THE FINAL SUMMONS
Nov 25, 1894 (hand written)

MRS. E.B. LEWIS passed away peacefully Sunday morning at 8 o’clock, after a protracted illness of consumption, aged 53 years, 8 months and 6 days. The family and friend of deceased have sadly realized for some time that her days on earth were but few and when the angel of death beckoned for her to come to the eternal haven of rest, the summons was not unexpected. About a year ago she went to California, hoping for a return of health but it was of no avail. During her illness her thoughts were not for herself but for her family. The strong and enduring mother love surmounting everything else, her sufferings being borne in patience.

The maiden name of deceased was Isabella Jackson, she first seeing the light of day in Cincinnati, Ohio, on March 19, 1841. In 1853, with her family, she came to Muscatine. In 1860 she was united in marriage to Ewing B. Lewis and from this union nine children were born five of which survive her, they being Mrs. Geo. G. Garrettson, of San Diego, Cal., Mrs. C.M. Mikesell, Sam T., Bessie and Fred W., all of this city. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Mayes, Mrs. C. Lillibridge and Miss Elizabeth Jackson and one brother, Wm. Jackson, of Marshalltown. Mrs. Lewis was a member of the M.E. Church and of the W.R.C.
