Private Irvin Elsbury Missing in Korea

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Elsbury received a telegram from the war Department Sunday afternoon, notifying them that their son, Irvin Elsbury is reported missing in action in Korea, since April 23. No other details were given but the message said a letter would follow.

Pvt. Elsbury, who is 25 years old, was inducted into the army last September. He was with the 24th Replacement company 28th Infantry Division. He was home on furlough early in March and arrived in Korea March 26.

Irvin Elsbury Writes From P.O.W. Camp

Mrs. Marvel Elsbury received a letter Saturday from her son, Pvt. Irvin Elsbury, who is a prisoner of war in North Korea. The letter written Christmas Eve, stated that he is well and that the Chinese would try to make Christmas as nice as they could for the prisoners. He expressed hope that he would soon be able to get home.

This is the second letter Mrs. Elsbury has received from him since his capture by the Communists last spring. She had been notified by the war department that he was missing in action in May, and on October 13 she received a letter from him from the P.O.W. camp.Letters sent to him through the Korean address had been returned, but his letter last week stated he had received one of his mother's letters several months ago.

Pfc, Irvin Elsbury Arrives in U.S. Friday, Family to Meet Him

Members of the Harold Elsbury family left Monday morning by car for San Francisco, Calif., to be on hand Friday to meet the S.S.Haven, when it docks with recently repatriated POWs on board. Among them will be Pfc. Irvin Elsbury, released at Panmunjom August 16 after nearly two and a half years in a North Korean prisoner of war camp. Making the trip to California to greet Irvin after the boat docks, and before he is sent to a veterans hospital for examination before he being given his discharge. It is not known just how soon he will be released from service. The Elsbury family, who are enjoying this as their first real trip together, will take a leisurely trip both going to the coast and returning.
