DEATH OF MISS NELLIE DELAHEN

After a lingering illness of a year’s duration, Miss Nellie Delahen passed away peacefully at 1:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Delahen, on West Fourth street.

The deceased was born and reared in Muscatine and was of a kind, gentle and amiable disposition that endeared her to many who will receive the sad news of her death with unfeigned regret. She was a bright scholar and graduated with honor from St. Matthias select school, and later from the Muscatine Commercial college. For a short period she held the position of book-keeper for the Muscatine Manufacturing company, but on the reorganization of the company was obliged to resign owing to delicate health. Diabetes seized upon her, and though its inroads were temporarily checked by medical skill, the insidious ailment could not be eradicated and she eventually succumbed.

Miss Delahen was 23 years 5 months and 15 days old and her untimely death is mourned by her parents, three brothers and three sisters, all of whom reside in Muscatine, excepting Miss Mayme, who lives at Davenport, and William, who is a resident of Los Angeles, Cal.

The funeral is appointed to take place from St. Matthias church Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock. September, 1893 (hand written)
