POSTMASTERS and LOCATION of POSTOFFICE

The first Postmaster was Henry S. Giesler. He was appointed under Franklin Pierce. Post office was at that time in the store building just east of the city scales.

The next in order was J. E. Walker, appointed under Abraham Lincoln. The office was in a store building where J. G. Crispin's plumbing shop now is.

Then J. S. Kiefer, appointed under Andy Johnson. Office was in store building on Front Street on Burkle property just west of Economy Lumber Co.

Charles S. Baker, appointed by U. S. Grant, office on south side of 4th Street, in building now occupied by E. F. W. Maurer auto show room.

John Ellis, appointed by U. S. Grant. Office then east side of Cedar Street where the Mayweather building stood, now vacant.

Dan Harker, appointed under R. B. Hayes, office in same location as before.

J. M. Rider, appointed by R. B. Hayes, office moved to the building now occupied by Candy Kitchen.

W. P. Ross, appointed by Grover Cleveland. Office same location.

C. A. Walker, appointed by Benjamin Harrison, office in same place.

H. E. Nicolaus, appointed by Grover Cleveland. The office was moved acorss the street in one of the Leith buildings.

Corneluis Van Zandt, appointed under William McKinley, office same place. He died while serving.

H. W. Lamp served one month, being one of Van Zandt's bondsman.

A. C. Shiflet, appointed by Taft administration, died while serving.

Mortimer Sullivan, appointed by Woodrow Wilson. Died while serving.

Charles H. Jasperson, appointed under Warren G. Harding. Served part of term. Office still in the Leith building.

Cora Jacobsen, appointed by Herbert Hoover, office in same place.

Olive A. Burrows, appointed by F. D. Roosevelt. Moved the office into the old Union Bank building. Miss Burrows resigned in 1946, effective June 1st. George Kook is now active Postmaster.
