DEATH OF MRS. D. G. McCLOUD.

The many friends throughout the city and country of Mrs. Phoebe C. McCloud, widow of the late D. g. McCloud, will be pained t learn of her death, which occurred at 6:30 o’clock this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Rankin, on East Eighth street. Mrs. McCloud had been in poor health for the past year and a half and had been confined to her room since last Thanksgiving, with dropsical trouble. She had failed gradually of late and passed peacefully away this morning at the hour above stated.

Mrs. McCloud’s maiden name was Phoebe Chattaway and she was born in England, December 22, 1832. She came to America when 14 years of age and resided in Cincinnati for two years. In 1848 she came to Muscatine, where she was united in marriage with D. G. McCloud, July 18, 1849. They resided in the city until 1857, when they removed to a farm in Lake township, residing there until the fall of 1888, when they again took up their residence in Muscatine. Mr. McCloud died in March, 1889, and since that time Mrs. McCloud had made her home with her children. The deceased was a devoted member of the Methodist church and was a woman of strong Christian character. A loving mother, true friend and kind neighbor, she will be sincerely mourned.

Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. McCloud, of whom six survive. They are: Mrs. Charles Miller and Mrs. J. W. Rankin, of Muscatine; George D., of Spokane Falls, Wash.; Bion, of Chester, Ill.; Mrs. Frank McBride, of Seventy-Six township, and Mrs. John Hitchcock, of Lake township. The time of the funeral will be announced later.--Feb. 1893.(hand written)
