DEATH OF GEO. P. VESEY.

Though our citizens were generally aware of the failing health of our City Weighmaster, Geo. P. Vesey, they were not prepared to learn of his death, which took place at 3 o’clock this afternoon. About ten o’clock this afternoon. About ten days ago Mr. Vesey submitted to an operation for strangulated hernia, which was regarded as his only chance for life, but after a brave struggle he succumbed to the severe shock to his system.

Mr. Vesey was about 80 years of age. He came to Muscatine over forty years ago and was for awhile associated with the late S. G. Stein in a furniture factory. Some twenty years ago he removed to Moline, returning thence to this place eight or ten years ago. He leaves a wife and one daughter, the latter being the wife of a. G. Butler. Mr. Vesey was a good man and had the high esteem of all who knew him.

Time of the funeral will be announced later.
