O'Brien County Bell, 21 Apr, 1948, p. 9
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Private Lorenz Nagel, Hartley's first returned war dead, at the Foley Funeral Home in Hartley.
Military services were held at the Home and also at the graveside by the Hartley American Legion Post. Pvt. Nagel, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nagel, died Nov. 2, 1944 of wounds received in action. Lorenz had been only a month in the front lines. In August of that year, he was home on furlough, and went from here to Camp Mead, Maryland, from which point he went overseas.
After graduating from the rural schools and before entering the service, he assisted his father in farming.
