A CENTENARIAN PASSES AWAY

Full of years and honors, the most venerable resident of Muscatine county, GRANDMA NEAL, departed this life at 6 o’clock Sunday morning at the home of her son, Hampton Neal, in Seventy-Six township. In the year 1800 she first beheld the light of day, and her long earthly pilgrimage witnessed the most wonderful march of progress in any century of the world’s history. From her native state of Maine she came to Muscatine county in its primal days before the pioneers had wrought the change giving the virgin county a civilized aspect. During her long residence in this county she made many friends who loved and revered her, and who will regret the passing of her once familiar figure, whose span of life reached almost from the dawn to the close of the century, her natal day being November 17, 1800, making her exact age 99 years, 6 months and 3 days. The decedent had been confined to her bed since last February, since which time she gradually grew weaker until the end peacefully came. Grandma Neal was a pensioner of the Mexican war.

The funeral services will be held this (Tuesday) afternoon at 2:00 o’clock in the Christian church at Sand Prairie, Cedar township. Interment will be made in the Keen cemetery.
