education. On June 15, 1942, she was united in marriage to Hayden Jones in Albany, Georgia. This union was blessed with three children, Robert, Janelle and Doug.

Elaine taught Country School from 1936 to 1938. She then taught at McCool Junction, Nebraska from 1940 to 1942. She was a special education teacher for District 66 in Omaha, Nebraska from 1970 to 1981. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah, the American Legion Auxiliary, as well as State and National Teachers Associations. She loved music, quilting and reading, but most of all Elaine loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Ruby Sar. Survivors include her husband, Hayden Jones of Shenandoah, Iowa; her children, Robert D. Jones and his wife Glenda of Sutton, Massachusetts, Janelle Schieffer and her husband Tom of Memphis, Tennessee, Douglas H. Jones of Lenexa, Kansas; five grandchildren, Wade Jones, Brian Jones, Luke Schieffer, Amanda Forrest, Shanna Cook; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Doris Hunt of Shenandoah, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends

Joseph, Helen H. Black - Helen H. Joseph was born April 18, 1924 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the daughter of Ike and Marie (Godwin) Black. She passed away on Sunday afternoon, May 1, 2011 at her home in Shenandoah at the age of 87 years and 13 days.

Helen grew up in Shenandoah and attended Shenandoah Schools. She was a homemaker and worked as a housekeeper at a local care center for many years. She also worked for J.C. Penney in Shenandoah. Helen enjoyed cooking and playing cards, but most of all, she loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Harry and Tom Jensen; six brothers and sisters, Arden Coad, Albert Isaac Black, Harvey Black, Charlie Black, Lucille Black and James Black.

Jozefowicz, Nancy Louise Feil - Nancy Louise Jozefowicz was born January 26, 1941 in Hamburg, Iowa, the daughter of Bert and Pauline (Verbeck) Feil. She passed away on Wednesday evening, June 8, 2011 at Gardenview Care Center in Shenandoah at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 13 days.

Nancy grew up in Fremont County and attended grade school in Riverton and Farragut. They later moved to Shenandoah where Nancy graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1959. In 1975 she moved to Lemoore, Colorado where she lived until 1997 when she returned to Shenandoah.

Nancy worked as a bartender and cocktail waitress for many years. She was also a telemarketer and worked with Chemical Dependency Assistance. She was a member of the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Fountain, Colorado and attended the Missionary Baptist Church and Faith Christian Fellowship Church in Shenandoah. She was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and REACT (Retired Eagles Activity Club).

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Lee Feil; two nephews, Pat and Mike Feil; and a special friend, Harold Wiltshire.

Survivors include her children, Angela Miller and her husband Dave of Shenandoah, Iowa, William Dean Jackson of Denver, Colorado, John Anthony Vanderpool of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends
