DEATH OF MRS. MARY O’CONNOR.
May 17, 99 (hand written)After an earthly pilgrimage of 86 years, and surrounded by loved ones, Mrs. Mary O’Connor calmly closed her eyes to fall into that tranquil sleep that knows no awakening, passing to the great beyond at 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert W. Weber, at 940 Lucas street. On the 5th inst., the venerable lady came from the old farm in Wilton township, where she lived quietly for almost fifty years, to visit with her daughter at the county seat, and being quite feeble with old age, easily and rapidly succumbed to an attack of pneumonia, after an illness of four days.
Mary O’Keefe (such was her maiden name) was born in County Cork, Ireland, and in the early 40’s came to America. After a year’s residence in Connecticut, where she was united in marriage to William O’Connor, they came to Muscatine, then Bloomington, and after living a year in the city, moved to Wilton township, where they lived long and prospered, Mr. O’Connor at the time of his death in 1872, being known as one of the prominent and wealthy agriculturalists of that section. Mrs. O’Connor was a faithful, affectionate and home-loving woman and, a sincere Christian, who was highly regarded by neighbors and friends. The children who mourn her departure are Ellen, wife of Dennis O’Keefe, Jeremiah, William and John O’Connor, and Mary, wife of Robert W. Weber, of this city. Thirteen grandchildren also survive, the only great grandchild, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen, dying in Kansas City a few weeks ago.
The remains will be conveyed to the old family home this morning and the funeral take place at 10 a. m. Friday from St. Mary’s church, Wilton, services to be conducted by Rev. Father Kiripatrick. The remains will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s cemetery beside those of her husband and son, James, who died in 1890.
