In Memory of Fred Hacker

At a meeting of Old Settlers, held at the Mayor’s office, June 30, 1876, Moses Couch was chosen chairman, and stated the object of the meeting was to manifest our respect for the memory of our fellow citizen, Frederick Hacker, who died June 29, 1876.

John Mahin, Peter Jackson and Marx Block were made a committee to draft suitable resolutions and have them published in the city papers.

On motion of Mr. Block it was resolved that the Old Settlers attend the funeral of deceased.

WHEREAS, a mysterious Providence has removed from our midst our fellow townsman, Frederick Hacker, therefore

    Resolved, That we, the Old Settlers of Muscatine, in this manner pay a tribute to his memory as a citizen of sterling integrity and honest worth, as well as a Christian of unblemished reputation, whose walk and conversation honored his profession.

    Resolved, That as a further mark of our respect for the deceased, we will attend his funeral in a dody, and that these resolutions be recorded in the proceedings of our association.
