A Veteran Merchant Gone

Death of David H. Block, the Well Known Clothier – Sketch of the Deceased
January 17, 1894

A well known and highly esteemed resident of this city for more then thirty-five years was summoned to his fathers in the death of David H. Block, which occurred at 6:15 o’clock yesterday morning at his home, over No. 121 east Second street. Mr. Block was seized with symptoms of the grip a month ago and for three weeks had been confined to his home. For years the deceased had been afflicted with asthma and this ailment developing into a more aggravated form together with the grip formed a fatal complication. Up to Sunday evening the family still cherished hopes for his recovery, but a decided change for the worse occurring they sadly realized that dissolution was near at hand, and at an early hour yesterday morning he passed away tranquilly. He had been a patient sufferer during his illness, displaying the same noble virtues that were admired in him while living.
