DEATH OF AN OLD SETTLER.
June 26, 1894 (hand written)

Another old settler has joined silent majority in the death of JOHN WEGGEN, Sr., which occurred at 1:30 o’clock yesterday morning. Mr. Weggen had been afflicted with diabetes for the past three years, and as at his advanced age there was no hope of complete recovery, the end was awaited with resignation.

The deceased was a native of Blokzyl, Holland, but had resided in this city for a half century, and attained the age of 74 years, 6 months and 29 days. He emigrated to America in 1847, first locating in Buffalo, N.Y. Two years later he was united in marriage with Miss Pauline Van Zyl, who with nine children mourns his death. Religiously the deceased had been an active and consistent member of the Holland Baptist church for 42 years. The funeral is appointed to take place Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the family residence, 1051 Lucas Street.
