UNITED SERVICE WOMEN

During World War II the United Service Women was organized through the efforts of Frances Kelley for Ruth Herrald, Dept. Secretary, Organizer of Eldora, Iowa. Those eligible for joining were mothers, wives, and sisters of sons, brothers or husbands in the service.

The Charter was signed July 13, 1942, and apporved at headquarters July 21, 1942. The WIlton unit being No. 93 and later being changed to No. 13. The Charter members are: Irene Atkinson, Elizabeth Lange, Mae Ehrecke, Zella Lauser, Harriet Jensen, Grace Atkinson, Elizabeth Latchaw, Eileen Ehrecke, Miriam Lauser, and Emma Smith.

At the State Convention, held in Des Moines in May, 1946, it was decided that all units of Service Women become the Auxiliary of Amvet.

To date there are 54 members with present officers being: Etha Wacker, President; Mabel Freidrichson, 1st Vice President; Carrie, 2nd Vice Prsident; Clara Leith, Treasurer; Irene Atkinson, Secretary; Flora Oveson, Historian; Irene Sheetz, Keeper of Records; Marie Hansen, Chaplain; and Emma Smith, Musician.

The Executive Committee is: Zella Lauser, Irene Atkinson, and Emma Smith.

The Gold Star Membership include five mothers: Rose Freeland, Stella Darting, Hazel Walcher, Olive Whitmer, and Anna Dwyer.
