JACOB SCHAFFLUETZAL

The venerable Jacob Schaffluentzal, who has been well known in this community for forty years and longer, departed this life yesterday at the residence of his son-in-law, Mrs. B. Merdink, one mile south of Sweeland Center. Deceased was a native of St. Gallen, Switzerland, and attained the ripe old age of 84 years. He emigrated to America and settled in Muscatine in 1852 and remained a resident of this place since. His wife preceeded him in death two years ago. One son, Jacob, and one daughter, Mrs. B. Meerdink, survive.

Mr. Schaffluetzal was a consistent member of the German Congregational church for two score years, and the funeral services will be conducted at the church by Rev. Jacob Fath this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. The cortege leaves the residence on the farm two hours after.
