MRS. BURTNER AT REST.
Jan 20, 1898 (hand written)

The death of Mrs. Susan Burtner, relict of the late Daniel Burtner, took place a few minutes before ten o’clock yesterday morning at her residence on Mulberry street, where her last illness had confined her to the sick chamber for the past five months. A cancerous affliction of the stomach caused prolonged suffering and though it was enmination was relief to the patient, who breathed her last in the presence of those dear to her. Mrs. Burtner was a native of the Keystone state, the date and immediate place of her birth were January 6th, 1832, at Lancaster, Pa. Her marriage with Mr. Burtner took place on October 15th, 1857, in Cumberland county, Pa., and the same year came to Muscatine, residing here the greater part of the time ever since. Ten children were the issue of this union, only five of whom attained maturity and survive, they being Libbie and George, of Muscatine, Richard, of Waterloo, Iowa, and Mrs. St. Clair Byrne, of Holy Lake, England. Their father was summoned to the great beyond in the summer of 1889. Mrs. Burtner was a consistent communicant of the United Brethren church for a period of forty years and was a woman whose qualities of heart and mind won for her the respect of all who knew her.

The time of the funeral will be announced upon the receipt of tidings from absent relatives.
