GANO, BENJAMIN D

Born in Athens County, Ohio; father, John Gano (born Otsego County N.Y., January 28, 1811). Married to Harriet Eaton June 25, 1868; Children: George S.,Frank B., Charles E., Mary F. Enlisted August 29, 1861, at Waupaca, Wis., but mustered in at Madison in company A, Eighth Wisconsin Infantry, Second Brigade, Second Division Army of Mississippi; appointed Corporal in 1862; re-enlisted as veteran January 4, 1864; made Sergeant same year and later First Sergeant; commissioned First Liertenant May 17, 1865, and Captain upon his discharge September 13, 1865; discharged at Demopolis, Ala. Settled in this county June 1871, on northeast 1/4 section 2, Center Township. Died January 16, 1889, and buried in O'Brien County. Member G.A.R. at Hartley, and A.F. & A.M.at same place.
