DEMISE OF HENRY C. SCHMELZER
Mar 2, 1898 (hand written)

The well known wagon manufacturer, HENRY C. SCHMELZER, passed away yesterday morning at 8:30 o’clock death resulting from a paralytic stroke. The deceased had been in broken health for the past year and a half, ever since first stricken with paralysis. He was a native of Germany and reached the age of 67 years. He came to the land of his adoption and this city about thirty-five years ago, and was engaged in the wagon making business, which he pursued until compelled to desist, when first afflicted with the malady which eventually terminated his life. He was an honest, industrious and law-abiding citizen, whose departure will be mourned by a numerous circle of friends and acquaintances.

His wife, three sons, and a daughter survive, the latter being Mrs. Henry Heinz, wife of the editor of Der Correspondent. Socially, Mr. Schmelzer was a member of the German Mechanics’ Aid Society, which will take charge of the funeral, which is appointed to take place from the residence, 1119 Cypress street at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon.
