DEATH OF HENRY W. MOORE

When the tidings ran through our streets Monday morning of the sudden death at his store of Henry W. Moore, the city received a shock it had not experienced for years. The circumstances of his death and a sketch of his life and business career appear in another column.

Muscatine had no other citizen so little known and so well known as Henry W. Moore. His name was a household word in our city and for hundreds of miles around. It stood for marked business success, sound judgment, careful method, the highest commercial integrity. There are few in our city whose business and financial options weighed equally in the balance with his. The oldest merchant in our town, dealing wholly in legitimate trade, a director from its foundation of one of our oldest banks, his personal honor and reputation as bright as burnished gold, his long, successful career stamped his opinions with the seal of public respect and confidence.
