At his home in West Liberty on Wednesday, march 7, 1900, at 1 a.m. occurred the death of JOHN LEWIS, uncle of H.W. Lewis of this city. The decident was an influential citizen in his place of residence and his death a sincerely mourned. John Lewis was born and reared upon a farm in Highland county, Ohio, and at the age of twenty years came with his parents of 80 acres for himself soon after his arrival, but remained under the parental roof until 1845, when he was united in marriage with Delia Humphrey, who was born in Delaware county, Ohio. After their marriage the young couple began their domestic life on a farm which he purchased in Wapsinonoc township and there resided until 1873. From time to time Mr. Lewis added to his original purchase until 349 broad acres paid tribute to his care and cultivation. Removing to West Liberty in 1873, he remained there, leading a retired life until his death.
