IOWA PROORESS
(sic Progress)
Jan 4, 1875

Monday last was the twenty-eighth anniversary of the admission of Iowa into the Union. Its growth has been surprising. The following is the population for the years named:

1836………………………10,531 1852……………………230,833
1838………………………22,859 1854……………………328.014
1840………………………43,116 1856……………………519,414
1844………………………75,050 1858……………………633, 547
1846………………………99,088 1860……………………674,913

By comparison, the growth may be seen. Florida was admitted into the Union on the same day with Iowa. In 1870 Florida had a population of 187,748, or 1,006,072 less than Iowa.
