New Market Items - Mrs Rebecca Aid of Ray [Wray], Colo., passed away at her home September 12, at the age of 96 years. Five generations were living up until the time of her death. She is the step-mother of S.B. Aid of New Market and lived in New Market about 35 years ago.

1935 - MRS REBECCA AID LONG TIME RESIDENT EXPIRED THURSDAY

Mrs Rebecca Aid, a pioneer mother and long time resident of this community, expired last Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs Wm Benson, at the age of 96 years, 8 months and 6 days.

Rebecca Goodin was born at Guthrie, Mo., January 6, 1839, and departed this life August 12, 1935. She was baptized and joined the Christian church at the age of 12 years in Hollyville, Ia., and continued in that faith until the end. While living in Hollyville she was united in marriage to John Rose and to this union six children were born, three dying in infancy.

Mr Rose passed away in 1868. After remaining alone almost 10 years, she was again united in marriage to Mr John Aid in 1877, at Bedford, Ia. Two children were born to this union. Mrs Aid moved to Yuma County, Colo., in 1892 and lived at Idalia until 23 years ago when she moved to Wray where she has since made her home. The last five years she has made her home with Mrs Mary Benson and family.

She leaves to mourn her departure four daughters--Mrs Benson and Mrs Lucinda Weaver of Wray, Mrs Nettie Gray of Bend, S.D., and Mrs Belle Cook of Denver, Colo. Her only son, Ike Rose, departed this life January 3, 1928. She had four step-children, three of them still living. They are Will Aid of Shenandoah, Ia., Stillman Aid of New Market, Ia., Louisa Perry of Emmett, Calif. She also leaves 32 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren. Many of her loved ones came from far and near to pay their last respects to the departed.

Mrs Aid has continued in quite good health for one of her age, although she has not been able to go far from home for some time. She was able to be up and around until a few days before her death. Recently she expressed a desire to go. Whether sick or well, she was always anxious to have prayer and, with tears in her eyes would thank those who called to encourage her.

The Hitchcock Mortuary was in charge of the funeral arrangements, services being held Sunday, September 15, at 2 pm from the Nazarene Church in Wray. The services were conducted by Rev Mrs Haug of Brush, Colo., and Rev J.E. Coe of Wray. She was laid to rest in Grandview cemetery.

Just beyond the river Jordan, / Just beyond the chilling tide, / There is rest and life eternal, / Through its vale sweet waters glide, / We will meet you some brith morning, / Resitng by the tree of life so fair, / Just beside the River Jordan, / In the upper garden, there.
