OBITUARY.

In last week’s JOURNAL appeared a brief announcement of the demise of JOHN T. WELLS, aged 72, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Margaret Hampton, in Atalissa, Iowa, on the 30th of July, 1878.

The deceased was born in Jefferson county, Ohio, on the 15th of July, 1805. In 1820, he moved to Morgan county, where he commenced life for himself, clearing out a farm in the heaviest kind of timber. In 1827, he was married in Quaker church to Miss Esther Vail, with whom he lived happily till 1834, when she died, leaving him with three children. About two years later, he was married to Miss Lydia Eves, by whom he had eleven children. Eight of them survive him.

In 1854, Mr. Wells left Ohio for the West, taking up his abode near Atalissa, in this county, where he continued to reside till God called him hence. For the last six years of his life he was a great sufferer, but he had the best of care in the home of his loving daughter, Mrs. Hampton. The deceased was a kind and generous-hearted man, always extending a helping hand to the suffering and needy. His good deeds are embalmed in the memory of many grateful ones.
