ANOTHER OLD SETTLER DIES.
June 7, 1899 (hand written)

WILLIAM L. BROWNING, an old settler in Muscatine county, living on what is known as the Hare farm, some two miles up the river, died at 2:30 this morning, at the home of his son, W. H. Browning, as above indicated. Last February Mr. Browning fell on the ice and suffered a violent shaking up of his entire system, which necessitated his taking to his bed, from which he had not been able to rise since that time. No bones were broken, but the system was badly disarranged, finally resulting in his death as above stated.

Mr. Browning came to Muscatine county in 1839, when yet a young lad, from the State of New Jersey. His brother Charles was at one time sheriff of Muscatine county and a member of the fire department.

Three children survive to mourn the loss of their father, Frank, of Robinsdale, Minn.; David, of Muscatine county, and W. H. Browning, with whom the father has lived for several years. Two brothers and a sister also survive, being Jeremiah, of Grandview; J. L. of Wapello, and Mrs. Matilda Shellabarger, of Lettsville. Mr. B.’s third wife also remains.

The funeral services will be held tomorrow from the home east of the city at 2 o’clock. The interment will be at the Muscatine city cemetery.
