DEATH OF JOHN NEIBERT SR.
May 5, 1900 (hand written)

Many citizens and friends in this city were pained to hear this morning of the passing away of John Neibert Sr., one of Muscatine’s most respected old settlers. The end came peacefully to him at his home, 504 Cedar Street, this morning, where he had lived for nearly fifty years. Mr. Neibert was ill for some time last winter and although he seemed to improve for a time, has been gradually falling since.

Mr. Neibert was born in Bavaria in 1812, but has lived in this country and Muscatine since 1854. On coming to Muscatine he entered the service of Ben Hershey, being one of the first men in his employ. He remained a trusted employe of Mr. Hershey and his company during his entire life.

He is survived by but two sons, John and George; his eldest son, Jake, being the one whose life was so sadly sacrificed while on police duty in South Muscatine some years ago. The wife and mother preceded her husband in death some fifteen years ago.

The funeral has been set for 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon from the German Evangelical Church of which Mr. Neibert has been a faithful member during his residence in this city. The public is kindly advised to bring no flowers.
