May 22, 1895(hand written)--Mrs. Sarah Benedict, aged about 82, died at her home at the corner of Sixth and Walnut streets, yesterday. She was bon in Pennsylvania and came to Iowa in 1845, settling in Louisa county, and a year later moving to Lake township, this county, where she resided until a few years ago, her husband having preceded her in death about nine years ago. Twelve children were born to her, eight of whom survive to mourn her loss, they being Mrs. A. Morgan, of Moscow; Mrs. Robert and Wm. Kirk, of Lake township; Mrs. Chas. Rupp, Washington; George, of Lake; David and Joseph, of this city, and William of Logan county, Illinois. The funeral is appointed for 10 o’clock Saturday morning at the U.B. church, internment to be in the High Prairie graveyard.

After a four days’ illness, Mrs. Sarah Benedict died of old age and la grippe at her home, corner Sixth and Walnut, at 4:20 yesterday afternoon. Deceased was born May 12, 1813, in Pennsylvania, where she was united in marriage to Mr. Benedict 64 years ago, her maiden name being Gear. They came to Iowa in 1845, settling in Louisa county, and after a year’s residence they moved to a farm in Lake township, this county, where her husband died nine years ago, she having since resided in the city. Twelve children were born to her, eight of whom survive to mourn her loss, they being Mrs. A. Morgan, of Moscow; Mrs. Robert and Wm. Kirk, of Lake township; Mrs. Chas. Rupp, Washington; George, of Lake; David and Joseph, of this city, and William, of Logan county Illinois.
