DEATH OF WM. CALDER.

Word had been received from Commandant C.C. Horton of the Iowa Soldiers’ Home at Marshalltown, of the death of William Calder, an old settler from Muscatine. He passed away at 4 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, and the funeral took place last evening at 6 o’clock, interment being made I the Soldiers’ Home cemetery.

The old settlers well remember Comrade Calder so long a resident of this community. He followed the occupation of carpenter and for many years was in the employ of Contractor Magoon. Politically he affiliated with the democracy and held several offices of trust. He was a Knight Templar and one of the best known Masons in the city.

After the death of his wife several years ago he went to Marshalltown to enter the Solders’ Home. He was more than 80 years of age, and is survived by one daughter, Bessie, now Mrs. Schaefer, of Chicago, whose husband for several years was ….purchasing agent for M…field & Co.
