F. A. DRAKE
Oct 1, 1894 (hand written)

At his home on East Second street occurred the death of F.A. Drake from senility about midnight Monday. The deceased for many years was one of Muscatine’s foremost merchants, but for the past decade had led a retired life.

He was born in Massachusetts and reached the age 83 years, 3 months and 5 days. In 1845 he removed to Richmond, Ohio, where he was engaged in mercantile pursuits for several years, when we went to Racine, Wis., and engaged in the dry good business. From there he came to Muscatine in 1855 and in partnership with A. Stewart engaged in the same business here, continuing it for many years. Of late years he has done a little insurance business. In 1861 he was united in marriage to Miss Minerva B. Hulverson, at Chicago, who with two brothers survive him. Mr. Drake was a man of great simplicity of character, and his bondless generosity prompted him to be ever ready to assist a friend in any worthy undertaking. His death removes another honored pioneer resident from our midst.

The funeral services will be conducted at the family residence Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock by the Rev. E. C. Paget.
